3. Portia – Background
• The promoter’s prior experience of working with MNC brand like BASKIN
ROBBINS, prompted him to start a food product business of his own. His
success with Baskin Robbins was a big plus for his motivation to start a business
of his own.
• PORTIA FOODS PVT LTD was formed in December 2006 , as a private limited
company by Mr.S.Venkatramanan to enter into the food products business.
• In due course of time Portia started BASKIN ROBBINS outlets in two prominent
localities of Chennai metropolis, viz., ADYAR & KILPAUK
• Later Portia got the distributorship for India’s Diary product Giant AMUL for its
entire range of products for Chennai city and followed it up with HIMALAYA
SIMPLOT food products.
• In the year 2010 Portia had setup its own Cold Storage facility in the outskirts
of Chennai to store it’s Ice Creams, and also other frozen food products which
it deals.
• In the year 2012, Portia Foods was re-names as Portia Ventures Pvt. Ltd. To
cater to the global market and start getting into export business

S . Venkataramanan – Managing Director
Portia is ably led by S. Venkataramanan, (Venkat) since its incorporation. Venkat is a
first generation entrepreneur, who has led from the front to take Portia to what it is
today. He has significant experience in the food products industry having served
companies like Baskin Robbins, etc. His in-depth knowledge of concerned filed,
years of industrial experience as well as imaginative approach have also make
possible for us in garnering large customers’ support. Venkat is aiming to take the
company to the maximum people to achieve maximum success in the business. He
has got good contacts with large corporate to expand his business and to tap the
business potential available with them.
R.S.Ramachandran,Director- Technology & Operations
Ramachandran (Ram) is a Technocrat who has 3 decades of experience in the
Information technology field, having worked with MNC’s in India and Abroad.
During his IT tenure, he has had opportunity to execute IT projects with FMCG
companies including food and food processing industries. He has a high degree of
passion to become an entrepreneur and desired to associate himself with Portia
Ventures to bring his dreams to a reality. Ram will be supporting Venkat to take the
company to the next level both technologically and operationally and help in
achieving a higher growth rate in shorter span of time, leveraging his high level of
contacts in India and overseas.

GUJARAT CO OPERATIVE MILK MARKETING FEDERATION LIMITED,
The Company has tied up with AMUL as distributor to supply the company’s products in Chennai
for all Modern Format Stores, Super Chain Stores, Hotels, Institutions etc., the company has
established a retail showroom in Ashok Nagar, Chennai and also participate in all events, trade
fairs, exhibitions etc., to increase the retail sales. The company is presently doing a turnover of
Rs.35 lacs per month and plan to increase the volume by Rs. 50 lacs per month in another three
months time.
Where the World Goes for Ice Creams!!
Baskin Robbins has a manufacturing unit at Pune. Ice creams will be supplied through refrigerated
trucks. The size of a scoop would be 70gms and 125ml. We get around 30 scoops in a 4 liter bulk.
The franchisee will purchase ice creams at a specific price and the difference between the purchase
and selling price per cone constitutes gross margin. Catering orders – we specialize on caterings to
marriages, parties, get to- gather and all other functions. We cater to customers with unique
display at a very special rate. All Marwari’s and Guajarati’s prefer only vegetarian products they
prefer to have Baskin Robbins in their menu on all their wedding functions
7. Product Snapshots
Himalaya Simplot International Limited:
Himalaya an Indian Herbal manufacturing company in association with JV Simplot, USA has formed
a joint venture company in Himachal Pradesh for manufacturing of frozen potato products like
French fries, Veg. Burger Patti, etc., with almost 13 SKU in the list. We have signed up with the
Company for storage of their products in our cold storage facility and distribute the same thru our
reefer vehicle to their distributors. The products are in high demand with lot of hotels, and the life
of the products in one year from the date of manufacture.
Portia Ventures Own Range of Food Products
Portia Ventures is also now working on launching food products like Flour varieties, spices, spices
powders, food ready mix in its own brand., in the process of it the company has identified a brand
name and filed for Trade mark registration, and waiting for its approval. Initially the company is
planning to launch these products with a third party manufacturing and only the marketing and
branding will be done by Portia Ventures., based on the market capture with our brand products.
The company will decide on its own manufacturing setup.

• Portia Ventures has successfully ventured into Export Business as
well and it has confirmed enquiries from potential customers

• Portia Ventures has bagged its first Export Order from its
customers in China & Hongkong worth $200,000 (approx) for
supply of Granite slabs from India.
• Confirmed LC’s have been opened by the customer in favour of
Portia Ventures Pvt. Ltd.
• The process of packing and shipping is in progress and expected
to be completed by 15th of January , 2013
10. Cold Storage
• Portia Ventures have built a medium sized COLD STORAGE facility in the
outskirts of Chennai, in Kossapur.
• This facility is currently storing its Ice Creams and Frozen food products , apart
from leasing to few customers who deal in products requiring cold storage
• The facility is an expandable one and Portia plans to built the additional
facility soon to cater to the huge demands for Cold Storage units in Chennai
• Portia sees a great potential and demand raising in the coming days in this
business as FDI takes shape in India
