Essay on Pollution in the World
Pollution in the World A vast area under discussion, mostly in this day and age, pollution is a
poisonous or harmful contamination of the biosphere.
There are many different forms of pollution including litter, industrial effluent, domestic waste,
nuclear waste, toxic waste, water pollution, agricultural pollution, noise pollution and air pollution.
Air pollution, being the main area of concern due to its threatening symptoms, comes from a range
of various sources such as factories, power plants, dry cleaners, motor vehicles and even windblown
dust and wildfires.
It can be divided into particulate and gaseous...show more content...
The concentration of various pollutants in the environment may well show a discrepancy from area
to area, because of local differences in the type of emissions involved and differences in landscape
and weather conditions.

Taken from an article by Paul Phillips and Pam Pickering in School Science Review, March 1991.
The main sources of pollution in the lower atmosphere caused by the use of motor vehicles come
from three major pollutants generated by vehicles, – hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and carbon
monoxide.
Hydrocarbons are an alarm because combined with nitrogen oxides they can produce a brutal
chemical concoction. The actual crisis occurs when the sun shines. Chemical reactions can lead to
the formation of photochemical smog, a horrible haze that often hangs over urban areas. Nitrogen
oxides assist the formation of acid rain. Carbon monoxide, a colourless, odourless and deadly gas
can blight mental functions and visual observation and in extreme cases lead to death.
These pollutants are released into the earths atmosphere when –
– Fuel is burned in the internal combustion engine and the gasoline residuals are emitted through the
tailpipe.
– Heat causes fuel to

Environmental Pollution
Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water
pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global
warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources.
Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140
million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair
pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when
sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and

Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations
for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose
hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into
streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests
pump fresh oxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide.
Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in
Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A
process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down
forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them
into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon.
These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning
was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun.
Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a
result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1 percent of depletion of the
ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5

Essay about Pollution
Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major
problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but
damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It
is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed
logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is
immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be
near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content...
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go
somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped
into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But
people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see
it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash
problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been
known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively
small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies
pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death
have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It
causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to
return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single
barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot
water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth

Essay about Pollution
Pollution has become a major issue over the years because it contaminates the Earth's environment
and affects human health. While some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes such as
volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities. The increase of various types of pollution has
made cancer pollutant more prevalent among the people, raising the risk of getting cancer. After
being exposed to theses pollutants, the effects may be immediate or delayed. Some of the delayed
effects, due to the exposure, can go unnoticed for many years. Another major issue thatpollution
creates is the tremendous cost for preventing and cleaning it up. However, we can not regulate the
pollutants to the extent where there are no more possible...show more content...
One possible way to control the carcinogenic pollutant is to get a bill passed by Congress, which
makes it mandatory for industrial places to reduce the amount of pollution they create. By reducing
the amount of pollution production, the exposure level of the carcinogenic pollutant will decrease.
This law enforces the industrial companies to establish new methods and strategies to create their
products with less pollution distribution in the end. As another preventive measure, there are
products available to the population that contains carcinogenic elements that can be taken off the
market until they are redesigned and approved by the government. One last effort to regulate the
cancer pollutant is to increase the funds for research so that we can have a better understanding of
cancer and how to cure it. Consequently, we can create better drugs available to the population,
which can decrease the chances of people, with cancer, from dying.
Now that we have the regulations into effect, the next thing to do is determine appropriate levels of
exposure and the risk level. However, this raises the question of how do determine what a human life
is worth. There is no conclusive answer to this question, so we have to take risks. If we take the
total number of deaths that occur every year in the world or a particular country and divide that by
the number deaths

