This document outlines the goals and expectations for a course on education and technologies at Saint Joseph University. The goal is to understand how to use computer and internet technologies to improve learning. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of how technology can enhance education. Specific topics covered include the learning management system Moodle, web 2.0 tools, blended learning, mobile learning, and assessment. Students will present on a web 2.0 tool and create a Moodle lesson. Optional assignments include submitting a paper for a conference or developing a thesis topic on an education technology issue. Possible thesis topics focus on using social networks in schools, the role of future educators, and impacts of technologies like mobile learning, blogs and more.

You are expected to choose a topic that you currently/would like to teach or have
taught in the past, and create a Moodle (http://download.moodle.org/) Lesson that
incorporates the use of education technology as long as it addresses the
following questions:
 What is the scope of the topic and what learning outcomes for students do you
have?
 What pedagogic approach will the lesson plan be founded on and how will
demographic and other learning characteristics of the students be
considered?
 What learning media and other technology materials will be provided to
students to supplement classroom work to support better learning?
 What criteria (rubrics, tests, presentations…) will you use to assess the
performance of students taking the course?
