Charles Dickens Accomplishments
Charles Dickens, a most well–known and loved British author of a large number of works that are
now classics, was the foremost writer and public celebrity of the nineteenth century, he used his
personal experiences and hard times that he lived through as inspiration to write about his stories.
During the time of his career in writing, he wrote the well–known and most loved classics, A
Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Nicholas Nickleby, Great Expectations and A
Tale of Two Cities. Dickens became so famous that people would recognize him all over London as
he walked around the city observing things that would be the inspiration for his future writings.

This story tells of the transformation that Ebenezer Scrooge went through from a tight–fisted
tempered person to a generous and friendly man. This is brought about by haunting visions at
Christmas that remind Scrooge of his happier days, until the generous spirit shows him misfortunes.
This terrifies him with urgent prospects if he should not change his ways ("Dickens"). "He had no
further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and
it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the
knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us,
Every One!"(Dickens 92) This is from the ending lines of A Christmas Carol and shows the moral

Contributions Of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn't exactly succeed in the school institution even
though his family was wealthy, they didn't help Darwin with his courses in college. Dr. Robert
Darwin, Darwin's father sent him to medical school at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin flunked
out and was sent to Cambridge University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John Henslow
took Darwin scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like Captain Robert
Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy's naturalist unpaid
companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a survey of the southern coast of South
American and to obtain more accurate fixes of longitudes by using new instruments. Darwin plans
were to observe and collect specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin's most significant discoveries
was his discovery of the finches located on the Galápagos Islands. The finches were a major key to
Darwin's theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle also gave Charles Darwin the
idea of the theory of evolution and natural selection.
Darwin's voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining moment of his
career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75 individuals. Darwin had a
different position on the ship as his counterparts. His father paid his way on the beagle which gave
him perks that his fellow naturalist did not have (Janice c

Charles Darwin Contributions
No other author has had more of an impact on the way we think about the world around us than
Charles Darwin has. From research labs, to classrooms, Darwin's scientific findings and literary
work have greatly influenced how we see the living world. A true scientific pioneer, Darwin
shocked the highly religious people of his time by sharing his findings and theories about evolution
in his book On the Origin of Species. The theories in his book continue to impact the way the
natural world is seen today, but they were not always well received. (Desmond) Walter Karp makes
note of this in his book Charles Darwin and the Origin of Species: "All species of living things had
developed solely through the working of a certain natural process that Darwin had discovered and
no revealed in his book... In the history of science no theory was ever so instantly and savagely
attacked," (Karp 11). Despite skepticism and resistance from others, Charles Darwin managed to be
one of the greatest influences on society and science of all time, and his theories have become the
basis for many scientific breakthroughs and secular arguments. Charles Darwin was born in
Shrewsbury, England on February 12, 1809 to a Dr. Robert Darwin and Susannah Wedgwood (Karp
11). From an early age, Darwin took an interest in the sciences even though it was condemned by
the religious English public schools at the time. Eventually, he reached university where he met a
professor and mentor who proposed a trip to

Charles Dawin
Charles Darwin is a naturalist, well known for his studies on evolution. In 1871 he wrote The
Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, which explored evidence pertaining to
anatomical, medical, embryological, and behavioral differences amongst species. His research
findings showed that the human embryo develops the body, cells, proteins, blood, and DNA in
developmental stages similar to other species. Darwin also concluded there is evidence that strongly
suggests that humans have a common ancestry with apes, more specifically chimpanzees
(Stevenson, Haberman, & Wright, 2013, p. 250). In addition to Dawin's findings, Diamond (1992)
further suggests how humans have evolved away from apes. Major differences that began to

Around the 1950's a new discipline began to emerge, ethology, which focused on animal behavior in
its natural environment. Niko Tinbergen, one ethology's founding fathers, distinguished four
questions to ask when a specific behavior is performed. "What was the internal physiological cause
of the behavior?" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 267) the behavior occurred due to an internal change.
For example, if the behavior occurred due to hormone secretion or a muscle contraction. "What in
the development or experience of the individual prepared the way for that behavior?" (Stevenson et
al., 2013, p. 268) if a complication occurred in the development of the fetus in the womb it could
prevent sexual maturity, ultimately creating an excuse for abnormal behavior. "What is the function
of the behavior" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 268) the individual is behaving this particular way in
order to achieve some sort of goal. "What is the evolutionary history of this pattern of behavior"
(Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 268) by examining ancestral behavior patterns we can distinguish their
intentions or adaptations. These four questions pertaining to behavior can be applied to almost all
species, including humans, both male and

