In this world there is many different types of marriages. Marriages vary between different cultures
and different generations throughout the world. Today, people can be married to someone of the
same sex, where as many generations ago same sex marriage was not even a thought. Different

polyandry. Polygamy means a spouse can have multiple spouses. Polyandry means a women can
have multiple husbands. Polygyny means a man can have multiple wives. Polygyny would be the
right term to use since it's the only one allowed in Islam. In Islam, there are two types of marriages
permitted, monogamy and limited polygyny. Limited polygyny comes with some restrictions stated
in the Quran. In Islam, marriage is a sign of God's power and glory. Marriage is completing half the
faith. The Quran says "from His signs is that He has created for you spouses from yourselves so

Polygamy is that which involves a person possessing more than one spouse. When a man is

Should polygamy be legalized in United States? Love and marriage is traditionally defined by the
union of two people. However, one may argue that there are overwhelming benefits of a
nontraditional marriage. It's often quoted that it takes a village to raise a child, not just one mother
and one father in a household. This view is supported within polygamy. Polygamy is defined as "A
marriage in which a spouse of either sex may have more than one mate at the same time"
(Marriam–Webster). This practice of polygamy goes back for most of man's recorded history and
is mentioned in most major religions. Even though most religions do not practice polygamy
anymore it is still apart the Islamic and Mormon doctrine. It is illegal in the United States to marry
someone while still lawfully married to another person. The outlaw of polygamy is a violation of a
citizen's Constitutional right to practice their religion. For those who currently practice outside the
law, this creates a constitutional midpoint where they may be imprisoned for exercising their rights.
Although it may be illegal in the United States, polygamy is a principle aspect of several religions;
it supports women and children and it helps reduce the number of unmarried women. The First
