2. Hip Hop Genre
There are many conventions in the Hip Hop genre,
however the main ones that are seen repeatedly are:
• Showing off their money
• Showing that they are in groups and dancing, showing
they are enjoying the song.
• Showing off their accessories and expensive items.
• Tends to have lots of girls that are seductive.
• Girls are wearing very revealing clothes and are seen
falling for the main artist.

4. Women
One of the main conventions I talked about was having women who were
very seductive in hip hop videos. They typically are around the main artist
and usually there is more than one around the artist.
This is exactly the case in this song as we see him surrounded by women who
are wearing revealing clothing. The fact that he has lots of girls around him,
insinuates that he does gets lots of girls and therefore seems cooler.
They make the artist seem cool with their sex appeal and revealing clothing,
seeming indicating that he has already got them.
5. Money and expensive items
Another big convention in hip hop videos, is showing off their money or
expensive items.
This is also shown within this video. Throughout the whole video you will see
something which DDG (the artist) is trying to show off. Wether its close up shots
of his money, or the close up shot of his expensive watch and robe, or even an
establishing shot of the boat to show that he owns this boat.
This video is just trying to show how much money he has, and he is showing off.
This is a big convention within the hip hop music genre, as the main artist feels
the need to show off their money or women in order to look better than other
people.

7. Groups and dancing
Another big convention in Hip Hop music videos, is the fact that they are always in
big groups.
I believe this shows that they know a lot of people and in turn are seen as cool.
This is another form of showing off.
In addition to that, we can see them dancing throughout the whole song, this is
also a very key convention that happens very often, as they want their audience to
feel “hyped” or feel the need to dance a long with the song.
Overall both the groups and dancing make it seem like they are really enjoying
the song, and will encourage their audience to do the same as well.