Charles Wesley Biography
" She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
(Matt. 1:1 ESV)
Sunday was Charles Wesley's birthday. I've always liked Charles Wesley, for more than just his
prolific hymn writing. And make no mistake he was prolific. what amazes me about Wesley is not
just how many hymsn he wrote, but how many theologically rich, musically sound they are. it's one
thing to write a lot of hymns. It's quite another to write so many good ones.
While I admire, respect, and am indebted to Charles' older brother John for so many things, I don't

His interference in the love life of his brother caused a tremendous rift between them for many
years. It seems that while he wasn't willing to risk his personal happiness for the sake of the
movement, h was wilignto risk John's. I don't believe Charles was being hypocritical. I think he saw
Joh as being more important, or at least a greater driving force behind Methodism, and he feared
what might happen if John settled down.
So no, although I think Charles might have been more fun to hang out with He was simply different
than his brother. The Wesleys embody the idea that God sues the entire Body fo Christ without
different gits, and personalities to further the Kingdom of God. Perhaps rather than spending so

Essay On Charles Manson
How does someone get sentenced to death row for murders without actually killing a single person?
For someone whose specialty is brainwashing and cult–building, this is quite the simple feat. In the
words of Charles Manson, "We're not in Wonderland anymore Alice." To even remotely
comprehend the mind of Manson, one must dive headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders,
and current imprisonment. Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Manson is
no different. On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing, criminally
involved, 16–year–old girl in Ohio ("Manson Family"). She is said to have sold him for a single
pitcher of beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was only the start of an extremely troubled life.
By the age of 9, Manson had gone from residing with family members to living at reformatory
schools. He was beginning to follow in his mother's footsteps, also committing his first theft at this
age (Henderson). Young Charlie's life would take an even sharper downward turn as the years
progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired his followers to do the
unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a "family" (Abbas). However, this one
would be far different than any other family to ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for
several young girls whom he lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race
war would bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would prevail.
During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only to emerge and take over
the world because he thought the African Americans would be unfit to lead themselves. He even
referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate (Abbas). All of Manson's predictions came from what
he thought were hidden messages in the song "Helter Skelter" by the Beetles (Henderson). It seemed
as if all that was left to do was wait for the end to come. When the apocalypse failed to start,
Manson took matters into his own hands. His master plan was to send members of his cult to
commit murders, thinking African Americans would be blamed, thus the start of the race war. The
first round of murders are

Charles Darwin's Life
Charles Darwin was an English naturalist, which is now known as a biologist, who is best known
for his contributions to the theory of evolution by natural selection and his interest in the Galapagos
Islands through the adaption of species. The life of Darwin was highly influenced through his
childhood. His family greatly helped Charles with their financial and moral support aboard the
H.M.S. Beagle, "the voyage [which] took nearly five years, from December 1831 to October 1836."

intrigued Darwin, where he discovered species such as "the marine iguana, the giant tortoise, the

The distribution of plants and animals in the Galapagos was puzzling to Darwin; where did these
species originate from? Why don't the same species appear in similar environments? Many species
only lived on the Galapagos –– and sometimes, only one certain island. How did these species end
up there? There were species on the Galapagos such as insects and reptiles that resembled some
species in South America, but were also different in very slight ways. Darwin began to wonder if
species would travel to the Galapagos, and then adapt to their new environments over time. If two
species came from a common ancestor, it would make sense for them to live together. For example,
Darwin's' finches he discovered on the Galapagos had differently sized beaks. These beaks would
differ in size according to the area these birds were in –– "their appearance and behavior quickly
adapted to this closed and rapidly changing environment."

Charles Darwin
I. Introduction
"A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life", (Charles Darwin).
Darwin meant that our lives are meant to be spent doing the things we want to do and what would
better ourselves. Darwin spent his life doing what he wanted to do rather than what others would
have approved of. Charles Darwin was an important and influential figure in history that had a
positive impact on the world because he had introduced many important ideas of evolution to the
world that challenged its current rules of life.
II. Early life/Childhood
According to his autobiography, Charles Darwin came into the world on February 12, 1809, in

