The education sector globally is facing a lot of challenges: the challenge of numbers, of relevance, of quality, of access, of costs and of speed. The solution to these multiple challenges probably lies in a number of disruptive innovative solutions. These include inculcating self-learning (building on meta-cognition), measuring learning, collaborative and co-operative learning, personalisation of learning and learning analytics. However, in addition to new systems or technologies, we need a fundamental change of perspective. A very promising technological and pedagogical model that has received a lot of attention during the last few years and adoption by Stanford, Harvard, Duke and almost 100 of the world's top ranking Universities to teach millions of learners is that of the MOOC. The Open Educational Resources have become an important part of educational delivery. The establishment of OER University is a milestone in that direction. There are hundreds of OER repositories to allow teachers and students to use, and adopt content. Keeping in view the significance of OERs, we organized The OER MOOC with the purpose to enhance knowledge about OERs and to equip for effective use and adopt OERs in ones programs as well as to be able to create your own OERs and contribute to the pool of OER resources. We further wanted to explore the potential of MOOCs to create a model of simultaneously teaching on-site and off-site learners, using synchronous and a-synchronous teacher learner interactions to deliver high quality learning to large numbers, maybe evolve a model for a classroom of 10,000 learners. In this study, we shall elaborate on our methodology, outcomes and the impact factors The OER MOOC had on the learners.

Mobile technology has become a near-necessity in our modern lives, be it professional, personal and social. It is then not surprising to see mobile technology play a key role in how we are educated as well. To this extent, Mobile Learning (mLearning) has gained much significance over the past few years. With the design of new pedagogies and paradigm shifts, mLearning has become a new academic discipline on its own with a focus on the use of bespoke mobile technologies such as purpose built mobile apps to achieve the set learning outcomes. However, the design, development and implementation of such bespoke technologies require a substantial investmentboth monetarily and time wise. Many Distance Education (DE) practitioners would not have this privilege in terms of delivering their courses. In contrast, there are thousands of mobile applications available for free which can be leveraged to deliver a DE course more effectively and efficiently. In this light, Ishan Abeywardena introduces how these off-the-shelf applications can be systematically incorporated into each stage of the learning process.

The International Academic Relations Division at The Open University of Sri Lanka was established in October of 2013. At that point, the University had recognized the importance of establishing collaborative relationships to increase its international standing, build its global profile, increase the recognition of its academic offerings and conduct high impact research. This vision also aligns with the Government of Sri Lanka’s position for strengthening the education sector of the country through international collaboration. One of the latest initiatives by the IRD is the “Distinguished Lecture Series” which is designed to foster rich academic discourse among Sri Lankan academics. The lecture series further intends to build capacities among Sri Lankan academics in good academic practices; technology-assisted teaching; sound research methodologies; and high impact publications.

In recent years, the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement has achieved considerable success within the academic community with respect to advocacy of the concept. As a result, many organisations such as the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), UNESCO and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), in partnership with academic institutions, have produced large volumes of OER. However, due to the disconnected nature and the constant expansion of volume, many repositories hosting these resources are less frequented or completely ignored by OER users. i.e. only the more popular OER repositories such as Connexions and WikiEducator are frequent stops in the search for academically useful resources. This limitation, in turn, reduces the access to high quality resources hidden away in isolated repositories hosted by lesser known sources. Furthermore, the time and labour required to trawl these repositories with a view of identifying the most suitable OER is tantamount to creating ones’ own material from scratch. As a solution to these issues, this paper discusses how the OERScout technology framework uses a “faceted search” approach to locate the most desirable OER from sources spread throughout the globe. It also highlights how focused searching can greatly improve access to OER readily useable in teaching and learning.

