The Effects Of Media On Young Children
Observational Learning & the Young Child
Luciana D. Lavilaire
Florida International University
Prof. Marie Daurel – P. 1
Abstract This paper intends to bring awareness to the harmful effects of the media on young
children. Through this paper, I will investigate the claim that television promotes observational
learning. I will describe the obscenities the media exposes to children. With that, I will explain how
the media causes aggression in consumers, especially those of youth. This paper will also expound
on the powerful effect modeling has on behavior. I will provide extensive examples of the impact of
the media using multiple sources.
Observational Learning & the Young Child Observational learning can be best defined as learning
that occurs through observing the behavior of others. It occurs from observing, retaining, and
reproducing a behavior observed from a model. In order for observational learning to occur, the
observer must regard an action, memorize what was observed, be able to replicate the behavior, and
be motivated to yield the particular behavior. According to Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to
Mind and Behavior, by observing a model, a person may learn a new response, learn to carry out or
avoid previously learned responses, or learn a general rule that can be applied to various situations
(Coon & Mitterer, p. 231). Observational learning can teach completely new behaviors or can affect
the frequency of previously learned

The Importance Of Communication Between Children And Young...
During this time it is important to involve the young person in decisions that are being made
because they have right to decide where they are wanting to stay after the announcement of a

that by a certain time the one parent will have found somewhere else to stay so the young person

Support Children And Young People
Support children and young people to have positive relationships
1.1 Identify the different relationships children and young people may have
There are many different relationships that children develop as they grow, babies know that they cry
to get attention from their parent for food or just a cuddle this is the beginning of learning to build
relationships. Every child and family are different in how they believe relationships should be made
and who children are allowed to talk to or be around so everyone is different when it comes to who
they trust or get along with. Relationships children and young people may have are: parental, carer,
sibling, family, friendship, emotional, acquaintance and professional.
1.2 Explain the importance of positive relationships for development and wellbeing
The quality of relationships that we as practitioners have with children and young people has a huge
effect on the way in which we can work with them and help them. When children feel comfortable
with us they can separate more easily from their parents, they are more likely to participate in the
play and learning activities if they are secure emotionally. When children have a strong relationship
they are less likely to show unwanted behaviour as we can recognise and meet their needs, children's
language may develop more quickly as they feel confident talking to us. Practitioners can plan more
accurately as they understand children's developmental needs and know their interests and what

Explain The Importance Of A Child Or Young Person-Centred...
It is important to safeguard children and young people because no one deserves to be abused
whether it be emotional, physical, sexual abuse and no young person deserves to be neglected and
we have a duty to protect them from harm. Every child deserves to live in peace and have no harm
or abuse come to them. If we protect children from harm they are more likely to grow up into
confident members of society. Children with a disability are three times more likely to experience
abuse and neglect and it's up to us as practitioners to recognise the signs and symptoms to protect all
children. It is important for the children at my workplace to feel safe and protected from any harm
or neglect and we show that we support them though these situations. 2.2. Explain the importance of
a child or young person–centred approach. The importance of young persons centred approach is to
understand that every child is different. The framework of Every Child Matters was arranged and set
up to support the joining up of services to ensure every child can achieve the five Every Child
Matters outcomes. Support is offered to children to enable them to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and
achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well–being. All services are aimed at
young people and are based around each individual needs. Children's wishes should be considered
during decision making to give them a sense of belonging and not to be made to feel as though its
them who's to blame

Training Young People
Details about the young person, including energy needs, protein needs and carbohydrate needs.
It is important for anyone of any age to be eating the right foods; but it is even more important for a
young person. This is because they are growing and their bodies are still developing; sometimes
even up to the age of 25!
Each individual has different energy requirements; these depend on a number of things, such as –
age, gender, height and weight. These requirements can be calculated by using a chart which is
designed to work on an individuality basis.
Here is an example of how this kind of chart would work: The chart I will be using is calculated
using weight and PAL (physical activity levels). This is because; while under a ... Show more

