Ocean Pollution Essay
Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water
we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's
why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct.
People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as
we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean
as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too
clear.
There are many different ways the ocean can become polluted....show more content...
Fishnets improperly discarded into the ocean can also cause major issues, tangling into unsuspecting
mammals and fish. According to the Marin Academy's Oceanography website, there are over
46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of ocean off the Northeast coast of the United
States, which contributes to the death of 100,000 marine mammals and two millions sea birds yearly.
A way you wouldn't expect pollution to be caused is by noise. The pressure from the sounds omitted
by ships, sonar devices, oil rigs, and earthquakes can disrupt communication, hunting, migration, and
reproduction patterns from many marine animals like whales and dolphins. This can throw the
whole system off balance. Air pollution can also cause ocean pollution by being absorbed into the
water and contaminating it, and vice versa. Ocean pollution can eventually cause air pollution. Dirt
can also spill into waterways from top soil or silt from fields or construction sites, causing
endangerment to fish and wildlife habitats.
Out of all of these ways, oil spills can cause a noticeably excessive amount of damage to the ocean.
Although only 12% of the oil entering the sea is caused by spills, they can deteriorate ocean life and
environment more than any other pollution. One gallon of used oil spilled into the ocean, which
contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals severely dangerous to the micro–organism at the base of
the food chain, can cause an eight–acre layer

Essay On Air Pollution
Air is an indispensable part of human, animal and plant lives. Without it, no organisms would be
able to survive on Earth (Reference, 2017). Due to excessive human activities, air pollution has
become a detrimental worldwide issue in current days (Sciencing, 2017). However, scientists have
found new chemicals that can assist in improving the air quality (Phys.org, 2017). Moreover, humans
are able to adopt many methods to help decrease the severity of contamination released into the
earth's atmosphere. This investigation is linked to 'application and limitation' in 'science as a Human
Endeavour'.
Chemical Background and Link to SHE
Oxygen is a part of the air and it is responsible for aerobic respiration in humans, animals and some
microorganisms to produce energy and to function. Air also contains carbon dioxide, and it is a
crucial part of photosynthesis in primary producers, such as plants, for the production of chemical
energy (Reference, 2017).
The article 'New Green Solvent Could Help Clean Our Air' has clearly demonstrated the application
and limitation of using chemicals to filter the contaminated air that affects human health. In the
second paragraph, the author mentioned the shortcomings of existing methods that can clean
contaminated air were toxic and expensive. This suggests that scientists understood these limitations
and were able to gain new opportunities to develop solutions to polluted air (Phys.org, 2017).
The following paragraph has explained the

Pollution refers to impurity into the environment of particles which has harmful effect on health.
There are many forms of pollution, like air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution which impact
health and environment. High air pollution level is responsible for health issues in Delhi. Over the
last few years, the level of pollution has changed significantly in India and specifically in
Delhi.Due to increased traffic on roads, traffic movement is slow which forces vehicles to move in
lower speed which reduces efficiency and emission level increases. Another cause of vehicular
pollution is increase in number of diesel vehicles, which is also a major contributor to air pollution.
According to Department of Transport of Delhi, there are more than 7.6 million vehicles on
National Capital region and which grows at a target rate of 14% per annum. Due to air pollution
people are suffering from Lung and heart disease. In addition to 7.6 million registered vehicles of
Delhi and equal number of vehicles enter Delhi everyday which add to air pollution. In order to
control Vehicular pollution, we have to adopt and implement stringent steps to reduce the vehicular
pollution. The feasible solutions to control pollution is to reduce the number of vehicles on roads
by introducing concept of odd/even rule for playing the vehicles, ban on registration of diesel cars
which is major source of vehicular pollution, introduction of CNG (Combined National GAS) for
taxis coming in delhi these steps will reduce vehicular pollution and help people to breath clean air.
In order to reduce the congestion of road, the proposal is to apply odd/even rule for playing the
vehicles wherein vehicles with odd number registration plates will run on odd dates and vehicles
with even number registration plates will run on Even dates. This will be applicable between 8
AM to 8 PM and will result into challan but no compounding of Vehicles. This rule will be
applicable to all the government Vehicles and vehicles coming out of Delhi. There will be
exemption for CNG Cars, cars driven by women with kids, President of India Vehicles, Prime
minister and

Essay On Air Pollution
Introduction
From my studying in this unit, I understand that air pollution transpires in various patterns, however,
it can generally be thought of as gaseous and particulate contaminants that are existing in the earth's
atmosphere.
Chemicals discharged into the air that has a direct impact on the environment are called primary
pollutants. These primary pollutants sometimes react with other chemicals in the air to produce
secondary pollutants.
Air pollution has become a very high–priced environmental predicament when one views it in line
with human lives and looking at it from the perspective of repairing damages in humans the money
spent on health care and also crop damage.
Basically, air pollution introduces toxic materials into the...show more content...
Also, we have a many small and large industries in my city I learnt that during production when
carbon monoxide hydrocarbons, organic compounds, chemicals are being released in to the air it
causes huge amount of air pollution, thinking about this I now understand why my grandfather
never wanted to live in the city he always complains about a large carpet manufacturing company in
my city, at the back of the factory is a large pipe that let out smoke from the machine he said it
smells bad.
In summary, air pollution comes mainly from motor vehicles and electric generators. The rampant
burning of refuse in the open atmosphere is also a contributor. But in my community, the main
source among these three sources is motor vehicles.
How my community compares to others: From a Thisday online publication 2016 mention,
according to CNN, four of the worst cities in the world for air pollution are in Nigeria, according to
data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Onitsha a city few outside Nigeria will have heard of has the undignified honour of being labelled
the world's most polluted city for air quality, when measuring small particulate matter concentration
(PM10). From the CNN report it further explain that the other three cities named and shamed in the
WHO report for high PM10 levels are the transport hub of Kaduna, in the

