The word AKAY came about when we were so dead serious in our
mission to inform and educate people about nutrition. We need to
come up with a name justifiable enough for the purpose. Needless
to say, it should be the heart and soul of our mission, thus,
A.K.A.Y. was born.
A.K.A.Y. stands for Ang Kalusugan Ay Yaman (Health is Wealth).
And the tagalog word “akay” means magturo, ituro, pumatnubay,
patnubayan or in english to guide, to lead by the hand.
True enough, there is no such thing as coincidence. God has a
perfect plan and perfect timing for all of us and that… everything
happens for a reason.
While my husband and I was thinking of how best to call our
mission, it was inevitable to look back and recall our past
experiences and understand why we are here and why we do the
mission. After experiencing three(3) straight years of death in the
family due to illness, and being under the influence of drugs
ourselves (these are prescripted drugs). We prayed and prayed
and prayed that we need a way out to combat our then sickly
selves.
We ourselves went through the program and experienced results
the way no medical drugs have provided! We learned that proper
nutrition is the key. We are what we eat and what we eat
manifests in our life.

DAY 1 CUT CALORIES NOT FOOD
Do you remember your Magic Number?
I gave you the Calorie you need to consume per day to help you with your goal.
Remember: Lahat ng food we put inside our body has calories. Be it solid or liquid.
Look at the Photo as an example.
- Fast Food is high in calorie
- Even drinks have calories. Water lang ang 0 calorie
- Sweets and Candies are high in calories as well.
When you go over the calorie given to you tendency is you'll maintain the weight
to current weight or gain more weight.

Day 2 The Power of Living Water and Live Foods
Water is an essential and major component of all living matter.
It is the largest single component of the body:
Our brains are 76% water.
Our lungs are 90% water.
Our blood is 84% water.
And blood plasma is 98% water.
Now you know na bakit madami ang madalas sumakit ulo, tuhod, katawan, over
fatigue, may cancer, may problema sa dugo, constipated...
Critical bodily functions such as digestion, circulation and excretion cannot occur
without it.
It carries nutrients to all vital body substances, plays a crucial role in maintaining
body temperature and serves as building material for growth and repair of the
body.
Strive for at least 70% of your diet to consist of water-rich foods. This will allow
your body to cleanse itself.

We all need a LOT of water, our body need lots of it po unless one has those rare
cases when doctors advise otherwise.
When we increase our nutrient intake and flush out toxins, water becomes more
essential, more so with weight loss
When water is not enough po, we experience discomforts which may be Dietary

Do you choose LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX Foods?
In studies observing the effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels,
carbohydrates food were categorized into low, middle, or high G.I
High G.I. are food, usually made up of simple carbohydrates that quickly convert
to blood sugar. It affects raises and drops of blood sugar levels all too quickly,
bringing in a lot of discomforts to an individual.
Low G.I are food, usually made of complex carbohydrates that has less drastic
effects due to slow conversion. And there also gives a longer lasting feeling of
fullness.

•Fat in food are categorized as either predominantly GOOD FAT (Omega 3) or
BAD FAT (Omega 6).
•We need both but we always end up with so much of BAD FAT (Omega 6)
especially in our normal food.
•We need to increase our intake of Good Fat (Omega 3) to reach the optimal
balance and nutritional requirement

Day 8: Reading Nutritional Labels.
The importance of reading and understanding food labels. As a consumer, one
needs to make wise choices about the food we eat. This is where food labels
come in. They help us make informed decisions towards choosing good nutrition
and health.
5 steps to help you read the label.
Step 1: Look at the serving size
Compare the serving size on the package to the amount that you eat. If you eat
the serving size shown on the Nutrition Facts Table you will get the amount of
calories and nutrients that are listed.
Step 2: Look at the calories
Calories tell you how much energy you get from one serving of a packaged food.
Step 3: Look at the per cent Daily Value (% Daily Value)
% Daily Value puts nutrients on a scale from 0% to 100%. This scale tells you if
there is a little or a lot of a nutrient in one serving of a packaged food. Use this
percentage to compare the nutrient content of different foods.
5% DV or less is a little
15% DV or more is a lot
Step 4: Try to get more of these nutrients

Fibre, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium
Step 5 : Try to get less of these nutrients
Fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, cholesterol
You can use the Nutrition Facts to:
Compare products more easily
Find out the nutritional value of foods
Better manage special diets, such as one that is low in sodium
Increase or decrease your intake of a particular nutrient (for example, increase
fibre, decrease saturated fat)

Being active, especially with consistent exercise is most beneficial. The ideal
equation to a healthy, active lifestyle is 80% NUTRITION and 20% EXERCISE.
But always remember that exercise does not give you license to eat. Exercise may

Day 11 Protein Type and Where You Can Get Them
Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are
mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You
also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein
is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.
Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the
body needs relatively large amounts of it. Vitamins and minerals, which are
needed in only small quantities, are called "micronutrients." But unlike fat and
carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to
draw on when it needs a new supply.
Protein can help you shed those unwanted pounds and keep your belly full. But
it's important to eat the right amount and the right kind of protein to get its

Day 14 How often should you Eat?
According to research, eating 4-5 small meals during the day instead of three
larger meals, allows for a slower, continuous absorption of food, which prevents
your body from ever switching over to a fasting state.
Among the benefits are decreased blood sugar levels after meals, reduced insulin
requirements during the course of the day and lower blood cholesterol levels.
Eating several small meals may also decrease your hunger and reduce the overall
number of calories you eat during the day.

