3. Infinitives
 Infinitive means verb with “To”.
 It generally expresses purpose.
 In any sentence, it may come at three places :
as “Subject” or as “Object” or after “Object”.
 Ex. To form a queue is a good thing.
 This sentence shows some purpose.

4. Infinitives
 In a single sentence, if any verb is following
another verb, it should not be used as Noun & / or
Adjective but it should be used as a Purpose.
 Any verb with “to” prefix, which follows another
verb is an “Infinitive”.
 Any verb used after conjunctions like “and”, “but”
etc is not an Infinitive.
 Infinitives should never replace Present Participle.

5. Infinitive as Subject
 As “Subject”, infinitive comes before Verb or
Noun.
 Ex. To form a queue is a good thing.
 Here, “To form” is followed by “a queue” which
is a Noun.

6. Infinitive as “Object”
 When Infinitive is used as an Object, it comes
after Verb.
 Ex. She likes to eat apples.
 Here, infinitive “to eat” has come after the verb
“likes”.

7. Infinitive after / before an Object
 Infinitive can come “after / before an Object”.
 Ex. I want him to do this work.
 Here, “to do” infinitive has come before “this
work” which is an Object.

8. Going to
 “Going to” is used to show the intention of future
actions.
 It is not used to show the movement as “to go”.
 “going to” is followed by only original form of verb.
 With “going to”, related form of verb is used.
 Ex. Darshan is going to finish the work tomorrow.
 I was going to buy a T.V. set, but could not.

9. To be to
 “to be to” is used to denote the intention of the
action in future or it denotes the intention of
doing that action in past.
 With “to be to”, related form of verb is used.
 After “to be” original form of verb is used.
 Sentence sequence with “To be” means ….
Subject + (am, is, are / was, were) + to +
original form of verb + Object
 Ex. He is to play cricket tomorrow.
 He was to attend the party yesterday, but could
not.

10. Have to
 “Have to” denotes Duty which is must to do
whether you wish or not.
 In present tense, “has to / have to” and in past
tense “had to” is used.
 Here, after “to” follows the original form of verb.
 Ex. She has to do her home work regularly as
she is a clever student.
