The Lab Shopping Center Is A Palace Of Consumption
The LAB shopping center in Costa Mesa, California proudly calls itself the "anti–mall," a place
where traditional conceptions of retail do not apply and consumerism is cool once again. Except that
this is not the case. Though they would have you believe you're a hint hipper and more culturally
conscious than the average person for shopping their stores, like all shopping malls, the anti–mall's
chief agenda is to garner reliable vendors, pull a crowd, exploit wallets, and cash in. The LAB, like
all retail centers, is a palace of consumption. But, unlike most, the LAB champions a particularly
aggressive brand of pretension in the good name of its marketing. The LAB, which self–describes
itself as the "anti–mall," seeks to distance itself from preconceived ideas of the monolithic shopping
mall complete with capacious, empty architecture, alienating spacial design, and bland, corporate
imagery. If normal shopping malls represent complacent conformity, the anti–mall gives hope that
capitalism can still be young, edgy, rebellious, but most importantly, individualistic. The LAB seeks
to prove itself as place for individuals and freethinkers. Viewed from afar, with its brick–clad
facade, the LAB evokes the images of an art collective, a downtown music venue, and a smoky
subcultural hub all rolled into one. One thinks of trendy coffee shops, a dense, urban, communal
lifestyle, and worker–owned bookstores filled with radical and subversive literature. In reality, The
LAB provides

According to Northen (1984), the reasons of renovation of shopping mall are functional
obsolescence of the centre, change in surrounding demographic pattern, new competition with
nearby shopping centre, and withdrawal of major anchor tenant.
To deal with these forces, renovation works are to be carried out. According to Hassanaian and Al–
Mudhei (2006), renovation could bring positive effects to the shopping centre. The four major
elements of renovation includes design and layout, catchment area, trade and tenant mix, and
branding. The renovation could improve the internal space and facilities, maximize the profit,
capture more potential customers and build a good image.
Design and Layout
The renovation of the shopping centre could improve the internal space and facilities. The shopping
centre could be redesign and the layout of the shopping centre could be reset. It allow the more
effective use of space in the shopping cente. More tenants could enter the shopping centre as there

CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN SHOPPING CENTER CHOICE
VEYSEL YILMAZ
Osmangazi University, Eski^ehir, Turkey
This study was designed to research factors which consumers consider when choosing a shopping
center and to develop a suggestion model for shopping center choice. First a questionnaire about
choosing a shopping center was fonned. Then the questionnaire was given to 300 randomly chosen
consumers and collected on the next day. Two hundred and sixty–two fully filled out questionnaires
were analyzed. Besides demographic questions, effective factors determining people 's shopping

Golob (2001a) tested a series of joint models of attitude and behavior to explain how both mode
choice and attitudes regarding a combined household variables and toll facility (HOT lanes) differ
across the population. Applying Weighted Least Squares (WLS) estimation to a data set from San
Diego, California, the author demonstrates that choices appear to influence some opinions and
perceptions, but other opinions and perceptions are independent of behavior and dependent only
upon exogenous personal and household variables. None of the models tested found any significant
effects of attitudes on choice. Most papers written have focused on the variables explaining the
attraction of shopping center choice (e.g., Suarez, Rodriguez del Bosque, Rodriguez–Poo, & Moral,
2004: Degeratu, Rangaswamy, & Wu, 2000; Severin, Louviere, & Finn, 2001). They have always
used logit models and a random effect model. Degeratu et al. focus specifically on assessing whether
or not brand names and price have an impact on choices online and in traditional supermarkets.
Severin et al. investigated use of relatively recent developments in random utility theory to assess
the stability over time and space of the preferences underlying retailshopping

Shopping Center At Rayzor Ranch Marketplace
I. Selected Shopping Center Rayzor Ranch Marketplace has a diverse selection of 42 retailers
covering an 800,000 square foot lot. The marketplace was established in Fall of 2010. It is located
off of Highway 380 and University Dr. in Denton, Texas. Having only been around for 5 years the
shopping center appears very contemporary compared to older shopping centers nearby. The parking
lots are clean and trash free and the paint stripes are easily visible. The landscape is very well kept
and there are potted flowers in the gathering areas. Overall the shopping center provides a refreshing
look to the community. II. Location The Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is conveniently located on
University Dr. one of Denton's busiest streets. Located across the street is another shopping center
and a total of 3 gas stations surrounding the location. There are 3 main entrances to the shopping
center. Consumers can also access the center through a gas station parking lot located right next to
the shopping center. Although the traffic is usually free flowing, during rush hours the entryways
can become congested. The Shopping Center is constantly booming and has increased the traffic
flow in the area. The success of the shopping center would lead me to conclusion that center is a
destination. III. Retailer Composition Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is anchored by a Wal–Mart
supercenter. A supercenter is defined as a "Large store (150,000 to 220,000 square feet) combining a