Although I am only training each young person for a few months, this training should leave an
impact on the rest of their life – exercise and nutritional wise. This is why I need to take the time to
explain to them the reasons why exercise and a well–balanced diet are important.
Details about their training plan and what you need to consider when devising a programme for the
young person.
Young people are likely to become bored more quickly than an adult would, so need a different and
more exciting programme. Therefore, I need to create something that is not just a typical gym
routine, but is fun. When training young people, it is important to create a programme that creates
enthusiasm and enjoyment on their part. What would this kind of programme look like?
Being friendly and bubbly and getting to know each individual client, is the secret to setting the
right atmosphere with them. It will help the young person to feel relaxed and also – enthusiastic
about starting their training. I need to try and make it clear that I'm not another teacher telling them
what to do; but am 'partnering' with them to help them to reach their fitness goals.
A good way of designing an appropriate programme is to design it with them! Most children,
especially if they have a creative personality, would really enjoy doing this. It would also give them

The Ethical Considerations Of Children And Young People
Over recent years there has been an increasing approval in Britain and elsewhere that children and
young people should be involved more in decision making which may affect them. Recent years
have seen an increase on the focus of children 's rights which include ways of getting young people
and children involved more directly in decision making that impact their lives. In research terms,
this has been mirrored in a linguistic shift from talking about 'research on ' to research with ' and
now, increasingly, to 'research by ' children and young people (Kimmel, A.J., 1988).
In this essay I will critically discuss the ethical considerations which are to be taken into
consideration when children and young people are involved in research as ... Show more content on

The participation of Children and Young People (CYP) in research is placed within the framework
of an international rights–based framework within which CYP were granted a right to have a say.
Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) states that all
CYP who are competent of forming their own views, have a right to articulate those views freely in
all subjects affecting them.
According to Robert Holmes (2006), the 'power dynamics between adults and children' present an
important obstacle to the collection of high quality evidence from children. Of course, engagement
with children and young people is not always at an individual level. There are a variety of issues to
think about when engaging with young children. Children and young people may be shy around
unfamiliar adults, even at times even afraid, so it is important to find ways of making them feel safe
and secure. Explanations for adults having power over children and young people are willingly
established in materialistic and paternalistic declarations of looking out for the young children's best
interests, which is to protect them from harm. Most people including young children are in
agreement with the involvement of adults is necessary there are however some critics who question
this. Roberts, H. (2008) points out that power dynamics in children's participation are much messier
than is often explicated, and that power isn't something that children

Message to Young People Summary
With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of
a crucified, risen, and soon–coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might
the end come,––the end of suffering and sorrow and sin! How soon, in place of a possession here,
with its blight of sin and pain, our children might receive their inheritance where "the righteous shall
inherit the land, and dwell therein forever"; where "the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick," and "the
voice of weeping shall be no more heard."––"Counsels to Teachers, Parents, and Students," p. 555 .

Many youth receive the impression that their early life is not designed for care–taking, but to be
frittered away in idle sport, in jesting, in joking, and in foolish indulgences. While engaged in folly
and indulgences of the senses, some think of nothing but the momentary gratification connected
with it. Their desire for amusement, their love for society and for chatting and laughing, increases by
indulgence, and they lose all relish for the sober realities of life, and home duties seem
uninteresting. There is not enough change to meet their minds, and they become restless, peevish,
and irritable. These young men should feel it a duty to make home happy and cheerful. . . . pg. 339

Communication and Professional Relationships with Children...
Unit Title: Communication and professional relationships with children young people and adults
OCR Unit 1
1) 1.1 Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children,
young people and adults in all walks of life and at any age whether it be with relatives, friends,
neighbours, colleagues, associates or even total strangers. Also, effective language skills are
essential for children to access the curriculum. In the classroom, spoken language is the main way
that teachers teach and children learn. Therefore if the skill of communicating in an effective
manner isn't learned or grasped at an early age then it could lead to various complications in terms
of interacting with other people, be it in the home or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Say for instance that a child is born in the U.K to parents of a different nationality or is brought up
in a multicultural and diverse community where the use of the English language is influenced by
many different nationalities then communication in a school setting would have to be adapted
further to accommodate these variables.
2.3 The main differences between communicating with adults and communicating with young
people are complexity. When most adults share dialogue they can usually converse without being
conscious about using synonyms and simple sentences to be understood whereas with young people
communicating with simplicity becomes important if it's going to be effective. Vocabulary is another
difference to consider because adults tend to subconsciously communicate at the limits of their
linguistic knowledge but with young people and children, vocabulary needs to be tailored to meet
them at their level. Adults can generally communicate effectively with each other with little or no
detail through the use of body language and non–verbal gestures, however for a young person who
is still developing their communication skills this mode of interaction may not be the most
appropriate depending on the circumstance and setting.
2.4 The need to adapt communication to meet different communication needs of adults depends on
factors such as age, culture, nationality, ethnicity and disability. For