Significant Accomplishments Some of Darwin's greatest accomplishments were writing a total of
twenty–five books in his life about the field of biology. His theories on natural selection how it
affected the evolution of species, greatly bettered the field and now stands as the basis of the field of
evolution. He was the one to phrase his most memorable quote, "Survival of the fittest", which
describes how only the best organisms of a species can reproduce.
V. Impact on the World Darwin made a grand impact on the world by introducing many people into
evolution and disproved the principles of Creationism with his theories on natural selection and
evolution (Darwinism). His contributions to science field in biology and geology changed how the
world sees' life's history as not instantaneous rather a slow ongoing process.
VI. Lesson Learned From Their Life (Conclusion)
To end it all off, Charles Darwin challenged the current ideas of science at his time and changed it
for the better with his studies and theories. Had he given up, we would not likely have our current
understanding of the world of evolution and the history of life. Darwin showed us that we should

Charles Baudelaire's "The Painter of Modern Life"
Charles Baudelaire's "The Painter of Modern Life" is a very beautiful well written essay.
The tone of his work is formal. Before I read Baudelaire's essay I assumed it was going to be all
about modern art and how it came about. As I was reading the essay, I learned that it was about so
much more than that.
Charles Baudelaire begins his essay very effectively. He starts his reading out by expressing his
opinion about the world and the world of artist, sharing the different mindsets of how people view
art and artist as a whole. For example, he stated "Raphael and Racine do not have the whole secret,
and minor poets too have something good." He then gives a vivid ... Show more content on

M.G. doesn't put his name on his pieces. Baudelaire believes that the artist's nature is obviously
clear in his works, and even without a signature you can still tell it was created by him. "All his
works are signed with his dazzling soul." M.G.'s knowledge of materials and capability of art
making are referred to as being a gift. This leads to
Baudelaire's distinction between what constitutes artist verses man of the world, because M.G. is
mentioned to as a man of the world, rather than just an artist. Baudelaire goes on explaining the past
and present of the value of art and how the world is mending its ways.
This reading makes me think of art in a new light. It makes me realize that it's more to it than what I
thought. While reading Baudelaire essay, I got a feeling of delight, a sense of life overflowing with
itself, which makes you want to jump up as to not miss another second of it

Charles Darwin was a man who shaped the way in which we think about evolution in modern times.
He brought forth and described the theory of natural selection and survival of the fittest. To fully

Darwin immediately was interested, but he was sure that his father would object to the idea.
His father rejected the scheme on the following grounds: It would be disreputable to his character as
a Clergyman, it was a wild scheme, and they must have offered many people before him. (White
and Gribben 49). Darwin was desperate to win his father's approval knowing that it would be his
only chance to make this once in a lifetime voyage. There was no way that Charles could afford this
pricey expedition. He saw no hope until his best friend Jos Wedgewood, whom Dr. Darwin
respected greatly, helped Charles compose a letter to his father pointing out the pluses of the
voyage. Soon thereafter, Robert gave his approval.
The Beagle's purpose was to secure a final survey of the South American continent for trade safety
reasons. The captain of the ship, Robert Fitzroy, and Darwin hit it off immediately. The Beagle was
a very small ship, measuring only 90 feet. (White and Gribben 53). On December 27, 1831 the ship
left the port of Devonport. Darwin immediately became sick and remained ill for most of the
voyage. The trip also had its light points. Upon crossing the equator, the Captain took it upon
himself to perform the time old ritual on the 31–crew members. Beginning with Darwin, each sailor
was tarred and feathered, which soon after resulted in a huge water fight. Darwin wrote in his

Who is Charles Lyell?
Charles Lyell Charles Lyell was a British lawyer and one the smartest geologist known in his time.
He was known as the author of the Principles of Geology, which helped popularize the theories and
concepts of uniformitarianism. The Principles of Geology was the first book written by Lyell and
explained the changes of the earth's surface. He used the research and information in the book as his
proof to determine that the earth was over 6,000 years old. The central argument in his book was
"the present is the key to the past", this meant that to find out what happened in the past you had to
look at what was happening now. It explained that changes which happened in the past, were
happening in the present, and will happen in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lyell's geological interests were ranged from volcanoes and geological dynamics through
stratigraphy, palaeontology, and glaciology to prehistoric archaeology and paleoanthropology.
Although he is best known for popularizing uniformitarianism, Lyell also had interests in
earthquakes such a faults, fissures, stratigraphic displacements and depressions. Lyell's work on
volcanoes was largely studied and he focused on the two named Vesuvius and Etna. He felt strongly
that volcanoes built up gradually. Lyell's most important work was in the field of Stratigraphy. From
May 1828 to February 1829, Lyell traveled with Roderick Impey Murchison to the volcano district
in the south of France and Italy. It was during this time that he concluded that the recent rock layers
could be named and outlined according to the amount and proportion of marine shells encased
within them. Lyell renamed what used to be known as the Tertiary period which had three parts
which were Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary into what are now Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic
eras. The change was gradually accepted worldwide. In glaciology, Lyell proposed that glaciers
could be transported from erratics. He believed that ice breaks off and floats during the melting
period or global warming and carries debris with it. Lyell believed that the accumulation of the
angular particles that cover the world was a deposit settled from mountain flood water. Lyell's

