I Am From New Jersey
Everyone has a different story that they tell which helps defines who they are. These stories are
created from experiences, people in our lives, events that took place, important dates, places we
have been, interests, and so much more. There are no two people who have the same exact story,
which makes us all unique and should drive us to want to have our own individual stories. To start
from the beginning and to give a quick summary, I am from New Jersey. A small town in Northern
Jersey called New Providence. I grew up with a younger sister, and four cousins that I basically
count as my siblings. Because my town is very small, my friends are a diverse group of people
ranging from underclassmen, to freshmen in college, and ranging from sports to the arts. People
have been very influential in my life and all the choices I have made, even my decision to attend
Loyola. Music and travel are two out of dozens of interests I have, but they're the ones that have had
prominence in my life, and mean a lot to me. Sharing this story in class was interesting for me for
sure. I am not the type of person to tell just anyone about my life, I am more of a listener. Only a
select few of people know everything about me, and I hold them close to my heart, but speaking in
front of the class lead me to tell my story differently than I would tell my best friend. I have to
admit, the story I told was just the surface of who I am, and I purposely left out huge parts of my
story because I am

Personal Narrative: The St.Judes Ranch Prom
I have been involved in the Youth Council for about one year. It was one of the best decisions I've
made. Being in the Youth council has really taught me a great deal and has given me a new
perspective. Before joining the Youth Council I was seldom involved in any community service
activities outside of my school. I was fortunate enough to find out about the Youth Council through
a family member and quickly signed up to volunteer. The first event I ever volunteered with through
the Youth Council was The St. Jude's Ranch Prom. It was a very worthwhile volunteer experience.
Every child had a different story, a different background, and a different circumstance. For one night
they were able to focus on something else; it was something they had been looking forward to. Most
everyone wants to have that 'Prom' experience. It's something people don't easily forget. We knew
that some of the children there would be unable to participate in such an event because of their
situation. Fortunately the Youth Council was able to bring the Prom to them. I was able to meet
many of the kids participating and it was a very rewarding encounter. They were elated that
someone was doing so much to make them happy. It was evident how much work had been put into
organizing the event. Every child from St.Jude's Ranch was able to pick out a gown and suit to wear.
The children were ecstatic. I helped them to set up all the clothes that was donated simply for that
event and volunteered the day of the

The Art Of Storytelling : How An Individual Can Recover...
The Art of Storytelling Storytelling is an art that can take many forms. Stories engage people on all
different levels and the greatest pathway to tell a good story is the use of emotion. It can also serve
as a medium to communicate unsaid emotions. Stories educate and also preserve history by passing
it carefully on to the next generation. Each person has a different story. One story is a just as
fascinating and unique as the other and at some point in life one gets to realize that no two stories
are exactly alike. Telling stories also present a way of understanding one's life with a deeper
understanding and meaning. Stories matter and sometimes all a person wants is a listener or just a
way to know they are being heard. Very often, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With fewer members of the congregation recovery is taking a longer process in the church than
supposed to. She not only lose her grandmother who was very dear to her, she is also afraid for her
brother because life in jail can be very hard and she fears he might not survive it. Joe is her younger
brother and she feels she is supposed to protect him but their relationship have changed over the
years. In his letters she sees the disconnection they share as a family. As a society one is generally
taught to avoid feeling or displaying of emotions. Joe's letters shows the silence that exists within
their relationship as siblings. Tretheway explains "if something isn't spoken, it isn't fully known and
we can absolve ourselves of the responsibility that knowing entails" (Tretheway 102). In Froma
Walsh's article on "Traumatic loss and major disasters: strengthening family and community
resilience", Walsh explains how sharing details about a hurtful event can aid recovery and different
families have different motivation to help victims recover. Walsh also explains that when loss of any
kind is suffered one should not expect the victim to have a firm decision on when to start or to stop
grieving. She also explains that the main purpose of finally starting to grief is not to aim for closure
but to simply get the strength to get up and move on with life. Grief is the body's natural response to
loss. It is a kind of suffering

Analysis Of The Movie ' Gone Girl No One Should Criticize...
Rosamund Pike said, "When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can 't believe that people aren
't criticizing you," and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no one
should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the actress
that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie is that
everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed "okay" by society in order to be liked. We all
have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne portrays
this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victim but underneath
it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society but a
psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers.
The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces
himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her
hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her
personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and casual,
performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy's relationship progresses the
audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But when she
becomes her "real" self, it shows

My First Friend
I like to think I have a lot of friends. I wouldn't call myself "popular" but I mean a lot of people in
the school know me, or know of me. Ironically, I'm a very awkward person I have a fairly hard time
talking to new people. Well at least I used to, I fixed that up a while ago. But have you ever seen
someone and think "wow I want to talk to them. They seem really cool". Im going to assume you
have, because that's what was going through my mind when I saw this new kid come on my bus one
day. We'll call him "Z" for now. Back to the story, so I saw this new kid come onto my bus and he
automatically intrigued me. I saw him and I wanted to be his friend and get to know so much about
him. The things is though at this time I was a very awkward kid and I had no idea how to talk to
him. I could tell by the way things were he was very quiet type of guy. He never spoke to anyone on
our bus, never smiled, never laughed, he just sat there alone staring out of his window with his
earbuds in blasting music I could hear from the seat horizontal from him.
So about every other day I would see Z and each day I got more and more nervous. I noticed he
would always look over at me so I thought to myself "well next time he does I guess I should say hi"
well. I don't like to listen to myself so that back fired. The next day things were on my side. Our
packed bus (for the first time that's a good thing) pretty much forced me to sit next to him. So I told
myself "Well I guess it's now or never" so

Good evening.
We, of Cedar Community College, are many nations. We are men and women, husbands and wives,
parents. We are young and not–so–young. Behind the face of every graduate, and just as distinct, is a
different story, a different reason, and a different use for the education for which we have assembled
this evening to recognize. We serve to enrich the campus community, as we are not just a cross–
section of this nation, but of the world. Displayed in the Brier Hall cafeteria are 50 national flags to
signify our cultural heritage here at Cedar. Yet regardless of our diverse origins, we come here

We have learned to appreciate what value Cedar Community College has brought to our education.
We are a community unto ourselves, seeking to better understand the changing world around us.
However, we are not only graduates of a two–year institution but have additional responsibilities in
our respective worlds. Many of us have children who look to us for support and guidance, we have
spouses in whom we trust our love and share our needs, and we are personnel to employers who
seek our expertise and enterprise. It is for these causes that the community college was created, for
these reasons that Cedar has provided opportunities to further an education we may not have
otherwise and has supplied us with tools to promote ourselves to the world. Some of us have been
here to increase our value to our current employers, some to become more marketable. Yet
regardless of our reasons, we have increased our value to ourselves.
Some years ago, I spoke with a wise woman whose advice has changed the course of my life
countless times. Agonizing over not completing my degree, I was complaining about how difficult it
would be to return to academia at my age. I said to her: "Mom, it'll take me 10 years to finish my
degree – I'll be 40 years old by then." She simply replied, "In 10 years you'll be 40 anyway."
My own experiences in completing a two–year degree are probably not unlike those of many of you.
I entered college right out of high school and

Amy's walking toward the door of the school, very slowly. She's wearing a blue dress, and her black
straight hair made her look kind of sad. Her face was white, but it's not a normal white. Her face was
white like the clouds, or even the snows. The "school was tremendous, but that's what makes it feel
scary. Everything around her felt scary, the kids, the wall, even the air around her felt scary.
Amy's here, at the classroom, by the lockers. A kid suddenly came out, and she said "Oh, you're