1.3 Analyse how national and local guidelines, policies, and procedures for safeguarding affect day
to day work with children and young people
The Government set out legislation and laws for the safeguarding of children and this is passed on to
organisations on a local level for settings to access on a more personal level. This means the setting
has access to a more tailored support that they might benefit from, as well as working with
professionals who are more familiar with the setting in question.
The Suffolk Safeguarding Board is an informative website where all safeguarding policies and
procedures can be accessed. A setting could use this information as guidelines for writing their own
policies and be certain they are implementing information from a national level for use on the
ground. The list of policies they offer include working with children in need to mental health and
fostering, among many other topics, all under the umbrella of safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
Its aim is to ensure that partner organisations are aware of safeguarding arrangements

Background * Health * Environment Background Children will come from a diverse range of

very young age to late teens and during this time many families will go through significant changes,

Assessment Task – TDA 2.1 Child and Young Person Development Task 2 2.2. Describe with
examples the importance of recognizing and responding to concerns about children and young
people's development. It is essential that anyone working with children can identify if a child is
having problems and might need extra support, this can be achieved through careful observation in
the classroom and playground. If, a teaching assistant or adult in school, were to have any concerns
about a particular child they should initially go to the class teacher and share their thoughts but it is
important that they maintain as much confidentiality as possible and would need to find an
appropriate time to discuss this. This should then be brought up with the pupil's parents in a
sensitive way and at an appropriate time, e.g. parent's evening. Assessment Task – TDA 2.1 Child

The Effects Of Internet On Children And Young People
Practitioners have a responsibility towards children and young people to make them aware of the
dangers which they may face in the outside world. In school, this awareness has historically been
around issues such as road safety, stranger danger and how to treat and respond to others. As well as
being an additional resource, the emergence of the Internet has opened up a wide range of additional
threats to children. As many children now have access to a computer in their own homes it is
important for all children to become familiar with them and be able to use them with ease. E–mail

Although there are now steps being taken in the UK to help protect children and young people such
as Internet filters, these usually have to be requested by parents/carers. If a child is registered as the

E–safety issues include potential dangerous contacts and commercial activities that children can fall
victims to. According to statistics, half of the young people questioned say they have given out
personal information (full names, ages, email address, phone numbers, hobbies or names of their
school) to somebody they met on the Internet. These children can easily be misled by a potential
child groomer who poses as another child of their age from the same area, gaining their trust and
getting close to them. They can become victims without realising as they wrongly believe that they
are chatting to other children because they cannot see who they are chatting to in the online chat
rooms that they use. The intentions of the person masquerading as a child may vary from
downloading personal photos to as far as child trafficking but in any case they pose a great threat to
children.
Statistics also show that only five per cent of parents think their children have given out personal
information on the Internet, showing the

Medicating Young Minds By Jeffrey Kluger Summary
Medicating Young Minds In the article, "Medicating Young Minds", which was published in Time
magazine, dated November 3, 2003, it is stated that using stimulant medication on the youth is
harmful. The article's author, Jeffrey Kluger, states that society must find alternative ways to treat
young people for problems such as; ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, etc. Jeffrey Kluger's
argument is not very persuasive for various reasons: their ill–logical beliefs, their sarcastic tones,
their opinion and lack of fact based information, and their tendency to be biased in their writing. All
of these reasons make it a poor argument over a very important subject.