my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a
necessity for me–like food or water." (Azquotes.com) Those were one of Ray Charles's most famous
quotes. Ray Charles was the best rhythm and blues musician of all times. His love for music started
at a young age and took him far in his future years. Above is a great musician he suffered great
losses on his road to success. Ray Charles has faced many problems that a regular person couldn't

year later his brother George was born. Ray and his brother used to spend a long time together, and
they both had a bond that couldn't be broken. Ever since he was born Ray's father was never there to
support them. Both children have been raised by Aretha Robinson, their devoted and caring mother,
and Mary Jane, his mother's loyal and caring friend. (Ford 10) The Robinson family were very poor,
but Ray's mother worked her hardest to make sure they never went one night without food. Ray's
mother taught them to be responsible and how not to rely on anyone else but themselves at a very
young age. One of the important things that Ray learned was how to do his chores, otherwise, he

"Since boy hood Lyell had been an enthusiastic amateur entomologist, and now his interest has been
aroused in Geology." (Boyer 564)
In July 1817 Lyell visited his fathers friend Turner at Yarmouth, Norfolk, where he studied the
effects of the interaction of the Yare River with the sea in forming the delta on which Yarmouth
stood. In March 1819 Lyell was elected to the geological society of London and in the same year to
the linnean Society. He was also entered into Lincoln's Inn where he began to study law. While Lyell
was studying for his degree examinations at Oxford, his eyes began to give him extreme pain. He
realized that his eyes could not sustain the intense reading that was needed for his legal studies.
(Boyer 546)
In the summer of 1821 Lyell visited his old school at Sussex and became very curious about the
geology of Sussex. In 1827 he finally left the legal profession and devoted himself to Geology. At
this time he had already began to plan his chief work The principles of Geology. " This gives the
keynote of the task to which Lyell devoted his life" (Boyer 568). In this book Lyell discusses his
theory that shows that in the course of gradual changes, species after species of living creatures had

Charles The Lamb Analysis
In the two illuminations, a unity of appearance and attributes links Charles to the Lamb and sets in
parallel the ways in which the earthly and heavenly rulers are honored. On facing pages, the
Carolingian illuminators depicted parallel terrestrial and celestial ceremonies of the aurum
coronarium. Just as Christ receives tribute in his heavenly court, so his terrestrial counterpart and
reflection, Charles the Bald, receives homage in his earthly reign. The Lamb is in the dome of
heaven; the king is under the baldachin's dome symbolizing heaven. Christ's exaltation in heaven is
set against Charles' imperial exaltation. This parallelism between terrestrial and heavenly rulers had
been portrayed earlier in the diptych of Charles's Prayerbook (Figs. 6 7) and in the gable ivories of
the Throne of Peter (Fig. 4). As Robert Deshman demonstrated, both the diptych and the ivories
imply a concept of imitatio Christi (imitation of Christ) that exalts the ruler in his temporal office
and likens him to Christ.
In the Codex Aureus, the theme of Christ's triumph and exaltation has implications for the meaning
of the exalted king represented on the opposite page. Charles's portrait as Christomimetes (imitator
of Christ) not only enhances his status and authority among humans but it also conveys divine
inspiration. The Carolingian king is to be considered the divinely appointed ruler on earth and the
features of his portrait – the baldachin and the hand of God – support this image. The

Charles Dickens Biography
He is living proof of childhood corruption and portrays himself as his young, mischievous, and
perplexed characters Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. He proves that he is a product of the
Victorian era as he brings attention to the childhood cruelty, the less fortunate in an English society,
and the unwealthy dysfunctional families of the early Victorian time period. Charles Dickens
reflects these and other issues as he brings to life the realism of writing. While others were writing
about the way things should be, rather than the way things were, Dickens was challenging these
ideas, and argued that paupers and criminals were not evil at birth. This was an act of rebellion, for

