o 79% of smartphone owners use their phones to help with shopping, from comparing prices,
to finding more product info, to locating a retailer. (Google)
─ 77% have contacted a business via mobile, with 61% calling and 59% visiting the local
business
─ 70% have used their smartphones while in a store.
o 67% use their smartphones and tablets to find product deals, up from 44% last year. (GfK)
o Mobile Marketer interviewed a few industry experts regarding what to expect in 2012. Here
are a couple forecasts we think are interesting:
─ Android will become the primary platform for apps and marketing with clear
advantages over iOS
─ Marketers will move away from platform specific applications and towards developing
rich, mobile Web experiences. This rise in mobile Web will contribute to an overall rise of
mobile bar codes.
─ NFC will truly emerge in 2012 and replace QR codes

Holiday Mobile Trends
o 87% of tablet owners are holiday shopping using their tablets and will spend an average of
$325. Tablets owners cite convenience and ease of use as reasons why they like to shop
via these devices. (Zmags)
o 38% of consumers surveyed agree that their smartphones have empowered them to find
the best deals while shopping this holiday season.
─ Additionally, 31% of consumers used their GPS/location feature on their phone to help
with holiday shopping. (GfK)
o Holiday paid search metrics continue to rise YOY, but have peaked for the season
(Performics)
─ As spend levels off, clicks have also leveled off, up 52%, roughly the same amount as
the previous week, and CPCs are down YoY for the third consecutive week.
─ This week—as we cross the holiday ground shipping cutoff—we expect spend, clicks
and CPCs to decrease further.
