2. In the first part of the opening scene we see the main character climbing a
hill. It immediately shows us who the main character is and that she is
athletic. Its useful to present this through camera angles because it can
establish something without someone on camera simply exclaiming it.
3. After the agent calls her name, and we find out the identity of the
heroine. He then turns towards the camera and the audience see that he
has an FBI hat on. This tells us they both work for the FBI. This is useful
again because we can see more about the characters without someone
exclaiming it in an obvious and uninteresting way.
4. In this scene we see the main character climb into an elevator with all
men. Its stereotypical and shows us that she is a good agent and one of
the few females in FBI. This doesn't need to be said but its another useful
technique to tell us more about the character in this opening scene. Its is
good to note that there was an establishing shot previously of the FBI
building to show us where she was.
5. This close up of a sign is there obviously and cleverly showing us that she
is going to the behavioural science services. This is where she works and
tells us where the next scene will be. Its useful to use because no one
needs to say it and its much more clearer.
6. Finally through the camera pan we can see what the heroine is looking at.
And we see she is looking at a newspaper. This is cleverly subtle but shows
us perhaps what the case it about. Why else would they show us. So with
this pan we now know what the case is about. Still leaving mystery for the
rest of the film.