Essay about Pollution
Pollution has become a major issue over the years. It has caused death, disease, and many health
problems. It is a major concern of our world today and not much is being done to prevent it. If not
all, a lot of pollution is caused by humans. There are different types like industrial, agricultural, etc.
Many people are realizing now the threat that pollution poses to humans.
There are three main types of pollution. They are land, air, and water pollution. Land pollution deals
with dumps or other harmful substances. Strip mining, digging, and irrigation are types of land
pollution also. They aren't as harmful to us but they scar and hurt the land. Landfills are a major
source of...show more content...
Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the air and cannot be taken out by its natural
process. This upsets the balance of the atmospheres natural cycle.
There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful.
Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial
processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called
perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and
heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly
poisonous.
One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of
gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other
petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful
chemicals that make up smog.
Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources.
Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills
marine life, and

Land Pollution
Land pollution is basically about contaminating the land surface of the earth through dumping urban
waste matter indiscriminately, dumping of industrial waste, mineral exploitation, and misusing the
soil by harmful agricultural practices. Pollution includes visible litter and waste along with the soil
itself being polluted. The soil gets polluted by the chemicals in pesticides and herbicides used for
agricultural purposes along with waste matter being littered in urban areas such as roads, parks, and
streets.
Land pollution is the result of human misuse of...show more content...
We often ignore the fact that land constitutes soil, which is one of the most important natural
resources. While discussing the causes and effects of pollution, we speak of water and air pollution
and rarely even think of the adverse effects of land pollution.
Land Pollutants Comprise: Solid Waste and Soil Pollution
Solid Waste
Semisolid or solid matter that are created by human or animal activities, and which are disposed
because they are hazardous or useless are known as solid waste. Most of the solid wastes, like
paper, plastic containers, bottles, cans, and even used cars and electronic goods are not
biodegradable, which means they do not get broken down through inorganic or organic processes.
Thus, when they accumulate they pose a health threat to people, plus, decaying wastes also attract
household pests and result in urban areas becoming unhealthy, dirty, and unsightly places to reside
in. Moreover, it also causes damage to terrestrial organisms, while also reducing the uses of the land
for other, more useful purposes.
Some of the sources of solid waste that cause soil pollution are:
в—Џ Wastes from Agriculture– This comprises waste matter produced by crop, animal manure, and
farm residues.
в—Џ Wastes from Mining – Piles of coal refuse and heaps of slag.
в—Џ Wastes from Industries – Industrial waste matter that can cause land pollution can include
paints, chemicals,

Essay about Agricultural pollution
There are countless sources of water pollutions that exist today due to our industrious and
technologically advanced lifestyles. However, the most vexing is caused by the most basic necessity
for survival, Agricultural Pollution. Agricultural Pollution is defined as, " liquid and solid wastes
from all types of farming activities, including run–off from pesticide and fertilizer use, and from
feedlots; erosion and dust from ploughing; animal manure and carcasses; and crop residues and
debris. In essence Agricultural Pollution is a nonpoint source water pollutant since it comes from
various locations and cannot be pinpointed" (EPA–web). Although there are many practices already
in place that will decrease the pollution, increase...show more content...
Livestock Grazing
Overgrazing exposes soil, increasing the chances of erosion, encourages adverse plants, and destroys
water filtering vegetation.
Irrigation
Excessive irrigation can decrease the amount of water that flows naturally into streams and rivers by
erosion as well as transport concentrated salts to.
Pesticides
As with the other chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, are used to produce a quality
product for the consumers. These chemicals affect water pollution through run off, direct application,
and atmospheric deposition.

outside of the enthusiastic environmentalist, the Neuse and Trent Rivers are heavily contaminated

collection for drinking. After Hurricane Irene hit the area, in August 2011, the Neuse River Keeper
Foundation set out to collect samples to see what damage had been done.

