2. The music video for Videophone has
more than one intertextual reference.
Firstly, the beginning of the video is
inspired by the film Reservoir Dogs as
they have tried to recreate the most
famous scene of the film.
Furthermore, one of Beyonce’s
characters she plays in the music video
is a representation of Bettie Page, an
American model. She was a well known
pin-up girl and appealed to a wide
audience. This is a good use of
intertexuality as the producer has used
outside resources to add to the hype of
the video.
3. The lyrics to the chorus “watch me on my video
phone”. The camera zooms when these lyrics are
sung showing how they relate. This engages the
audience and identifies who the star in the video is.
Beyonce also places her hands on her chest, helping
to show her sex appeal and magnifies her as an
artist in the pop world.
“Do you want me?”“Press record and let me film
you on my videophone”
“Do you like my bag and
the colour of my nails”
4. This is when the artist is shown in a sexual manner to add to their sex
appeal.
