ABB wins $77-million power order for Delhi
International Airport
Electrical products and systems to supply reliable power for new terminal
Zurich, July 1, 2008 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order
of $77-million for design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical products and
systems for the new Terminal 3 (T3) building at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India.
ABB’s solutions are part of a modernization project to prepare the airport for the Commonwealth
Games in 2010.
ABB will provide electrical infrastructure and control systems for T3, which is currently under
construction. ABB’s intelligent power distribution management system, SCADA, will be used to
monitor and control the terminal’s entire electrical network.
“Airports are exceptionally demanding work environments that require extremely reliable power
supplies,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division. “ABB’s comprehensive
range of energy-efficient electrical products and systems will ensure reliable power distribution and
control of power.”
Scope of the order includes 11-kilovolt (kV) panels, distribution transformer, low-voltage panel,
cabling, wiring, conduits, light fixtures, bus ducts and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), for
dependable backup power if primary power is lost. SCADA provides local and remote control
capability for immediate access to real-time network information, as well as easy connectivity to
other systems in the electrical network.
ABB products and systems meet stringent specifications for delivery, execution, reliability, safety,
and energy efficiency.
Delhi airport’s state-of-the-art terminal T3 will cover an area of 520,000 sq. meters with capacity to
handle 25 million passengers, and is scheduled to be operational by March 2010.
