The Shortage Of Water For California
In recent years there has been so much talk and propaganda regarding the ongoing in drought in
California. Scholars argue when the exact start of the drought was, but I believe that it started in
2007 because rainfall has fallen below average since then. Droughts occur because the quantity
demanded of water does not meet the quantity supplied which leads to a shortage. The drought has
impacted not only everyone in the state, but also the ecosystem. While there are many reasons why
there is a shortage of water in California; today I will touch on three of them, the lack of
precipitation, increase in population, and wasteful water use. In my research I will report on these
three reasons and look at possible solutions for this most recent dismal event in California.
The average rainfall for California is XXX but in more recent years that has not been the case. Since
2007 Californians has seen below average amount of rainfall, especially in 2013 where only 7
inches of rain fell. That is about 4.6 inches less than the second lowest recorded rainfall year which
was in 1898. In addition, California has also been experiencing above average temperatures. The
combination of low amount of rain and high temperature equals a recipe for disaster. There is also a
decrease in snow level in the Sierra Nevada. Snow is important to many different people from
agriculturalist, recreationalists, to municipalities. I will discover and report how the lack of rainfall,
snow, and high temperatures

The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant
union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American
phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era
and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a
small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing
Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the
story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that
Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of
elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art
Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a significant
transitional period in LA's history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los
angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that
followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a common
stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city's industry, which included the Union

Texas Is The Second Largest State Essay
The United States as a nation has its share of population increases and Texas is no stranger to such
growth. Being the second largest state, it boasts over 268 thousand square miles of land and
according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Texas was at 25.1 million people with
the estimated total population around 27.5 million for 2015 which is an increase of over 2.4 million
people just in Texas alone. Out of 25.1 million Texans, 37.6 percent noted themselves to be of the
Hispanic or Latino race (Data Access). In 1970, the U.S. Census asked only 5 percent of the
population if they were of Hispanic or Latino decent or origin, and on the 1980 census, 100 percent
of the population was asked (Gauthier) and it became that the population of immigrants in this
category have been expanding. Texas has gone from three million inhabitants in 1900 to over 18
million in almost one hundred years and though the trend has slowed slightly, Texas is still ranked as
the fastest growing state in the U.S. The Lone Star State 's immigration population and high
birthrates of its diverse citizenry have transformed the demographics of the 28th U.S. state and
because of this, specifically the Hispanic immigration, future politics must be addressed and
changed.
In 1845 after Texas statehood was granted, and Americans were migrating westward, this new land
opened up opportunities not only for migrants from the eastern U.S who went in search of economic
opportunity such as land

that seeks to illustrate and bring out the success efforts and routes used by Bob Iger between the
years 2006 and 2012 while at Disney to help deliver and improve quality in our company especially
in the film and the movie industry. Disney has had many successful franchises by offering a variety
of different franchises that target different age groups and genders; they are able to expand their
reach. Not only have they expanding the target market, they changed the ways they reach this
market. Pirates of the Caribbean have been a successful franchise for Disney CEO Bob Iger. This
based on the classic park ride theme. The Pirates of the Caribbean was able to breakthrough into the
teen viewing area. This franchise was the first one of Disney 's to be rated PG–13 (Lamb. C.W.,
Hair. JF., McDaniel. C, 2014). Iger had a great vision for the firm that was pegged on the three main
pillars (White, 2014). These were the expansion into the new global markets, the generation of the
greatest and most creative content possible in the market, and the development of innovative
technology that could fit into the modern industry. Looking at how Disney 's CEO Bob Iger targeted

American Traditions And Qualities Of The United States Essay
For many international students, acclimating to American society can be troublesome and
occasionally disappointing. American traditions and qualities may be altogether different from those
of your nation of origin, and you may discover them befuddling. America 's populace reflects
surprising ethnic differences. Non–white individuals dwarf whites in a lesser expansive urban area.
Daily papers regularly utilize such terms as "Asian American," "Italian
American," and "Bedouin American" to mirror the ingenuity of different ethnic legacies inside the
Unified States. There are individuals whose skin is named white, dark, cocoa, yellow and red.
There are individuals who have numerous years of formal instruction and individuals who have
about none. There are the exceptionally rich and also the extremely poor. There are
Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Communists, Communists, Libertarians, and disciples of
other political perspectives too. There are Legal advisors, agriculturists, handymen, instructors,
social laborers, movement officers and individuals in a great many different occupations. Some live
in urban zones and some in rustic ones. Given this differing qualities, would one be able to
conveniently discuss "Americans"? Probably so, given that one is watchful.
Americans don 't more often than not see themselves, when they are in the
Assembled States, as delegates of their nation. They consider themselves to be people who are not