The Stereotypes Of Cheapskate, Impulsive Buyer
We see many people when shopping. In public, we are able to see what they are wearing, how they
act, their attitude, and their personality. These people can range from many different stereotypes
such as: the Cheapskate, the Impulsive Buyer, and the Hater. Even though these people have
different attitudes toward shopping, they all have the same goal: which is to to shop. Coupons, sales,
rewards, and memberships are the holy grail to a shopping Cheapskate. They are the people we see
at the checkout with a book of coupons and dollar signs in their eyes. Cheapskates are individuals
who never buy anything full price and will stop at nothing to save a buck. These singular identities
use coupons all the time and only shop on sales racks. For example, on the tv show Extreme
Couponers, these citizens have it all figured out about being cheap at the store. The ... Show more

I buy everything on site; sometimes, without even looking at the price and quality of the product I
am purchasing. My biggest appeal factor would be makeup. I love makeup more than the average
person; therefore, I buy more makeup than the average person. Peach blush, champagne highlighter,
black mascara, and full coverage concealer are essentials in my cosmetic collection––which I have
bought impulsively. Overall, I am proud to say that I am an impulsive buyer rather than a person
who despises shopping: a Hater. A Hater is someone who would want to have nothing to do with the
art of shopping. Shopping, to them, is a complete and utter waste of time. These people usually
complain a lot before, during, and even after the shopping trip. They would rather do anything else
besides shopping and will do anything to avoid it. For example, The Hater might ask a friend or
family member to pick up something they need or will try to find a substitute from what they
already have to try to get the task done. In general, this person is just a grumpy person who does not

Shopping Center : Chicago 's Inner Harbor
In the early 19th century, the shopping centers were place in open public places where there was
urban and public activities of a city. For example, a festival center called Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
This was in the street full open places such as games, shopping centers, restaurants, etc... On these
shopping centers were people who wanted to shop, eat, entertain, sleep, get marry, and have a
college education. The beginning of the 20th century, one of the ideas was to create shopping malls
and parks. The nature of shopping stores in downtown department stores was just having individual
stores in different places, but was not integrated in just one building. Now shopping centers have
changed completely such as having a big and wide building fulfill of brand stores, restaurants, and
games. Shopping malls are also created in suburbs, which are also commonly visited by their
residents. The malls were created not just to be able to sell merchandise but also to be able to help
the social and civic life of the cities and suburb. There were places that were opened during this
time, in the book "Civitas By Design" by Howard Gillette mentions, "Upper Darby Center in
Philadelphia, Highland Park in Dallas, and River Oaks Center in Houston" (pg. 77) were great ideas
for all of these cities and suburbs. The main purpose was to make it easier for all residents to get
their needs, be influential and ambitious. It was influential and ambitious because it would create the

Consumer Goods Classification
Introduction:
The classification of goods (physical products) is essential to business because it provides a basis for
determining the strategies needed to move them through the marketing system.
The two main forms of classifications are consumer goods and industrial goods.
We are interested in this paper to elaborate more on Consumer Goods Classification only.
Consumer Goods:
Consumer goods are defined as goods that are bought from retail stores for personal, family, or
household use.
Or, they can also be defined as:
Products intended for use or consumption by individuals, as opposed to organizations, companies or
businesses.
Consumer goods are generally divided into subcategories according to the method by which they are
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For price–based shopping goods, consumers judge product attributes to be similar and look around
for the least expensive item/store. Consumers will exert effort in searching for information, because
shopping goods are bought infrequently. Hyundai Automobile and store–brand clothes are marketed
as price–based shopping goods.
Because customers are going to shop for these goods, a fundamental strategy in establishing stores
that specialize in them is to locate near similar stores in active shopping areas, in other words,
shopping goods require selective distribution. Ongoing strategies for marketing shopping goods
include the heavy use of advertising in local media, including newspapers, radio, and television.
Advertising for shopping goods is often done cooperatively with the manufacturers of the goods.
Specialty Goods: Specialty goods are items that are unique or unusual–at least in the mind of the
buyer. Buyers know exactly what they want and are willing to exert considerable effort to obtain it.
These goods are usually, but not necessarily, of high value, and they may or may not be durable
goods. They differ from shopping goods primarily because price is not the chief consideration.
Often the attributes that make them unique are brand preference (e.g., a certain make of automobile)
or personal preference (e.g., a food dish prepared in a specific way). Other items that fall into this
category are wedding dresses, antiques, fine jewelry, and golf

allocated for every development stage and the project developer will have the independent authority
to make decisions working in line with the development strategy. The internal and external parties
will involve other actors as well who would support the development of the project. The internal
parties are including project team which are coming from all the departments of the project

and technical developer will plan and budget the construction and design process of the land site.
The external financing will be arranged by investment manager. The department of Legal and
Finance Control will be involved during the entire process with some regularity to communicate
possible risks, changes in legislation, cost overruns. However, there are a number of obstacles which
should be overcome in order to bring the project to fruition. To bring the project to fruition, the issue
of zoning in site analysis should not be overlooked. The approval for rezoning should be obtained in
order to avoid the potential problems in the land investment. Moreover, the analysis of existing and