The Bare Bones Of The Set Of Hamilton Essay
The bare bones of the set of Hamilton: An American Musical is essentially some scaffolding, stairs,
exposed brick, and well placed rope. These seemingly simple elements come together to make an
intricate time–lapse through our nations history. The set designer for Hamilton is David Korins. The
set looks like the belly of a ship and the bakery from Broadway 's "Sweeny Todd" had a love child.
The set floor consists of a painted on wood grain that looks very realistic and rustic. The floor is also
composed of two giant turntables within each other. Korins says he did base his design of the set off
of old ship building sketches. "Inspired by the Capitol
Building's round dome and the dramatic concept of operating theater, Korins quickly landed on an
essential component of the "Hamilton" staging: the turntable.
As early sketches like the ones above show, Korins' set involves a double turntable arrangement,
framed by scaffolding and a second–level catwalk, designed in the style of the ships that brought
Alexander Hamilton from the British West Indies to
America. The spinning turntable allows the musical to swirl, the choreography and period garb to
leap off the stage." (Huffington Post). The use of the turntable reflects the plot because Hamilton
literally never stops going, their world is a constant revolving whirlwind. During the intermission
the set literally grows as if it in itself is preparing for Hamilton 's ever expanding journey through
his life.
Korin 's team brings in 8

Three Different Types Of Conflicts In Short Stories
Types of Conflicts in Short Stories
Short story writing literature is a very important art and has been around for long time. Every short
story will consist of five different elements. These are as follows: Setting, Plot, Character, Point of
View and Theme. In this essay, we are going to discuss three of these stories and try to look at them
from different perspectives. We will be considering the elements of the stories and how the writers
expressed that. We are going to discuss the different phases and changes that each character in these
three different stories from the beginning until the end with some highlight on the events and
conflicts that lead to these changes. We will start with "A Letter from Gaza" by Ghassan Kanafani,
then "After Twenty Years" by O. Henry and last will be "The Scarlet Ibis" by J. Hurst. I will give a
summarizing overall conclusion at the end of this essay.
Conflict is a major component within the plot element of a story and moves the events. It is about
the struggle that characters face to lead them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ashamed about it that drives him to force the little brother to become better or else more normal.
When the brother said "..Renaming my brother was probably the kindest thing I ever did for him.."
maybe that was not completely true. He taught Doodle to stand and walk. He even wanted him to
run, swim and climb tree just like normal kids. But all of this was not only because he really loved
him and wanted him to be normal. It was also because he was ashamed to pull him in the cart or to

toughing moment when he walked in front of his parents the first time. "..They didn't know that I did

Seventeen years ago, a girl went missing, then a body was uncovered. What chain of events had
occurred in order to compose this crime? As presented and narrated by Sarah Koenig, the Serial
podcast informs readers on the murder of a highschool girl. The year was 1999 and Hae Min Lee,
the victim of the crime, was found strangled and buried in Leakin Park. Adnan Syed, Hae's ex
boyfriend, was deemed the main suspect responsible for her death. Supposedly, his motive was
jealousy and anger caused after Hae had broken up with him in exchange for the companionship of
her co worker, Don. Although this wasn't the case, according to Adnan and other people who knew
him. Yet Adnan was still tried as guilty, and the foundation for that case was the information ...

The crime had taken place in a twenty–one minute time frame, though this affidavit extracts Adnan
from the scene, placing him in the library during the extent of the murder. In the letter it was written,
"Dear Adnan–– I hope I spelled it right. I'm not sure if you remember talking to me in the library on
January 13, but I remember chatting with you" (Episode 1: The Alibi, Page 18). According to Asia
Mcclain, author of the affidavit, Adnan had spoken to her at library when he was supposedly
enacting the deed of strangling Hae to death. The contents of the letter as opposed to what was
established about the time frame of Hae's death clearly demonstrates that Adnan is innocent, "Quote,
"We left around 2:40," unquote. Remember, Hae is supposed to be dead by 2:36" (Episode 1: The
Alibi, Page 18). Adnan had spent the time with Asia at the library, being there during the frame of
time in which Hae's murder occurred, making it impossible for him to be the killer. Adnan Syed has
an alibi, putting him away from the scene of the crime, this indicates that he was innocent and

How Has Christianity Impacted My Life
Ultimately, it was through the work of the early Church, Christianity had been able to have its
magnitude. It makes one wonder, what did they bring up that brought multitudes to Christ? Well, it
was a very simple tool that it is in the hand of every believer today–the testimony. Their testimony
and our testimony centers around the Resurrection and the transformative power of Christ. Yet, what
makes each testimony unique is God's unique plan for everyone's life. Our lives and how God
intervened in them provides an avenue for us to relate to the struggles of others showing them that
God can change their life too. All my blessings and struggles have been beautifully woven into a
testimony that I can share with those that need to hear the Gospel, yet there wouldn't be a testimony
if God didn't save my life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

after Hurricane Katrina, our family didn't attend church because we were so occupied with
rebuilding our lives. Yet, I was still able to have exposure to Christ from my God–fearing parents
and my Catholic school. Eventually, due to the conviction in my parents' hearts, we found a church
home. From there on, I could receive the Word in a church setting regularly. As time went on, I
matured in my faith and became fond of the things of God. I wanted to discover him and understand
why I believed in Him. In my early high school years, I talked about Him with my friends for I had

Matthew's Coming Of Age Story In Traditional Bildungsroman...
Angelina Jolie once said, "I do believe in the old saying, 'What does not kill you makes you
stronger.' Our experiences, good and bad, make us who we are. By overcoming difficulties, we gain
strength and maturity." Throughout the course of one's life, they will experience their coming of age
story and mature from it, which can be see in most traditional Bildungsroman stories. Everyone has
a different story, but we all have one. Through the use of of a comic utilizing expressionism and
single page panels, Matthew's coming of age story shows that people are subject to maturation
through big life transitions and racist endeavors in any form of a novel, thereby suggesting harsh
situations can help us to become a bigger person in the long run. In life, all people will go through
situations that bring them down, but it how we respond to those moments that define us and help
mature us. In this comic, the panels of the maturation of the protagonist are in a deliberate sequence,
intended to show his maturation. Matthew focused on football when he should have been focusing
on his grades instead. Football is an icon for Matthew, which symbolizes his major fantasy. It
appears that he wanted to have fun in high school, rather than doing school work. The comic uses
scene to scene transitions to show how events occurred in order. The use of word bubbles show that
Matthew even had the audacity to tell his teacher that he would start to do his school work after he
finished his football

individually or together for a reward. There are also other forms of reality television and since the
first episodes there has been lots of development .The first episodes of reality television were first
introduced between the late 1940–1950.Since then the number of series, seasons and episodes has
shown a significant increase as it has only gained more popularity. Today questions have been raised
concerning the topic of how much is really reality. There are different reality television forms. All

the programmes is on drama between groups and individuals and personal issues which are both for
entertainment purposes. Today very few shows are educational or are of any informative use for

A Different Road Short Story
"A Different Road" by Elizabeth Strout, is a short story about an old couple named Henry and Olive
who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. On their way back from a restaurant, they stop at
a nearby hospital to use the bathroom, but end up being held hostage by some masked men
attempting to steal drugs. Overall, I really enjoyed the story because of the plot, the characters, the
structure, the writing technique, and the humor. I found the plot to be very entertaining because I
like stories about people in danger. In the story, Henry and Olive Kitteridge are just an average old
couple who live in New England, and their son has just moved to California. After going out to
dinner one night and eating crab meat, Olive demands that Henry stops at the hospital so she can use
the restroom, and the nurse insists that Olive get checked out just to be safe. They all end up tied up
in the bathroom by two men in masks. I really liked the plot because I feel like there aren't too many
stories about old people being held hostage, and I thought it was very creative. I also thought the
story had a lot of action in it, which kept me hooked. Although I enjoyed the plot, I also really liked
the characters, especially Olive. I thought Olive was a very funny and unique character because of
her witty remarks, and because of how dominant she was. For example, I liked when she demanded
that Henry pull over, and when he told her to wait she said "Tell my insides"(107) and "Good Lord,
Henry. I'm about ready to explode" (107). I thought these remarks were pretty funny, and added a lot
to her character. I also liked when she said "Stop the goddamn car" (109) because she knew Henry
hated hearing her swear, but she said it anyways to make him mad. I also thought she was funny
when the doctor was examining her because she appreciated that the doctor wasn't bored since other
doctors made her feel like a "fat lump moving down the conveyer belt" (112). I thought this simile
was very funny and showed Olive's personality. Olive's character added a lot to the story because it
made the whole story funnier and easier to read. The structure of the story was very interesting and
made the story a little more fun to read. I like how

The place I am thinking of is tall, but not too tall. Tall enough to make you look up at the ceiling and

