QEMS Activity Week
     2009


 A rewarding end to a successful year!
Overview of the week
   • Activities Week is the last week of term -
        Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July.
   • You are in school for 3 and a half days
   • You are on a trip for one day (if you have
     returned your consent form and payment.)
   • Timings for the week are different:
     – Monday to Thursday school starts at 9.00 am and
       will finish at 3.00 pm (except where timings are
       different for trips). You will be registered at your
       activity or trip.
     – There is no morning break and lunch is from
       11.30-12.30.
     – Friday is normal start from 8.45 but you will be
       dismissed from tutor groups at 12.00.
   • It is non-uniform all week

  • In school activities….
Maths & History
    • Activity details:
      Join us for ‘QEMS Grand Design!’ A creative
      team task.
    • Venue:
      Hall
    • Do I need to bring anything?
      A cardboard box such as cereal box
    • For further information contact:
      Mrs Coates or Mr Cooper
DT & Art
   • Activity details:
     T-shirt design, Texture prints, Jewellery &
     baking
   • Venue:
     Art & DT rooms
   • Do I need to bring anything?
     A clean, plain T-shirt (any colour) if you in Miss
     Owen’s or Miss Hayward’s Art group (list is in
     pupil bulletin)
   • For further information contact:
     Mrs Morgan or Miss Owen
English & ICT
   • Activity details:
     Working in small groups you will produce a short movie
     ready for the School Awards for Film in Teaching
     Across Staffordshire – a competition to promote the
     use of digital video as a teaching and learning tool in
     schools.
   • Venues:
     ICT rooms and some English classrooms
   • Do I need to bring anything?
     You may choose to bring in your own props for the
     short clip your group decides upon. Your teachers will
     have your storyboards to prevent them being lost.
   • For further information contact:
     The English or ICT departments- chat to your subject
     teachers for more info
Science

   • Activity details:
     ‘What a Dunker’ activity, followed this years
     annual Science Quiz
   • Venue:
     Your Science Room for the first half of the
     session followed by the hall
   • Do I need to bring anything?
     Your BRAIN! And a pen
   • For further information contact:
     Mr Rawal or Mr Harding
MFL, RE & GEOGRAPHY

   • Activity details:
     ‘Qemsopoly Challenge’
   • Venue:
     Please meet on the Year 7 yard- groups will
     then be directed to different rooms by staff
   • Do I need to bring anything?
     Pen
   • For further information contact:
     Any teacher in MFL or RE Departments
Enterprise – Year 9 only

    • Activity details:
      ‘Business dynamics’. Run by experienced
      business people, this whole day team event
      will leave you motivated and inspired!
    • Venue:
      Performance Area (Music block)
    • Do I need to bring anything?
      A positive attitude!
    • For further information contact:
      Mrs Coates or Miss Watkins
PE

     • Activity details:
       Wacky Olympics, House Rounders and Tug of
       War
     • Venue:
       School Field
     • Do I need to bring anything?:
       Appropriate sports clothes and trainers,
       sunblock, water.
     • For further information contact:
       Any member of the PE department – young or
       old.
QEMS Activity Week




   • Out of school activities….
YEAR 9 AND 10 ALTON TOWERS TRIP
        THURSDAY 16 JULY
  You will need to have returned your signed reply slip
  • Meet at 8.15 am on the Year 7 yard
  • Coaches will be leaving Alton Towers at 4.30
    pm and are aiming to return to QEMS by 6.00
    pm
  • You will need to have returned your reply slip
    signed by parents
  • Please bring the following on the day:
        - A packed lunch or money to buy lunch
        - Appropriate clothing and footwear for all
          weathers
YEAR 9 AND 10 - INDOOR CLIMBING -
        THURSDAY 16 JULY

 You will need to have returned your signed reply slip
 • Meet at the canteen at 9.30 am
 • Will return between 2.30 pm and 3.00 pm –
   upon return you will be allowed to go home
 • You will need to bring the following:
       - A packed lunch
       - Loose clothing to wear
       - A small amount of money to if you wish to
         purchase snacks from the small café/shop
YEAR 9 AND 10 CYCLING
      THURSDAY 16 JULY

You will need to have returned your signed reply slip
• Meet at the canteen at 8.15 am. You will return
  to QEMS by 3.30 pm
• Pupils will need to bring the following:
      - A packed lunch
      - You may bring a small amount of money
        for an ice-cream/snack/drink
      - Suitable footwear and clothing for cycling
Y8 SNOWDOME TRIP – TUESDAY 14 JULY

   You will need to have returned your signed reply slip
   • Meet at the Snowdome reception at 9.30 am. You will
     be dismissed from the Snowdome at 3.30 pm.
   • You will need to bring the following:
         - Flat sensible shoes for tobogganing
         - Warm clothing for tobogganing
         - Gloves and thick socks for ice skating
         - Swimming costume and a towel
         - A packed lunch
         - If you wish to use a locker for their bags you will
           need a 20p which is non-refundable
         - A small amount of money if they wish to buy
           snacks from the food outlets and vending
           machines

You will need to have returned your signed reply slip
• Meet at the Snowdome reception at 9.30 am. You will

