Beyond Boundaries: Leveraging No-Code Solutions for Industry Innovation
Eat your street
1. What is PUBLIC SPACE?
Public space is often what we consider the sole
responsibility of our government.
Citizens make minimal use of the space and feel no
responsibility for its care.
Local government becomes the service provider and by
and large there is considered little potential for a
PUBLIC ROLE in open space management.
2. but…
What REALLY is PUBLIC SPACE?
• It is a SOCIAL SPACE.
• It is a space in POSITIVE in a city that allows
communities to integrate and converge. (markets,
festivals, theatre, for justice, for conversation, for
religion)
• Besides its obvious functions, this social space is a
symbolic character indispensable to urban life.
• It is the SYMBOL and the PRIDE of a city.
3. The ground reality
• Our public spaces have lost their identity.
• We have lost our sense of ownership of our shared spaces.
• There is no sense of pride to connect us to the space we
occupy.
• We use and abuse without thought.
• We have created boundaries within our communities…
between those who use public spaces and those who do
not.
• We are willing to spend thousands in capitalized spaces to
enjoy a togetherness that was once enjoyed in the common
spaces in our cities.
• We are willingly discarding what is or can be a valuable
socio-economic-cultural asset.
4. How can we re-group?
• Reclaim de-capitalized spaces and connect
with each other for FREE.
• Let’s not expect the STATE to solve our
problems, we are as much a partner in the
success and failure of our establishment.
• Break down barriers, hold hands, and share a
meal together!!!
5. Let’s put food back into
our AGENDA
• Yes! Because we all eat. It is a part of our
everyday. Food relates to just about
everything: agriculture, health, economics,
and community.
• Food is POWER. We have the opportunity to
vote THREE times a day when we choose what
we eat and what we do NOT.
• Make food the centerpiece of our
convergence as a community.
6.
7. The Main Objectives
• To create beautiful, and edible streetscapes.
• To increase civic pride and create a sense of place.
• To provide more greenery and habitat for native
animals and birds.
• Close our consumption loop, & breathe life into an old
way of thinking. (grow.eat.compost.grow)
• Expand urban agriculture as a way to improve food
system resiliency and promote social inclusion.
• And above all a space for your spirit to reconnect you
to your food source!
8. What we NEED to start out
• Sadly the vision of urban farms, however rosy it might
be, requires more than just gathering up some
buddies, grabbing some shovels and heading to a
vacant field down the street.
• We need an infrastructure
• An organizational committee
• Funding
• Rules
• Sponsorship, wherever applicable, in money or in kind.
• Above all else, COMMITTED PEOPLE.

Editor's Notes
The street, the square, the park, the market, the playground are the river of life… Historically, public spaces were central to everyone’s lives. They were how people traveled about town, where they shopped and socialized. Now cars have taken over our streets, making walking or biking dangerous. Towns and cities have spread out. People live in apartments. Shops are moving into malls. Inventions like telephones, television, and computers have transformed our lives… yet it has made people withdraw from each other, from public spaces. Our sidewalks, parks, townhalls and playgrounds stand neglected. Today, we may wonder if public spaces serve any real purpose.
