Malcolm X describes an early time in his life when he lived in the "ghetto" and took part in
activities that included gambling and drug dealing. He connects those experiences with nationwide
issues at the time: racism, discrimination, and inequality. Growing up, Malcolm had always noticed
how people of the white race had a substantial amount of advantages in life. Most things seemed to
work in their favor. For those of the darker race, the amount of opportunities they had was not the
same; just by their appearance and color, they had immediately been placed at the bottom of society
from birth and there was no possible way to rise up.

I Am A Math Lesson Essay
For my second lesson, I decided to conduct a math lesson as I had never conducted a math lesson in
an elementary classroom let alone a 3rd grade classroom. I discussed with my CT what math
concept I could teach that pertained to one of the 3rd grade standards. My CT told me that I could
introduce the new concept of area to the class on the Friday that I was supposed to teach my lesson.
I knew that that introducing a new topic on a Friday in an elementary classroom was not ideal as the
majority of teachers that I have observed in the past usually wrap up their week's lessons on Friday.
The Friday I was conducting my lesson was also a shorten day due to Fall Break, so I thought the
students would show some off task behavior for the early release day. These circumstances made me
think hard about how I was going to introduce the concept of area to the students in an effective
way. I knew that I needed to have a lesson that included an exploratory hands– on activity to keep
the students engaged and wanting to learn. Therefore, I decided to use cheese crackers as
manipulatives to represent square units. The students were to first guess what the area of the
different shapes in a worksheet packet were and then they were to use the crackers to figure out the
actually area of the different shapes. I had been grading the students' weekly math quizzes that

This essay closely reflects upon and evaluates two lessons taught within SE1. The school in which
these lessons were taught is a primary academy, which size is larger than average. The majority of
pupils are white British pupils but ethnic minorities are consistently increasing; the amount of EAL

However, differentiation is very important in helping children to become motivated and reach their
potential (Pollard, 2000) as children feel both sufficiently challenged yet are still able to complete
the work set. Although this view is currently being questioned within current reports as a new set of
pedagogy comes into place in some schools within mathematics entitled mastery, suggesting that
differentiation is becoming obsolete in mathematics for those who follow this program, as it
suggests the whole class to learn the same content at the same rate (NCETM, 2015).
The first lesson highlighted is a mathematics lesson taught within a streamed class, the lesson
revolved around perimeter (appendix 2). Differentiation within this lesson was a weak area,
although it was attempted. The dominant use of differentiation within this lesson was through
choice, as shown in the mathematics plan (appendix 2) children were given a choice of two
activities. They were able to choose which activity they felt they could do. This was inspired by
research stating, "If students are given choice, they challenge themselves more than teachers do"
(TES, 2012) this suggests that a higher level of challenge may be created for some children who
were perhaps usually given the average ability group work could now challenge themselves if they

Students Should Be A Preset Learning Position Essay
First, students should be in a preset learning position in which they have greater attention and
openness to the explanations and instructions. After presenting the learning objective, the material
available and expected products, the student participation is requested to do a review about concepts

Tablets: A New Force Taking Over the Classroom
Discovering what is the best possible way for students to learn is the constant topic professors and
dean's are discussing. How can my students better understand the material ,how can I make this
course more interesting and what can I do to improve my teaching skills, these are just some of the
questions professors ask themselves on a daily basis. The way of teaching with textbooks has
always been the traditional method, but seems to never change. The lessons are the same and
students are constantly hearing the same lectures time and time again. Discussions that are not
appealing quickly lose the focus of students and therefore they are not receiving the information

My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards...
My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher
to help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher
include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to
work on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the
time I have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been
achieved before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my
previous goals to make them even stronger qualities.
My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time
management when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble
with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to
teach a lesson, I may take thirty–five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my
lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build
off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help of other students or
myself.
Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement.
My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being
within 2 minutes under or over.

The Video Of The Lesson
Lesson Analysis
After reviewing the video of the lesson I recorded and analyzing the results, I feel very positive
about the lesson outcomes. Prior to the start of this lesson, each student completed the pre–
assessment. Students were then placed in groups based on their readiness level. This assessment
displayed the need for differentiation during small group instruction. To begin the lesson I brought
in a stuffed chicken to use as a tool to introduce the concept of using digraphs. This activity seemed
to start on a positive note. The students were excited and seemed eager to learn. While I was
discussing the "ch" digraph found in the word "chicken" the students seemed to be fully attentive. I
was impressed as to how well they were listening. During guided practice, as a whole group the
students practiced using digraphs and learned the sounds they make using the website
kidspiration.com on the Smart Board. The students were actively engaged during this activity. It was
apparent they enjoyed the integration of technology within the lesson. They then participated in a
digraph picture sorting activity. It was fun to see students the students working collaboratively with
each other to sort the pictures. After reflecting on this portion of the lesson, I feel this is an area in
need of improvement. I feel it would have been more effective to break students up into smaller

Reflection On The First Texans Lesson Plan
I am going to use The First Texans lesson plan. I will ask the students to use some of the questions
from The First Texans. Some questions will be taken out, so it pertains more to the culture. Once the
students finish the activity I will then tell them to go home find out what their culture is. Then the
next week dress up in what the people in their culture would wear. The students will then figure out
what their relatives lives where like and they learn where they came from. I would call up the dad of

like having students rap, find vocabulary, and bring in a guess speaker, can show them different
learning styles. It is important for a student to be subjected to different learning styles because we
all learn differently. The strategies I used in the lesson plan to make it culturally diverse is making it

Reflective Philosophy In Education
Throughout my education, I had the benefit of attending fifteen different schools in various
locations in the United States. This provided me with the opportunity to experience a variety of
teaching methods and philosophies utilized by educators. Also, my son attended eight different

