The Master Equine Manager program is an online certification program that provides comprehensive equine management education. It consists of online modules that can be accessed anytime covering topics like horse behavior, nutrition, health, and selection. Participants must complete written quizzes for each module and a hands-on practical evaluation. The goal is to meet the needs of current and future horse owners and enthusiasts.

A unique program that incorporates 24/7 access to instruction, learning resources, written and practical
assessments. Meeting future equine learner needs is the goal of the program as well as utilizing the
knowledge and abilities of current/future Master Equine Managers (MEMs).
Purpose
To provide horse owners and enthusiasts with a comprehensive educational program that teaches the science
of horse management. The Master Equine Manager program combines focused learning opportunities with
hands-on experience.
Design
The Master Equine Manager program has been redesigned to accommodate your busy schedules. The
program is a combination of video recordings, slide sets, questionnaires, articles, resources, and a quiz.
Participants will be able to access the material any time. The module will be complete when each quiz is
finished.

How About the Practical Component?
To complete the certification, you are required to attend a practical workshop and evaluation. Iowa State
University Master Equine Manager staff will provide advisory support. We can assist with contact information
for evaluators in your local area.

Certification
Certification is open to junior and senior high school students, and any adult with an interest in horses
To receive the Master Equine Manager Certificate the individual must complete each module, attend a
practical evaluation or perform a documented self-evaluation.
Examination – For each module a quiz will be associated with it. The quiz will be on-line. To be certified
an 80% or better is required on the quiz.
1. Quiz Date - You can take the quiz on any day you choose. The quiz can be repeated.
Practical Evaluation – Three options:
1. Practical evaluation dates will be available at various locations during the year
2. Schedule with an approved evaluator to perform the evaluation
3. Perform a documented self-evaluation which requires submitting a videotape, DVD or video file of
you performing the required actions
Practical Evaluation
Practical evaluations will be held at Master Equine Manager’s facilities that have completed the training,
Community Colleges and/or Universities.

Approved for Heartland AEA Credit
Master Equine Manager Program Registration Fee
$325/adult or $250/youth. Adult is 19 or over. Youth must be a junior or senior in high school.