Fishbein Theory Of Consumer Behaviour
Shwu lng Wu ( 2003) in his study "The relationship between consumer characteristics and attitude
toward online shopping" examined the internet users concerns and understandings of online
shopping. He measured the attitude of internet users about online shopping with the help of fishbein
model. Study showed that consumer attitudes can be measured by fishbein model and examined that
consumer characteristics are the main factors that influences the consumer attitudes and online
shopping behavior. All the consumer benefit perception factors positively influences consumer
attitudes towards online shopping. ( Page 41). Shwu Ing Wu says that marketers must adopt new
strategies to get the benefits of online shopping, convenience, more information, effectiveness and
modern, freedom of choice of products and frame the excellent home page to attract consumers to
buy goods and services. Fishbein model was framed so that consumers attitudes towards some

The industry's total current ratio is 1.34. The company's ability to pay off current–liabilities with
current assets is higher than the industry average ("Best Buy Co Inc (BBY.N) Quote| Reuters.com")
(Refer to appendix).
Main Issue
Best Buy was ahead of all the competitors in its industry. With changing consumer buying
preferences and new competitors entering the market, the industry is becoming more competitive
and the company is facing threats. Consumers are shifting their shopping preferences towards online
shopping more and more each day. The company's direct competitor is online retailer Amazon.com.
The number of people visiting the store is decreasing as more people are comparing prices and
purchasing online (La Monica, 2014).
Causes
Amzon.com offers consumer electronic products as well as products in other departments at lower
prices than competitors. For consumers who have an emergency need for a product, Amazon has
one–day shipping for most of its products. Online shopping is convenient for consumers, and they
have access to it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Amazon has Amazon Prime, Amazon Student,
and Amazon Mom; which offers services such as streaming of music and videos, free eBooks, and
free two–days shipping to its members ("Amazon.com").
Impacts
Best Buy is being impacted by online shopping and online media streaming. As a result of growing
online shopping and lower price alternatives, Best Buy's revenue is declining.

Brick And Mortar
Our group narrowed down the myriad of industries by analyzing data within the consumer
discretionary industry. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it represents
a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer discretionary
industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000–2015. We
decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has more
restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years.
We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar versus
Online. To begin working towards creating a threshold for this distinction, we pulled data relating to
fixed assets and total sales for companies within the retail industry. By utilizing the visualization
software, we could see a significant divide in the sales divided ... Show more content on

The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and depreciation. We
found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with restatement occurrence. We attribute this
to numerous factors, but have specifically reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage their
earnings when a steady increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We
reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a
firm's revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at
an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation
between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the
implementation of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act in 2002. The restatements within the retail industry
peaked in 2002 – 2004, but have been rapidly declining

The Impact of Online Apparel Stores on in-Store Shopping
The impact of online apparel stores on in–store shopping: A complement rather than a substitute
Abstract
Due to the fast development of the Internet and the growing popularity of online shopping, some
argue that the online shopping will substitute store shopping ultimately. For some products such as
books and tickets, that might be true, however, for product like apparel – a kind of high–risk and
hedonistic product, it is not the case. This essay demonstrates why it is less possible for online
apparel shopping to substitute store apparel shopping and how it serves as a complement for store
apparel shopping. Finally, some implications on how to make the online apparel shopping more
appealing are given. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Travel agencies, newspapers and telecommunication providers have all suffered severe competition
from internet– based substitutes (Grant, 1991). However, in–store apparel shopping is less
substitutable by online shopping. On the one hand, it is a product of high risk; on the other hand, the
apparel shopping trips to the city center can be more enjoyable.
2.1. Apparel – A product of high risk
According to Peter and Tarpey (1975), the risk here can be defined into six components: financial
risk, performance risk, physical risk, psychological risk, social risk and convenience risk.
Consumers perceive a higher level of risk when purchasing on the Internet compared with
traditional retail formats (Lee & Tan, 2003). However, not all products have the same level of
risks for online shopping. Bhatnagar, Misra, and Rao (2000) found that consumers might attempt to
purchase low–risk or easy–to–examine products such as books, CDs, and airline tickets by Internet
more than products more complex to assess online, such as apparel. In fact, the advent of online
bookshops such as Amazon has already severely damaged the profits of conventional bookstores.
However, for the products of higher risk, such as apparels, it is less possible that online shopping
will substitute in–store shopping. Due to the word limit, I will only examine financial risks and
performance risks that I think are mostly related in online apparel shopping.
The financial risk refers to the likelihood of

Shopping is a big deal to most people in this particular century. People are trained to shop a few
years after they are born. People shop for so many reasons. Some people shop to release stress and
others shop just for fun. Some people even classify shopping as a hobby. Just recently, a new kind of

kinds of shopping and it is all thanks to shoppers. Without these dedicated shoppers, shopping

makes identification easier. There are the cheap shoppers, the spendthrifts, and the indifferent
shoppers who simply don't carabout anything.