The Chinese Communist government has complete power over the legislation, economic and
cultural institutions. While western economies have governments that promote transparency for
doing business, China's Communist Party's rules and regulations have made transparency difficult
(Jayaraman, 2009). Large manufacturing companies can come under various and random regulations
and bureaucracies, and the Chinese promotes a form of social networking called guanxiwang, where
guanxi is the relationship between the individual and the entities of the network (Jayaraman, 2009).
With the heavy amount of corruption and the lack of transparency the guanxiwang or the social
network with connections with people from the communist party can help western businesses avoid
red tape and bureaucracy. The IMF told the international business world that China was doing fine

Florida Californi A Great Impact On The Most Diverse...
California has been known for it 's beautiful golden coast, stunning mountain ranges, and the always
wonderful sunny weather. The state houses the largest and second most diverse population of people
in the United States. The large diversity of the people could be contributed by the vast differing
landscapes that stretch across the state. Northern California in particular, is home to a variety of
enormous mountains, mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and forever flowing rivers. People come
from all over to witness these breathtaking views. As for Southern California the alluring beaches,
rolling grass valleys, and various other attractions make for a significant difference to northern
California. The difference in environments has a great impact on the type of people that live in each
region. An individual 's race, ethnicity, hobbies, political views, job, etc. all can have an impact on
what area of California they live in. Some people, including myself enjoy a lot of outdoor activities
that fit well in Northern California areas such as hunting, hiking, snowboarding, etc. Meanwhile,
people that live in southern California may have much different outdoor hobbies due to the change
in climate. The contrast between north and south almost creates a split in the state. In 1941, the
proposal of a new state, named the State of Jefferson would take the very upper most part of
California and the southern most part of Oregon to create a 51st state. Today, that proposal has

Technology And Corporate Culture : Hewlett Packard
Since 1939, Hewlett–Packard has been a leader in technology and corporate culture. Founders, Bill
Hewlett and Dave Packard, were peers at Stanford University, where they met as engineer students.
Their professor, Fred Terman, encouraged them to start a technology company together, although
they went their separate ways after graduation they eventually re–united. The partnership, Hewlett–
Packard, began in a rented garage, 12 by 18 feet, located in Palo Alto, California. With $538 in US
Capital, in this small space, proto types were produced such as a diathermy machine, and an electric
eye for automatic toilet flushing. This geographical location was largely agricultural with orchards
and farms, but the huge success of their company transformed the areas landscape and culture so
much, that it is now a historical landmark designated as, "The Birth Place of Silicon Valley."
They originally wanted to name the company 'Engineering Service Co.' and had ideas to produce
products such as bowling lane signals and harmonica tunes. Sometimes the two even used the
Packard family oven to put finishing touches on their products, though they finally had a significant
breakthrough when Walt Disney purchased 8 oscillators to precisely tune theatres for 'Fantasia.'
They named their product 'The HP Model 200A,' to come across as an established company. Walt

California Drought : California And Alaska
California Drought
California is the state located in southwest of the North America and is the third largest state beside
Texas and Alaska. California is well known for its sunny and friendly weather. Other than that,
abundant job opportunities, great education, and rich culture draw many resettlers not only
Americans moving from other states, but also immigrants resettling here from all over the world.
Large population will certainly increase the demand of water and food to fulfill the basic human
needs. Yet one fact shows that the total urban water usage in California only accounts for roughly
ten percent. Food actually requires more water to produce than the urban uses. Agriculture in
California plays an huge role as producer and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of letting the drought conditions become worse, both agricultural practice and personal
habits have to be changed. Only understanding how to use water efficiently as well as how to
conserve water effectively are the only ways to survive from water crisis. This is a challenge for
every Californian, agricultural provider and the state governor.
Before finding solutions for the drought trends, knowing where California get its water supply is
essential. Colorado River system provides an important source of water for Southern California and
supports Los Angeles and San Diego County, where dwell the most population in the south. The
reliable water resource lessen the current water stress and drought problems as well as given enough
water for domestic use . However, water supply from the Colorado river can only be considered as a
short–term solution in terms of drought. Expanding urban area and growing population in Southern
California increase the demand of water, and on top of that California is not the only thirsty state
that shares water supply from the same river system. Michael Wines emphasises that
These new realities are forcing a profound reassessment of how the 1,450–mile Colorado, the
Southwest's only major river, can continue to slake the thirst of one of the nation's fastest–growing
regions. Agriculture, from California's Imperial Valley to Wyoming's cattle herds, soaks up about
three–quarters of its water, and produces 15 percent of the nation's food.