In the Victorian era, poverty became due to many reasons; a population increase, the search of
employment, and a depressing state of the shortage of housing. All of these points had a direct
impact to why there was the less fortunate in an English society. The nineteenth century saw a huge
growth in the population of Great Britain, and this brought the poverty line lower and lower in cities
such as London. Dickens, being affected by this, had a great impact on helping the less fortunate in
the Victorian time period by bringing to life the realism of the problems that the paupers, criminals,
and just plain poor people had. He did this through showing how the wealthy treated the poor with
no respect and with cruelty through his characters such as Mr. Bumble and Mrs. Sowerberry in
Oliver Twist. Although, Dickens brings attention to how not all upper or middle class people were
always cruel to the poor, through his characters in Oliver Twist such as Mr. Sowerberry, who was
quite kind to Oliver and was uneasy about being cross with him. Along with poverty being such an
issue, there were also the unwealthy dysfunctional families of the Victorian time period.
Charles Dickens grew up in a home where money was never a concern, until his father went
bankrupt and he was abandoned by his family which ultimately led to Dickens being a poor
orphaned boy. Dickens's dysfunctional family must have led to such families as

Charles Darwinism
Charles Darwin coined the Theory of Evolution which consisted of the idea that organisms arise and
develop through natural selection. Humans were included in his nonspecific conclusion that species
adapt to their environment on account of survival of the fittest, and in doing this, it increases one's
ability to compete, maintain life, and reproduce to keep their superior breed alive. While Darwin
was thinking of the bigger concept, the present day analyst can conclude that his theory can be
applied to a multitude of things customarily in life. This evolution of the individual thesis' has
exceeded the periphery of Charles Darwin's theory as foreshadowed by his own philosophy. In
America for example, there has been a concentrated century ... Show more content on

Looking back at the blueprint concept of his theory you can assume that his message assured that
the strong rise above the weak in order for individual succession. In regards to the United States'
economy, this notion connects to the rich will get richer while the poor become poorer. This
application was a mistake that brought on the misuse of workers, enslavement, and poor working
conditions. This epidemic was not a strain to the businessmen at the top as they were not the ones
executing the extensive labor, simply the ones collecting debts. The merit to the people working for
big corporations was quite slim to the superior big brother. This was made apparent when the
government could not even obtain power of corporate businesses. If money could buy anything as
these companies thought, then why not buy senates, congressmen, and legislation? Corporations
held power over the government and all the assets that were included. Industrialist and social thinker
Andrew Carnegie, praised the idea of laissez–faire which implicates that the people would take care
of business practices rather than the government. Other social thinkers of the twentieth century
agreed as this kept the government out of their lucrative business practices and kept agendas hidden.
Herbert Spencer was acclaimed to be the most influential philosopher to Carnegie. His publications
gave assurance to Andrew that his ideals were not radical and that they were justified financial
reasoning. According to PBS's American Experience, a historian named Owen Dudley Edwards

