Essay on My Family History
My Family History
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have
a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you
to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the
average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see
that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A
persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer
to self–discovery.
There are two sides to a person's family and one side of my family has...show more content...
One of these is that on Thanksgiving everybody comes together to my parents' house in New Jersey
for a huge feast. On Christmas only my mother and the children (me and my brother) travel to Illinois
to spend a week with my grandparents. On New Years Eve we all get together at my parents'
house in New Jersey and toast to the New Year with champagne and apple cider. During Labor
Day weekend all of my family travels to South Jersey to my grandfathers' condo. We usually
spend all of our time on the beach and barbequing, except on Sunday when we go to church. After
all, my grandfather is a minister. One of our biggest family traditions is going back to Puerto
Rico. Every year my mother and I travel back to Puerto Rico for a portion of our summer
vacation. Now that I am older I travel there more often and stay there much longer. My father never
joins because he doesn't like my mothers side of the father too much and he thinks that we when we
speak Spanish we are all plotting against him. Of course that's not true though. My bother doesn't
speak Spanish so he doesn't like to go either. I guess that tradition is one that belongs solely to my
mother and I.
The role of the people in family basically stayed the same for most of the generations with a little
change in the later generations. Earlier the males were the only ones that worked in the family and
the wife stayed at home and took care of the house and

What is History? Essay
What is History?
The definition of history, is a question which has sparked international debate for centuries between
the writers, readers, and the makers of history. In the words of acclaimed historian Edward Gibbon,
"History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies and misfortunes of mankind." A
more romantic view on the subject was taken by Cicero. He said, "History is the witness that testifies
the passing of time. It illuminates reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance of daily life and
brings us tidings of antiquity" History, described in the simplest of terms, can be seen as a record of
events that have occurred in the past that the historian has taken the trouble to document. It is the

There is of course the argument, that even primary source evidence can be somewhat tainted.
Propaganda by rulers and governments has been used a major tool to promote popularity amongst
their people. For example, in Russia at the turn of the century writers who wrote critically about the
internal affairs of government were censured, persecuted and sometimes imprisoned or executed. In
1537 to 1574, The massive censorship exercised by Cosimo I de' Medici of Florence precipitated a
decline in historiography in Florence. The extreme wealth and power of the Medici family
extended even further into the art of the Renaissance period and their depiction was prevalent as
saintly figures in the works of these artists. Fear of persecution could drive an otherwise
intelligent scholar to be biased and one sided. Even today bias and prejudice is apparent in the
accounting of daily events in newspapers and television. The events revealed to the public are
those which the editor or director chooses to be relevant. The Daily Telegraph for example, is
widely perceived as being supportive of the Tories. In the world of films we never read 'this is a
true story' in the credits but that it is 'based on a true story'. The director, has used artistic licence to

The History of Art Essay
The History of Art
Art was the first written language and to study the history of art is to study the history of
civilizations and humankind. The Paleolithic cave paintings in France, when viewed in the modern
western perspective can only be speculated at as to the intent and/or purpose of the original artisans.
Perhaps the paintings of animals were the focal point of a religious ceremony or ritual, surveyed
before the hunt, to bring success or perhaps part of a celebration or documentation after the
successful hunt. It appears that art from the earliest history into the Renaissance focuses around
religious ceremonies of some type.
Plato believed art to be a form of communication on a metaphysical level. The modern western view

Without the scientific knowledge of later generations, it is assumed that these figures were
representations to invoke fertility.
Mesopotamia art was centered in what are now Iran and Iraq. The developing cultures (Assyrians,
Sumerians, Babylonians, etc) in the area, between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, which is
sometimes called the "Cradle of Civilization" or the "Fertile Crescent", are credited with the
invention of cuneiform writing which is shown to us in the Stele (law code) of Hamarabi. Within
these cultures, rulers often conferred with the religious leaders and religion was an important part of
their society.
The unique character of Sumerian art is exemplified by a group of votive statues from the Abu
Temple, at Tell Asmar. The identities of these statues are unclear. However, it is an educated theory
that they served Abu, God of vegetation, and they represent priests, and worshipers. There is no
indication that these figures were intended to represent a naturalistic scheme. It is important to note
that the symbolization is that of the human form and representative of some form of authoritarian
hierarchy. Tracking the human form and its relationship to art, history, and culture as the human
figure evolves through the centuries as artists perfect their