The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues
Define the Problem
As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents' basic needs: the cost of
housing. According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in California
are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it
was estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the
increased population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs. From January
2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city
struggling to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015).
The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam–webster
dictionary defines gentrification as "the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx
of middle–class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents"
(2015). San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased
approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices also soar to record highs in San
Francisco residents have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along with the influx
of new affluent residents come shops, stores and restaurants. A recent article in the San Francisco
Chronicle's food blog "Inside Scoop" named four new restaurants opening in Oakland's Temescal
district, a neighbor hood that has rapidly changed over

Utilitarians view punishment as a pathway lined with deterrence... one that ultimately leads
criminals towards rehabilitation. This is a forward–looking approach, as it focuses on the future of
criminal behavior (Hemmens et al., 2013). This perspective concentrates on two separate entities.
Those being the person whom is punished, as well as the other members of society. If one were to
ask a utilitarian, "Why Punish?" the response would likely be, "We must punish in order to promote
good and prevent evil... in the future." There is little focus on the crime that has already been
committed or under what circumstances that it occurred. The concern is with what society should do
next in order to prevent it from happening again. Utilitarians believe that if no good consequences
result from punishment, then no punishment is justified. One could look at this philosophy of
punishment as a doorway of opportunity for criminals, but also as a doorway of fear... one that keeps

History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay
Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California
California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring
educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so,
there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons
which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The
California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to
study the state's educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the
recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of
normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that
placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education.
A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The
legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals
process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also
made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of
the legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the
requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to

The drive to be included leads men to and the subsequent affect of not being included has a lasting
ripple effect, that spans through time. The affects can be felt. The allure of hollywood attracts all
sorts of people that are desperate to be included. Not just actors, not just studio heads, agents or

People will go to great lengths to be close to the stars of Hollywood. It drives some people insane.
That drive for fame and power leaves a lasting impression on the landscape and on lives for decades.
William 'Billy' Wilkerson is one such person. His desire to be somebody was so great that his efforts
shaped the physical landscape, the social landscape, and the political landscape far beyond his

quest for inclusion into the inner circle of the Hollywood elite, little more than a footnote in the
history books. Billy is all but forgotten.

By doing this she is clearly stating that she is not willing to except the traditions of the Americans
because her people had their own. She also used writing to help preserve the folklore of the New
Mexican people for she did not want their culture and ways of life to be forgotten. Mariano
Guadalupe Vallejo was an influential man from California who unlike Vigil y Alarid, was in support
of Americans coming to California. He thought that it would be strong, positive and economically
smart to develop unoccupied lands. But what he did not realize was that the Americans were not
interested in adapting to the culture of Mexicans. They wanted the Mexicans to adapt to the Anglo
ways of life. On June 14, 1846 a group of 35 or so American men led by John C. Fremont invaded
Sonoma expecting to go to war with the Mexicans but found nothing but a sleeping town (Padilla,
53). Vallejo writes "Doubtless God had decreed that June 1846 was to be the blackest month of my
life" (Padilla, 53). The Americans that Vallejo had befriended had turned against him: "...who seems

Analysis Of Walt Disney 's ' Sleeping Beauty For The Past...
The Walt Disney Corporation over the past century has become a phenomenon of its own,
transcending into the lives of families globally. Recently, a popular trend has been to reinvent their
one–time classic films, Sleeping Beauty for instance. With the release of Maleficent, Disney sought
to change the perception of the film and retell the story with a new spin. Evidently, a change this
large caused mixed reviews in the reception of the film. However, one group that was strongly
appreciative of the new rendition was that of feminism. With Maleficent's story retold in a manner
supporting a strong female lead, rather than Aurora who slept through the majority of the film,
Disney set the stage of female empowerment. In the article Imagining ... Show more content on

