France Essay
France is a beautiful and captivating country full of art, culture, and an important historical
background. It is in the heart of Europe and is sometimes called "The Hexagon",
Because of it's shape. It is the largest country in Western Europe and covers about 211,200 square
miles. Four different waters surround the French coastline, this includes; the North Sea, the English
Channel, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The capital of France is Paris, on the banks of the Seine River. Sometimes called the "The
City of Lights", Paris has been admired and loved by millions for centuries. It is an industrial
center as well. Paris is world renowned as a cultural and intellectual...show more content...
The Prime Minister, President and other ministers have to put the laws into effect. The President
himself can decide laws, hold referenda, and negotiate with other nations.
The Parliament is made up of two chambers, The National Assembly, and the Senate, which
together have legislative power. The National Assembly is elected every five years by national
election, and can be dissolved by the President. The Senate is elected for nine years but all members
do not stand for election at the same time. Senators are elected by deputies and local councilors.
Until the 18th Century, the main crop in France was wheat. This was because people mainly ate
bread, and very little meat, if any, was eaten.
Grass for cattle to eat was in short supply and as a result, cattle were rare. The few animals that
peasants did own were used to pull farm equipment and to fertilize the soil. The animals were not
killed for meat. Sheep were popular because they didn't eat much and because they produced wool.
At the beginning of the 20th Century, France was still very much an agricultural nation with 40% of
it's population working the land. Today, only 3% are farmers. However, farmland still covers more
than 57% of the country .
The French people are convinced that their wine is the best in the world. The

Essay about Germany
Germany is the fourth largest country in area in
Europe, with a total area of 356,970 square
kilometers (137,827 square miles). The country has
a varied terrain that ranges from low–lying coastal
flats along the North and Baltic seas, to a central
area of rolling hills and river valleys, to heavily
forested mountains and snow–covered Alps in the
south. Germany has a long, complex history and rich
culture, but it did not become a unified nation until
1871. Before that time, Germany had been a
confederacy (1815–1867).
The country has a total of 82,071,765 people (1997
estimate). Germany is overwhelmingly urban, and
most people lead a prosperous, comfortable lifestyle,
with adequate leisure time and comprehensive

Stretching from the Baltic and North seas to the Alps,
Germany measures about 800 kilometers (about 500
miles) from north to south; the country extends about
600 km (about 400 miles) from west to east. In
addition to coastline and mountains, the varied
terrain includes forests, hills, plains, and river valleys.
Several navigable rivers traverse the uplands, and
canals connect the river systems of the Elbe, Rhine,
and Danube rivers and link the North Sea with the
Baltic.
Germany has a mostly moderate climate,
characterized by cool winters and warm summers.
River valleys, such the Rhine, tend to be humid and
somewhat warmer in both winter and summer,
whereas mountain areas can be much colder.
Precipitation on the average is much heavier in the
south, especially along the Alpine slopes, which force
incoming weather fronts to rise and let off moisture in
the form of rain and snow.
Germany does not have large pockets of poverty or
great economic disparity. Crime levels are
substantially lower than those in the United States,
and the possession of guns is controlled. However,
there are substantial numbers of homeless people
and problems of violence, alcoholism, and drug
abuse. Nonviolent crimes, such as theft and burglary
in urban areas, have increased since the 1970s.
They occur often enough to make law and order a

Essay on Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia
GeographyThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, occupying most of the Arabian Peninsula, is located in the
southwestern corner of Asia. It covers an area about one–fourth the size of the United States. More
than half of its total area is desert terrain. The capital of Saudi is Riyadh, which is located in the
central region of the country.
Language Saudi Arabia's official language is Arabic, although English is also spoken in the Kingdom,
most commonly in the business community.
Religion The official religion of Saudi is Islam. Two of the holiest Islamic cities, Makkah and
Madinah, are located within its borders. Makkah is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, and is
the focal point of the Islamic...show more content...
The government is made up of the King, the Crown Prince, and, similar to the U.S. cabinet, the
King's Council of Ministers. The Kingdom is divided into thirteen regions. Each is headed by an
Emir (governor) who is appointed by the King. Emirs generally handle local affairs.
Economy the Modern kingdom of Saudi Arabia was founded on September 23, 1932 by King Abdul
Aziz Al–Saud. Shortly thereafter, oil was discovered and to this day, remains the basis of its
economic development. Saudi Arabia accounts for more than a quarter of the world's total oil
revenues. Saudi's largest non–petroleum sector is agriculture. It provides around ten percent of the
country's revenue. Crops consist of wheat, rice, corn, and dates. Gains are also being made in
poultry, dairy and livestock (sheep and camels).
My Perspective Having had the opportunity to visit this exotic location, I feel qualified that I can
provide a unique perspective on its comparison to the United States. On first arrival, the cultural
shock is immense. The Muslim religion is extremely enforced. There are actually "religious police"
that make sure the Islamic law is being upheld. Women must walk three feet behind men and
remained completely covered from wrist to ankle. There is no alcohol or any material deemed
pornographic allowed in the country. During the Olympics, the women's gymnastics events were not
televised in certain regions because it was thought to be pornographic in