Essay about Pollution
Pollution has become a major issue over the years. It has caused death, disease, and many health
problems. It is a major concern of our world today and not much is being done to prevent it. If not
all, a lot of pollution is caused by humans. There are different types like industrial, agricultural, etc.
Many people are realizing now the threat that pollution poses to humans.
There are three main types of pollution. They are land, air, and water pollution. Land pollution deals
with dumps or other harmful substances. Strip mining, digging, and irrigation are types of land
pollution also. They aren't as harmful to us but they scar and hurt the land. Landfills are a major
source of...show more content...
Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the air and cannot be taken out by its natural
process. This upsets the balance of the atmospheres natural cycle.
There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful.
Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial
processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called
perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and
heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly
poisonous.
One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of
gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other
petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful
chemicals that make up smog.
Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources.
Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills
marine life, and

"Ours, a water planet. The ocean covers 71 percent of the surface of the globe, and it constitutes
over 90 percent of all habitable space on Earth. It's total volume is around 300 million cubic miles
and its weight is approximately 1.3 million million million tons. No wonder that Arthur C. Clarke,
scientist and writer, once remarked that it was 'inappropriate to call this planet Earth, when clearly it
is ocean.* * (Mulvaney 28). Ocean pollution is growing out of control, and the clean up of our
world's oceans is critical.
Ocean pollution is now a big problem facing us in everyday life. For years we have been trying to
stop the dumping of trash, chemicals, and toxic waste into our oceans but the people who do it,

It Is also said, that at any given time, the ocean contains over 280,000 tons of tar balls. All kinds
of garbage, ranging from fishing nets to trash, from cargo ships to litter on the beaches, finds its
way into coastal waters and the ocean. Here, it traps, ensnares, and entangles marine wildlife such
as many different species of marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. Plastic pellets have been
found on the surface of the Pacific at concentrations of 21,000 per square mile; a cleanup exercise on
the coast of Texas yielded 15,600 six–pack rings along 1.8 miles of coastline; and a National
Academy of Sciences review once estimated that over 14 billion pounds of garbage enters the ocean
from sea–based sources alone. In the 1980's, it was reckoned that 30,000 northern fur seals died each
year after becoming entangled in marine debris, principally lost or abandoned fishing gear. Heavy
metals––mercury and lead, for example––and organochlorine compounds such as PCBs and DDT,
have been associated with a wide variety of impacts on marine wildlife(Mulvaney 29–30). A serious
form of ocean pollution might be heading to the coast of New Jersey starting in October. The
conflict is that the New York Port Authority wants to dredge New York Harbor, which is full of
contaminates such as mercury and other toxic and harmful substances, off of Sandy Hook,

Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major
problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but
damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It
is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed
logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is
immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be
near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content...
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go
somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped
into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But
people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see
it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash
problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been
known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively
small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies
pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death
have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It
causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to
return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single
barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot
water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth

There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful. Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly poisonous. One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful chemicals that make up smog. Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources. Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills marine life, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about Pollution Pollution "Ours, a water planet. The ocean covers 71 percent of the surface of the globe, and it constitutes over 90 percent of all habitable space on Earth. It's total volume is around 300 million cubic miles and its weight is approximately 1.3 million million million tons. No wonder that Arthur C. Clarke, scientist and writer, once remarked that it was 'inappropriate to call this planet Earth, when clearly it is ocean.* * (Mulvaney 28). Ocean pollution is growing out of control, and the clean up of our world's oceans is critical. Ocean pollution is now a big problem facing us in everyday life. For years we have been trying to stop the dumping of trash, chemicals, and toxic waste into our oceans but the people who do it, ...show more content... It Is also said, that at any given time, the ocean contains over 280,000 tons of tar balls. All kinds of garbage, ranging from fishing nets to trash, from cargo ships to litter on the beaches, finds its way into coastal waters and the ocean. Here, it traps, ensnares, and entangles marine wildlife such as many different species of marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. Plastic pellets have been found on the surface of the Pacific at concentrations of 21,000 per square mile; a cleanup exercise on the coast of Texas yielded 15,600 six–pack rings along 1.8 miles of coastline; and a National Academy of Sciences review once estimated that over 14 billion pounds of garbage enters the ocean from sea–based sources alone. In the 1980's, it was reckoned that 30,000 northern fur seals died each year after becoming entangled in marine debris, principally lost or abandoned fishing gear. Heavy metals––mercury and lead, for example––and organochlorine compounds such as PCBs and DDT, have been associated with a wide variety of impacts on marine wildlife(Mulvaney 29–30). A serious form of ocean pollution might be heading to the coast of New Jersey starting in October. The conflict is that the New York Port Authority wants to dredge New York Harbor, which is full of contaminates such as mercury and other toxic and harmful substances, off of Sandy Hook, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Pollution Pollution Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue. Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content... American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves. The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