In giving these success stories he mocks them with a statement belittling the individual for having to
depend on stimulant medication. The authors are clearly not going about the mature way and taking
away from the serious nature of the topic, making the argument more ill–logical. He will state;
children should not take these medications for example; but not give any other alternatives to a
matter that is very prevalent and that effect's many.
The author et al is clearly biased against those who need stimulant medications. It is their feeling
that people should not need to take medication. They state all the reasons they should not partake in
medication but is blind to see all the reasons they may need medication to stabilize their life. Also,
they attempt to give an alternative of therapy for things like depression, or anxiety, which is
sometimes aided by prescription medication. Kluger et al give these alternatives but ignores giving
any other options to medications for ADD or ADHD because there are not any. Another point in his
argument, he will give examples of young people who are successful now with medication, and then
say they should not be using medication. Kluger et al have a negative attitude that is seen through
their writing. The tone of the article is showing enforcing the pessimistic attitude towards stimulant
medication on youth. He does not have fact to prove that is does do damage however, he tells how

When looking at and discussing a child's development, you have to remember that all children are
different and grow at different rates. Every child will follow the same sequence but they may not
necessarily do it at the same time as each other. For example, you could have two, 6 month old
babies, 1 could already be able to crawl, and the other 1 may not have mastered it yet and may not
until they are a bit older. You must remember that your child is an individual and not group him with
another child and expect him/her to reach the milestones at the same time. It is important also that a

The Role Of Policies And Procedures For Children And Young...
This assignment will explain the role of policies and procedures in helping children, young people
and their families.
Policies and procedures are set of guidelines and rules put in place by the government to ensure the
safety of children and young people while they are in care. It is important that anyone working with
children and young people is fully aware of policies and procedures put in place in their setting and
also aware of their role in implementing these policies and procedures. Policies and procedures

The Effects Of Technology On Young People
Introduction
Technology is ever present in the 21st century, and is being used almost everywhere, especially by
young people aged 15–21. This constant exposure to technology in young people could be seen as
harmful to some, especially considering how this could affect the sociality of them. This premise
will be investigated in this piece of research, and concluded as to whether technology, smartphones
specifically, is truly harmful to young people.
How has technology evolved?
Technology has greatly changed over the past 10 years, especially social media and mediums that
young people can communicate on. One of the largest impacts on the sociality of young people was
the introduction of Facebook in 2004. (Elgot, 2015) Facebook is the most influential invention on
young people to this date, changing the way people communicate forever. Facebook has also
introduced a great danger to young people, with research from Pew Research Centre finding that
91% of young people would post a photo of themselves, 71% would post the city or town that they
live in, 50% give their email address, and 20% give their phone number. (Madden, et al., 2013) This
is a great risk on young people, with all their information out for everyone to see, but this is the risk
that young people are willing to take, for the social possibilities that Facebook has to offer.
How has the sociality of young people changed?
The social skills of young people have changed dramatically in the past 10 years from the way

How Parental Divorce Affects A Young Person Essay
I will be focussing on how parental divorce affects a young person aged fifteen to sixteen, I will also
be looking at the things that can be done in order to make it as easy as it can be; as divorce is not an
easy thing for anyone to go through. My two key issues will be the effects of the transition and the
emotional support needed to make it easier. Divorce has many different effects, among the effects is
the possibility of having to move away/ leave friends, having to make new starts, choice of who and
where they are going to live with as well as effects on school work, attendance and exams; there are
also the effects on their well–being as some feel like their whole life is being torn apart in front of
their eyes.
"Every year, over 1 million children under age 18 are involved in a divorce." –
(https://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/fcs/pdfs/fcs482.pdf–)
Effects may vary as no–one reacts to news the same way, young people can sometimes feel confused
because they were unaware of what was happening around them however it can go the other way
with young people becoming very emotional unsure how to process the news; some can even
jeopardize their well–being but are not even aware they are doing it. School can be affected because
of family breakdown, young people can feel that school comes second with what they are facing, so
it means that they could missing out on vital information or tips for their exams leaving them
unprepared. Isolating themselves from the people closest to them

You'll need to change your behaviour and method of communication when establishing respectful,
professional relationships with children and young people. This can be done making yourself more

They may also find it difficult to concentrate and manage during times of excitement therefore you
should be aware of what's going on around them and try to calm the environment down or make
transitional periods flow a lot smoother into the next activity. Remember to stay calm and use a
non–threatening voice and try not to shout. Getting into a routine of capturing their attention by
getting them to follow a pattern of hand clapping is an effective method.