Pollution
"Ours, a water planet. The ocean covers 71 percent of the surface of the globe, and it constitutes
over 90 percent of all habitable space on Earth. It's total volume is around 300 million cubic miles
and its weight is approximately 1.3 million million million tons. No wonder that Arthur C. Clarke,
scientist and writer, once remarked that it was 'inappropriate to call this planet Earth, when clearly it
is ocean.* * (Mulvaney 28). Ocean pollution is growing out of control, and the clean up of our
world's oceans is critical.
Ocean pollution is now a big problem facing us in everyday life. For years we have been trying to
stop the dumping of trash, chemicals, and toxic waste into our oceans but the people who do it,

It Is also said, that at any given time, the ocean contains over 280,000 tons of tar balls. All kinds
of garbage, ranging from fishing nets to trash, from cargo ships to litter on the beaches, finds its
way into coastal waters and the ocean. Here, it traps, ensnares, and entangles marine wildlife such
as many different species of marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. Plastic pellets have been
found on the surface of the Pacific at concentrations of 21,000 per square mile; a cleanup exercise on
the coast of Texas yielded 15,600 six–pack rings along 1.8 miles of coastline; and a National
Academy of Sciences review once estimated that over 14 billion pounds of garbage enters the ocean
from sea–based sources alone. In the 1980's, it was reckoned that 30,000 northern fur seals died each
year after becoming entangled in marine debris, principally lost or abandoned fishing gear. Heavy
metals––mercury and lead, for example––and organochlorine compounds such as PCBs and DDT,
have been associated with a wide variety of impacts on marine wildlife(Mulvaney 29–30). A serious
form of ocean pollution might be heading to the coast of New Jersey starting in October. The
conflict is that the New York Port Authority wants to dredge New York Harbor, which is full of
contaminates such as mercury and other toxic and harmful substances, off of Sandy Hook,

The increase of various types of pollution has made cancer pollutant more prevalent among the people, raising the risk of getting cancer. After being exposed to theses pollutants, the effects may be immediate or delayed. Some of the delayed effects, due to the exposure, can go unnoticed for many years. Another major issue thatpollution creates is the tremendous cost for preventing and cleaning it up. However, we can not regulate the pollutants to the extent where there are no more possible...show more content... One possible way to control the carcinogenic pollutant is to get a bill passed by Congress, which makes it mandatory for industrial places to reduce the amount of pollution they create. By reducing the amount of pollution production, the exposure level of the carcinogenic pollutant will decrease. This law enforces the industrial companies to establish new methods and strategies to create their products with less pollution distribution in the end. As another preventive measure, there are products available to the population that contains carcinogenic elements that can be taken off the market until they are redesigned and approved by the government. One last effort to regulate the cancer pollutant is to increase the funds for research so that we can have a better understanding of cancer and how to cure it. Consequently, we can create better drugs available to the population, which can decrease the chances of people, with cancer, from dying. Now that we have the regulations into effect, the next thing to do is determine appropriate levels of exposure and the risk level. However, this raises the question of how do determine what a human life is worth. There is no conclusive answer to this question, so we have to take risks. If we take the total number of deaths that occur every year in the world or a particular country and divide that by the number deaths Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about Pollution Pollution has become a major issue over the years. It has caused death, disease, and many health problems. It is a major concern of our world today and not much is being done to prevent it. If not all, a lot of pollution is caused by humans. There are different types like industrial, agricultural, etc. Many people are realizing now the threat that pollution poses to humans. There are three main types of pollution. They are land, air, and water pollution. Land pollution deals with dumps or other harmful substances. Strip mining, digging, and irrigation are types of land pollution also. They aren't as harmful to us but they scar and hurt the land. Landfills are a major source of...show more content... Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the air and cannot be taken out by its natural process. This upsets the balance of the atmospheres natural cycle. There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful. Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly poisonous. One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful chemicals that make up smog. Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources. Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills marine life, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Land Pollution Pamantasan ng Cabuyao College of Business Administration and Accountancy Land Pollution LAND POLLUTION [pic] [pic] Land Pollution Land pollution is basically about contaminating the land surface of the earth through dumping urban waste matter indiscriminately, dumping of industrial waste, mineral exploitation, and misusing the soil by harmful agricultural practices. Pollution includes visible litter and waste along with the soil itself being polluted. The soil gets polluted by the chemicals in pesticides and herbicides used for agricultural purposes along with waste matter being littered in urban areas such as roads, parks, and streets. Land pollution is the result of human misuse of...show more content... We often ignore the fact that land constitutes soil, which is one of the most important natural resources. While discussing the causes and effects of pollution, we speak of water and air pollution and rarely even think of the adverse effects of land pollution. Land Pollutants Comprise: Solid Waste and Soil Pollution Solid Waste Semisolid or solid matter that are created by human or animal activities, and which are disposed because they are hazardous or useless are known as solid waste. Most of the solid wastes, like paper, plastic containers, bottles, cans, and even used cars and electronic goods are not biodegradable, which means they do not get broken down through inorganic or organic processes. Thus, when they accumulate they pose a health threat to people, plus, decaying wastes also attract household pests and result in urban areas becoming unhealthy, dirty, and unsightly places to reside in. Moreover, it also causes damage to terrestrial organisms, while also reducing the uses of the land for other, more useful purposes. Some of the sources of solid waste that cause soil pollution are:

