1. We know very well that computer has flash memory units working in them. However, what we don’t
know is how these memory units function or and their key roles. It becomes quit significant to note here
that memory units play their significant role in functioning of computers, laptops, palmtops, notebooks
etc. Flash memory and DDR memory are two genres of electronic memories which integrate into the
electronic circuits. Flash mem is a specialized unit that is programmable, re-programmable and
moreover you can also erase it electronically. This kind of memory is quite effectively used in the gaming
consoles as well as different types of memory cards. Flash mem is a non volatile computer mem and it is
also quite user friendly. Extensive use of Flash mem can be found in PDAs, digital cameras, audio
players, and phones. Another significant point to make here is that since Flash mem is non volatile in
nature all the data stored inside it will not be lost until and unless you do not manually erase the data
that has been stored in RAM memory. There are two basic forms of Flash mem, viz, NOR and NAND. It is
important to point here that NOR has the property to access any type of mem location wit the help of
data busses as well as full addresses. NAND Flash mem on the other hand has fast writing ands erase
time and these memory units are used in memory cards. Flash mem has its own very limitations and the
one of the most known limitation is that flash memory can only be erased and rewritten only for very
specific number of times.
DDR memory finds its use in the desktop computers. The acronym for memory stands as Double Data
Rate and it has significantly developed from SDRAM. DDR is twice faster than the SDRAM memory. DDRs
have different variants available in the market, and the quite prominent ones include, DDR1, DDR2 and
DDR3. You choice of a particular type of DDR mem would require that you have clear cut idea on the
compatibility of your computer system. DDR memories are also quite popular for the fact that they
consume less of power than the traditional kinds of SD RAM memories. It is very important that you
check on the compatibility of DDR mem should you go for replacement of DDR.
Next we jump on to the Compact Flash Card Memory. This type of memory belongs to its own niche and
is compatible with several different types of electronic equipment like palmtops and notebooks. You
have to be very peculiar in choosing Compact Flash Card Memory, as here again compatibility issue
comes to play the role. If size is compared, then CF (CompactFlash) memory cards are big in size than
the SD memory cards. Compact flash mem cards come in CF type I and CF type II respectively. With all
this information available, you have good reason to go for the type of memory which you want in your
computer, laptop or palmtop.