The Pros And Cons Of Buying Online?
Pros and Cons of Buying Online
There are many things that make us human, such as language, love, and labor markets. In this
modern age of technological progress, little has been spared the sweeping change that technology
brought. Trade, one of the most human of concepts, has not been an exception. From bartering to
banking to eBay, trade has certainly been through a lot. Yet what has this change entailed? There are
various advantages to embracing the era of buying online, such as spatial convenience and
information transparency, along with several potential disadvantages, such as monetary theft and
subpar service.
The major reason why consumers choose to shop online is because of the spatial convenience it
allows. That is, the consumer can, essentially, shop from the comfort of his home, in his pajamas, at
midnight, without any need for physical access whatsoever. Large distances shrink to null, time
becomes irrelevant, and shy customers can avoid those dreadful crowds. Chinese Ginseng tea? No
problem! Rare Russian comic books? One click away! An embarrassing fetish? Of course! A well–
documented study showed that the effect convenience has on consumers is rather statistically

online retailers, big box and mass merchant stores, department stores, smaller chain stores,

Regardless of the retailer that a consumer chooses, all retailers aim to satisfy their shoppers' needs
and strive to be the best in the business. In order to adequately and successfully do this, retailers
must develop a firm mission, vision, and have core values for how they will operate as a retailer to
meet the frequently changing demands of its consumer base. In addition, they must incorporate a
strategic plan that not only maintains the intent of their organizational mission, vision, and values,

Shopping Center Case Study
A second possibility for a future downtown–type of development might be a location near the
Highway 6 and 24 – Castle Valley Boulevard intersection. There is already a substantial amount of
commercial development in this area, albeit in a suburban land use form, that might support this
notion. More than likely, given the existing land use pattern, the social and gathering area (a future
Downtown) would need to be sited to the east of the exiting shopping center development.

There is already substantial traffic and road infrastructure in this area to support a downtown–like
commercial center. Moreover, to the extent that this concept generates additional traffic, it will have
very little impact on the existing Castle Valley and Lakota Ranch neighborhoods. The existing peace
and solitude of those neighborhoods can be preserved. In all likelihood, for those visiting the
community this location would be easy to find, something that may be more difficult for a location
in Castle Valley or the current location. In general, this location can serve most of the key functions
that a downtown must fulfill in the community – a place that provides the social life, connectivity
and entertainment of the community for all ages.
While this site may make more sense than a Castle Valley location, there are significant issues to
consider here. First, to create a true downtown setting, serving the type of role described above, the
Town Hall, Library and Community Center should ideally be moved to this location. The
community already has substantial investment in this facilities at their current location.
Second, there remain a substantial number of unbuilt residential units in the Lakota and Castle
Valley neighborhoods. It may not make sense for the community to approve a large number of
additional residential units at this time. Therefore, a project like this may take many years to bring to

The Truman Corner Shopping Center
Please note that the table excludes the existing Truman Corner Shopping Center, which will be
redeveloped into the proposed Truman's Marketplace. There is about 2.5 million SF of retail space
in major centers located within five miles of the site. About 40% of this space is within three miles
of the site. The further away the center is from the redevelopment site the less likely it will provide
competition with Truman's Marketplace. In our opinion, retail centers such as Ward Parkway,
Stateline Station and those in Leawood are far enough away that they would serve a separate
market. Even much of the space within three miles of the site is predominately older, poorly
maintained product that may not effectively compete with the proposed project. Just beyond the five
mile radius from the site are several newer retail centers that either were developed or will be
developed by principals of Legacy Truman. All of these properties are located in Lee's Summit and
represent major concentrations of retail and restaurant space at the I–470 and US 50/MO 350

Online Shopping Conduct And Internet Shopping Essay
INTRODUCTION
Online shopping is almost to synonymous to customary shopping through brick and mortar stores.
As indicated by UCLA Center for Communication Policy, online shopping has been rising as a
standout among the most famous web exercises, marginally behind e–mailing and internet surfing
and in addition surpasses online entertainment search and online news. Online shopping conduct
(additionally called web purchasing conduct and Internet shopping/purchasing conduct) implies to
the procedure of buying merchandise/goods or services by means of the Internet. In a standard
online shopping procedure, potential customer's see/feel/sense a necessity for some good or service
and they approach to online shopping to search about the product/service and make a purchase
decision to gratify the need. In some cases, instead of looking for intentionally, once in a while
potential customers are pulled in by information about merchandise or services joined with the felt
need. They then evaluate decisions and pick the specific alternative that best fits their criteria for
meeting the obliged need. Finally, the purchase is made and post–purchase services are given. In this
term paper I explore the various attitudes, behaviors and traits exhibited by consumers during this
online purchase decision, factors which facilitate and influence their decision making. Online
shopping behavior here also refers to consumers' psychological state and intent in terms of making

Factors Influencing A Shopping Center
Times have changed. Nowadays, shopping is not just a necessity like it was before but it's much
more than that. Factors influencing a customer's choice on choosing a shopping center mainly
depend on its location, ambience, and an array of choice made available to customers. The rapid
growth of these shopping centers is a proof of consumer behavior being positive to such change.
Howard (2007) trusts shopping to be a leisure search and with the fast increase in the number of
shopping centers, both retailers and developers are trying to make it more of a pleasure goings–on.
Convenience, accessibility, mall facilities, shopping environment, and leisure factors play an
important role in attracting customers to a shopping mall and those factors have been supported by
past literature.

