Editor's Notes

  1. Our focus at a limitednumber of core markets leads to a thoroughunderstanding of the customers' situation and to long-termrelationships with ourcustomers and partners.
  2. The business landscape is being transformed by a revolutionPlenty of new challenges for business and ICT decision takersBuzzwords in today’s market include e.g.:- Bring your own device (BYOD): people want to have the possibility to work anytime, anyplace, in a secure way, on the device of their choice (PCs,smartphones, tablets, …), and combine personal and company data. That’s a challenge for IT departments, requiring practical knowledge and insight into several aspects of ICT, including infrastructure management, identity and acces management, mobile applications, …Omnichannel: customers are hopping across multiple channels – the challenge is how to catch them and keep them. Your customer wants your attention via different channels: personal contact, telephone, e-mail, chat, on his social network or on e-mail. He wants these channels to be connected seamlessly, and he wants the freedom to choose the channel that suits him best at a given point in time.Platform renovation: The increasing speed and scope of change in business is demanding corresponding changes to your IT infrastructure. To drive competitive advantage and add value to your entire business network, you must evolve your existing IT infrastructure into a more flexible environment that avoids work redundancies and reduces complexity.Big data: organizations demand insight into business operations as – not after – they happen, in order to react quickly to changing market conditions. The volume of operational data available for business insight, however, often exceeds the amount of data that traditional diskbased systems can process within a reasonable time. The result is inadequate access to the full spectrum of information needed and unacceptable lag times between gathering data and having insight into that data. What if a retail organization had the power to analyze purchase orders in real time to manage production more accurately and avoid problems such as overstock? Or how important is it for a utility company to combine internal planning metrics with real-time consumption statistics from smart meters, integrated with key weather data, to ensure that business and residential rates are optimized continuously?Connect and convert: Marketeers and communication experts try to find out how to communicate with customers who prefer to help themselves using the internet. How can one put people in contact with brands, and subsequently convert that contact into a profitable and durable relationship – while the competition is only one click away? How do you turn passers-by into customers, and customers into ambassadors? Everything should be measurable: if you do not measure, you will not be able to improve your results. Consumerization: People are increasingly bringing the smartphones, tablets and other devices they use ubiquitously in their personal lives into the workplace and expecting the same kind of rich, self-service experience they have at home. This "consumerization" is driving rapid change in business and IT, dissolving the lines between work and play, the office, home or somewhere in between. These kinds of challenges exceed the level of mere technologies and vendor solutions. They require a long term vision on what drives customers and businesses, and the ability to combine various disciplines and knowledge areas. Ordina brings together visions, competences and solutions in dedicated competence centers: User Experience, Mobile, UCC, Software Factory, Data & Information, and Virtualization & Cloud.TechnologiesClockwork: a 100% Ordina daughter. Communication agency, focusing on online interaction and user experience.- Sybase: SAP company, an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software to manage, analyze and mobilize information. Sybase is recognized globally as a performance leader, proven in the most data-intensive industries and across all major systems, networks and devices. Their solutions have powered some of the most mission-critical systems in financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing and government.Microsoft:Adam Software: develops media intelligent software for creating, managing and distributing digital assets. For organizations handling large quantities of digital assets - product images, brochures, marketing materials, videos - providing controlled access to a centralized library of digital assets for users worldwide can be complex.Adam provides a solution that can efficiently organize and distribute digital assets, provide user-permission controls and make the process of preparing and deploying assets for publication as seamless as possible. ReferencesKomatsu:Distriplan:Agfa: Agfa Graphics is active worldwide in the imaging technology market. They decided in 2006 to implement SAP as ERP-package for the department Global Services. The technical department (installations, preventive maintenance, repair on-site and remote) as well as the expert services (training, consulting) were part of the project scope. A web application was developed for field service engineers, enabling them to efficiently carry out their duties from any location in Europe. A Webdynpro (& Adobe) application was developed and integrated with the SAP back-end system via the SAP Portal.Delta Lloyd:VLM: At the end of 2006, Vlaamse Landmaatschappij (VLM) decided that from then on it would develop all new applications on one platform. The motive: efficiency. As if that challenge was not difficult enough, VLM was opting for an architecture of which its own knowledge was limited. Although only two of its 24 developers already had any experience with .Net, VLM opted for the .Net Framework. Ordina got the innovation project underway. A study defined the future application architecture and development standards. A migration roadmap described the current and desired situations and the path for closing the gap. Setting up a software factory was given a key role in this. Ordina looked after the planning and coaching the team, introduced a methodology for the project management, and scrutinised the team’s organisation.VRT:PSA:Nike: The BI consultants of Ordina are part of the Nike BI team. The team applies the Agile methodology to collect the requirements and make the appointments with the business (sprint meetings, SCRUM, …). An optimisation project was started to make the IT environment ready for the migration to SAP. The new infrastructure us based on an IBM BladeCenter, VMware ESX and Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Services. A new IBM BladeCenter S was equipped with 6 IBM HS22 blades and central storage. A fully redundant Vmware ESX 4.1 platform was constructed on these blades. The necessary Windows 2008 R2 components were placed on this new platform on a redundant basis. Thus, there are 2 domain controllers, 2 File and Print servers with DFS and 2 Remote Desktop Services machines. The regional service centres and remote workers connect to the environment via a secure channel through the newly installed Remote Desktop Services Gateway.Deknudt Frames: Deknudt Frames NV is a family ran business specialized in production and distribution of photo frames and profiles with a motivated team of 130 people. In order to cope with the growth of the company and its activities in Belgium and Slovakia, they implemented an ERP system and renewed their entire IT infrastructure. New server hardware and SAN storage was implemented next to the existing environment. On top of this new hardware layer, server virtualisation was enabled and the Windows Active Directory domain was migrated to a newer version. Because Deknudt Frames wanted to keep its central management approach, a new Citrix XenApp Farm was configured which included their business applications. Exchange 2010 was chosen as new communication platform to enable easy mail access with mobile devices such as BlackBerry.BARC: BARC has several biological research groups in B and the US that handle and research trial data in the pharma sector. The user community consists of 500 end-users. BARC used an open-source e-mail environment and managed all its business and research data & documentation within public folders in their e-mail environment. 500 GB of data is stored and handled this way, resulting in bad e-mail performance and inefficient document management. Ordina has guided BARC through the transition to an improved to-be situation incorporating two innovative solutions: e-mail migration to the cloud (Exchange Online/BPOS) and data migration (public folders) to SharePoint 2010 (on-premise).