3) A description of how to deal with disagreements between children and young people
Children
Approach them with a calm nature but with authority. Ask each child to explain what happened. To
let them know that you are treating each one fairly by giving both of them a chance to explain what
happened. After hearing what they've had to say and depending on the dispute it may call for you to
explain to them the difference in right and wrong. Alternatively, the dispute may call for apologies.
If that is the case help them to understand why they need to apologies by explaining that if they
were put in the same position as the other person how they would feel.

But at a stage of our youth, we need to lose our sense of naivety to be less puerile and more mature.
At this stage, we have to stop seeing the world as a huge playground and enrol into the school of
maturity. At the school of maturity we need the experience of teachers to guide us. They may be our

Unit 506 Understand Child And Young Person Development
Unit 506 Understand Child and Young Person Development
When looking at and discussing a child's development, you have to remember that all children are
different and grow at different rates. Every child will follow the same sequence but they may not
necessarily do it at the same time as each other. For example, you could have two, 6 month old
babies, 1 could already be able to crawl, and the other 1 may not have mastered it yet and may not
until they are a bit older. You must remember that your child is an individual and not group him with
another child and expect him/her to reach the milestones at the same time. It is important also that a
parent/carer, teacher etc., know the expected sequence a child follows, so they can tell if a child is
falling way behind and they may need to intervene to help them along.
Many skills and areas of development overlap. A child will not be able to learn a physical skill
without the development of their cognitive, social and communication skills as well. The areas of
development may be separated but it is important to remember that they do not work on their own
but together.
The aspects of development are:
* Physical
* Communication and Language
* Cognitive/intellectual
* Social
* Emotional
* Behavioural
* Moral

if they get something wrong, or misbehave, explain what they have done wrong in a positive way

The Influence of Role Models on Young People Essay
Role models have an astounding effect on the lives of young people in our society. A role model has
the ability to shape the views, ideals, and actions of a young person. Role models help youth to
discover how they wish to become in the future. The influence that role models have over young
people is tremendous. It is important for role models to be positive and responsible in instilling good
morals and values because future generations are directly dependent on the role models of today. By
examining the influence of role models, role models in the community, and role models in the

For example, a role model who is a thief may cause a young person to believe that stealing is
acceptable and tolerable, which it is not. Community role models definitely need to step up and take
a more prevalent role in the lives youth.
Role models in the media are also essential for young people. These are idols, actors, athletes,
authors, politicians, revolutionaries or any other person who is known because of their fame. Media
role models have a high influence over young people because they are often placed on a pedestal,
and worshipped like gods. It is important for youth to be wary of negative media role models
because they may glamorize truly wrong values. An example of this is seen if we look at Paris
Hilton. She lives a fascinating and alluring lifestyle, yet was convicted for driving under the
influence of alcohol. Because of her, many other young girls may believe that drinking and driving
is okay, or even cool. Role models in the media are important because of the widespread effect they
have on youth all over the world.
The influence that role models have over young people is vast and great. Role models can affect a
young person's beliefs, or possibly change their entire outlook on life. Young people may want to
imitate the desirable traits they see in role models. Role models can also have an effect on one's
decision–making process. The choices a young person makes in life are directly associated with his

Why It Is Important For Work With The Child Or Young Person?
Task 21. Explain why it is important to work with the child or young person to ensure they have
strategies to protect themselves and make decisions about safety.
Children in school gain academic and other life skills which engages them to understand various
situations including knowledge about health and safety and how to protect themselves from any
possible danger. Teaching staff plays vital role in making them aware about their own safety.
In Early years reading variety of stories where children can relate to the book character can help
them understand what can cause problem to safety or how to solve problems and where and how to
seek the help. Asking questions to make think what went wrong what will you do if you are in such
situations etc. helps them strategize ways to protect themselves. For e.g. after reading a story where
a young girl opens the door to a tiger and the tiger finishes all the food in her house. Asking
questions like who opens the door at your home? If parents are not around should you open the
door? Why you should not open the door? which supports their decision making about safety.
In learning setting teachers can discuss news reports, situations, facts which can inform pupil about
safety and provide opportunities to debate about possible outcomes of similar situations and
different strategies that individual supports. Discussions/debates are perfect to find out various
possible ways to protect themselves.
This also encourages them to trust their

The Importance Of Safeguarding Children And Young People
Task 6. Explain the importance of safeguarding children and young people.
Children and young people are vulnerable in nature. As their journey of life is in initial stages of
development. They lack experience to understand and handle certain situations. Their lives can be
severely affected by the risk, danger and fear from unknown or from people who are considered
closest. If they are not taken care during their childhood, they may suffer from difficult young age
and adulthood.
Victoria Climbie's tragic death highlighted how children are at the risk of being maltreated or
abused. Lord Laming's report covered the possibilities of what can propose danger towards children.
It is not enough just keeping children safe from harm/danger or being bullied, but at the same time
they should be able to enjoy their childhood, gain life skills, accept challenges and achieve to make
their adulthood successful.

