The Hybrid Spider Monkey

The Hybrid Spider Monkey has has long spindly
legs. It’s Tail can be about 89 cm, and is very
flexible. The Hybrid Spider Monkey relies on its
tail for balance instead of its arms. They move
through the trees with great speed. There are
can cover about 12m per stride.

Their hands are long and narrow, and their fingers are
very curved. The Hybrid Spider Monkey
was listed endangered in 2004. Their eye colour is
light brown or light blue. They are also very agile. In
Venezuela and Colombia, there are 4 protected areas
where the monkeys don’t have to worry about
predators are very safe. Hybrid Spider Monkeys can
live up to an average of 22 years in the wild. They
communicate by posture, stance and squeals and
screeches when an enemy or predator approaches
them.
Predators

The Hybrid Spider Monkey has many predators such as:
- Eagles
- Hyenas
- Humans
- Big Cats
- Chimps
Humans hunt spider monkeys for their fur, for the winter. Also their meat is
hunted. Hybrid Spider Monkeys are slowly becoming extinct, and right now are
endangered.
Adaptive Features

The tail of the Hybrid Spider
Monkey acts as a fifth limb to
the monkey. The tail is 89 cm
and can hook onto trees and other
                                     things that the monkey needs.
The hybrid spider
monkey has apposable
thumbs to hold onto things
such as food and
branches. They also have
apposable toes as well.
                                        The Hybrid Spider Monkey
has their eyes in the front of their head
to see branches so they do not fall. Some
animals have their eyes at the side of their
head like for example the zebra and the
giraffe. But the monkey, lion and other
animals have their eyes in the front to see
                                                their prey.
Habitat & Diet

The Hybrid Spider Monkeys live in tropical
rain forests in South America, such as Brazil, Colombia,
Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. In the rainforest they
swing from tree to tree, and sleep on branches during
the night.

The Hybrid Spider Monkey eats many different foods.
The monkeys diet is 90% of fruits such as apples and
mangoes, nuts and bird eggs. The monkeys can live on
short food supplies. They can even live on two kinds of
nuts and fruit. But when there is none of their normal
food, they tend to eat insects, bark, rotting forest,
and honey.