My Microteaching Lessons
My lessons were organized similarly in an "I Do, We Do, You Do format." While they both had
some form of transition and flow, Microteaching 1 was not as smooth as my second Microteaching.
The first Microteaching had multiple sets of manipulatives and a worksheet to hand out. While these
things were all important to the lesson they could have been implemented with a better flow. Before
the lesson, I had organized everything into groups and set it up at the front table and I knew when I
needed each manipulative. The content delivery and activities would flow smoothly but there would

The first change is to show more examples of what different pictographs look like. I started this
lesson by showing a pictograph and having students describe what they see. I think that it would be
beneficial to show multiple pictographs so that students can find similarities and differences in
them. This will help students understand what their pictographs need to include and what changes

My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school
was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU
so I decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for
several headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of
Lexington and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we
discussed their similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two–thirds of
the class was missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for
the lesson I prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up.
However, I was pleasantly surprised that Thursday's lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students
stayed on task and were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management.
Since this week was short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn't
have much involvement with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy
before class due to an argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I
believe my best classroom management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to

Despite the amount of current research on the impact assessment for learning (AfL) strategies have
had on student's achievement levels across the secondary curriculum, there has been limited
attention on its effect on students within design and technology and more specifically textiles.
This critical evaluation therefore reflects upon a range of AfL strategies used within a unit of work
on construction techniques for a year 10 textiles class at School X. The analysis was made across 3
consecutive lessons over 3 weeks, each lesson would include a different AfL strategy or a
combination of a range of different strategies.
School X is a small academy comprehensive providing secondary education to mixed gender 11–16
year olds with an above average percentage of SEN students. This group consists of 17 students, all
female, with a mixture of high and low attainers and 3 SEN pupils who all have mild learning
difficulties (MLD) and lack of confidence within themselves and their work.
At School X, they hold strong belief that AfL needs to be a part of every lesson to create
independent learners. They focus on lessons driven by WALT (we are learning to) and WILFs (what
I am look for) as well as rich questioning, peer– and self–assessment, amongst many other key
strategies to develop learners to their full potential.

The instruction of this lesson took place in a 2nd grade Spanish dual language classroom. The total
number of students that were present that day were 27 students. I videotaped two out of the three
lessons taught, but decided to choose the first video because of the level of student engagement. The
video I chose is from the first minutes of the first lesson including the hook and it goes into the
moment that students start carrying out their own investigations through the construction and the
creation of their own clay boats. Even before I asked the hook, the students were raising their hands,
which is common for them to do. What I feel I should have done was asked them to put their hands
down and think for three seconds about the question before they raise their hands. Something that I
noticed that did work during the teaching of this lesson was manipulating the clay in front of them
and acting as if I going to drop it in. The students got very creative with some of the answers, but
those are the answers that are worth jotting down as well because that might be what other students
are thinking.
Something that I didn't take into account right away was that not all students could see from where
they were standing. Therefore, I'm glad my cooperating teacher started to move the students. The

Year 10 students on their financial mathematics. The class is made up of 14 boys and 11 girls. And
here is a glimpse of their background. This is a low SES co–ed school with an ICSEA value of 984
(My School, 2015a), which is below the national average value of 1000 (ACARA, n.d.). Their
numeracy score is conclusively below the national average score of 580.
Teaching mathematics to these can be challenging as they lack a proper foundation in numeracy.
Some, who lack interests in mathematics, tend to be less cooperative and may endeavour to do as
little as possible. However, research have shown that adolescent are most likely be engaged with a
learning session if they can relate to the content; and more importantly, if they can perceive value in
what they learn.
So, as an introduction to financial mathematics, I decide to immerse them in a real–world problem

High School Reflection Essay
When working at Wade King in Mr. Denton's fourth grade classroom, I found that the students were
very excited to have Nicole and me as guest teachers for their math hour. I had never worked with
fourth grade students before, so their warm and inviting attitudes help calm my nerves. The lessons
went well and I was surprised by some of the students' connections that they had made throughout
our lessons. For example, there were several students that would bring up things that we hadn't
talked about yet, but we were going to at the end of the lesson. Like the connection that certain
fractions were larger than other fractions and this connection tied into the end of the lesson where

  • 2. I Am A Math Lesson Essay For my second lesson, I decided to conduct a math lesson as I had never conducted a math lesson in an elementary classroom let alone a 3rd grade classroom. I discussed with my CT what math concept I could teach that pertained to one of the 3rd grade standards. My CT told me that I could introduce the new concept of area to the class on the Friday that I was supposed to teach my lesson. I knew that that introducing a new topic on a Friday in an elementary classroom was not ideal as the majority of teachers that I have observed in the past usually wrap up their week's lessons on Friday. I do have trouble with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may take thirty–five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself. I read the book in the front of the room so that they were all able to see the pictures that the author was describing through the text. I would stop periodically to point out great sentence fluency parts of the book. In the book, there are many repeating statements but all said a different way. I would stop after we had heard the sentence more than once and ask the class how saying the sentence differently made the writing more fluent. There were quite a few sentences repeated in the text but they all had to do with different things and the students were able to point this out without asking by the end of the reading. The total number of students that were present that day were 27 students. I videotaped two out of the three lessons taught, but decided to choose the first video because of the level of student engagement. The video I chose is from the first minutes of the first lesson including the hook and it goes into the moment that students start carrying out their own investigations through the construction and the creation of their own clay boats. Even before I asked the hook, the students were raising their hands, which is common for them to do. What I feel I should have done was asked them to put their hands down and think for three seconds about the question before they raise their hands. Something that I noticed that did work during the teaching of this lesson was manipulating the clay in front of them and acting as if I going to drop it in. The students got very creative with some of the answers, but those are the answers that are worth jotting down as well because that might be what other students are thinking.