Traditionally, my knowledge of child development and ways of working with clients has always
been influenced by psychiatric and psychological knowledge. Though this can be useful, it can also
be problem–based as it categorises the clients and their needs (Milner and Bateman 2011).
Having had a problem–based approach, this made it challenging and difficult for me in the first two
sessions. However, having carefully observed, as a result of this I have started to gain interest in the
solution focused approaches due to its brief nature and how much it focuses on solutions rather than
the actual problem.
In session three, this week I was able to notice the importance of this approach as we were put in
groups of three, me being the interviewer and the other two being the interviewee and a consultant.
This did

The Effects Of Media On Young Children

  • 1. The Effects Of Media On Young Children Observational Learning & the Young Child Luciana D. Lavilaire Florida International University Prof. Marie Daurel – P. 1 Abstract This paper intends to bring awareness to the harmful effects of the media on young children. Through this paper, I will investigate the claim that television promotes observational learning. I will describe the obscenities the media exposes to children. With that, I will explain how the media causes aggression in consumers, especially those of youth. This paper will also expound on the powerful effect modeling has on behavior. I will provide extensive examples of the impact of the media using multiple sources. Observational Learning & the Young Child Observational learning can be best defined as learning that occurs through observing the behavior of others. It occurs from observing, retaining, and reproducing a behavior observed from a model. In order for observational learning to occur, the observer must regard an action, memorize what was observed, be able to replicate the behavior, and be motivated to yield the particular behavior. According to Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to Mind and Behavior, by observing a model, a person may learn a new response, learn to carry out or avoid previously learned responses, or learn a general rule that can be applied to various situations (Coon & Mitterer, p. 231). Observational learning can teach completely new behaviors or can affect the frequency of previously learned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time it is important to involve the young person in decisions that are being made because they have right to decide where they are wanting to stay after the announcement of a divorce, this is done by involving the young person in talks about what is now going to happen but it is also important to discuss what is going to happen over the period time so that they can understand that by a certain time the one parent will have found somewhere else to stay so the young person with have the addresses so they are able to visit so that there is no lack of communication between the children and their parents: however when trying to ensuring the young person welfare, residence will often look at the wish of the young person yet they also ... • 5. Support Children And Young People Support children and young people to have positive relationships 1.1 Identify the different relationships children and young people may have There are many different relationships that children develop as they grow, babies know that they cry to get attention from their parent for food or just a cuddle this is the beginning of learning to build relationships. Every child and family are different in how they believe relationships should be made and who children are allowed to talk to or be around so everyone is different when it comes to who they trust or get along with. Relationships children and young people may have are: parental, carer, sibling, family, friendship, emotional, acquaintance and professional. 1.2 Explain the importance of positive relationships for development and wellbeing The quality of relationships that we as practitioners have with children and young people has a huge effect on the way in which we can work with them and help them. When children feel comfortable with us they can separate more easily from their parents, they are more likely to participate in the play and learning activities if they are secure emotionally. When children have a strong relationship they are less likely to show unwanted behaviour as we can recognise and meet their needs, children's language may develop more quickly as they feel confident talking to us. Practitioners can plan more accurately as they understand children's developmental needs and know their interests and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Explain The Importance Of A Child Or Young Person-Centred... It is important to safeguard children and young people because no one deserves to be abused whether it be emotional, physical, sexual abuse and no young person deserves to be neglected and we have a duty to protect them from harm. Every child deserves to live in peace and have no harm or abuse come to them. If we protect children from harm they are more likely to grow up into confident members of society. Children with a disability are three times more likely to experience abuse and neglect and it's up to us as practitioners to recognise the signs and symptoms to protect all children. It is important for the children at my workplace to feel safe and protected from any harm or neglect and we show that we support them though these situations. 