The focus of the article highlights the differences of presented in the film between masculine
society, King Stefan's Kingdom, and the natural landscape of the Moors, cared for by Maleficent.
The article claims, "Maleficent communicates an awareness of ecological pedagogical practices that
serve to liberate audience members in the midst of environmental collapse" (Hatfield 81). Through
this, it is reasoned that Disney is engaged in issues surrounding both civilization collapse and the
feminist agency within all this. The article further promotes that nature is subjected to be beneath
culture as industrialization is at the root of the degradation of the natural environment. The idea is
paralleled within Maleficent, between the Kingdom of Stefan and the Moors. The "queer relations"
aspect is promoted through Aurora and Maleficent's atypical relationship, which ultimately bridges
the gap between the two kingdoms, unifying culture and nature. The argument pursued in Imagining
Ecofeminist Communities via Queer Alliances in Disney's Maleficent is strongly clarified through
supporting works. The ecofeminism idea that is pushed outlines the cross between
environmentalism and feminism. Environmentalism analyzes work to analyze why nature is treated
inferior to culture while the feminist movement shows interest in uncovering why women are treated
inferior to men. The cross between

The State Of California 's Financial Report
In the second half of this paper, I will analyze is the State of California's Financial Report. The
government is not a nonprofit, although they are quite similar; therefore, the government's financial
report will be evaluated using different methods and from different perspectives. To get a broad
overview of this government, first, the financial position and economic condition of the State of
California will be evaluated. Then, things with more depth, such as budget planning, funds, and
infrastructure, will be discussed.
As taxpayers, people are required to pay imposed taxes and derived taxes. Since payments are not
voluntary as opposed to nonprofits, people want to know where the government currently stands,
whether it has sufficient revenues for efficiently running current public services, and how much it
has improved compared to last year. Examining government–wide financial statements will give
readers a basic understanding of the government's condition. The government–wide financial
statements consist two parts: the statement of net position and the statement of activities. Based on
the statement of net position, in 2015, the State of California has a deficit of about $41.0 billion.
Compared to the past 10 fiscal years, the fiscal year of 2015 has the least amount of total
governmental activity net position and total primary government net position. In addition, the
unrestricted deficit as a percentage of total assets is –75.64%, which is close to –100%. This number

A Fan Of The Oakland Raiders
I have been a fan of the Oakland Raiders since I was born. The city of Oakland has a rich history. It
is the birthplace of the Black Panther Party and the home of many influential artists, such as Tupac,
MC Hammer, and Too Short. The Raiders shouldn't leave this city because of the culture that has
spawned from here, a culture that the they are a part of. The Raiders staying in Oakland will be
profitable to the ownership as well as beneficial to the team on the field and for fans. Staying in
Oakland will be the best financially. Oakland has a booming economy that continues to grow at a
rapid pace. Many new companies setting up headquarters in Oakland, such as Uber, are making the

So, in the long run the Raiders would be making more money by not moving to Vegas. Staying in
Oakland will be the best thing to do for the fans as well.
Raiders fans are some of the best in all of sports. They will travel to games all over the country to
watch their team play, and they sell out games even when the team is bad. The Raiders organization
has already once devastated fans, by moving to Los Angeles right when they were getting good in
the 1980s. They went on to win one championship in their decade in LA. When they returned to
Oakland the Raiders were never the same, only going to one more Super Bowl before their playoff
drought started. For 14 seasons, the fans have suffered, yet they still have been going to games
faithfully. This past season was the first season they made the playoffs in those 14 years, and it
ended in heartbreak. With all these rumors about moving away from Oakland, us fans couldn't even
fully enjoy the spectacular season the team had, in fear that the team that finally is good may be
leaving once again. Fans have been feeling cheated by the Raiders for making us suffer for so long
only to 'Return To Greatness' and leave. Kuvin Hayer, a lifelong fan, expresses the emotions many
fans are feeling, "Last time we got good, our hearts were ripped out and the team moved to LA. It

Taxes and abortion. Jane needs to prioritize this issues and present them in a clear and concise way

campaign theme will help paint Jane as a committed conservative Republican, which is out to
reduce government spending. It could thus lead to a decrease in national debt.
Also proposing incentives for small businesses and reduced taxes for the rest of the population, she
is most likely to get the Republican votes. "The fact that various regions of Texas have varied
economic status, the issue of taxation for the working class will need to be tailored for each affected
region and to be delivered with caution (Newell, Prinde, & Riddleperger, 2013).
Abortion is a highly discussed issue nationwide, even among different ethnic groups as it tends to

facilities that are fully equipped to carry out the procedures. This is in fact protecting the right of the
Texans women and also reducing the numbers of abortion facilities that are all over the state. This in

