2. Black Carbon(BC) & Organic carbon (OC)
• BC & OC are Component of particulate matter.
• Small ultrafine & light-absorbing graphitic
particles less than PM2.5μm produced by
incomplete combustion.
• BC & OC is mainly comes from vechile engines,
industrial smokestacks , burning of wood &
cow dung for residential cooking etc.
3. Climatic Impacts of BC & OC
• Warming Agent : BC significantly contributes to warming by
directly absorbing sunlight and by darkening ice and snow
• Cooling Agent : OC is reflecting incoming sunlight
• Short-lived : immediate climate benefits of BC & OC
mitigation are possible due to its short atmospheric lifetime
(days to weeks)
• Spatially : BC & OC influence is regional than global scale
4. Health Effects of BC Pollution
• As a report by WHO in 2009 , it has linked
breathing to a series of significant health
problems, including:
Aggravated asthma
Increases in respiratory symptoms like coughing
and difficult or painful breathing
Chronic bronchitis
Decreased lung function
Premature death in people with heart and lung
disease

EMISSION FACTOR FOR BC AND OC
DATA REQUIRED FOR ESTIMATION BC & OC

8. CALCULATION
Formula Applied,
(No. Of vechicles × VKT) ÷ Avarage milege = Fuel consumption (Kg)
Then ,
Fuel consumption × Emission factor = Total BC or OC for 1 day(Gg/Day)
Then,
Total BC or OC for 1 day(Gg/day) × 365 = Total BC or OC for 1 year(Gg/yr)
After calculation we get that ,
Total BC For Year = 1.99 Gg/yr
Total OC For Year = 2.19 Gg/yr
9.
10.
11. •BC contributes majorly in highways and other major
roads and total OSCR is around 1.99 Gg/Yr.
•While that of OC in residential areas and major roads
and total is around 2.19 Gg/Yr.
RESULTS AND FINDINGS
12. CONCLUSION
• Not only the registered vehicles OSCR are
contributing to the BC and OC emission but
also the vehicular population from the
surroundings which play through the highways
and major roads especially the high emitting
vehicles are responsible for the BC and OC
emission in OSCR which is indicated through
the GIS based gridded map.