2.2. Explain the importance of a child or young person–centred approach. The importance of young persons centred approach is to understand that every child is different. The framework of Every Child Matters was arranged and set up to support the joining up of services to ensure every child can achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes. Support is offered to children to enable them to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well–being. All services are aimed at young people and are based around each individual needs. Children's wishes should be considered during decision making to give them a sense of belonging and not to be made to feel as though its them who's to blame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Training Young People Details about the young person, including energy needs, protein needs and carbohydrate needs. It is important for anyone of any age to be eating the right foods; but it is even more important for a young person. This is because they are growing and their bodies are still developing; sometimes even up to the age of 25! Each individual has different energy requirements; these depend on a number of things, such as – age, gender, height and weight. These requirements can be calculated by using a chart which is designed to work on an individuality basis. Here is an example of how this kind of chart would work: The chart I will be using is calculated using weight and PAL (physical activity levels). This is because; while under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An active young person should be following a diet in which 50 – 55% of their calories are coming from carbohydrates. Although I am only training each young person for a few months, this training should leave an impact on the rest of their life – exercise and nutritional wise. This is why I need to take the time to explain to them the reasons why exercise and a well–balanced diet are important. Details about their training plan and what you need to consider when devising a programme for the young person. Young people are likely to become bored more quickly than an adult would, so need a different and more exciting programme. Therefore, I need to create something that is not just a typical gym routine, but is fun. When training young people, it is important to create a programme that creates enthusiasm and enjoyment on their part. What would this kind of programme look like? Being friendly and bubbly and getting to know each individual client, is the secret to setting the right atmosphere with them. It will help the young person to feel relaxed and also – enthusiastic about starting their training. I need to try and make it clear that I'm not another teacher telling them what to do; but am 'partnering' with them to help them to reach their fitness goals. A good way of designing an appropriate programme is to design it with them! Most children, especially if they have a creative personality, would really enjoy doing this. • 12. The Ethical Considerations Of Children And Young People Over recent years there has been an increasing approval in Britain and elsewhere that children and young people should be involved more in decision making which may affect them. Recent years have seen an increase on the focus of children 's rights which include ways of getting young people and children involved more directly in decision making that impact their lives. In research terms, this has been mirrored in a linguistic shift from talking about 'research on ' to research with ' and now, increasingly, to 'research by ' children and young people (Kimmel, A.J., 1988). In this essay I will critically discuss the ethical considerations which are to be taken into consideration when children and young people are involved in research as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participation of Children and Young People (CYP) in research is placed within the framework of an international rights–based framework within which CYP were granted a right to have a say. Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) states that all CYP who are competent of forming their own views, have a right to articulate those views freely in all subjects affecting them. According to Robert Holmes (2006), the 'power dynamics between adults and children' present an important obstacle to the collection of high quality evidence from children. Of course, engagement with children and young people is not always at an individual level. There are a variety of issues to think about when engaging with young children. Children and young people may be shy around unfamiliar adults, even at times even afraid, so it is important to find ways of making them feel safe and secure. Explanations for adults having power over children and young people are willingly established in materialistic and paternalistic declarations of looking out for the young children's best interests, which is to protect them from harm. Most people including young children are in agreement with the involvement of adults is necessary there are however some critics who question this. Roberts, H. (2008) points out that power dynamics in children's participation are much messier than is often explicated, and that power isn't something that children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Message to Young People Summary With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon–coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might the end come,––the end of suffering and sorrow and sin! How soon, in place of a possession here, with its blight of sin and pain, our children might receive their inheritance where "the righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever"; where "the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick," and "the voice of weeping shall be no more heard."––"Counsels to Teachers, Parents, and Students," p. 555 . Their desire for amusement, their love for society and for chatting and laughing, increases by indulgence, and they lose all relish for the sober realities of life, and home duties seem uninteresting. Unit Title: Communication and professional relationships with children young people and adults OCR Unit 1 1) 1.1 Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults in all walks of life and at any age whether it be with relatives, friends, neighbours, colleagues, associates or even total strangers. Also, effective language skills are essential for children to access the curriculum. In the classroom, spoken language is the main way that teachers teach and children learn. Therefore if the skill of communicating in an effective manner isn't learned or grasped at an early age then it could lead to various complications in terms of interacting with other people, be it in the home or ... Say for instance that a child is born in the U.K to parents of a different nationality or is brought up in a multicultural and diverse community where the use of the English language is influenced by many different nationalities then communication in a school setting would have to be adapted further to accommodate these variables. 