Who Is Red's Story Involved In A Different Prison?
I strongly believe the story would have changed if it had occurred in a different setting because of
the important factors, the courtyard, the library and Andy's cell.
Firstly, the courtyard where Red does his special trading of contraband items was larger than any
prison in England, as said in the book so it's easy for him to trade due to there being enough room
for him to deal and get out safely. If book were set in a different prison, Red probably would have
the job he had at Shawshank, moreover Andy wouldn't have approached Red for a Rock hammer,
rock blankets and/or the countless pin–up queens posters.
Secondly, the library where Andy had worked and ran was originally a closet that storage the
prison's paint, until Andy proposed to turn it into a library, best prison library at that. If book were
set in a different prison, there would probably already be a library in the prison so Andy wouldn't
have gone through the struggles and successes of creating Shawshank's library. When Warden
Norman threatened to turn the library back into the paint closet because Andy wanted a retrial due to

Persuasive Speech About Otp
Why you should care
You are receiving the worst possible deal. Let me recap.
OTPs are constructs based on content we consume on screens or on stages. They are a hunt for
photos and videos showing interactions between two idols in order to understand a relationship or
refine a story.
Unless the group breaks apart, that hunt will never end. In order to observe the interactions, we
consume content and stay engaged with that group.
In the process, we spend a lot of time and probably money while gaining nothing. Nothing. What do
you gain from your OTP? Happiness? Entertainment? Please. We know of better ways.
We do not want to here it but here is the truth: Our OTP is an addiction. It will not put us in a
hospital, but it does leave damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We engage in a seemingly reciprocal relationship with that group. Of course, this is an illusion. The
members of the group do not know us. They have no idea who we truly are. Still, broadcasts feel
like we know them better than some of our friends. But we do not.
The key idea is that because we feel close to our idols, we regularly consume their content and buy
their products. Engagement results in revenue, not a hundred percent, but obviously enough to
create entire show buildings. OTPs are one of the ways we keep engaged with a group.
Remember, the relationship that we see between two idols is not the whole story. Relationships
develop off camera. OTPs exist because we make assumptions about those relationships and project
our wishes onto them. However, as OTPs keep us fans engaged, companies actively cultivate them
in order to generate revenue.
This is why interactions are promoted and not cut. This is why they are predictable. This is why you
will never see an OTP fighting.
We should be able to identify with our ideas of the OTP.

Same Story, Different Ending
Imagine someone not being in control of their life and not being able to speak up. The story "The
Leaving" is about a woman who is tasked with maintaining a family of 7 including herself. This task
is very difficult for her because the family is very poor, there is no running water and the only help
she receives is from her young daughter Sylvie. The story "Same Story, Different Ending" is about a
woman who decided to marry a man against the will of her family. Resulting in her family trying to
kill her in the name of "family honor". Both of these stories show men with more authority than
women, but in both stories, the women managed to achieve their goals and improve their lives. In
both stories, it appears that men have more authority than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the Story "Same Story, Different Ending" Anila fell in love with a man she met in university,
against the will of her family. Her family was furious and even tried to set a trap. She knew that "if
she had returned home, [her] brother would have killed [her] with the blessing of the rest of the
family" (Batool, 2010, p. 2). But despite her family trying to kill her, she still married the man she
wanted and escaped to Canada to start a new life. The Story "The Leaving" on the other hand is not
as extreme, but still, changes the life of the woman. In the story, the mother escaped her house and
went to Halifax. After being treated like a servant for too long at home, the mother made the
decision that she would now be respected and treated fairly. She was inspired to do so by a book she
read, called "The Feminine Mystique". Which told her that she was not the only woman being
treated unfairly. After standing up to the father, the mother managed to receive more help from the
men. She even requested that Jem, her youngest son, fetch water for them by saying "[she would] be
right grateful if [he would] fetch some water for Sylvie" (Wilson, 1990, p. 4), and he did her request
willingly. In both of these instances, the women improved their lives and escaped being

Comparing Two Different Versions Of A Cinderella Story
There are two different versions of a Cinderella story. There is a French version and a German
version. The two stories have a lot of similarities as far as the theme and the way the story plays out
for Cinderella. It also has a lot of similarities in the magical transformations. The stories teach to
treat others as how you would want to be treated. To begin with, the two Cinderella stories have the
same evil stepmother and stepsisters. In the German version there is a quote that shows Cinderella
had a very bad stepmom, "They were beautiful, with fair faces, but evil and dark hearts." "Time
grew very bad for the stepchild." These quotes show that the two Cinderella's had terrible
stepmothers and treated her with no respect no matter how nice she was to them. To begin with, her
family made her do all the chores while they tortured Cinderella. ... Show more content on

When Cinderella finished her chores her stepmother told her she was beautiful enough to go to the
ball with them. In the German version the stepmother told her Cinderella she could go to the ball if
she did chores but the stepmother tricked her 3 different times. So in both stories its similar that the
stepmother tricked both Cinderella's into doing chores. In two versions of the story, the godmother
figures are different. In the French version, the figure is the traditional fairy godmother that found
her crying because she wanted to go to the ball. In the German version, there were two white
pigeons that carried her dress in instead of using magic to transform her into the dress, slipper, and
carriage. The fairy godmother represents the original figure in the story. The two white pigeons are
part of the German culture so that's why they were used in the story instead of the fairy

Different Ideas Extracted from the Story, Beowulf
In the story Beowulf, many different ideas can be extracted. It envelopes lineage which was crucial
in the Anglo–Saxon period. It also envelopes kennings, litotes, and alliteration which was crucial to
the formatting of the story. Most importantly it involves various themes. These themes include
loyalty, generosity, reputation, and revenge. Themes are a vital part of a story and Beowulf in
particular involves many. Loyalty is an extremely important trait one could have. It involves trust,
courage, and willpower. Beowulf sets off to the Danes land and vividly displays his loyalty by
fighting off Grendel even when he is against major odds. After a short time the King of the Geats,
Hygelac is killed and Beowulf returns to pay homage to his home land and to his uncle. After this
Grendel's mother get involved and Beowulf returns to the Danes yet again to rid of yet another
terrorizing attacker. In the end his loyalty pays off. When the elderly Beowulf goes to fight a dragon
he is determined to fight the dragon alone but brings with him eleven men that promised their lives
to him. When the men see that Beowulf starts to lose the fight all but one ran to the forrest to hide.
Wiglaf stays loyal and helps Beowulf and in the end Wiglaf is rewarded. Just as well as loyalty in
Beowulf, generosity is also a very apparent theme. In one way generosity is shown by King
Hrothgar. In this time the king was given all wealth and in return he distributed land, swords and
objects to

Examples Of Suffering In Life Of Pi
When considering the story, the "Life of Pi," one begins to understand that one cannot undergo life
without suffering, and one cannot encounter suffering without a certain amount of courage,
determination, faith, and prayer. In the story, the "Life of Pi," Pi experienced heartache through the
death of his family, and underwent much suffering from witnessing the deaths of his mother, the
Buddhist, and the cook. Pi also learned from his horrific experience how fragile life is and that one
cannot control natural occurrences or change God's plan. Although Pi faced much torment, he never
lost his faith in God, nor did he give up on his own life. One of the more interesting ways that Pi
described his suffering was through comparing the abnormal behaviors of his fellow escapees to the
animals he studied at his family's zoo. Therefore, because of his faith, courage, and determination,
he defined himself more clearly than he would have if he had not experienced what he had.
When one considers that "one cannot undergo life without suffering," it can seem daunting. One
might comment that suffering is full of pain and that one does not need suffering to survive in this
life, but one does. One needs to experience suffering to define who each one is as an individual, how
one allows suffering to affect their life is up to them. How they scrutinize suffering defines who they
are, and what they believe. In the "Life of Pi" Pi defines his suffering as an act of God, he goes on to
state that "even in the midst of my suffering, God had not forgotten me." When one hears someone
comment, "it is all part of God's plan," their first reaction is either like Pi's when he was a boy:
"what kind of Father would sacrifice his own son for the sins of others," or "if there is a God, why
would he allow one to suffer?" These two questions are important questions, not only because they
compel one to consider one's existence, but also because it begins to define who they are as an
individual. One could say that every individual at some point in their life asks this question, and one
could credibly argue that it is healthy, but one should be made aware that there is a deeper meaning
to life and one can only pray that one day all may learn of

