The virtual communication
Advantages
Internet offer the advantage of instant information exchange that is not possible
in a real-life. This allows people to engage in many activities from their home,
as: shopping, paying bills, and searching for specific information. Users of
internet also have access to thousands of specific discussion groups where
they can form relationships and access information as: politics, technical
assistance, social activities, and recreational pleasures. Virtual communities
provide an ideal medium for these types of relationships because information
can easily be posted and response times can be very fast. Users can give and
receive support, and it is simple and cheap to use.
Disadvantages
The instant communication means fast access, it mean that information is
posted without being reviewed for correctness. It is difficult to choose reliable
sources because there is no editor that reviews each post and makes sure it is
reliable and safe.
Identities can be kept anonymous online so it is common for people to use the
internet to live out a fantasy as another type of person. Users should be wary of
where information is coming from online and be careful to double check facts
with professionals.
Information online is different from information discussed in a real-life because it
is permanently online. Users must be careful what information they disclose
about themselves to ensure they are not easily identifiable, for safety reasons.
FACEBOOK
History
Facebook is a free web site social networks created by Mark Zuckerberg
founded by Eduardo Saverin, Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz Mark
Zuckerberg. Originally a site for Harvard University students, but now is open to
anyone with an email account. Users can participate in one or more social
networks in relation to their academic status, place of work or geographic
region.
Facebook has received much attention in the blogosphere and the media to
become a platform on which third parties can develop applications and do
business from the network. However, there is concern about possible business
model, since the results in advertising have proved to be very poor.

Website
Users can create profiles with photos, lists of personal interests, contact
information and other personal information. Communicating with friends and
other users can be done through private or public messages or with a chat
feature. Users can also create and join interest groups and "like pages", some
of which are maintained by organizations as a means of advertising.
Facebook enables users to choose their own privacy settings and choose who
can see what parts of their profile. The website is free to users and generates
revenue from advertising, such as fashion clothing ads. Facebook requires a
user’s name and profile picture to be accessible by everyone. Users can control
who sees other information they have shared, as well as who can find them in
searches, through their privacy settings.
