2. I AM `MASARIELE RASEENG, A THIRD YEAR STUDENT
FROM LESOTHO COLLEGE OF EDUCATION I PRESENT
ABOUT WOUNDS AND THEIR SAFETY MEASURES.
3. A wound is an injury or damage to the body`s tissue
typically involving a break in the skin. Wounds can be
caused by various factors such as trauma, surgery, and
burns. It can be internal or external on the body tissue.
4. 1.OPEN WOUNDS: A break in the skin and mucous membrane.
2.CLOSED WOUNDS: Involves injury to underlying tissues
without a break in the skin or mucous membrane.
5. Incised wounds: Are from knives razor blades. They cause
profuse bleeding.
6. Burn wound are injuries caused exposure to
heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation they are
classified into degrees based on the depth and
severity of tissue damage.
7. PUNCTURED WOUND
Is caused by a sharp, pointed object puncturing the skin and
underlying tissues, creating a small deep hole.
GUN SHOT WOUND
May be due to a bullet entering the body and exit the body
resulting in large exit wound.
8. LACERATION
Maybe from barbed wire claws of animals or machinery causing
irregular torn skin.
GRASE
May result from a sliding fall, where superficial layers of skin
are scraped off leaving off a tender raw area.
9. Have serious injuries as they may involve internal bleeding.
The underlying organs maybe punctured or lacerated.
The intestines may protrude through the wound and there is high
risk of infection associated with this wound
signs and symptoms
General abdominal pain.
Part of internal may be out.
The casualty may vomit and may go into shock.
Bleeding and seeing a wound on the abdomen.
10. Abrasions: scrapes or scratches on the skin.
Contusions: bruises or discoloration of skin due to bleeding
underneath. They often appear as a dark purple or blue
discoloration on the skin.
Scalp : is a injury to the skin on the head, and it can range
from minor cut to a more serious head injury.
11. Squeeze the edges of the wound together.
Apply a dressing on the wound on the wound and secure with
a bandage or adhesive strapping.
Place the casualty in half sitting position with knees bent up
and shoulders supported. This helps to prevent strain on the
wound.
If he or she becomes unconscious place recovery position. If
breathing and or heat beat stop, start artificial ventilation and
external chest compressions.
Check and record pulse and breathing every ten minutes.
12. If the casualty coughs or vomits support the abdomen by
pressing gently on the dressing to prevent intestinal
protrusion.
Transport immediately to the health centre or hospital to get
more help.
Do not give any casualty anything per mouth.
13. It is important for people to take care of themselves when using
sharp object, always hold with a secure grip to avoid accident.
People should keep their environment tidy and free from
clutter, this will reduce risk of tripping or falling which lead to
unnecessary accident.