Domestic Manners Of The Americans

History 205
Dr. Katrina Anderson
May 7, 2015 Trollope, Frances Milton. Domestic Manners of the Americans. Cambridge:
Cambridge UP, 2009. Print.
Domestic Manners of Americans is one of the most hard–hitting, successful novels written by
Frances Trollope, displaying themes scattered throughout the book about the United States as seen
from a different perspective, from the eyes of a tourist. Frances Trollope resides from England, and
in 1827 she made the decision to embark on a journey to America, to see if it really was the land of
opportunity. She left with her three children and set off leaving her normal life, and her husband,
behind her. What she hoped to find in America was a new life, a new experience, and what she
found was a country that was struggling to see the incredible number of problems it held. Slavery,
social injustice toward women, and the misuse of religion are all addressed in the novel by Frances
Trollope, and she refrains from censoring herself to make sure that it is evident that the United
States is not the 'Land of the Free' that Americans think it is.
There were many events that occurred in Domestic Manners of Americans that stood out and
showed a strong opinion of Trollope's view on them. Frances Trollope set out on an adventure to
explore America and the opportunities it holds, but her expectations were crushed when she arrived.
The early 1800s were a time of turmoil and unrest in America, not the ideal time for a tourist

Theme Of Identity In Flowers For Algernon By Daniel Keys
In the book, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, the formatting of the story supports a theme of
identity. There are multiple formats that support the theme. The first being the narration in which the
story is written in; first person. The reader is allowed to experience the story through the main
character's eyes, Charlie Gordon. Charlie is a 32 year old man with an abnormally low I.Q of 68. In
order to increase his mental capacities, he is the first human to have his intelligence increased by
surgery. Secondly, is the formatting of the book in chronological order. While undergoing this
surgery, Charlie must write progress reports, each labeled with their own date. The first progress
report is written on March 3rd. The last progress report is written on November 21st. It gives the
reader a sense of time and progression. And lastly, is the author's writing style of changing Charlie's
spelling, grammar, and punctuation in his progress reports. Each report is written according to his
level of intelligence at the time. In the beginning of the book Charlie has not been surgically
changed, and therefore, his spelling, grammar, and punctuation is poor. However, this later changes
dramatically.
The entire book, Flowers for Algernon, is written in first person narration. As a result of this, the
reader can dive deeper into Charlie's thoughts, and feelings. He struggled to find his true self in the
aftermath of the surgery, thus supporting a theme of identity. For instance, there

How Does Gregor Change Throughout The Metamorphosis
Throughout "The Metamorphosis" we learn about a character named Gregor and everything he has
going on with him, his thoughts, with relationships, his physical and mental limitations, and the
overall situation he's been so unfortunate to be a part of. Gregor has a lot going on now that he's
transformed so i'll cover everything i'm able to.
To start the biggest change is obviously that he is now a man–sized bug. When he wakes up, he isn't
understanding of how this new body works, Gregor doesn't have any way of already knowing so he
has to figure out the functions of this body himself. Everything seems to be an absolute struggle for
Gregor, even the simplest tasks evidenced by examples such as "At first he wanted to get out of bed
with the lower part of his body, but this lower part (which he incidentally had not yet looked at and
which he also couldn't picture clearly) proved itself being too difficult to move" paragraph 11, page
140. Something as basic as turning a section of his body to get out of bed became a challenge he
couldn't pass.
Rolling into the next category Gregor isn't really able to talk except for a few very forced words
right after his metamorphosis. He makes many attempts to talk to his family and servants, but every
time he tries all that comes out is a series of incomprehensible slurs that only he can understand.
This leads to his family making the assumption that Gregor can no longer understand them either, an
unfair call.

A Different Snow White Story Essay examples
Over the years, Snow White's story has been told in numerous different versions then its original
version in 1812 by the Grimm Brothers. The main basis of the story has remained the same. Only a
few minor tweaks to the story have changed. The three versions of the story that are going to be

And in 2012 Disney returned by making another remake of the classic story directed by Tarsem
Singh. He added vivid color and unbelievably real affects and backdrops. In addition to the world
visually changing, you also have to keep into consideration the time period it was created. Each of
these stories were created in very different times. In 1937, the depression was at its peak and Walt
Disney wanted Snow White to help people understand that true love was still possible. He wanted
people to be able to relate to Snow White. He dressed her in rags and showed that she still had
goodness in her heart even though she was treated badly. The Brothers Grimm wanted to write a
story to more or less teach people lessons on life, rather than entertain them on how true love was
still possible. And then you have "Mirror, Mirror", which was to encourage the viewers to help
others with pure compassion. The appearance of Snow White has not changed over the years. She
has remained to be "a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as ebony wood" (Grimm
1884). Although the visible characteristics of her has not changed, the way that it was described has
changed. Walt Disney described Snow White as, "lips red as a rose, hair black as ebony, and skin
white as snow" (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1937). She is described in the same way in
"Mirror, Mirror". Her age differs in the versions, but I feel like it all evens out in the

My Career Goals Of Education In High School
Education has always been something of great importance now in today's society and for those who
are just beginning their journey through high school, it is a great idea to give them advice from
seniors. This way they know that high school is not something to be afraid of that instead to be
proud of. My education from kindergarten to 12 grade has been filled with emotions as well as new
experiences that prepare me for life. Some of which taught me to not be afraid to stand in front of a

to see them get better is just joy into my world.

Nathaniel Bacon's Slavery And The Consequences Of...
Although history makes Nathaniel Bacon seem as he is doing wrong by rebelling, it is important to
get the full picture of what really happened. The author writes about Nathaniel Bacon's Rebellion
and the aftermath of what happened afterwards. In both of these accounts, the author shows that the
colonists and the king fail to see the full picture of the events that occurred. If the king would have
seen both side's equally, then Nathaniel Bacon wouldn't have been in the wrong for his actions. This
also would be true when the Virginian's were afraid of a massive attack that never took place and
was made up. They were deceived just as the king was when he read Berkley's accounts of the
events that took place.
Nathaniel Bacon is notorious for his rebellion in this story, and is seen as the one who stepped out of
line when he rebelled against Berkley. However, Bacon could be seen as the one who saved many
Virginian's from a dictator that who was only looking out for himself and took almost complete
control of the government in Virginia. If he would have never rebelled the colony of Virginia would
have kept being strip of their rights to vote. The fact that Berkley controlled most of the Virginia
government is corrupt. Even though the American government wasn't around yet, the colonies were

The Motivation Of Fear In The Glass Castle
The Motivation of Fear What is the driving force for humanity to form civilizations and live in
homes? Is it to have a protective structure from the wild? Why do humans act the way they do?
Human nature is a natural response to the fear that guides humanity to form the societies we see
today. Fear can be defined as an emotional response to possibility of being in danger or being
anxious. Thus, the fear of being unprotected from the weather, wild animals or insects, and people
we are unfamiliar with has led societies to be built. In the Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls tells a
different story of her untraditional upbringing. Jeannette Walls uses events in her past that exemplify
this fear to pivot the narrative and keep the reader's attention. From the initial start of story Jeanette
choses to recant a memory that displays one of her deepest fears of her early adult life. Jeannette's
mother decided to be unemployed and live homeless, while Jeannette attends Barnard College and
lives a more luxurious lifestyle. From the very first sentence, "I was sitting in a taxi, wondering if I
had overdressed for the evening, when I looked out the window and saw Mom rooting through a
Dumpster... It had been months since I laid my eyes on Mom, and when she looked, I was overcome
with panic that she'd see me and call out my name, and that someone on the way to the same party
would spot us together and Mom would introduce herself and my secret would be out" (Walls 3).