San Francisco Bay And The Francisco Estuary
The San Francisco Bay was stumbled upon by Spanish soldiers in 1769. Upon the time of its
discovery, the Bay and the San Francisco Estuary traversed 500 square miles consisting of open
water as well as another 850 square miles of fresh and salt water marsh. There was beautiful scenery
along with the existence of various species in the beginning of its discovery. Various types of species
included sea otters, whales, large salmon, mussels and oysters, large flocks of geese and duck, as
well as shorebirds.
The San Francisco Bay, including the Delta, configures the largest estuary on the West Coast. The
San Francisco Estuary Project was created to aid in restoring the beautiful wetland habitat and in
turn will also help in conserving the biodiversity of plants and animals. Restoring the loss of
wetlands since the Gold Rush is one of the primary goals of the San Francisco Estuary Partnership
Projects. The San Francisco Estuary transports water from the Sacramento River and the San
Joaquin River that is then transferred into the Pacific Ocean.

Bridge Science
Science Questions
Identify and discuss the design elements that you incorporated into your bridge.
Design Elements: While building this bridge, the first design element, was the deck design. We took
around one horizontal length of vertical popsicle sticks and lined them side by side, and repeated.
Later we connected them together with a horizontal popsicle stick. I then took two lines and placed
them ontop of eachother to create a flat surface. This way it will carry a lot of weight, and it will
also run smoothly. After this I created trusses to put on the side, so that the weight would be evenly
distributed amongst the bridge, instead of all the weight on one part. This would help stop the bridge
from immediately bending once weights were put into the bucket. To make the trusses I had to take
popsicle sticks and glue them into a triangle shape, and then glue them together from the bottom.
This way they wouldn't break apart. I then doubled them up so that it would be able to sustain more
weight. Under the bridge I placed a lot of beams, so that the bridge would hold together from the
bottom, instead of immediately bending once I placed a weight. I made the beam from gluing ...

The California Drought And The Proper Allocation Of Water...
The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources
Intro:
The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are beginning to
reek havoc on the state's municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If the state continues as is
supporting in thirsty agricultural industries, towns and cities at current levels, not only will this
exacerbate already tenuous water supply problem within the state it will have ripple affects
throughout the South West. Surrounding states will have to adopt even more stringent restriction for
farms, cities and industries which may have further calamitous economic results. However, the most
difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have yet to be answered and
likely will not be resolved before California's water situation worsens. Last April standing in front of
a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor Jerry Brown declared the drought in California
has reached a crisis level and instituted state–wide water restriction for towns, cities and
municipalities. He called for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take
shorter showers, and let lawns turn brown. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 80%
(Northern California Water Association) of all human consumption of water this industry was
exempted any restriction by the governor. With a drought which shows no sign of letting up,

Where Is Silicon Valley?
Where is Silicon Valley?
Silicon Valley is the name given to the region south of the San Fransisco Bay Area that is located in
Northern California. It is an area in the larger U.S state of California and stands as a hub of
economic activity with the headquarters of most of the global tech companies calling it home.
Silicon Valley extends to cover the whole of Santa Clara Valley covering the lower part of the San
Francisco Peninsula and the southern region of the East Bay. With that, Santa Clara County,
Alameda County and San Mateo County are all considered as wholesomely making up what is
known as Silicon Valley. In terms of economic pathways, San Jose is described as the capital of
Silicon Valley as it is the hub of activity with unlimited establishments marking the offices of major
corporations.
What is Silicon Valley?
Silicon Valley received its acclaimed name from a process of name combination that sought to
define the region in terms of the location and significant economic activity. The name "Silicon" was
arrived at as a reference to the multiple manufacturers and creative innovators of Silicon Chips
largely used in computers and other tech gadgets to structure integrated circuits and facilitate
information linkage to microprocessors. The name "Valley" was coined in reference to the Santa
Clara Valley which was the centerpiece of the "Silicon Valley" region. With the evolution of the

The company also gains advantage over other companies by entertaining all members of the family

advantage over companies like Universal, which only has parks in Orlando, Florida and Hollywood,
California.

1. Bargaining Power of Suppliers:
I don't believe that the suppliers have too much power in changing the decisions of such a big
company like Disney. Although they might have some in the consumer product branch of the
company, they don't influence the rest of it. Since Disney is in the entertainment business, the
company is pretty self sufficient in creating the movies, parks, shows, and others. When it comes to
the consumer products though, the suppliers are very important. If the makers of the toys over in
China were to up their prices, the whole decision process of the consumer product branch of the
company would be affected.