Essay about Germany
Germany is the fourth largest country in area in
Europe, with a total area of 356,970 square
kilometers (137,827 square miles). The country has
a varied terrain that ranges from low–lying coastal
flats along the North and Baltic seas, to a central
area of rolling hills and river valleys, to heavily
forested mountains and snow–covered Alps in the
south. Germany has a long, complex history and rich
culture, but it did not become a unified nation until
1871. Before that time, Germany had been a
confederacy (1815–1867).
The country has a total of 82,071,765 people (1997
estimate). Germany is overwhelmingly urban, and
most people lead a prosperous, comfortable lifestyle,
with adequate leisure time and comprehensive

Stretching from the Baltic and North seas to the Alps,
Germany measures about 800 kilometers (about 500
miles) from north to south; the country extends about
600 km (about 400 miles) from west to east. In
addition to coastline and mountains, the varied
terrain includes forests, hills, plains, and river valleys.
Several navigable rivers traverse the uplands, and
canals connect the river systems of the Elbe, Rhine,
and Danube rivers and link the North Sea with the
Baltic.
Germany has a mostly moderate climate,
characterized by cool winters and warm summers.
River valleys, such the Rhine, tend to be humid and
somewhat warmer in both winter and summer,
whereas mountain areas can be much colder.
Precipitation on the average is much heavier in the
south, especially along the Alpine slopes, which force
incoming weather fronts to rise and let off moisture in
the form of rain and snow.
Germany does not have large pockets of poverty or
great economic disparity. Crime levels are
substantially lower than those in the United States,
and the possession of guns is controlled. However,
there are substantial numbers of homeless people
and problems of violence, alcoholism, and drug
abuse. Nonviolent crimes, such as theft and burglary
in urban areas, have increased since the 1970s.
They occur often enough to make law and order a

Essay on My Family's Ancestry
Gathering research about my family and its history turned out to be an interesting and insightful
opportunity, through which I learned much more than I expected. When I started this project, I
knew that I would not be able to find as much useful information on the Internet as some of my
peers. In effect, I realized that I would have to rely on other primary resources such as my parents
and grandparents to reveal the story of my ancestry to me. After I had interviewed them, my family
history became much clearer to me. More than 2 millennia ago, around the 3rd century BC, a group
of Tamil–speaking people from present–day South India migrated to the nearby island of Sri Lanka.
Among these people, known today as "Sri Lankan Tamils", are my...show more content...
The Peninsula has a hot, monsoonal tropical climate characterized by a dry season from February
to October and a wet season from October to January. Because of the monsoons, the region is
humid and averages three feet of rain each year, which is relatively low compared to the rest of the
island. The climate of the region allows for many crops to be grown including many varieties of
fruits and vegetables.
While interviewing my parents and grandparents, I learned about many customs and aspects of
the Sri Lankan Tamil culture. Sri Lankan Tamils are devotees of the Shaiva sect of Hinduism,
mainly worshipping the lord Shiva. The three main cultural festivals celebrated in the area are
Thai Pongal (beginning of the harvest), Chittrai Pongal (Tamil New Year), and Deepavali (Hindu
Festival of Lights). In addition, pujas (religious rituals) are performed for different occasions, such
as the death day of an ancestor or the celebration of a certain Hindu deity. It was also a custom to
ask the village astrologer for advice on certain decisions, such as the name of a newborn child.
Paternal Great–Grandparents In the early 1900's, Kadirasaipillai and Vairavipillai Kandappar, my
paternal grandmother's parents, were born in the village of Puloly, Northern Province, Sri Lanka.
They were both born into families of the Vellalar caste of Tamil society and went to school at Puttalai
Vidhyalayam, the only schooling option

Humanistic Psychology Essay examples
In general, human nature consists of three main parts: the mind (intellect), the body (biological
makeup) and the spirit (emotional makeup). As the mind and the body are being well explored in
behaviorism and psychoanalysis, the spirit of a person has been increasingly popular from the
mid–20th century. In the early 1960s, a movement named third–force psychology started as a
reaction to the defect of behaviorism and psychoanalysis to deal fully with the human condition
(Hergenhahn, 2008). This third–force movement is humanistic psychology, which refers to the
combination of the philosophy of romanticism and existentialism. Humanistic psychology instead
paid more attention to each individual's potentials and highlighted the importance...show more

