The document discusses the opening sequence for a horror film genre. It establishes setting and tone through dim lighting, shadowy figures, and fake blood to create an eerie and mysterious feeling. It also introduces different character stereotypes like a drunk man and playing child to represent various types of people. Research found horror is a popular genre among women aged 16 to 24, so the opening aims to attract this target audience with suspenseful details like a car crash. Planning the scene location and props was challenging but contributed to making the setting seem realistic. Various camera shots and editing skills were learned through creating the opening sequence.
2. The genre of our opening sequence is a horror therefore we used many
different ways to show this genre to the audience. Horror films often
feature scenes that startle the viewer through the means of macabre and
the supernatural. Thus they may overlap the fantasy and supernatural
Genres. In our opening sequence we haven’t shown much of the fantasy and
supernatural genre but have shown things that relate to the horror genre e.g
Dark mysterious room, shadow figures etc.
The lighting in our opening sequence played quite a big
part. The lighting of in one of the scenes was dimmed
down to create a mysterious and eerie feeling. The props
that are used e.g fake blood, is used to show the audience
that the movie will be a bit gory and staying true to its
horror genre.
3. In our opening sequence we have featured
many different types of people. Firstly the
audience are first shown a drunk man, he is
being represented as a drunk person by
carrying a beer can and unkempt hair which is
basically the stereotype for a drunk person.
Also a child of the age of ten is shown and is
represented by wearing colourful clothing and
playing around in the street.
4. From the analysis of our questionnaire we
found out that the most popular film genre is
horror therefore we were able to know what
the audience would like to see. Also from the
analysis, the ages from our questionnaire was
aged from 16-24 and also the majority of
women prefer to watch movies therefore the
audience for our media product are women
aged 16 to 24.
5. To attract our target audience we used young
teenagers and added as much action to catch
our audiences eye by adding the big details
to create suspense such as a car crash.
6. During this planning I learnt a lot about the
mise-en-scene, which is the setting of a
scene. The location we were to do the video
was quite hard to choose from since we
were quite limited to the places we could go
and we had to choose the right place to
make it seem realistic. The props used
during the video was all brought in by the
members of the group and contributed well
to the video
7. I have learnt a great deal since the preliminary
task. I have learnt that different camera shots
really does effect the whole of the movie and
contributes to the way the audience will
understand the movie. While editing my
opening sequence there was a continuous use
of Final Cut Pro and I learnt successfully how
to use it.