Why We Buy Underhill
In Underhill's book "Why we buy", Underhill (2009) argued that in the US, customers walk towards
the right after entering the store entrance, so the front right portion would be the most visited part of
the store. Also, with a right–hand dominance, the most convenient place to place a product is on the
right side when the customer is facing the shelf. With the same argument, Underhill infers that in the
UK and Australia, with a left–hand dominance, the customer would walk to the left after entering
the store, so the front left portion of the store is most–visited, and the best place to put a product is
on the left when the customer is facing the shelf. Putting myself in the shoe of Gap about to open a
store in London, I would test Underhill's hypothesis to see if it is true. If Underhill is right, I would
design the store to take advantage on the way people walk in the UK, that is, towrds the left of the
store, so that I can influence the buying decision of the UK customers. ... Show more content on

Disadvantages Of Food Indonalds
To keep up with competitors, food retailers are adding restaurants and carryouts to their stores.
Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no–frills brands to
compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food
clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them from
coming off as monopolistic. Consumers want to shop at stores that are easier for them. By adding
restaurants to stores, consumers may say that buying food from those restaurants may seem easier
than going home to cook a meal with the food items they just bought. As the saying goes, never go
to the store hungry because having restaurants within a store will attract more customers because
they are hungry while they are shopping. Food retailers want their stores to seem more convenient
and better for shoppers, that they must find ways to draw more customers in and by adding in–store
restaurants and carryouts they can do so.
Instead of going to different stores because of the different prices, customers are going to pay for
items no matter the price, so they do not have to travel to another store. If the store offers those
products, then customers will buy the items instead because it is more convenient. Even though the
price of one item may be cheaper at another store, customers are still going to put the item in the
basket because they do not want to have to get out at another store just for

The company eating that cost has the potential to further increase sales as the customer may spend
more since the shipping is free. The last boost in discounts would be with taxes. Buying online, a
customer doesn't have to pay taxes if there isn't a store location within the state (Chang 4) Brick and
mortar stores may have the upper hand when it comes to discounts. Local sale ads can reveal
money–saving sales that can vary between time periods. Customers can plan shopping trips around
the posted sales. In addition to sale ads, newspaper coupons can save a lot of money. Combining the
two can save even more when customers take into account what the store sales are and then collect
coupons for the items on sale to deepen discounts further (Keegan 6). Customer loyalty scan cards
are another way that can save money in the store. Once signed up, loyalty cards can personalize
future discounts or coupons based on past purchases on top of discounts included during the current
purchase transaction (Buderi 4). These loyalty scan cards many times can be used in conjunction
with other sales and added coupons. Another option for brick and mortar stores is price matching. To
compete with online stores, brick and mortar stores can opt to equal a sale price advertised at
another store. On the idea of customer service in the online world, trying to reach someone by phone

shopping center nearby you can buy potatoes, beer, vodka, a blouse, a bra, a glue, slippers, a towel,
a garden figurine, a wiping cloth, a flat–head screwdriver, a cross–head screwdriver, cigarettes,

The League 's Best Center For The Past Seasons
1. DeMarcus Cousins– Sacramento Kings DeMarcus Cousins has been the league's best center for
the past few seasons. Night in and night out, Cousins produces at an All–Star caliber level.
Unfortunately he hasn't been recognized for immense talent due to the ineptitude of the franchise he
plays for (yeah, I'm looking at you Sacramento). Last season was Cousins' best, he finished the year
with per game averages of 26.9 points (4th in the league), 11.5 rebounds (5th in the league), and 1.4
blocks. He capped of the season with his second consecutive All–NBA Second Team appearance.
Cousins is a force on the offensive end of the floor; very seldom do opposing teams contain him at
that end of the floor. The scariest thing about Cousins' game is ... Show more content on

With the emergence of his game on the offensive end of the floor, Jordan was rewarded– being
named to the All–NBA First Team this past season. Jordan had a career year. He finished the season
with per game averages of 12.7 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Although he didn't
lead the NBA in rebounding this past season, he leads the NBA in total rebounds over the last three
seasons, finishing first in that category twice. Jordan's athletic ability is his biggest strength. It
allows the Clippers' to run their free–flowing, fast up–tempo offense at a peek level. Without Jordan
the offense and defense would function at much more inefficient level. The only knock on Jordan's
game is his inability to convert at the free–throw line. He's among the worst free–throw shooters in
NBA history, but even so, Jordan's value should not be overlooked. He's just as important to the
Clippers as Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. 4. Andre Drummond– Detroit Pistons Since entering the
league in 2012, Andre Drummond has evolved immensely as a player. When he entered the league,
Drummond was a liability on both ends of the floor– showing an inability to play efficiently on
either end, but now, four short years later, Drummond is absolute force on both ends of the floor. His