Misery Islands Themes
Misery Islands by January O'Neil
When I heard January O'Neil read a few of her pieces from Misery Islands, I knew I had to buy the
book, and I'm glad I did. If I had to name the theme of this book, I'd have to say it's a mix between
pain and growth – and joy and wanting to stay in one place forever. I like the combination because
while one piece makes you want to stay in the place January is, and enjoy the moments that are
happening, the next piece can make you want to forget. It's not all happy pieces and then all sad
pieces: it's realistic with sad and happy pieces mixed together in random places. One minute you're
reading You Get Up and the next you're reading Cunt. It's like life. You Are Not Your Salary (pg. 8)
is a piece that caught my eye, and I've found that I've read the piece almost every day, or I'm saying
it in my head. I interpreted it saying that someone can be everything, they can be everywhere, but
they're not the only thing out there. I connected this piece to my Mom in a really strange way. She's
the person who gave birth to me, she's the one who raised me (kinda), she's my Mom... but she's not
the person I need. After Making Love, I Leave to Write a Poem (pg. 29) is one of my favorite poems

Many of these pieces broke my heart into what seems like a million pieces. A heavy topic in this
book is sex, specifically, rape. This is something I've experienced, and the feelings that come with
that experience are executed beautifully. It's like the words I've been needing to say are on the pages
in front of me. One thing I found interesting about this book is the fact that in random places, there
are facts about different things. For example, on page 31, the word rape is defined, and then a story
about the author's childhood is told. It's not poetic in the least, but it almost feels that way because of

Theme Of Storytelling In The Things They Carried
Storytelling is like opening a window to the mind of the listeners. Stories provide the chance to
experience a wide variety of emotions without actually having to go through the situations in which
you would feel them. Tim O'Brien uses himself to show us that storytelling and memory can help
alleviate burdens over time. Through the book, The Things They Carried, we can take a look at
many war stories that Tim tells and how storytelling can get people through the times they never
thought they could. He shows this by retelling many stories about the burdens he carries from the
war throughout this book. Burdens are heavy loads, almost like an invisible back pack we carry with

In the text, Tim O'Brien uses, "But this too is true: stories can save us, in a story, miracles can

people and mean the world to others. In a story, there might be something said that can remind a

to recover from, it is possible. I read an article on how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
became a problem far beyond the battlefield. In the article, there was a section that talked about how
the soldiers come home from war and don't know how to act in the new environment from were
they've been striving for what seemed to be forever. This can cause an unhealthy amount of stress
and uncomfortableness on the soldiers because they are going from being with the same group of
people under the same rough conditions to returning home and having to try and settle back into a
much more relaxed setting than they were used to. This can directly be seen in the article where it
says, "Many soldiers will tell you that the hardest things about coming home is learning to sleep
without the security of a group of heavily armed men around them" (Junger). When the men come
home and tell the memories they have from fighting in the war, it helps them relieve what they've
been carrying

Short Story Analysis- The Piece of String by Guy de...
SSA: The Piece of String By: Guy de Maupassant I. Analysis of Elements A. Characters The story's
two major characters are both considered as a stereotype character. Their roles were easily known as
the author clearly discussed their parts and physiognomies in the story. The story's protagonist is
Maître Hauchecome. He was wrongly accused for stealing a pocketbook with five hundred francs
and some business papers. Every time people saw him, they harassed him. He can also be a dynamic
character. From being a simple and innocent man, he was suddenly ruined by injustice. Another
character is Maître Malandain. He was certainly identified as the antagonist of the story when the
author stated that he was the enemy of Maître Hauchecome and ... Show more content on

Consonance "Maître Hauchecome was seized with a sort of shame to be seen thus by his enemy,
picking a bit of string out of the dirt." 3. Litotes "What grieved me so much was not the thing itself
as the lying. There is nothing so shameful as to be placed under a cloud on account of a lie." 4.
Hyperbole "He went home ashamed and indignant, choking with anger and confusion, the more
dejected that he was capable, with his Norman cunning, of doing what they had accused him of and
ever boasting of it as of a good turn." 5. Appositive "The next day about one o'clock in the afternoon
Marius Paumelle, a hired man in the employ of Maître Breton, husbandman at Ymanville, returned
the pocketbook and its contents to Maître Houlbreque of Manneville." V. Analysis of Literary
Devices 1. Flashback "I was seen, me? Who says he saw me?" "Monsieur Malandain, the harness
maker." The old man remembered, understood and flushed with anger. Flashback was presented
when Maître Hauchecome tried to recall the time when Monsieur Malandain was looking at him
while he was picking up the piece of string. 2. Imagery "In the public square of Goderville there was
a crowd, a throng of human beings and animals mixed together. The horns of the cattle, the tall hats,
with long nap, of the rich peasant and the headgear of the peasant women rose above the surface of
the assembly. And the clamorous, shrill, screaming voices made a continuous and savage din

I Am From New Jersey

  • 1. I Am From New Jersey Everyone has a different story that they tell which helps defines who they are. These stories are created from experiences, people in our lives, events that took place, important dates, places we have been, interests, and so much more. There are no two people who have the same exact story, which makes us all unique and should drive us to want to have our own individual stories. To start from the beginning and to give a quick summary, I am from New Jersey. A small town in Northern Jersey called New Providence. I grew up with a younger sister, and four cousins that I basically count as my siblings. Because my town is very small, my friends are a diverse group of people ranging from underclassmen, to freshmen in college, and ranging from sports to the arts. People have been very influential in my life and all the choices I have made, even my decision to attend Loyola. Music and travel are two out of dozens of interests I have, but they're the ones that have had prominence in my life, and mean a lot to me. Sharing this story in class was interesting for me for sure. I am not the type of person to tell just anyone about my life, I am more of a listener. Only a select few of people know everything about me, and I hold them close to my heart, but speaking in front of the class lead me to tell my story differently than I would tell my best friend. I have to admit, the story I told was just the surface of who I am, and I purposely left out huge parts of my story because I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Personal Narrative: The St.Judes Ranch Prom I have been involved in the Youth Council for about one year. It was one of the best decisions I've made. Being in the Youth council has really taught me a great deal and has given me a new perspective. Before joining the Youth Council I was seldom involved in any community service activities outside of my school. I was fortunate enough to find out about the Youth Council through a family member and quickly signed up to volunteer. The first event I ever volunteered with through the Youth Council was The St. Jude's Ranch Prom. It was a very worthwhile volunteer experience. Every child had a different story, a different background, and a different circumstance. For one night they were able to focus on something else; it was something they had been looking forward to. Most everyone wants to have that 'Prom' experience. It's something people don't easily forget. We knew that some of the children there would be unable to participate in such an event because of their situation. Fortunately the Youth Council was able to bring the Prom to them. I was able to meet many of the kids participating and it was a very rewarding encounter. They were elated that someone was doing so much to make them happy. It was evident how much work had been put into organizing the event. Every child from St.Jude's Ranch was able to pick out a gown and suit to wear. The children were ecstatic. I helped them to set up all the clothes that was donated simply for that event and volunteered the day of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Art Of Storytelling : How An Individual Can Recover... The Art of Storytelling Storytelling is an art that can take many forms. Stories engage people on all different levels and the greatest pathway to tell a good story is the use of emotion. It can also serve as a medium to communicate unsaid emotions. Stories educate and also preserve history by passing it carefully on to the next generation. Each person has a different story. One story is a just as fascinating and unique as the other and at some point in life one gets to realize that no two stories are exactly alike. Telling stories also present a way of understanding one's life with a deeper understanding and meaning. Stories matter and sometimes all a person wants is a listener or just a way to know they are being heard. Very often, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With fewer members of the congregation recovery is taking a longer process in the church than supposed to. She not only lose her grandmother who was very dear to her, she is also afraid for her brother because life in jail can be very hard and she fears he might not survive it. Joe is her younger brother and she feels she is supposed to protect him but their relationship have changed over the years. In his letters she sees the disconnection they share as a family. As a society one is generally taught to avoid feeling or displaying of emotions. Joe's letters shows the silence that exists within their relationship as siblings. Tretheway explains "if something isn't spoken, it isn't fully known and we can absolve ourselves of the responsibility that knowing entails" (Tretheway 102). In Froma Walsh's article on "Traumatic loss and major disasters: strengthening family and community resilience", Walsh explains how sharing details about a hurtful event can aid recovery and different families have different motivation to help victims recover. Walsh also explains that when loss of any kind is suffered one should not expect the victim to have a firm decision on when to start or to stop grieving. She also explains that the main purpose of finally starting to grief is not to aim for closure but to simply get the strength to get up and move on with life. Grief is the body's natural response to loss. It is a kind of suffering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Movie ' Gone Girl No One Should Criticize... Rosamund Pike said, "When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can 't believe that people aren 't criticizing you," and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no one should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the actress that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie is that everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed "okay" by society in order to be liked. We all have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne portrays this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victim but underneath it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society but a psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers. The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and casual, performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy's relationship progresses the audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But when she becomes her "real" self, it shows ... • 9. My First Friend I like to think I have a lot of friends. I wouldn't call myself "popular" but I mean a lot of people in the school know me, or know of me. Ironically, I'm a very awkward person I have a fairly hard time talking to new people. Well at least I used to, I fixed that up a while ago. But have you ever seen someone and think "wow I want to talk to them. They seem really cool". Im going to assume you have, because that's what was going through my mind when I saw this new kid come on my bus one day. We'll call him "Z" for now. Back to the story, so I saw this new kid come onto my bus and he automatically intrigued me. I saw him and I wanted to be his friend and get to know so much about him. The things is though at this time I was a very awkward kid and I had no idea how to talk to him. I could tell by the way things were he was very quiet type of guy. He never spoke to anyone on our bus, never smiled, never laughed, he just sat there alone staring out of his window with his earbuds in blasting music I could hear from the seat horizontal from him. So about every other day I would see Z and each day I got more and more nervous. I noticed he would always look over at me so I thought to myself "well next time he does I guess I should say hi" well. I don't like to listen to myself so that back fired. The next day things were on my side. Our packed bus (for the first time that's a good thing) pretty much forced me to sit next to him. So I told myself "Well I guess it's now or never" so ... We, of Cedar Community College, are many nations. We are men and women, husbands and wives, parents. We are young and not–so–young. Behind the face of every graduate, and just as distinct, is a different story, a different reason, and a different use for the education for which we have assembled this evening to recognize. We serve to enrich the campus community, as we are not just a cross– section of this nation, but of the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have learned to appreciate what value Cedar Community College has brought to our education. We are a community unto ourselves, seeking to better understand the changing world around us. However, we are not only graduates of a two–year institution but have additional responsibilities in our respective worlds. Many of us have children who look to us for support and guidance, we have spouses in whom we trust our love and share our needs, and we are personnel to employers who seek our expertise and enterprise. It is for these causes that the community college was created, for these reasons that Cedar has provided opportunities to further an education we may not have otherwise and has supplied us with tools to promote ourselves to the world. Some of us have been here to increase our value to our current employers, some to become more marketable. Yet regardless of our reasons, we have increased our value to ourselves. Some years ago, I spoke with a wise woman whose advice has changed the course of my life countless times. Agonizing over not completing my degree, I was complaining about how difficult it would be to return to academia at my age. I said to her: "Mom, it'll take me 10 years to finish my degree – I'll be 40 years old by then." She simply replied, "In 10 years you'll be 40 anyway."

