like other Music Videos this one is also animated. Dupstep is not as much about the artist nor the
performer. It is sometimes concept driven or just complete randomness to an extent. As we can see
from this music video it is based on fantasy and words can’t really explain it. It starts with a tracing
shot of a female walking in a seminary, to dig up a dead cat. There is a slow panning shot, and then
the high key lighting helps to brighten her face, and her facial expression changes into one of a evil
child. The mise un sense is a dark seminary ,full with crosses and a half moon. This is a code and
convention of a Dupstep video, very dark in theme, and based in a world of fantasy. There are two
places in this music video, the sanitary and what’s going on in her mind. These are beautifully
juxtaposed by the colour use. The seminary scenes are dull black and white, while in her imagination
there colours are bright and florescent and sometimes they cross over. We can defiantly establish
that this pink cat is certainly the key character in this music video. This music video, from what i can
understand is about a girl who lost her pink cat in a car accident and her unwillingness to let go of
this emotional attachment goes and resurrects it. In doing so she cat comes back as devil and we see
other cats being resurrected and start roaming the streets.
This is first music video that Delta Heavy have realised so we cannot really say if all his music video
are like these but hearing his other songs we can establish that we always maintains a dark theme in
his melodies. I believe that this music video plays on the idea that dupstep has no definition, no
words can explain the sensation you get from hearing a song like this. The mainstream idea that
dupstep is “out of this world” is shown here by making this music video in cartoon, confirming the
idea that dubstep is not human, its a new breed of urban underground music that some may not
understand.
