  2. 2. About the Author I am in 5th grade. My favorite subject is math. I love hanging out with my friends.I like giraffes but, I didn’t know much about them I had fun writing this and I hope you like it.
  3. 3. Who Am I ???? Giraffe: Males are called bulls. Females are called cows. Young are called calves. Giraffes tongues are black! They are strong enough to kill their only predator, the lion. They usually sleep only five minutes at a time! Giraffes can gallop 31-37 mph! A giraffes tongue is 18 inches long! Giraffes can survive a long time without water.
  4. 4. The Early Years A mother giraffe can have a baby standing up. When the baby is born it can be up to six feet tall! In about one hour after it’s born it will begin walking. And it will spend 16-20 hours a day feeding. Sometimes mother giraffes have a “daycare” for other mothers, she watches the babies for them while they get food.
  5. 5. Habitat Sweet Habitat Giraffes live in Africa. Since they can go a long time without water, they are fine with the heat. They eat the leaves off trees.