  • 9. Essay about Agricultural pollution There are countless sources of water pollutions that exist today due to our industrious and technologically advanced lifestyles. However, the most vexing is caused by the most basic necessity for survival, Agricultural Pollution. Agricultural Pollution is defined as, " liquid and solid wastes from all types of farming activities, including run–off from pesticide and fertilizer use, and from feedlots; erosion and dust from ploughing; animal manure and carcasses; and crop residues and debris. In essence Agricultural Pollution is a nonpoint source water pollutant since it comes from various locations and cannot be pinpointed" (EPA–web). Although there are many practices already in place that will decrease the pollution, increase...show more content... Livestock Grazing Overgrazing exposes soil, increasing the chances of erosion, encourages adverse plants, and destroys water filtering vegetation. Irrigation Excessive irrigation can decrease the amount of water that flows naturally into streams and rivers by erosion as well as transport concentrated salts to. Pesticides As with the other chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, are used to produce a quality product for the consumers. These chemicals affect water pollution through run off, direct application, and atmospheric deposition. • 10. Essay about Pollution Pollution "Ours, a water planet. The ocean covers 71 percent of the surface of the globe, and it constitutes over 90 percent of all habitable space on Earth. It's total volume is around 300 million cubic miles and its weight is approximately 1.3 million million million tons. No wonder that Arthur C. Clarke, scientist and writer, once remarked that it was 'inappropriate to call this planet Earth, when clearly it is ocean.* * (Mulvaney 28). Ocean pollution is growing out of control, and the clean up of our world's oceans is critical. Ocean pollution is now a big problem facing us in everyday life. For years we have been trying to stop the dumping of trash, chemicals, and toxic waste into our oceans but the people who do it, ...show more content... It Is also said, that at any given time, the ocean contains over 280,000 tons of tar balls. All kinds of garbage, ranging from fishing nets to trash, from cargo ships to litter on the beaches, finds its way into coastal waters and the ocean. Here, it traps, ensnares, and entangles marine wildlife such as many different species of marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. Plastic pellets have been found on the surface of the Pacific at concentrations of 21,000 per square mile; a cleanup exercise on the coast of Texas yielded 15,600 six–pack rings along 1.8 miles of coastline; and a National Academy of Sciences review once estimated that over 14 billion pounds of garbage enters the ocean from sea–based sources alone. In the 1980's, it was reckoned that 30,000 northern fur seals died each year after becoming entangled in marine debris, principally lost or abandoned fishing gear. Heavy metals––mercury and lead, for example––and organochlorine compounds such as PCBs and DDT, have been associated with a wide variety of impacts on marine wildlife(Mulvaney 29–30). A serious form of ocean pollution might be heading to the coast of New Jersey starting in October. The conflict is that the New York Port Authority wants to dredge New York Harbor, which is full of contaminates such as mercury and other toxic and harmful substances, off of Sandy Hook, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
