8. Long before, before the
Spaniards colonized the
Archipelago, the natives used
bladed weapons as a sort of
self defense and applies
different techniques in
executing them.
9. Ferdinand Magellan was the
first foreigner who became
a fatality of the fighting
skills of the natives in Cebu,
when he confronted Lapu-
lapu in the battle of Mactan

11. Later on, when the Spaniards
colonized the Archipelago, they tried
to suppress the ancient martial arts,
saying that such practice is a waste of
time and instead must one have to
tend the fields, but the truth is that
they were afraid of the martial arts
skills of the natives using bladed
weapons.

not stop in enhancing their
skills, so to hide from the
Spaniards, they replaced
their bladed weapons with
sticks thus the arts of Arnis
came to life.
