1. Reflective thinking
Primary’s Final Assessment
Barth María Pía
Introduction
I started planning my Primary practicum schedule by the end of March. I decided to
continue my practicum period in another school that I’m working in. I did my first period in
a different institution that I’m working in too. The school that I chose this time is called
Jean Piaget, and it’s also located in San Carlos de Bariloche. As soon as I started the
subject I gave the agreement to the Piaget’s head teacher in order for her to singn it up
and start my practicum in Sixth Grade. I had to agree on a schedule and what to teach
with the school’s coordinator to start the practicum since I’m teaching in the grade that I
did the practicum.
Development
My main goal during this period was to transmit all my knowledge that I’d acquired in the
institute and from my own experience through meaningful and communicative activities, by
creating a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere and establishing a good rapport with
students. In my opinion, my main goal was achieved successfully. As I analyzed my role
as a teacher, I also realized some aspects to improve in order to become successful, I
must improve my language accuracy and fluency since when I’m nervous I tend to make
mistakes.
In general the activities that I planned during this period were based on the CLIL and
Communicative Approach. I mean that I tried to introduce the language to learn as well to
communicate; my lessons combined content, communication, cognition and cultural
exposure. Moreover, I tried to integrate the receptive and productive skills, and to motivate
the kids through the context to learn a new content and to revise others.
The main goal of the lesson plans were to engage students and motivate them to use the
language to communicate in real life situations. From a pedagogical point of view, the
activities and resources were coherent. I always tried to pan taking into account Bloom’s
Taxonomy. I mean that I tried to include and sequence activities from less to more
demanding. As an illustration, in one of the lessons I started the class with a game for
them to order and classify vocabulary they already knew known. After that, they continued
reading a newspaper article in order to understand the have a general idea of the text. In
the next activity, I asked them to read it again paying careful attention to new vocabulary
and structures, this time students worked in pairs to put some sentences from the text in
order. Then, I asked them to continue working in pairs, but this time they answered some
questions related to the text. Finally, students created a craft to motivate people to take
care our planet. In this lesson planned, Bloom’s taxonomy was applied from less to more
demanding activities.
Comentario [R1]: Excellent choice!!
Comentario [R2]: Well done!!
2. The group of students enjoyed the lessons and the topic that I chose. I decided to work
with pollution since I wanted them to enjoy working with it and that they could feel
comfortable. This group is very nice and they love helping, almost all of them have a big
heart and they are very conscious. Working with this topic was a great choice, they
became very conscious of the importance of helping the planet and the small things that
can help to make the difference.
During this period I could realize further aspects things to improve in order to become
successful. As I previously said, I must improve my language accuracy and fluency. I need
to pay more attention to pronunciation of certain words and I also need to relax since when
I’m not relaxed I tend to produce oral silly mistakes, that I know that are incorrect.
If I had the opportunity to do this period again, I would choose the same group since they
are amazing, I learn from them every day, they helped me to realize about things that we,
adults, do not pay attention to. The only thing that I would change is the use of resources, I
think that some of them, for example the videos could be further more exploited since
students’ enjoyed working with them and it could be great for them to include more
activities related to the videos.
Conclusion
To conclude I would like to say that my goals and objectives included in my lesson plans
were achieved. Through the lessons I was able to discover my qualities and weaknesses
aspects to improve in order to become a successful English teacher. I also learn a lot from
the Internet while I was searching for new ideas and activities to include in my lessons.
Furthermore, I think that our labor as teachers is not only to transmit grammar formulas or
lexis, it’s also to educate them, to educate the whole person and I consider that in general
it was achieved during this practicum period.
Comentario [R3]: This is not serious.
We all have a tendency to make mistakes
when nervous. The danger lies in making
fossilized mistakes.
Comentario [R4]: Such as?
Comentario [R5]: What materials will
you consult in order to work on this for the
next practicum period?
Comentario [R6]: Dear Pía
How did the feedback from your tutor and
the context (school authorities) contribute
to your professional development (if they
did)?
Remember to cover the Four dimensions
suggested in the guide text.
Congratulations on your performance
during this period!!!
Keep learning and reflecting!!!
