RI President, Ian Risley on Tree Plantation…
Every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree
for each of its members between the start of the Rotary
year on 1 July and Earth Day on 22 April 2018. Trees
remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from
the air, which slows global warming.
“It is my hope that the result of that effort will be far
greater than the environmental benefit that those 1.2
million new trees will bring,” Riseley said. “I believe the
greater result will be a Rotary that recognizes our
responsibility not only to the people on our planet, but to
the planet itself.”

them India would have been absolutely green by now.”

“Planting trees which give people direct benefit through
fruits and vegetables” may be the way forward…
Vegetable drumstick, a rich source of iron, is used to
improve low haemoglobin levels in women. A newly
chartered Club with 406 members in Dist.3131 (RC Pune
Next Gen) took upon a Project in 2014-15 to plant 100,000
Drumstick Saplings in Rural and Urban areas – a simple and
effective way of benefiting the community

Way Forward?
•Continue to Focus on Infra Needs at Schools which have
benefited from our service in the last few years
•Expand ‘Sanitation for Education’ Project to more Village
Schools
•Water Management at Select Villages – check dams,
borewells, rain water harvesting, etc.
•Similar Rural Projects in nearby Villages of Palghar Dist.

38. Club of Bombay West
Way Forward?
•Consider ‘Integrated Rural Development’ Approach
•Identify and adopt a small village or cluster for making it a
‘Model Village’ as a long-term Rural Project
•Professional Agency to engage with the community for
identifying and prioritizing their needs in Housing,
Healthcare, Early Childhood Development, Education, Skills
& Entrepreneurship Training, Drinking Water, Sanitation,
Renewable Energy, Sustainable Agriculture, etc.
•Implement phase-wise over 3-5-7 years with support from
Local Self Government, State Govt., like-minded NGOs.