  • 16. The Bare Bones Of The Set Of Hamilton Essay The bare bones of the set of Hamilton: An American Musical is essentially some scaffolding, stairs, exposed brick, and well placed rope. These seemingly simple elements come together to make an intricate time–lapse through our nations history. The set designer for Hamilton is David Korins. The set looks like the belly of a ship and the bakery from Broadway 's "Sweeny Todd" had a love child. The set floor consists of a painted on wood grain that looks very realistic and rustic. The floor is also composed of two giant turntables within each other. Korins says he did base his design of the set off of old ship building sketches. "Inspired by the Capitol Building's round dome and the dramatic concept of operating theater, Korins quickly landed on an essential component of the "Hamilton" staging: the turntable. As early sketches like the ones above show, Korins' set involves a double turntable arrangement, framed by scaffolding and a second–level catwalk, designed in the style of the ships that brought Alexander Hamilton from the British West Indies to America. The spinning turntable allows the musical to swirl, the choreography and period garb to leap off the stage." (Huffington Post). The use of the turntable reflects the plot because Hamilton literally never stops going, their world is a constant revolving whirlwind. During the intermission the set literally grows as if it in itself is preparing for Hamilton 's ever expanding journey through his life. Korin 's team brings in 8 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Three Different Types Of Conflicts In Short Stories Types of Conflicts in Short Stories Short story writing literature is a very important art and has been around for long time. Every short story will consist of five different elements. These are as follows: Setting, Plot, Character, Point of View and Theme. In this essay, we are going to discuss three of these stories and try to look at them from different perspectives. We will be considering the elements of the stories and how the writers expressed that. We are going to discuss the different phases and changes that each character in these three different stories from the beginning until the end with some highlight on the events and conflicts that lead to these changes. We will start with "A Letter from Gaza" by Ghassan Kanafani, then "After Twenty Years" by O. Henry and last will be "The Scarlet Ibis" by J. Hurst. I will give a summarizing overall conclusion at the end of this essay. Conflict is a major component within the plot element of a story and moves the events. As presented and narrated by Sarah Koenig, the Serial podcast informs readers on the murder of a highschool girl. The year was 1999 and Hae Min Lee, the victim of the crime, was found strangled and buried in Leakin Park. Adnan Syed, Hae's ex boyfriend, was deemed the main suspect responsible for her death. Supposedly, his motive was jealousy and anger caused after Hae had broken up with him in exchange for the companionship of her co worker, Don. Although this wasn't the case, according to Adnan and other people who knew him. Yet Adnan was still tried as guilty, and the foundation for that case was the information ... In the letter it was written, "Dear Adnan–– I hope I spelled it right. I'm not sure if you remember talking to me in the library on January 13, but I remember chatting with you" (Episode 1: The Alibi, Page 18). According to Asia Mcclain, author of the affidavit, Adnan had spoken to her at library when he was supposedly enacting the deed of strangling Hae to death. The contents of the letter as opposed to what was established about the time frame of Hae's death clearly demonstrates that Adnan is innocent, "Quote, "We left around 2:40," unquote. Remember, Hae is supposed to be dead by 2:36" (Episode 1: The Alibi, Page 18). Adnan had spent the time with Asia at the library, being there during the frame of time in which Hae's murder occurred, making it impossible for him to be the killer. • 22. How Has Christianity Impacted My Life Ultimately, it was through the work of the early Church, Christianity had been able to have its magnitude. It makes one wonder, what did they bring up that brought multitudes to Christ? Well, it was a very simple tool that it is in the hand of every believer today–the testimony. Their testimony and our testimony centers around the Resurrection and the transformative power of Christ. Yet, what makes each testimony unique is God's unique plan for everyone's life. Our lives and how God intervened in them provides an avenue for us to relate to the struggles of others showing them that God can change their life too. All my blessings and struggles have been beautifully woven into a testimony that I can share with those that need to hear the Gospel, yet there wouldn't be a testimony if God didn't save my life. ... Throughout the course of one's life, they will experience their coming of age story and mature from it, which can be see in most traditional Bildungsroman stories. Everyone has a different story, but we all have one. Through the use of of a comic utilizing expressionism and single page panels, Matthew's coming of age story shows that people are subject to maturation through big life transitions and racist endeavors in any form of a novel, thereby suggesting harsh situations can help us to become a bigger person in the long run. In life, all people will go through situations that bring them down, but it how we respond to those moments that define us and help mature us. In this comic, the panels of the maturation of the protagonist are in a deliberate sequence, intended to show his maturation. Matthew focused on football when he should have been focusing on his grades instead. Football is an icon for Matthew, which symbolizes his major fantasy. It appears that he wanted to have fun in high school, rather than doing school work. The comic uses scene to scene transitions to show how events occurred in order. On their way back from a restaurant, they stop at a nearby hospital to use the bathroom, but end up being held hostage by some masked men attempting to steal drugs. Overall, I really enjoyed the story because of the plot, the characters, the structure, the writing technique, and the humor. I found the plot to be very entertaining because I like stories about people in danger. In the story, Henry and Olive Kitteridge are just an average old couple who live in New England, and their son has just moved to California. After going out to dinner one night and eating crab meat, Olive demands that Henry stops at the hospital so she can use the restroom, and the nurse insists that Olive get checked out just to be safe. They all end up tied up in the bathroom by two men in masks. I really liked the plot because I feel like there aren't too many stories about old people being held hostage, and I thought it was very creative. I also thought the story had a lot of action in it, which kept me hooked. Although I enjoyed the plot, I also really liked the characters, especially Olive. I thought Olive was a very funny and unique character because of her witty remarks, and because of how dominant she was. For example, I liked when she demanded that Henry pull over, and when he told her to wait she said "Tell my insides"(107) and "Good Lord, Henry. I'm about ready to explode" (107). I thought these remarks were pretty funny, and added a lot to her character. I also liked when she said "Stop the goddamn car" (109) because she knew Henry hated hearing her swear, but she said it anyways to make him mad. I also thought she was funny when the doctor was examining her because she appreciated that the doctor wasn't bored since other doctors made her feel like a "fat lump moving down the conveyer belt" (112). I thought this simile was very funny and showed Olive's personality. Olive's character added a lot to the story because it made the whole story funnier and easier to read. The structure of the story was very interesting and made the story a little more fun to read. I like how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I strongly believe the story would have changed if it had occurred in a different setting because of the important factors, the courtyard, the library and Andy's cell. Firstly, the courtyard where Red does his special trading of contraband items was larger than any prison in England, as said in the book so it's easy for him to trade due to there being enough room for him to deal and get out safely. If book were set in a different prison, Red probably would have the job he had at Shawshank, moreover Andy wouldn't have approached Red for a Rock hammer, rock blankets and/or the countless pin–up queens posters. Secondly, the library where Andy had worked and ran was originally a closet that storage the prison's paint, until Andy proposed to turn it into a library, best prison library at that. If book were set in a different prison, there would probably already be a library in the prison so Andy wouldn't have gone through the struggles and successes of creating Shawshank's library. They are a hunt for photos and videos showing interactions between two idols in order to understand a relationship or refine a story. Unless the group breaks apart, that hunt will never end. In order to observe the interactions, we consume content and stay engaged with that group. In the process, we spend a lot of time and probably money while gaining nothing. Nothing. What do you gain from your OTP? Happiness? Entertainment? Please. We know of better ways. We do not want to here it but here is the truth: Our OTP is an addiction. It will not put us in a hospital, but it does leave damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We engage in a seemingly reciprocal relationship with that group. Of course, this is an illusion. The members of the group do not know us. They have no idea who we truly are. Still, broadcasts feel like we know them better than some of our friends. But we do not. The key idea is that because we feel close to our idols, we regularly consume their content and buy their products. Engagement results in revenue, not a hundred percent, but obviously enough to create entire show buildings. OTPs are one of the ways we keep engaged with a group. Remember, the relationship that we see between two idols is not the whole story. Relationships develop off camera. OTPs exist because we make assumptions about those relationships and project our wishes onto them. However, as OTPs keep us fans engaged, companies actively cultivate them in order to generate revenue. This is why interactions are promoted and not cut. This is why they are predictable. This is why you will never see an OTP fighting. We should be able to identify with our ideas of the OTP. ––––