The Shortage Of Water For California

  • 1. The Shortage Of Water For California In recent years there has been so much talk and propaganda regarding the ongoing in drought in California. Scholars argue when the exact start of the drought was, but I believe that it started in 2007 because rainfall has fallen below average since then. Droughts occur because the quantity demanded of water does not meet the quantity supplied which leads to a shortage. The drought has impacted not only everyone in the state, but also the ecosystem. While there are many reasons why there is a shortage of water in California; today I will touch on three of them, the lack of precipitation, increase in population, and wasteful water use. In my research I will report on these three reasons and look at possible solutions for this most recent dismal event in California. The average rainfall for California is XXX but in more recent years that has not been the case. Since 2007 Californians has seen below average amount of rainfall, especially in 2013 where only 7 inches of rain fell. That is about 4.6 inches less than the second lowest recorded rainfall year which was in 1898. In addition, California has also been experiencing above average temperatures. The combination of low amount of rain and high temperature equals a recipe for disaster. There is also a decrease in snow level in the Sierra Nevada. Snow is important to many different people from agriculturalist, recreationalists, to municipalities. I will discover and report how the lack of rainfall, snow, and high temperatures ... • 3. The Growth Of Early Los Angeles To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a significant transitional period in LA's history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a common stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city's industry, which included the Union Pacific ... • 7. Texas Is The Second Largest State Essay The United States as a nation has its share of population increases and Texas is no stranger to such growth. Being the second largest state, it boasts over 268 thousand square miles of land and according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Texas was at 25.1 million people with the estimated total population around 27.5 million for 2015 which is an increase of over 2.4 million people just in Texas alone. Out of 25.1 million Texans, 37.6 percent noted themselves to be of the Hispanic or Latino race (Data Access). In 1970, the U.S. Census asked only 5 percent of the population if they were of Hispanic or Latino decent or origin, and on the 1980 census, 100 percent of the population was asked (Gauthier) and it became that the population of immigrants in this category have been expanding. Texas has gone from three million inhabitants in 1900 to over 18 million in almost one hundred years and though the trend has slowed slightly, Texas is still ranked as the fastest growing state in the U.S. The Lone Star State 's immigration population and high birthrates of its diverse citizenry have transformed the demographics of the 28th U.S. state and because of this, specifically the Hispanic immigration, future politics must be addressed and changed. In 1845 after Texas statehood was granted, and Americans were migrating westward, this new land opened up opportunities not only for migrants from the eastern U.S who went in search of economic opportunity such as land ... • 13. American Traditions And Qualities Of The United States Essay For many international students, acclimating to American society can be troublesome and occasionally disappointing. American traditions and qualities may be altogether different from those of your nation of origin, and you may discover them befuddling. America 's populace reflects surprising ethnic differences. Non–white individuals dwarf whites in a lesser expansive urban area. Daily papers regularly utilize such terms as "Asian American," "Italian American," and "Bedouin American" to mirror the ingenuity of different ethnic legacies inside the Unified States. There are individuals whose skin is named white, dark, cocoa, yellow and red. There are individuals who have numerous years of formal instruction and individuals who have about none. There are the exceptionally rich and also the extremely poor. There are Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Communists, Communists, Libertarians, and disciples of other political perspectives too. There are Legal advisors, agriculturists, handymen, instructors, social laborers, movement officers and individuals in a great many different occupations. Some live in urban zones and some in rustic ones. Given this differing qualities, would one be able to conveniently discuss "Americans"? Probably so, given that one is watchful. Americans don 't more often than not see themselves, when they are in the Assembled States, as delegates of their nation. They consider themselves to be people who are not quite the same as every ... When examining the cultural charts of both France and China on http://geert–hofstede.com , a U.S. manager can get an idea on how their behavior may need to be modified when communicating with associates from France or China. While western economies have governments that promote transparency for doing business, China's Communist Party's rules and regulations have made transparency difficult (Jayaraman, 2009). Large manufacturing companies can come under various and random regulations and bureaucracies, and the Chinese promotes a form of social networking called guanxiwang, where guanxi is the relationship between the individual and the entities of the network (Jayaraman, 2009). With the heavy amount of corruption and the lack of transparency the guanxiwang or the social network with connections with people from the communist party can help western businesses avoid red tape and bureaucracy. The IMF told the international business world that China was doing fine in their transition to a new normal. With the IMF stating that the country was moving towards a slower but safer and more sustainable growth (Porter, 2015). With the risk coming from the Chinese government and their push for more economic reform might prove to be insufficient (Porter, 2015). The state houses the largest and second most diverse population of people in the United States. The large