The Lab Shopping Center Is A Palace Of Consumption

  • 1. The Lab Shopping Center Is A Palace Of Consumption The LAB shopping center in Costa Mesa, California proudly calls itself the "anti–mall," a place where traditional conceptions of retail do not apply and consumerism is cool once again. Except that this is not the case. Though they would have you believe you're a hint hipper and more culturally conscious than the average person for shopping their stores, like all shopping malls, the anti–mall's chief agenda is to garner reliable vendors, pull a crowd, exploit wallets, and cash in. The LAB, like all retail centers, is a palace of consumption. But, unlike most, the LAB champions a particularly aggressive brand of pretension in the good name of its marketing. The LAB, which self–describes itself as the "anti–mall," seeks to distance itself from preconceived ideas of the monolithic shopping mall complete with capacious, empty architecture, alienating spacial design, and bland, corporate imagery. If normal shopping malls represent complacent conformity, the anti–mall gives hope that capitalism can still be young, edgy, rebellious, but most importantly, individualistic. The LAB seeks to prove itself as place for individuals and freethinkers. Viewed from afar, with its brick–clad facade, the LAB evokes the images of an art collective, a downtown music venue, and a smoky subcultural hub all rolled into one. One thinks of trendy coffee shops, a dense, urban, communal lifestyle, and worker–owned bookstores filled with radical and subversive literature. In reality, The LAB provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Northen (1984), the reasons of renovation of shopping mall are functional obsolescence of the centre, change in surrounding demographic pattern, new competition with nearby shopping centre, and withdrawal of major anchor tenant. To deal with these forces, renovation works are to be carried out. According to Hassanaian and Al– Mudhei (2006), renovation could bring positive effects to the shopping centre. The four major elements of renovation includes design and layout, catchment area, trade and tenant mix, and branding. The renovation could improve the internal space and facilities, maximize the profit, capture more potential customers and build a good image. Design and Layout The renovation of the shopping centre could improve the internal space and facilities. The shopping centre could be redesign and the layout of the shopping centre could be reset. CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN SHOPPING CENTER CHOICE VEYSEL YILMAZ Osmangazi University, Eski^ehir, Turkey This study was designed to research factors which consumers consider when choosing a shopping center and to develop a suggestion model for shopping center choice. First a questionnaire about choosing a shopping center was fonned. Then the questionnaire was given to 300 randomly chosen consumers and collected on the next day. Two hundred and sixty–two fully filled out questionnaires were analyzed. Besides demographic questions, effective factors determining people 's shopping center choice were asked for 17 items. Golob (2001a) tested a series of joint models of attitude and behavior to explain how both mode choice and attitudes regarding a combined household variables and toll facility (HOT lanes) differ across the population. Applying Weighted Least Squares (WLS) estimation to a data set from San Diego, California, the author demonstrates that choices appear to influence some opinions and perceptions, but other opinions and perceptions are independent of behavior and dependent only upon exogenous personal and household variables. None of the models tested found any significant effects of attitudes on choice. Most papers written have focused on the variables explaining the attraction of shopping center choice (e.g., Suarez, Rodriguez del Bosque, Rodriguez–Poo, & Moral, 2004: Degeratu, Rangaswamy, & Wu, 2000; Severin, Louviere, & Finn, 2001). They have always used logit models and a random effect model. Degeratu et al. focus specifically on assessing whether or not brand names and price have an impact on choices online and in traditional supermarkets. Severin et al. investigated use of relatively recent developments in random utility theory to assess the stability over time and space of the preferences underlying retailshopping ... • 13. Shopping Center At Rayzor Ranch Marketplace I. Selected Shopping Center Rayzor Ranch Marketplace has a diverse selection of 42 retailers covering an 800,000 square foot lot. The marketplace was established in Fall of 2010. It is located off of Highway 380 and University Dr. in Denton, Texas. Having only been around for 5 years the shopping center appears very contemporary compared to older shopping centers nearby. The parking lots are clean and trash free and the paint stripes are easily visible. The landscape is very well kept and there are potted flowers in the gathering areas. Overall the shopping center provides a refreshing look to the community. II. Location The Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is conveniently located on University Dr. one of Denton's busiest streets. Located across the street is another shopping center and a total of 3 gas stations surrounding the location. There are 3 main entrances to the shopping center. Consumers can also access the center through a gas station parking lot located right next to the shopping center. Although the traffic is usually free flowing, during rush hours the entryways can become congested. The Shopping Center is constantly booming and has increased the traffic flow in the area. The success of the shopping center would lead me to conclusion that center is a destination. III. Retailer Composition Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is anchored by a Wal–Mart supercenter. A supercenter is defined as a "Large store (150,000 to 220,000 square feet) combining a discount store with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people can range from many different stereotypes such as: the Cheapskate, the Impulsive Buyer, and the Hater. Even though these people have different attitudes toward shopping, they all have the same goal: which is to to shop. Coupons, sales, rewards, and memberships are the holy grail to a shopping Cheapskate. They are the people we see at the checkout with a book of coupons and dollar signs in their eyes. Cheapskates are individuals who never buy anything full price and will stop at nothing to save a buck. These singular identities use coupons all the time and only shop on sales racks. Overall, I am proud to say that I am an impulsive buyer rather than a person who despises shopping: a Hater. A Hater is someone who would want to have nothing to do with