These themes include loyalty, generosity, reputation, and revenge. Themes are a vital part of a story and Beowulf in particular involves many. Loyalty is an extremely important trait one could have. It involves trust, courage, and willpower. Beowulf sets off to the Danes land and vividly displays his loyalty by fighting off Grendel even when he is against major odds. • 51. Examples Of Suffering In Life Of Pi When considering the story, the "Life of Pi," one begins to understand that one cannot undergo life without suffering, and one cannot encounter suffering without a certain amount of courage, determination, faith, and prayer. In the story, the "Life of Pi," Pi experienced heartache through the death of his family, and underwent much suffering from witnessing the deaths of his mother, the Buddhist, and the cook. Pi also learned from his horrific experience how fragile life is and that one cannot control natural occurrences or change God's plan. Although Pi faced much torment, he never lost his faith in God, nor did he give up on his own life. One of the more interesting ways that Pi described his suffering was through comparing the abnormal behaviors of his fellow escapees to the animals he studied at his family's zoo. Therefore, because of his faith, courage, and determination, he defined himself more clearly than he would have if he had not experienced what he had. When one considers that "one cannot undergo life without suffering," it can seem daunting. One might comment that suffering is full of pain and that one does not need suffering to survive in this life, but one does. One needs to experience suffering to define who each one is as an individual, how one allows suffering to affect their life is up to them. How they scrutinize suffering defines who they are, and what they believe. In the "Life of Pi" Pi defines his suffering as an act of God, he goes on to state that "even in the midst of my suffering, God had not forgotten me." When one hears someone comment, "it is all part of God's plan," their first reaction is either like Pi's when he was a boy: "what kind of Father would sacrifice his own son for the sins of others," or "if there is a God, why would he allow one to suffer?" These two questions are important questions, not only because they compel one to consider one's existence, but also because it begins to define who they are as an individual. One could say that every individual at some point in their life asks this question, and one could credibly argue that it is healthy, but one should be made aware that there is a deeper meaning to life and one can only pray that one day all may learn of ... Domestic Manners of Americans is one of the most hard–hitting, successful novels written by Frances Trollope, displaying themes scattered throughout the book about the United States as seen from a different perspective, from the eyes of a tourist. Frances Trollope resides from England, and in 1827 she made the decision to embark on a journey to America, to see if it really was the land of opportunity. She left with her three children and set off leaving her normal life, and her husband, behind her. What she hoped to find in America was a new life, a new experience, and what she found was a country that was struggling to see the incredible number of problems it held. Slavery, social injustice toward women, and the misuse of religion are all addressed in the novel by Frances Trollope, and she refrains from censoring herself to make sure that it is evident that the United States is not the 'Land of the Free' that Americans think it is. There were many events that occurred in Domestic Manners of Americans that stood out and showed a strong opinion of Trollope's view on them. Frances Trollope set out on an adventure to explore America and the opportunities it holds, but her expectations were crushed when she arrived. When he wakes up, he isn't understanding of how this new body works, Gregor doesn't have any way of already knowing so he has to figure out the functions of this body himself. Everything seems to be an absolute struggle for Gregor, even the simplest tasks evidenced by examples such as "At first he wanted to get out of bed with the lower part of his body, but this lower part (which he incidentally had not yet looked at and which he also couldn't picture clearly) proved itself being too difficult to move" paragraph 11, page 140. Something as basic as turning a section of his body to get out of bed became a challenge he couldn't pass. Rolling into the next category Gregor isn't really able to talk except for a few very forced words right after his metamorphosis. He makes many attempts to talk to his family and servants, but every time he tries all that comes out is a series of incomprehensible slurs that only he can understand. This leads to his family making the assumption that Gregor can no longer understand them either, an unfair call. Primarily at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I love the aesthetics of this name given by my grandmother from the bottom of my heart. Feng, meaning maple, was added because my birthday lacked wood, one of the five elements, according to Chinese traditions. Yue was chosen for the meaning of improve, shine the brightest today, brighter tomorrow. When I was one year old, an ancient ceremony was held for me, where several things lie on the floor with the baby choosing a few, hinting the infant's future. I ended up picking a book and a drawing utensil. how predicting, these two things are now my passions! My parents decided to immigrate to Canada when I was 3 year–old since their business targets the American market. According to my classmates in elementary school, I was a huge trouble maker, who once flipped a table, which sounds exaggerated to me. Two years later, my family returned to China when my grandmother was ill. Due to the different education system in the country, I had to attend grade one again. I was also going to host class at that time, even though I was forced to join, I still tried my best, and won an award. I used to visit my grandfather a lot back in China. At first, I was shy to even talk because of his aloof aura. As I get to know him better, he introduced me to classic literature, my favourite was Les Miserables. • 61. A Different Snow White Story Essay examples Over the years, Snow White's story has been told in numerous different versions then its original version in 1812 by the Grimm Brothers. The main basis of the story has remained the same. Only a few minor tweaks to the story have changed. The three versions of the story that are going to be analyzed are the original story "Little Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" by Disney, and "Mirror, Mirror" by Disney also. They each were created in very different times and the original story has changed over the years to appeal to the audience of that time. He added vivid color and unbelievably real affects and backdrops. In addition to the world visually changing, you also have to keep into consideration the time period it was created. Each of these stories were created in very different times. In 1937, the depression was at its peak and Walt Disney wanted Snow White to help people understand that true love was still possible. He wanted people to be able to relate to Snow White. He dressed her in rags and showed that she still had goodness in her heart even though she was treated badly. The Brothers Grimm wanted to write a story to more or less teach people lessons on life, rather than entertain them on how true love was still possible. And then you have "Mirror, Mirror", which was to encourage the viewers to help others with pure compassion. The appearance of Snow White has not changed over the years. She has remained to be "a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as ebony wood" (Grimm 1884). Although the visible characteristics of her has not changed, the way that it was described has changed. Walt Disney described Snow White as, "lips red as a rose, hair black as ebony, and skin white as snow" (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1937). She is described in the same way in "Mirror, Mirror". • 66. My Career Goals Of Education In High School Education has always been something of great importance now in today's society and for those who are just beginning their journey through high school, it is a great idea to give them advice from seniors. This way they know that high school is not something to be afraid of that instead to be proud of. My education from kindergarten to 12 grade has been filled with emotions as well as new experiences that prepare me for life. Some of which taught me to not be afraid to stand in front of a crowd and to speak my mind. Also speaking of education one of my biggest career goals is to become a pediatrician mostly because kids bring joy to the world they so innocent and to see them become sick is just terrible. I want to become a pediatrician because i like to take care of people and to see them get better is just joy into my world. Freshman are always seen as the underdog's seniors see them as vulnerable but in fact, they are more than that they are stronger than what i thought. When i mentored