Until now, narrow bandwidths made
centralizing resources less efficient.
Centralizing resources makes network
management easier, more reliable, and
cheaper – the LEB-200 series is designed
precisely for this application.
The LEB-200/S Fast Ethernet backbone
link delivers high-speed connectivity without
protocol conversion. In the department,
network managers can use LANNET
LANswitch Plus LSE-series Ethernet
switching modules to connect workstations
to the hubs. Then the department hub can
be connected to a collapsed backbone hub
with the LEB-200/S. Servers can be
attached to the collapsed backbone hub
with LFE-4004S or LFE-100 Fast Ethernet
modules. Alternately, Visage workgroup
switching hubs are connected to the central
hub via a Visage Fast Ethernet switch.

modules, the LEB-200 and LEB-200S are

technology that delivers low latency
throughput and ensures full non blocking
access under any load conditions.
The LEB-200/S keep local traffic local.
Local traffic does not saturate the backbone
connection, reducing the load on the mission-
critical data links in the network.

Performance of the LEB-200 and LEB-200S
is further enhanced by the ATM-like
features included in every LANswitch Plus
module: congestion management, priority,
and fairness.
C O N G E S T I O N M A N A G E M E N T
LANswitch Plus guarantees the delivery of
each packet by effectively controlling
overload conditions. At any level of traffic
load, even under the highest bandwidth
demanding conditions, no-packet-loss is
ensured by the unique congestion
management mechanisms built into every
LANswitch Plus module.
This mechanism prevents the “snowball”
effect which arises when packets are lost
due to congestion and retransmitted packets
start clogging the network.
The LEB-200 and LEB-200S extend
flow control over the full-duplex Fast
Ethernet backbone link, providing end-to-
end flow control.

The difference between the two modules is
the maximum supported link length. The
LEB-200 supports fiber-optic links of up to
two kilometers; the LEB-200S supports
links of up to 15 kilometers.

LANNET LANswitch Plus has built-in
fairness and priority mechanisms that
guarantee the transmission of high-priority
packets to their addresses on time, without
affecting the delivery of non-prioritized
data.
Using fairness, LANswitch Plus
maintains balanced, non-proliferating traffic
from all switch ports which eliminates
pressure points in the switch.
LANswitch Plus prioritization allows the
network manager to assign priorities to
specific sources of packets (e.g.,multimedia
and real-time applications), ensuring the
optimal availability of network resources.
Prioritization provides the isochronous
service required for multimedia and other
delay-sensitive applications. What’s more,
LANswitch Plus delivers these features
using standard NICs, drivers, and cabling,
and serves as an end-to-end extension for
ATM Quality of Service standards.

The LEB-200 series extends VLANs
(logically defined workgroup) from the hub
across the entire network. VLANs allow
users within logical groups to work together