diversity of the people could be contributed by the vast differing landscapes that stretch across the state. Northern California in particular, is home to a variety of enormous mountains, mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and forever flowing rivers. People come from all over to witness these breathtaking views. As for Southern California the alluring beaches, rolling grass valleys, and various other attractions make for a significant difference to northern California. The difference in environments has a great impact on the type of people that live in each region. An individual 's race, ethnicity, hobbies, political views, job, etc. all can have an impact on what area of California they live in. Some people, including myself enjoy a lot of outdoor activities that fit well in Northern California areas such as hunting, hiking, snowboarding, etc. Meanwhile, people that live in southern California may have much different outdoor hobbies due to the change in climate. The contrast between north and south almost creates a split in the state. Their professor, Fred Terman, encouraged them to start a technology company together, although they went their separate ways after graduation they eventually re–united. The partnership, Hewlett– Packard, began in a rented garage, 12 by 18 feet, located in Palo Alto, California. With $538 in US Capital, in this small space, proto types were produced such as a diathermy machine, and an electric eye for automatic toilet flushing. This geographical location was largely agricultural with orchards and farms, but the huge success of their company transformed the areas landscape and culture so much, that it is now a historical landmark designated as, "The Birth Place of Silicon Valley." They originally wanted to name the company 'Engineering Service Co.' and had ideas to produce products such as bowling lane signals and harmonica tunes. Sometimes the two even used the Packard family oven to put finishing touches on their products, though they finally had a significant breakthrough when Walt Disney purchased 8 oscillators to precisely tune theatres for 'Fantasia.' Instead of letting the drought conditions become worse, both agricultural practice and personal habits have to be changed. Only understanding how to use water efficiently as well as how to conserve water effectively are the only ways to survive from water crisis. This is a challenge for every Californian, agricultural provider and the state governor. Before finding solutions for the drought trends, knowing where California get its water supply is essential. Colorado River system provides an important source of water for Southern California and supports Los Angeles and San Diego County, where dwell the most population in the south. The reliable water resource lessen the current water stress and drought problems as well as given enough water for domestic use . However, water supply from the Colorado river can only be considered as a short–term solution in terms of drought. Expanding urban area and growing population in Southern California increase the demand of water, and on top of that California is not the only thirsty state that shares water supply from the same river system. Michael Wines emphasises that These new realities are forcing a profound reassessment of how the 1,450–mile Colorado, the Southwest's only major river, can continue to slake the thirst of one of the nation's fastest–growing regions. Agriculture, from California's Imperial Valley to Wyoming's cattle herds, soaks up about three–quarters of its water, and produces 15 percent of the nation's food. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues Define the Problem As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents' basic needs: the cost of housing. According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in California are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it was estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the increased population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs. From January 2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city struggling to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015). The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam–webster dictionary defines gentrification as "the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle–class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents" (2015). San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices also soar to record highs in San Francisco residents have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along with the influx of new affluent residents come shops, stores and restaurants. This leads me to think that CCWF is in full alignment with the retributivist philosophy, so why then do I have feelings of optimism while incarcerated here? Utilitarians view punishment as a pathway lined with deterrence... one that ultimately leads criminals towards rehabilitation. This is a forward–looking approach, as it focuses on the future of criminal behavior (Hemmens et al., 2013). This perspective concentrates on two separate entities. Those being the person whom is punished, as well as the other members of society. If one were to ask a utilitarian, "Why Punish?" the response would likely be, "We must punish in order to promote good and prevent evil... in the future." There is little focus on the crime that has already been committed or under what circumstances that it occurred. The concern is with what society should do next in order to prevent it from happening again. Utilitarians believe that if no good consequences result from punishment, then no punishment is justified. • 35. History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state's educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education. A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of the legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to ... The Walt Disney Corporation over the past century has become a phenomenon of its own, transcending into the lives of families globally. With the release of Maleficent, Disney sought to change the perception of the film and retell the story with a new spin. Evidently, a change this large caused mixed reviews in the reception of the film. However, one group that was strongly appreciative of the new