The major difference between existential and humanistic psychology is that the former views human
nature as neutral whereas the latter views it as basically good (Hergenhahn, 2008). There is no right
to determine which one is correct. I prefer believing that people at birth are naturally kind–hearted.
No one is born for being evil, and I think the reason why a man will become evil is their experiences
in nurturing. This reminds me of the Three Character Classic that is one of the Chinese classic texts.
The first four verses tell us the core of Confucianism: human nature is inherently good, which is
similar to the humanistic psychology in the Western country. This idea was written in the 13th
century and has come down to us. Although there are many other opposite statements of human
nature, I believe that thinking positively is better, especially for health.
When it comes back to existential psychology, the first person I want to talk about is Rollo May, an
American existential psychologist. May (1967) and other existentialists emphasized the importance
of freedom and life meaning. The dual aspect of human nature is that people exist physically in the
sense and they also make the experiences meaningful by interpreting, valuing, and making decisions.
In my opinion, people have the basic rights to make their own decisions. Because of the participation
of humans, the tasks needed to be done become significant.

After I had interviewed them, my family history became much clearer to me. More than 2 millennia ago, around the 3rd century BC, a group of Tamil–speaking people from present–day South India migrated to the nearby island of Sri Lanka. Among these people, known today as "Sri Lankan Tamils", are my...show more content... The Peninsula has a hot, monsoonal tropical climate characterized by a dry season from February to October and a wet season from October to January. Because of the monsoons, the region is humid and averages three feet of rain each year, which is relatively low compared to the rest of the island. The climate of the region allows for many crops to be grown including many varieties of fruits and vegetables. While interviewing my parents and grandparents, I learned about many customs and aspects of the Sri Lankan Tamil culture. Sri Lankan Tamils are devotees of the Shaiva sect of Hinduism, mainly worshipping the lord Shiva. The three main cultural festivals celebrated in the area are Thai Pongal (beginning of the harvest), Chittrai Pongal (Tamil New Year), and Deepavali (Hindu Festival of Lights). In addition, pujas (religious rituals) are performed for different occasions, such as the death day of an ancestor or the celebration of a certain Hindu deity. It was also a custom to ask the village astrologer for advice on certain decisions, such as the name of a newborn child. Paternal Great–Grandparents In the early 1900's, Kadirasaipillai and Vairavipillai Kandappar, my paternal grandmother's parents, were born in the village of Puloly, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. They were both born into families of the Vellalar caste of Tamil society and went to school at Puttalai Vidhyalayam, the only schooling option Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Humanistic Psychology Essay examples In general, human nature consists of three main parts: the mind (intellect), the body (biological makeup) and the spirit (emotional makeup). As the mind and the body are being well explored in behaviorism and psychoanalysis, the spirit of a person has been increasingly popular from the mid–20th century. In the early 1960s, a movement named third–force psychology started as a reaction to the defect of behaviorism and psychoanalysis to deal fully with the human condition (Hergenhahn, 2008). This third–force movement is humanistic psychology, which refers to the combination of the philosophy of romanticism and existentialism. Humanistic psychology instead paid more attention to each individual's potentials and highlighted the importance...show more content... The major difference between existential and humanistic psychology is that the former views human nature as neutral whereas the latter views it as basically good (Hergenhahn, 2008). There is no right to determine which one is correct. I prefer believing that people at birth are naturally kind–hearted. No one is born for being evil, and I think the reason why a man will become evil is their experiences in nurturing. This reminds me of the Three Character Classic that is one of the Chinese classic texts. The first four verses tell us the core of Confucianism: human nature is inherently good, which is similar to the humanistic psychology in the Western country. This idea was written in the 13th century and has come down to us. Although there are many other opposite statements of human nature, I believe that thinking positively is better, especially for health. When it comes back to existential psychology, the first person I want to talk about is Rollo May, an American existential psychologist. May (1967) and other existentialists emphasized the importance of freedom and life meaning. The dual aspect of human nature is that people exist physically in the sense and they also make the experiences meaningful by interpreting, valuing, and making decisions. In my opinion, people have the basic rights to make their own decisions. Because of the participation of humans, the tasks needed to be done become significant. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