the freshman i was surprised by their stories the freshman i mentored named Oscar told me he had family members in Mexico city and he has not been able to locate them and he mentioned this has made his high school life difficult. I saw this opportunity to give him advice about the situation he was going through. I told him that he needs to move forward because if he still is living in the past it will begin to hold him back making him not achieve his goal and his response was very mature he ... • 68. Nathaniel Bacon's Slavery And The Consequences Of... Although history makes Nathaniel Bacon seem as he is doing wrong by rebelling, it is important to get the full picture of what really happened. The author writes about Nathaniel Bacon's Rebellion and the aftermath of what happened afterwards. In both of these accounts, the author shows that the colonists and the king fail to see the full picture of the events that occurred. If the king would have seen both side's equally, then Nathaniel Bacon wouldn't have been in the wrong for his actions. This also would be true when the Virginian's were afraid of a massive attack that never took place and was made up. They were deceived just as the king was when he read Berkley's accounts of the events that took place. Nathaniel Bacon is notorious for his rebellion in this story, and is seen as the one who stepped out of line when he rebelled against Berkley. However, Bacon could be seen as the one who saved many Virginian's from a dictator that who was only looking out for himself and took almost complete control of the government in Virginia. If he would have never rebelled the colony of Virginia would have kept being strip of their rights to vote. The fact that Berkley controlled most of the Virginia government is corrupt. Even though the American government wasn't around yet, the colonies were still a place of freedom. People had the right to choose some of their representatives, but still couldn't get rid of the governor who took advantage of his position to gain a lot of wealth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Silent Snow, Secret Snow's use of snow was to show the purity within an imaginary world while Snow's snow was to show purity within love. Silent Snow, Secret Snow use of use was much darker, in sort of a Twilight Zone/Black Mirror type of way. Silent Snow's use of snow was strange to me because it was used counteract with Paul, the story's protagonist's mind on what he thought his fictional world was vs what the real world was. I've spent only thirty minutes to an hour on school work because of the tragic events in my life. I've realized that thirty minutes a day wasn't enough time. I was putting more time into work, trying to stay busy, when school should be my number one job, where I am guaranteed a degree to fulfill an actual career. I feel as if my anxiety is at rest which shows major progress allowing myself to focus and live my life. • 74. The Motivation Of Fear In The Glass Castle The Motivation of Fear What is the driving force for humanity to form civilizations and live in homes? Is it to have a protective structure from the wild? Why do humans act the way they do? Human nature is a natural response to the fear that guides humanity to form the societies we see today. Fear can be defined as an emotional response to possibility of being in danger or being anxious. Thus, the fear of being unprotected from the weather, wild animals or insects, and people we are unfamiliar with has led societies to be built. In the Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls tells a different story of her untraditional upbringing. Jeannette Walls uses events in her past that exemplify this fear to pivot the narrative and keep the reader's attention. From the initial start of story Jeanette choses to recant a memory that displays one of her deepest fears of her early adult life. Jeannette's mother decided to be unemployed and live homeless, while Jeannette attends Barnard College and lives a more luxurious lifestyle. From the very first sentence, "I was sitting in a taxi, wondering if I had overdressed for the evening, when I looked out the window and saw Mom rooting through a Dumpster... It had been months since I laid my eyes on Mom, and when she looked, I was overcome with panic that she'd see me and call out my name, and that someone on the way to the same party would spot us together and Mom would introduce herself and my secret would be out" (Walls 3). • 76. Misery Islands Themes Misery Islands by January O'Neil When I heard January O'Neil read a few of her pieces from Misery Islands, I knew I had to buy the book, and I'm glad I did. If I had to name the theme of this book, I'd have to say it's a mix between pain and growth – and joy and wanting to stay in one place forever. I like the combination because while one piece makes you want to stay in the place January is, and enjoy the moments that are happening, the next piece can make you want to forget. It's not all happy pieces and then all sad pieces: it's realistic with sad and happy pieces mixed together in random places. One minute you're reading You Get Up and the next you're reading Cunt. It's like life. You Are Not Your Salary (pg. 8) is a piece that caught my eye, and I've found that I've read the piece almost every day, or I'm saying it in my head. I interpreted it saying that someone can be everything, they can be everywhere, but they're not the only thing out there. I connected this piece to my Mom in a really strange way. She's the person who gave birth to me, she's the one who raised me (kinda), she's my Mom... but she's not the person I need. This is something I've experienced, and the feelings that come with that experience are executed beautifully. It's like the words I've been needing to say are on the pages in front of me. One thing I found interesting about this book is the fact that in random places, there are facts about different things. For example, on page 31, the word rape is defined, and then a story about the author's childhood is told. It's not poetic in the least, but it almost feels that way because of everything you've read up to that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Theme Of Storytelling In The Things They Carried Storytelling is like opening a window to the mind of the listeners. Stories provide the chance to experience a wide variety of emotions without actually having to go through the situations in which you would feel them. Tim O'Brien uses himself to show us that storytelling and memory can help alleviate burdens over time. Through the book, The Things They Carried, we can take a look at many war stories that Tim tells and how storytelling can get people through the times they never thought they could. He shows this by retelling many stories about the burdens he carries from the war throughout this book. In the text, Tim O'Brien uses, "But this too is true: stories can save us, in a story, miracles can happen" (O'Brien 213–224). Through this, we can infer that stories can mean nothing to some people and mean the world to others. In a story, there might be something said that can remind a person that even though you may have been in a rough situation that you think you'll never be able to recover from, it is possible. I read an article on how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) became a problem far beyond the battlefield. In the article, there was a section that talked about how the soldiers come home from war and don't know how to act in the new environment from were they've been striving for what seemed to be forever. This can cause an unhealthy amount of stress and uncomfortableness on the soldiers because they are going from being with the same group of people under the same rough conditions to returning home and having to try and settle back into a much more relaxed setting than they were used to. This can directly be seen in the article where it says, "Many soldiers will tell you that the hardest things about coming home is learning to sleep without the security of a group of heavily armed men around them" (Junger). When the men come home and tell the memories they have from fighting in the war, it helps them relieve what they've been carrying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characters The story's two major characters are both considered as a stereotype character. Their roles were easily known as the author clearly discussed their parts and physiognomies in the story. The story's protagonist is Maître Hauchecome. He was wrongly accused for stealing a pocketbook with five hundred francs and some business papers. Every time people saw him, they harassed him. He can also be a dynamic character. From being a simple and innocent man, he was suddenly ruined by injustice. Another character is Maître Malandain. Hyperbole "He went home ashamed and indignant, choking with anger and confusion, the more dejected that he was capable, with his Norman cunning, of doing what they had accused him of and ever boasting of it as of a good turn." 5. Flashback was presented when Maître Hauchecome tried to recall the time when Monsieur Malandain was looking at him while he was picking up the piece of string. 2.