rendition was that of feminism. Upon the time of its discovery, the Bay and the San Francisco Estuary traversed 500 square miles consisting of open water as well as another 850 square miles of fresh and salt water marsh. There was beautiful scenery along with the existence of various species in the beginning of its discovery. Various types of species included sea otters, whales, large salmon, mussels and oysters, large flocks of geese and duck, as well as shorebirds. The San Francisco Bay, including the Delta, configures the largest estuary on the West Coast. The San Francisco Estuary Project was created to aid in restoring the beautiful wetland habitat and in turn will also help in conserving the biodiversity of plants and animals. • 61. Bridge Science Science Questions Identify and discuss the design elements that you incorporated into your bridge. Design Elements: While building this bridge, the first design element, was the deck design. We took around one horizontal length of vertical popsicle sticks and lined them side by side, and repeated. Later we connected them together with a horizontal popsicle stick. I then took two lines and placed them ontop of eachother to create a flat surface. This way it will carry a lot of weight, and it will also run smoothly. After this I created trusses to put on the side, so that the weight would be evenly distributed amongst the bridge, instead of all the weight on one part. This would help stop the bridge from immediately bending once weights were put into the bucket. To make the trusses I had to take popsicle sticks and glue them into a triangle shape, and then glue them together from the bottom. This way they wouldn't break apart. I then doubled them up so that it would be able to sustain more weight. Under the bridge I placed a lot of beams, so that the bridge would hold together from the bottom, instead of immediately bending once I placed a weight. I made the beam from gluing ... • 65. The California Drought And The Proper Allocation Of Water... The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources Intro: The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are beginning to reek havoc on the state's municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If the state continues as is supporting in thirsty agricultural industries, towns and cities at current levels, not only will this exacerbate already tenuous water supply problem within the state it will have ripple affects throughout the South West. Surrounding states will have to adopt even more stringent restriction for farms, cities and industries which may have further calamitous economic results. However, the most difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have yet to be answered and likely will not be resolved before California's water situation worsens. Last April standing in front of a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor Jerry Brown declared the drought in California has reached a crisis level and instituted state–wide water restriction for towns, cities and municipalities. He called for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take shorter showers, and let lawns turn brown. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 80% (Northern California Water Association) of all human consumption of water this industry was exempted any restriction by the governor. With a drought which shows no sign of letting up, powerful farm and environmental lobbies, difficult to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was never popular (as all around her abhorred her presence). She too quiet, choosing to sit on the sidelines of any and all social situations. She was never funny, suffering from a dark and cynical nature. She was ugly as sin. She chose to dress like our granny Sue, and everything down to her very hair style was an anachronism. She chose to hold on to her matte black pager, even though the only ones that used that stupid piece of outdated tech were doctors and drug dealers. For exactly these reasons, I decided to get her elected class president. Now, Marge is my cousin, and strange as she may be, that has to count for something. She is a junior, and I am in the grade below her. About a month ago, she and the rest of her grade were swept up in the throes of prom–posals. Disney's parks and resorts division also has an advantage over other company's parks because of their locations. This gives the company an advantage over companies like Universal, which only has parks in Orlando, Florida and Hollywood, California. Requirement Two Analyze Disney using the framework of Porter's Five Forces. 1. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: I don't believe that the suppliers have too much power in changing the decisions of such a big company like Disney. Although they might have some in the consumer product branch of the company, they don't influence the rest of it. Since Disney is in the entertainment business, the company is pretty self sufficient in creating the movies, parks, shows, and others. When it comes to the consumer products though, the suppliers are very important. If the makers of the toys over in China were to up their prices, the whole decision process of the consumer product branch of the company would be affected. 2. Women, The Hill, And The Center For People Of All Races "Of Cantonese Women, the Hill, and the Center for People of All Races" El Centro de la Raza's Food Banks becomes a site of immigrant place making of primarily Latino and Chinese descended Cantonese people. Unpacking the social interactions that are occurring at the food bank speak to the pathways of community that begin, shift, and reify the participation in gastro–politics and symbolic commensality, as a means of immigrant place making. THE REVOLUTIONARY OCCUPATION OF BEACON HILL SCHOOL El Centro de la Raza is a big, old wooden building that was formerly Beacon Hill School. Probably the kind of place where the first "Schoolhouse Rock" videos were played. But, through occupation and solidarity, Beacon Hill School became a site of an entirely different kind of civic education. El Centro de la Raza as we know it today, is the product of an unfaltering revolution. The day of my service learning orientation, I got lost. And I felt not so much ashamed, as much as I felt as if my pride has been pricked.