the art of shopping. Shopping, to them, is a complete and utter waste of time. These people usually complain a lot before, during, and even after the shopping trip. They would rather do anything else besides shopping and will do anything to avoid it. Consumer Goods Classification Introduction: The classification of goods (physical products) is essential to business because it provides a basis for determining the strategies needed to move them through the marketing system. The two main forms of classifications are consumer goods and industrial goods. We are interested in this paper to elaborate more on Consumer Goods Classification only. Consumer Goods: Consumer goods are defined as goods that are bought from retail stores for personal, family, or household use. For price–based shopping goods, consumers judge product attributes to be similar and look around for the least expensive item/store. Consumers will exert effort in searching for information, because shopping goods are bought infrequently. Hyundai Automobile and store–brand clothes are marketed as price–based shopping goods. Because customers are going to shop for these goods, a fundamental strategy in establishing stores that specialize in them is to locate near similar stores in active shopping areas, in other words, shopping goods require selective distribution. Ongoing strategies for marketing shopping goods include the heavy use of advertising in local media, including newspapers, radio, and television. Advertising for shopping goods is often done cooperatively with the manufacturers of the goods. Specialty Goods: Specialty goods are items that are unique or unusual–at least in the mind of the buyer. Buyers know exactly what they want and are willing to exert considerable effort to obtain it. These goods are usually, but not necessarily, of high value, and they may or may not be durable goods. They differ from shopping goods primarily because price is not the chief consideration. Often the attributes that make them unique are brand preference (e.g., a certain make of automobile) or personal preference (e.g., a food dish prepared in a specific way). During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it represents a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer discretionary industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000–2015. We decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has more restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years. We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar versus Online. We reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a firm's revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the implementation of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act in 2002. Travel agencies, newspapers and telecommunication providers have all suffered severe competition from internet– based substitutes (Grant, 1991). However, in–store apparel shopping is less substitutable by online shopping. On the one hand, it is a product of high risk; on the other hand, the apparel shopping trips to the city center can be more enjoyable. 2.1. Apparel – A product of high risk According to Peter and Tarpey (1975), the risk here can be defined into six components: financial risk, performance risk, physical risk, psychological risk, social risk and convenience risk. Consumers perceive a higher level of risk when purchasing on the Internet compared with traditional retail formats (Lee & Tan, 2003). However, not all products have the same level of risks for online shopping. Bhatnagar, Misra, and Rao (2000) found that consumers might attempt to purchase low–risk or easy–to–examine products such as books, CDs, and airline tickets by Internet more than products more complex to assess online, such as apparel. In fact, the advent of online bookshops such as Amazon has already severely damaged the profits of conventional bookstores. However, for the products of higher risk, such as apparels, it is less possible that online shopping will substitute in–store shopping. They are easily recognized in any store because they are usually armed with a calculator and search through the hardest to get at shelves. They are often seen working in pairs. They call their selves tag team partners. Working I pairs enables cheap shoppers to readily compare prices from items in different sections of the store or two separate stores. These shoppers can be found mainly on the weekend, during a huge sale, or in the clearance sections of stores. They are always shopping for cheap items and they are never concerned about the quality. • 95. The Pros And Cons Of Buying Online? Pros and Cons of Buying Online There are many things that make us human, such as language, love, and labor markets. In this modern age of technological progress, little has been spared the sweeping change that technology brought. Trade, one of the most human of concepts, has not been an exception. From bartering to banking to eBay, trade has certainly been through a lot. Yet what has this change entailed? There are various advantages to embracing the era of buying online, such as spatial convenience and information transparency, along with several potential disadvantages, such as monetary theft and subpar service. The major reason why consumers choose to shop online is because of the spatial convenience it allows. That is, the consumer can, essentially, shop from the comfort of his home, in his pajamas, at midnight, without any need for physical access whatsoever. Large distances shrink to null, time becomes irrelevant, and shy customers can avoid those dreadful crowds. Chinese Ginseng tea? No problem! Rare Russian comic books? One click away! An embarrassing fetish? Of course! A well– documented study showed that the effect convenience has on consumers is rather statistically significant. It says, ... They have the option to shop at online retailers, big box and mass merchant stores, department stores, smaller chain stores, individual kiosk, and other local or international convenient stores to fill their shopping needs. Regardless of the retailer that a consumer chooses, all retailers aim to satisfy their shoppers' needs and strive to be the best in the business. In order to adequately and successfully do this, retailers must develop a firm mission, vision, and have core values for how they will operate as a retailer to meet the frequently changing demands of its consumer base. In addition, they must incorporate a strategic plan that not only maintains the intent of their organizational mission, vision, and values, but also serves as a method to outsmart competitors in order to maintain their customer base. There is already a substantial amount of commercial development in this area, albeit in a suburban land use