• What are your observations about change in methodology of the
research???????
My Take:
Research has got marginal
Increased Competition
Application specific Research
Industrial Research
The Problems of Era
• What we plan to do is already done.
• The ideas are already implemented.
• Lack of innovations.
• The chance of improvement in existing technology is marginal.
Solutions to Marginal Research
• The emphasis on literature survey
• Application specific Research
• Interdisciplinary Research
• Industry Research
• Terrain Specific Research
• What do you think, number of Ph.D. Students globally increased or
decreased????
• If number of candidates for Ph.D. has increased, it has increased the
competition.
• Increased competition in research didn’t lead to quality research just
quantity of the research is increased.
• So what to do?????
• What is your research topic??
• Whether your research converges on applications??
• Whether it is completely innovative topic or improvement
In existing.
• Suggest few more topics that are not relevant to your topic but
sounds passionate to you?? (You can atleast mention major of the
topics) My take for latest computer Science Topics
Cloud Computing
Network Security
Protocol stack development
Data mining
Software models
Image/video/audio Processing
• Multi Disciplinary (Science of interaction)
• Interdisciplinary (Science of integration)
• Transdisciplinary (Science of Hybridization)
Discipline A Discipline B
Discipline A
Discipline B
Group A Group B
• All the topics for computer science has no meaning until it is defined
for particular application.
• The inclusion of application part drives need of interdisciplinary
research.
• Interdisciplinary research never means research topic with
involvement of two branches.
• It may have two different topics from computer science.
• The example is Network stack protocol development using Visual
Basic based simulation requires knowledge of two disciplines i.e.
networking and programming skills.
• Biometrics
• Biomedical + Computation
• Digital Arts
• Humanities + Information technology
• Digital Evolution or Digital organism
• Evolutionary planet science + Information Technology
• High-Assurance Systems using Computer Engineering
• Real world problem driven + Computer Engineering for failure
• monitoring
• Ultra Large Scale software initiative systems
• Electronics + Computer Science
• Firmware Design
• Electronics + Computing
• Wireless Networks
• Computers Science + Electronics
• Image Processing/ Video Processing
• Statistical mathematics + Computation
• Academic research has no fixed vision. In industry research target is
predefined.
• Academic research was said to be virtual research while industry research
is for real time world.
• Academic researcher needs to work without special training of particular
subject. Industrial research is done by trained researchers.
• Academic research includes maximum of two scholars working on same
project. Industry research is team work.
• Academic research may not be delivering end product. Industry research
includes delivery of end product. So academic research conventionally may
not include interdisciplinary research while industry research is successful
for its virtue of interdisciplinary research.
• environmental restoration
• organic farming
• rural development
• education
• health
• renewable energy
• appropriate building technologies
• innovative urban planning
• arts and culture.
• Advantage
• Provides Confidence in complex problems.
• Real world problems require integrated approach
• Industry research requires interdisciplinary knowledge.
• Interdisciplinary research makes intellectuals better.
• Disadvantage
• Lack of confidence in secondary disciplines
• Defensive for own discipline.
• Crossing the boundaries are never easy.
• Lack of resources and intermidiaries.
Be trendy go global