The world is rapidly moving towards a digital culture where teaching and learning is migrated to cyberspace from a conventional brick and mortar classroom. Given that eLearning and mobile learning are attractive propositions for countries with robust technological infrastructure, the global south is still struggling to mainstream digital methods of delivering education due to various technological and financial inhibitors. This has spelled a potential slow death for printed material in developing countries where the medium is predominantly used for delivering education in schools, conventional universities, vocational training institutions and open universities. However, with the rise of OER and multimedia such as YouTube videos, many of these academic institutions are becoming mindful of the richness they bring into the teaching and learning process. Given that multimedia resources cannot be directly integrated into printed material, the only available alternative is to print hyperlinks which teachers and learners can manually type into a web browser. This method becomes ridiculously ineffective as the length of the URL increases. To address this limitation with a special focus on print based ODL course materials, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), which is a regional center of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), developed an innovative solution to seamlessly integrate multimedia into printed material using Quick Response Codes (QR codes) or 2D barcodes and an Android mobile application named “Print2Screen”. This paper highlights the rationale behind Print2Screen, the development process, how the solution is implemented in a real world scenario and the benefits it will bring to the ODL community especially in rural and developing parts of the world where stable access to technology is still a costly commodity.

http://www.isaga2021.com/ THEME: ‘Gaming, Simulation and Innovations: Challenges and Opportunities’. ISAGA2021, the annual international conference of ISAGA, was organised by Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya at its campus in Indore, INDIA on September 6th to 10th, 2021. Across half a century, ISAGA’s saga has been replete with GS events, exchanges of knowledge and experiences in GS, and building bonds between its members on a variety of GS themes such as design, learning, facilitation, and application. ISAGA2021 will receive and discuss papers, posters and workshops in GS with its theme laying special emphasis on three global trends that are characteristic of a rapidly evolving society. It will focus on innovation to develop new processes to solve recurrent nagging problems via GS. It will address social challenges such as the sustainable development goals (SDG) identified by the UNDP. It will probe and evaluate opportunities in learning for a better world. This event is the first ISAGA international conference in India. In ISAGA2021, you may expect a diverse learning experience from the global GS community. The field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses poses unique pedagogical challenges to the teachers. It requires pedagogical approaches like constructivism and skills like problem solving in the part of students. Effective simulations can maximise the impact of learning outcomes with the help of parameters modelling and computer-based dynamic visualizations. One of the good examples is PhET simulations. There are various strategies for enhancing the quality of educational simulations, like constructivist simulations, exploration-based activities, motivation and interactive assignments for student engagement. Use of game design elements in non-game context is another strategy to make learning a joyful activity. Khan Academy employs interesting gamification strategies using learning resources, learning progress tracking, awards, and badges etc. Games have certain elements: aesthetics, mechanics, story, feedback and technology. This presentation will focus on game design elements for educational simulations and would discuss features of some popular educational gamified simulations for STEM fields.

http://www.isaga2021.com/ THEME: ‘Gaming, Simulation and Innovations: Challenges and Opportunities’.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been more than a crisis; it has been a global wake-up call to change our paradigms and the way we perceive the world. Not surprisingly, the pandemic has altered the way we interpret the normal as well as the way we live. Normal, by its nature, is a relative term and, presently, we have different derivations of it: Normal, new normal, and next normal. Nevertheless, it is important to always remember that one’s new normal can be someone else's normal, or one’s normal could have hitherto been a new normal for someone else. Likewise, normal and new normal for some can be the next normal for others. These derivations of normal suggest that we are experiencing an unprecedented time, one marked by major shifts in the way we understand and interpret different areas of life, not least of all education, which has and will continue to undergo changes, particularly in the way we teach and learn.

Its 4 WEEK MOOC on Cooperative Learning Pedagogy which is developed under online mentoring program of UNESCO Chair on Open Technologies for Open Educational Resources and Open Learning. Its free of Cost Course. It aims at promoting the use of cooperative learning for quality education at school, college & university level. As we know that Cooperative learning (CL) has been described as one of the most widely investigated educational approaches (Slavin, 1996). In Modern day teaching learning process, the role of a teacher needs to be as a facilitator of children’s learning. Cooperative learning strategies are also providing structure in which students have an opportunity to raise logical questions, discuss the content with his peer group, and imitate higher order thinking, critical evaluation of idea, etc. in team work. This project would focus on introduction of cooperative learning as learner centered pedagogy as new approach to quality education. Theoretical concept of cooperative learning, related terms and strategies will be discussed with the learners. Out of various strategies of cooperative learning, two main strategies Jigsaw and STAD (which are used across the world in different subjects) will be discussed with learners along with its various steps of implementation. Advantages of both strategies will also be shared with the learners. After going through the course learners will be able to develop and execute plan for use of these strategies in their classroom. Learned material can be integrated in teaching-learning process and make learning more practical and enjoyable.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
