2. Mise-en-scene
This film was made in 2006 and was created by Jennifer Kent. In this movie there is
a unusual doll that a little kid is playing with. The kid is pretending to kill the doll
as if it was real. This doll turns into a big monster and it lives under the stairs. This
monster terrorizes the family. The monster is being controlled by the mother. Its
kind of being treated like and naughty child
The lighting in this film is low key. It makes the scene scary and it builds up the
tension. At the start of the film there was a bit of brightness.
Costumes- the mothers costume and the sons costume was bright which
symbolizes that they’re good people. The monster was in dark colours which
means that the monster is the bad person in the film.
3. Camera
There was a lot of camera shots used in this film that you would see in classic
horror movies. E.g. close ups. Wide shots and more. These are some of the most
common shots you would see in a classic horror movie
The reason why there are these kind of camera shots is to build up some kind of
tension that makes the audience feel like something is going to happen in the
movie.
4. Sound
The main sound in this film was the little kid screaming which makes the audience
have a jump scare because it makes them feel like something is going to happen.
This will build up the tension. The boy scrams continuously, it’s kind of like a
indication to warn the audience that somethings going to happen.
during this film you hear other sounds like the boiling pot. That’s kind of like
another indication. At some parts of this scene the cameras keep coming back to
the sizzling pot.