form, that might support this notion. More than likely, given the existing land use pattern, the social and gathering area (a future Downtown) would need to be sited to the east of the exiting shopping center development. There is already substantial traffic and road infrastructure in this area to support a downtown–like commercial center. Moreover, to the extent that this concept generates additional traffic, it will have very little impact on the existing Castle Valley and Lakota Ranch neighborhoods. The existing peace and solitude of those neighborhoods can be preserved. In all likelihood, for those visiting the community this location would be easy to find, something that may be more difficult for a location in Castle Valley or the current location. In general, this location can serve most of the key functions that a downtown must fulfill in the community – a place that provides the social life, connectivity and entertainment of the community for all ages. While this site may make more sense than a Castle Valley location, there are significant issues to consider here. First, to create a true downtown setting, serving the type of role described above, the Town Hall, Library and Community Center should ideally be moved to this location. The community already has substantial investment in this facilities at their current location. Second, there remain a substantial number of unbuilt residential units in the Lakota and Castle Valley neighborhoods. It may not make sense for the community to approve a large number of additional residential units at this time. Therefore, a project like this may take many years to bring to ... There is about 2.5 million SF of retail space in major centers located within five miles of the site. About 40% of this space is within three miles of the site. The further away the center is from the redevelopment site the less likely it will provide competition with Truman's Marketplace. In our opinion, retail centers such as Ward Parkway, Stateline Station and those in Leawood are far enough away that they would serve a separate market. Even much of the space within three miles of the site is predominately older, poorly maintained product that may not effectively compete with the proposed project. Just beyond the five mile radius from the site are several newer retail centers that either were developed or will be developed by principals of Legacy Truman. As indicated by UCLA Center for Communication Policy, online shopping has been rising as a standout among the most famous web exercises, marginally behind e–mailing and internet surfing and in addition surpasses online entertainment search and online news. Online shopping conduct (additionally called web purchasing conduct and Internet shopping/purchasing conduct) implies to the procedure of buying merchandise/goods or services by means of the Internet. In a standard online shopping procedure, potential customer's see/feel/sense a necessity for some good or service and they approach to online shopping to search about the product/service and make a purchase decision to gratify the need. They then evaluate decisions and pick the specific alternative that best fits their criteria for meeting the obliged need. Finally, the purchase is made and post–purchase services are given. Factors influencing a customer's choice on choosing a shopping center mainly depend on its location, ambience, and an array of choice made available to customers. The rapid growth of these shopping centers is a proof of consumer behavior being positive to such change. Howard (2007) trusts shopping to be a leisure search and with the fast increase in the number of shopping centers, both retailers and developers are trying to make it more of a pleasure goings–on. Convenience, accessibility, mall facilities, shopping environment, and leisure factors play an important role in attracting customers to a shopping mall and those factors have been supported by past literature. Why We Buy Underhill In Underhill's book "Why we buy", Underhill (2009) argued that in the US, customers walk towards the right after entering the store entrance, so the front right portion would be the most visited part of the store. Also, with a right–hand dominance, the most convenient place to place a product is on the right side when the customer is facing the shelf. With the same argument, Underhill infers that in the UK and Australia, with a left–hand dominance, the customer would walk to the left after entering the store, so the front left portion of the store is most–visited, and the best place to put a product is on the left when the customer is facing the shelf. Putting myself in the shoe of Gap about to open a store in London, I would test Underhill's hypothesis to see if it is true. • 132. Disadvantages Of Food Indonalds To keep up with competitors, food retailers are adding restaurants and carryouts to their stores. Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no–frills brands to compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them from coming off as monopolistic. Consumers want to shop at stores that are easier for them. By adding restaurants to stores, consumers may say that buying food from those restaurants may seem easier than going home to cook a meal with the food items they just bought. As the saying goes, never go to the store hungry because having restaurants within a store will attract more customers because they are hungry while they are shopping. Food retailers want their stores to seem more convenient and better for shoppers, that they must find ways to draw more customers in and by adding in–store restaurants and carryouts they can do so. Instead of going to different stores because of the different prices, customers are going to pay for items no matter the price, so they do not have to travel to another store. If the store offers those products, then customers will buy the items instead because it is more convenient. Even though the price of one item may be cheaper at another store, customers are still going to put the item in the basket because they do not want to have to get out at another store just for ... Local sale ads can reveal money–saving sales that can vary between time periods. Customers can plan shopping trips around the posted sales. In addition to sale ads, newspaper coupons can save a lot of money. Combining the two can save even more when customers take into account what the store sales are and then collect coupons for the items on sale to deepen discounts further (Keegan 6). Customer loyalty scan cards are another way that can save money in the store. Once signed up, loyalty cards can personalize future discounts or coupons based on past purchases on top of discounts included during the current purchase transaction (Buderi 4).