Qems Activity Week 2009

  • 1. QEMS Activity Week 2009 A rewarding end to a successful year!
  • 2. Overview of the week • Activities Week is the last week of term - Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July. • You are in school for 3 and a half days • You are on a trip for one day (if you have returned your consent form and payment.) • Timings for the week are different: – Monday to Thursday school starts at 9.00 am and will finish at 3.00 pm (except where timings are different for trips). You will be registered at your activity or trip. – There is no morning break and lunch is from 11.30-12.30. – Friday is normal start from 8.45 but you will be dismissed from tutor groups at 12.00. • It is non-uniform all week
  • 3. QEMS Activity Week • In school activities….
  • 4. Maths & History • Activity details: Join us for ‘QEMS Grand Design!’ A creative team task. • Venue: Hall • Do I need to bring anything? A cardboard box such as cereal box • For further information contact: Mrs Coates or Mr Cooper
  • 5. DT & Art • Activity details: T-shirt design, Texture prints, Jewellery & baking • Venue: Art & DT rooms • Do I need to bring anything? A clean, plain T-shirt (any colour) if you in Miss Owen’s or Miss Hayward’s Art group (list is in pupil bulletin) • For further information contact: Mrs Morgan or Miss Owen
  • 6. English & ICT • Activity details: Working in small groups you will produce a short movie ready for the School Awards for Film in Teaching Across Staffordshire – a competition to promote the use of digital video as a teaching and learning tool in schools. • Venues: ICT rooms and some English classrooms • Do I need to bring anything? You may choose to bring in your own props for the short clip your group decides upon. Your teachers will have your storyboards to prevent them being lost. • For further information contact: The English or ICT departments- chat to your subject teachers for more info
  • 7. Science • Activity details: ‘What a Dunker’ activity, followed this years annual Science Quiz • Venue: Your Science Room for the first half of the session followed by the hall • Do I need to bring anything? Your BRAIN! And a pen • For further information contact: Mr Rawal or Mr Harding
  • 8. MFL, RE & GEOGRAPHY • Activity details: ‘Qemsopoly Challenge’ • Venue: Please meet on the Year 7 yard- groups will then be directed to different rooms by staff • Do I need to bring anything? Pen • For further information contact: Any teacher in MFL or RE Departments
  • 9. Enterprise – Year 9 only • Activity details: ‘Business dynamics’. Run by experienced business people, this whole day team event will leave you motivated and inspired! • Venue: Performance Area (Music block) • Do I need to bring anything? A positive attitude! • For further information contact: Mrs Coates or Miss Watkins
  • 10. PE • Activity details: Wacky Olympics, House Rounders and Tug of War • Venue: School Field • Do I need to bring anything?: Appropriate sports clothes and trainers, sunblock, water. • For further information contact: Any member of the PE department – young or old.
  • 11. QEMS Activity Week • Out of school activities….
  • 12. YEAR 9 AND 10 ALTON TOWERS TRIP THURSDAY 16 JULY You will need to have returned your signed reply slip • Meet at 8.15 am on the Year 7 yard • Coaches will be leaving Alton Towers at 4.30 pm and are aiming to return to QEMS by 6.00 pm • You will need to have returned your reply slip signed by parents • Please bring the following on the day: - A packed lunch or money to buy lunch - Appropriate clothing and footwear for all weathers
  • 13. YEAR 9 AND 10 - INDOOR CLIMBING - THURSDAY 16 JULY You will need to have returned your signed reply slip • Meet at the canteen at 9.30 am • Will return between 2.30 pm and 3.00 pm – upon return you will be allowed to go home • You will need to bring the following: - A packed lunch - Loose clothing to wear - A small amount of money to if you wish to purchase snacks from the small café/shop
  • 14. YEAR 9 AND 10 CYCLING THURSDAY 16 JULY You will need to have returned your signed reply slip • Meet at the canteen at 8.15 am. You will return to QEMS by 3.30 pm • Pupils will need to bring the following: - A packed lunch - You may bring a small amount of money for an ice-cream/snack/drink - Suitable footwear and clothing for cycling
  • 15. Y8 SNOWDOME TRIP – TUESDAY 14 JULY You will need to have returned your signed reply slip • Meet at the Snowdome reception at 9.30 am. You will be dismissed from the Snowdome at 3.30 pm. • You will need to bring the following: - Flat sensible shoes for tobogganing - Warm clothing for tobogganing - Gloves and thick socks for ice skating - Swimming costume and a towel - A packed lunch - If you wish to use a locker for their bags you will need a 20p which is non-refundable - A small amount of money if they wish to buy snacks from the food outlets and vending machines
  • 16. Y7 SNOWDOME TRIP – WEDNESDAY 15 JULY You will need to have returned your signed reply slip • Meet at the Snowdome reception at 9.30 am. You will be dismissed from the Snowdome at 3.30 pm. • You will need to bring the following: - Flat sensible shoes for tobogganing - Warm clothing for tobogganing - Gloves and thick socks for ice skating - Swimming costume and a towel - A packed lunch - If you wish to use a locker for their bags you will need a 20p which is non-refundable - A small amount of money if they wish to buy snacks from the food outlets and vending machines