Day 15 Healthy Snacks
For almost anyone trying to watch their weight, choosing healthy snacks can be a
challenge.
Even though snacking has developed a "bad image," snacks can be an important
part of your diet.
They can provide energy in the middle of the day or when you exercise. A healthy
snack between meals can also decrease your hunger and keep you from
overeating at meal time.
There are many snacks to choose from, and certainly not all snacks are healthy or
help you manage your weight. Try not to bring unhealthy snacks into the house. If
they are not available you will not be able to snack mindlessly.

Day 16 Cravings
A big part of weight control is learning how to control cravings.
We have these cravings when we want to eat the unhealthiest, tastiest of foods,
and that’s when we often overeat and, consequently, gain weight. These cravings
could also be because of an imbalance in your food intake. When we discover the
imbalance, we can work on that, reducing the cravings and feeling better all
around.
Best way to control cravings is to eat less sugar, which when we take makes us get
hungry again in a short span of time. Practice taking frequent but small meals,
instead. More protein intake helps a lot, too.

Day 17 All about Carbohydrates
Two types of carbohydrates:
Complex carbs: Carbs found in whole, unprocessed foods, including fruits,
vegetables, legumes and whole grains
Simple carbs: Sugars and starches that have been refined and stripped of their
natural fiber and nutrients
Bottom line: Complex carbs are found in whole, unprocessed foods. Simple carbs
are found in processed foods and have little nutritional value
Complex carbs are highly nutritious, but simple carbs are not.

Day 19 RENI and Portion Size
Called Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) before, the set of updated standards
is now called Recommended Energy and Nutrient Intakes (RENIs), defined as
levels of intakes of energy and nutrients which, on the basis of current scientific
knowledge, are considered adequate for the maintenance of good health and
well-being.
Make sure to get RENIs from the food that you eat.

Day 20 Importance of Sleep
Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. For example, sleep is
involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep
deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high
blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.
Sleep deficiency also increases the risk of obesity. For example, one study of
teenagers showed that with each hour of sleep lost, the odds of becoming obese
went up. Sleep deficiency increases the risk of obesity in other age groups as well.
Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel
hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don't get enough sleep, your level of
ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier
than when you're well-rested.
Sleep also affects how your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that controls your
blood glucose (sugar) level. Sleep deficiency results in a higher than normal blood
sugar level, which may increase your risk for diabetes.
Sleep also supports healthy growth and development. Deep sleep triggers the
body to release the hormone that promotes normal growth in children and teens.
This hormone also boosts muscle mass and helps repair cells and tissues in
children, teens, and adults. Sleep also plays a role in puberty and fertility.

Your immune system relies on sleep to stay healthy. This system defends your
body against foreign or harmful substances. Ongoing sleep deficiency can change
the way in which your immune system responds. For example, if you're sleep

We need to come up with a name justifiable enough for the purpose. Needless to say, it should be the heart and soul of our mission, thus, A.K.A.Y. was born. A.K.A.Y. stands for Ang Kalusugan Ay Yaman (Health is Wealth). And the tagalog word “akay” means magturo, ituro, pumatnubay, patnubayan or in english to guide, to lead by the hand. True enough, there is no such thing as coincidence. God has a perfect plan and perfect timing for all of us and that… everything happens for a reason. While my husband and I was thinking of how best to call our mission, it was inevitable to look back and recall our past experiences and understand why we are here and why we do the mission. After experiencing three(3) straight years of death in the family due to illness, and being under the influence of drugs ourselves (these are prescripted drugs). We prayed and prayed and prayed that we need a way out to combat our then sickly selves. We ourselves went through the program and experienced results the way no medical drugs have provided! We learned that proper nutrition is the key. We are what we eat and what we eat manifests in our life. Look at the Photo as an example. - Fast Food is high in calorie - Even drinks have calories. Water lang ang 0 calorie - Sweets and Candies are high in calories as well. When you go over the calorie given to you tendency is you'll maintain the weight to current weight or gain more weight. Stick to your Meal Plan for Best Result☝ Comment your magic number. As a consumer, one needs to make wise choices about the food we eat. This is where food labels come in. Step 1: Look at the serving size Compare the serving size on the package to the amount that you eat. If you eat the serving size shown on the Nutrition Facts Table you will get the amount of calories and nutrients that are listed. Step 2: Look at the calories Calories tell you how much energy you get from one serving of a packaged food. Step 3: Look at the per cent Daily Value (% Daily Value) % Daily Value puts nutrients on a scale from 0% to 100%. This scale tells you if there is a little or a lot of a nutrient in one serving of a packaged food. Use this percentage to compare the nutrient content of different foods. 5% DV or less is a little 15% DV or more is a lot Step 4: Try to get more of these nutrients

For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. Sleep deficiency also increases the risk of obesity. For example, one study of teenagers showed that with each hour of sleep lost, the odds of becoming obese went up. Sleep deficiency increases the risk of obesity in other age groups as well. Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don't get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than when you're well-rested. Sleep also affects how your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that controls your blood glucose (sugar) level. Sleep deficiency results in a higher than normal blood sugar level, which may increase your risk for diabetes. Sleep also supports healthy growth and development. Deep sleep triggers the body to release the hormone that promotes normal growth in children and teens. This hormone also boosts muscle mass and helps repair cells and tissues in children, teens, and adults. Sleep also plays a role in puberty and fertility.