South Africa Essay
South Africa is a nation with a wonderful and varied culture. This country has been called "The
Rainbow Nation", a name that reflects the diversity of such amazing place. The different ethnic and
cultural groups of the South Africa do, however, appreciate their own beliefs and customs. Many of
these traditions, besides African culture, are influenced by European and Western heritage. The
complex and diverse population of the country has made a strong impact to the various cultures.
There are forty–five million people; about thirty million are black, five million white, three million
coloured and one million Indians. The black population has a large number of rural people living in
poverty. It is among these inhabitants that cultural...show more content...
Many black musicians who sang in Afrikaans and English during the apartheid period began to
sing in traditional African dialects developing a singular style called Kwaito. This is a music
genre that became the favorite way of representing social and economic issues. I believe that in
certain way, Kwaito is a political power that shows activism in its apolitical actions. In the other
hand white and coloured South African singers were strongly influenced by European music.
African Indigenous Churches were the largest of the Christian groups during the apartheid period.
It is argued that many of the people who claimed no relation with any religion were part of
indigenous religions. This is a religion that combines Christian and indigenous influences. Many
South African Muslims are described as Coloureds, especially those whose ancestors were slaves.
Others are described as Indians including those whose ancestors came as traders from South Asia.
Religion plays such an important fact in South Africa giving an special taste to the culture.
The culture during the apartheid time is still powerful in much of South Africa countryside. For
example, across the many ethnic groups, marriage traditions are different, but all the beliefs are
based in a masculine deity, ancestral spirits and supernatural forces. Usually, plural marriages are
permitted and a lobolo (dowry) is usually paid. Cattles play an important part in many of

What Is The Australian Landscape
A poem is a way to escape, a way to feel something you've never felt, see something you've never
seen, and go somewhere you've never gone. Poets have always used their language, tone, and
devices to transport their reader to see a new and different perspective on key aspects of society.
One distinct example of this, is the depiction of the Australian landscape which is expressed from
varying perspectives in different poems, including John Tranter's Backyard, Jill Jones's
Transformations in a City Block, and Dorothea Mackellar's My Country. Tranter has expressed the
suburban scenery, with which a majority of Australians are familiar with, as well as a realistic life
and the idea of living simply. Jones, as well as Tranter, shows the real environment in which most
Australians live, the city, contrary to the belief of many. On the other hand, My Country illustrates
the ideal and well known Australian landscape of the bush and natural environment, which is not a
completely accurate representation of Australians and how we live. Nevertheless these poems work
together to form a cohesive anthology concerning the different perspectives of Australia and its'
scenery, revealing the duality of this countries landscape and a contrast between the ideal and real
environment in which Australians live.
The poem Backyard conveys the notion of the simple yet chaotic life that is found when living in the
landscape of suburban Australia. This blank verse poem of seven stanzas has slight rhythm, no
rhyme and has utilised enjambment throughout. These aspects contribute to the sense of reality and
chaos created as the poem sound closer to normal speech, as though you're just have a conversation
with the narrator. The poem follows the events that occur and environment of a family's backyard,
discussing the various aspects with which most Australian's would be able to relate with to some
degree and overall telling the reader to live life simply. Moreover, the use of the rhetorical question
'Is that a fifties home movie, or the real thing?' makes the audience think about what the true
Australian landscape really is. People outside of Australia don't tend to associate this country with
the suburbs but this statement makes them

My Country Poem
"My country" is an iconic poem about Australia written by a 19–year–old Dorothea Mackellar.
Dorothea uses Imagery, personification, juxtaposition, and alliteration, these poetic devices allow
Dorothea to depict the beauty and terror of Australia and show how they are both beautiful in their
own way.
Isobel Marion Dorothea Mackellar is a third generation Australian. She was brought up in a
wealthy family and enjoyed her life. Due to her family's wealth, she had the luxury to travel
overseas to countries such as England, Europe and America. Dorothea spoke fluently in many
languages due to the exposure of different cultures. The Mackellar family owned many properties
it is said that Sir Charles (her father) purchased 6000 acres in total of properties in 1905. These
were factors that led her to write 'MY COUNTRY'. This poem was written when she was only 19
years old and it was at the time when Dorothea was feeling homesick. Another reason Dorothea had
said she wrote the poem was that when she was visiting England one of her friends was saying all
the things England had compared to Australia so she started saying all the colours, landscapes
Australia had in comparison to England. This showed her patriotism towards her country, Australia.
She wrote this poem many times as she was never quite content with the verses. She gained
inspiration in the Mackellar family's properties which were in the country side. Now My Country
has become Australia's most quoted and loved poem. Dorothea position the reader to appreciate that
the beauty of the sunburnt country, Australia by sharing her deep passion for this country. This
poem embodies special Australian landscapes it is achieved by the use of poetic devices.
The poem allows us to illustrate vivid imagery through detailed, descriptive language. Descriptions
such as 'sapphire misted mountains' allow us to see an image of the landscape.
Juxtaposition is used throughout the poem to compare England's landscape and Australia's
landscape. The opening stanza describes England's soft landscape which is portrayed as 'grey–blue
distance, brown streams and soft, dim skies '. This is not the country that Mackellar's heart yearns
for instead it is the rough Australian landscape