2.3 The main differences between communicating with adults and communicating with young people are complexity. When most adults share dialogue they can usually converse without being conscious about using synonyms and simple sentences to be understood whereas with young people communicating with simplicity becomes important if it's going to be effective. Vocabulary is another difference to consider because adults tend to subconsciously communicate at the limits of their linguistic knowledge but with young people and children, vocabulary needs to be tailored to meet them at their level. Adults can generally communicate effectively with each other with little or no detail through the use of body language and non–verbal gestures, however for a young person who is still developing their communication skills this mode of interaction may not be the most appropriate depending on the circumstance and setting. 2.4 The need to adapt communication to meet different communication needs of adults depends on factors such as age, culture, nationality, ethnicity and disability. If, a teaching assistant or adult in school, were to have any concerns about a particular child they should initially go to the class teacher and share their thoughts but it is important that they maintain as much confidentiality as possible and would need to find an appropriate time to discuss this. This should then be brought up with the pupil's parents in a sensitive way and at an appropriate time, e.g. parent's evening. Assessment Task – TDA 2.1 Child and Young Person Development Task 3 3.1. These children can easily be misled by a potential child groomer who poses as another child of their age from the same area, gaining their trust and getting close to them. They can become victims without realising as they wrongly believe that they are chatting to other children because they cannot see who they are chatting to in the online chat rooms that they use. Medicating Young Minds By Jeffrey Kluger Summary Medicating Young Minds In the article, "Medicating Young Minds", which was published in Time magazine, dated November 3, 2003, it is stated that using stimulant medication on the youth is harmful. The article's author, Jeffrey Kluger, states that society must find alternative ways to treat young people for problems such as; ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, etc. Jeffrey Kluger's argument is not very persuasive for various reasons: their ill–logical beliefs, their sarcastic tones, their opinion and lack of fact based information, and their tendency to be biased in their writing. The author et al is clearly biased against those who need stimulant medications. It is their feeling that people should not need to take medication. They state all the reasons they should not partake in medication but is blind to see all the reasons they may need medication to stabilize their life. Also, they attempt to give an alternative of therapy for things like depression, or anxiety, which is sometimes aided by prescription medication. Kluger et al give these alternatives but ignores giving any other options to medications for ADD or ADHD because there are not any. Another point in his argument, he will give examples of young people who are successful now with medication, and then say they should not be using medication. This constant exposure to technology in young people could be seen as harmful to some, especially considering how this could affect the sociality of them. This premise will be investigated in this piece of research, and concluded as to whether technology, smartphones specifically, is truly harmful to young people. How has technology evolved? Technology has greatly changed over the past 10 years, especially social media and mediums that young people can communicate on. One of the largest impacts on the sociality of young people was the introduction of Facebook in 2004. (Elgot, 2015) Facebook is the most influential invention on young people to this date, changing the way people communicate forever. Facebook has also introduced a great danger to young people, with research from Pew Research Centre finding that 91% of young people would post a photo of themselves, 71% would post the city or town that they live in, 50% give their email address, and 20% give their phone number. (Madden, et al., 2013) This is a great risk on young people, with all their information out for everyone to see, but this is the risk that young people are willing to take, for the social possibilities that Facebook has to offer. How has the sociality of young people changed? The social skills of young people have changed dramatically in the past 10 years from the way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Parental Divorce Affects A Young Person Essay I will be focussing on how parental divorce affects a young person aged fifteen to sixteen, I will also be looking at the things that can be done in order to make it as easy as it can be; as divorce is not an easy thing for anyone to go through. My two key issues will be the effects of the transition and the emotional support needed to make it easier. Divorce has many different effects, among the effects is the possibility of having to move away/ leave friends, having to make new starts, choice of who and where they are going to live with as well as effects on school work, attendance and exams; there are also the effects on their well–being as some feel like their whole life is being torn apart in front of their eyes.
