1. Mrs. Roussell’s Classroom Newsletter
Sept. 13th – Sept. 17th
This Week’s Assignments
Math – We will begin a new study on graphing and line plots. We will look at different
ways data can be plotted so it’s easier to read. Students will also be working on how to
write statements about this data using the terms mean, median, mode, and range.
Writing – We will continue practicing writing the shows rather than tells. We will use
Cynthia Rylant’s book “When I Was Young In The Mountains” to write our own “When I
Was Young” story.
Spelling – We will begin a whole class sort this week. We will be working whole group
for a while until the students are familiar with the different types of sorts.
Reading – The book “Because of Winn-Dixie” is finished and the students did a great
job with this unit. We are now moving on to actual small group reading. I will be
conducting mini-lessons this week on Predicting and Context Clues and how these
strategies help us to be better readers. I will then meet with small groups to introduce
new books and work further on reading strategies.
Social Studies – We are switching to Social Studies and will begin a new unit on
Missouri Regions and Landforms. We will study the five regions of Missouri and their
landforms.