Charles Dickens Accomplishments Charles Dickens, a most well–known and loved British author of a large number of works that are now classics, was the foremost writer and public celebrity of the nineteenth century, he used his personal experiences and hard times that he lived through as inspiration to write about his stories. During the time of his career in writing, he wrote the well–known and most loved classics, A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Nicholas Nickleby, Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities. Dickens became so famous that people would recognize him all over London as he walked around the city observing things that would be the inspiration for his future writings. Upon his death at age 58 in 1865, Charles Dickens left his final work, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story tells of the transformation that Ebenezer Scrooge went through from a tight–fisted tempered person to a generous and friendly man. This is brought about by haunting visions at Christmas that remind Scrooge of his happier days, until the generous spirit shows him misfortunes. This terrifies him with urgent prospects if he should not change his ways ("Dickens"). "He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One!"(Dickens 92) This is from the ending lines of A Christmas Carol and shows the moral lesson learned at the end of this famous ... • 2. Contributions Of Charles Darwin Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn't exactly succeed in the school institution even though his family was wealthy, they didn't help Darwin with his courses in college. Dr. Robert Darwin, Darwin's father sent him to medical school at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin flunked out and was sent to Cambridge University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John Henslow took Darwin scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like Captain Robert Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy's naturalist unpaid companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a survey of the southern coast of South American and to obtain more accurate fixes of longitudes by using new instruments. Darwin plans were to observe and collect specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin's most significant discoveries was his discovery of the finches located on the Galápagos Islands. The finches were a major key to Darwin's theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle also gave Charles Darwin the idea of the theory of evolution and natural selection. Darwin's voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining moment of his career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75 individuals. Darwin had a different position on the ship as his counterparts. His father paid his way on the beagle which gave him perks that his fellow naturalist did not have (Janice c ... • 3. Charles Darwin Contributions No other author has had more of an impact on the way we think about the world around us than Charles Darwin has. From research labs, to classrooms, Darwin's scientific findings and literary work have greatly influenced how we see the living world. A true scientific pioneer, Darwin shocked the highly religious people of his time by sharing his findings and theories about evolution in his book On the Origin of Species. The theories in his book continue to impact the way the natural world is seen today, but they were not always well received. (Desmond) Walter Karp makes note of this in his book Charles Darwin and the Origin of Species: "All species of living things had developed solely through the working of a certain natural process that Darwin had discovered and no revealed in his book... In the history of science no theory was ever so instantly and savagely attacked," (Karp 11). Despite skepticism and resistance from others, Charles Darwin managed to be one of the greatest influences on society and science of all time, and his theories have become the basis for many scientific breakthroughs and secular arguments. Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England on February 12, 1809 to a Dr. Robert Darwin and Susannah Wedgwood (Karp 11). From an early age, Darwin took an interest in the sciences even though it was condemned by the religious English public schools at the time. Eventually, he reached university where he met a professor and mentor who proposed a trip to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Charles Dawin Charles Darwin is a naturalist, well known for his studies on evolution. In 1871 he wrote The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, which explored evidence pertaining to anatomical, medical, embryological, and behavioral differences amongst species. His research findings showed that the human embryo develops the body, cells, proteins, blood, and DNA in developmental stages similar to other species. Darwin also concluded there is evidence that strongly suggests that humans have a common ancestry with apes, more specifically chimpanzees (Stevenson, Haberman, & Wright, 2013, p. 250). In addition to Dawin's findings, Diamond (1992) further suggests how humans have evolved away from apes. Major differences that began to differentiate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around the 1950's a new discipline began to emerge, ethology, which focused on animal behavior in its natural environment. Niko Tinbergen, one ethology's founding fathers, distinguished four questions to ask when a specific behavior is performed. "What was the internal physiological cause of the behavior?" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 267) the behavior occurred due to an internal change. For example, if the behavior occurred due to hormone secretion or a muscle contraction. "What in the development or experience of the individual prepared the way for that behavior?" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 268) if a complication occurred in the development of the fetus in the womb it could prevent sexual maturity, ultimately creating an excuse for abnormal behavior. "What is the function of the behavior" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 268) the individual is behaving this particular way in order to achieve some sort of goal. "What is the evolutionary history of this pattern of behavior" (Stevenson et al., 2013, p. 268) by examining ancestral behavior patterns we can distinguish their intentions or adaptations. • 6. Charles Wesley Biography " She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." (Matt. 1:1 ESV) Sunday was Charles Wesley's birthday. I've always liked Charles Wesley, for more than just his prolific hymn writing. And make no mistake he was prolific. what amazes me about Wesley is not just how many hymsn he wrote, but how many theologically rich, musically sound they are. it's one thing to write a lot of hymns. It's quite another to write so many good ones. While I admire, respect, and am indebted to Charles' older brother John for so many things, I don't know if he'd be the brother you'd want to spend time with. Oh I'd want t hear him preach and ask him about his faith and how he organized his small groups. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His interference in the love life of his brother caused a tremendous rift between them for many years. It seems that while he wasn't willing to risk his personal happiness for the sake of the movement, h was wilignto risk John's. I don't believe Charles was being hypocritical. I think he saw Joh as being more important, or at least a greater driving force behind Methodism, and he feared what might happen if John settled down. So no, although I think Charles might have been more fun to hang out with He was simply different than his brother. The Wesleys embody the idea that God sues the entire Body fo Christ without different gits, and personalities to further the Kingdom of God. Perhaps rather than spending so much time trying to make everyone the same, we and the world would be better suited if we allowed In this season of giving we celebrate the greatest gift of all, the birth of Jesus. The one who's birth, Wesley reminds us, came to give us a "Second Birth" "Born than men no more may die" New life now, and an eternal life as well. It's for this reason we give gifts at Christmas. Oh, I know our greed can put gift giving all out of proportion. But isn't giving a gift and receiving them still a wonderful way to celebrate the greatest gift of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay On Charles Manson How does someone get sentenced to death row for murders without actually killing a single person? For someone whose specialty is brainwashing and cult–building, this is quite the simple feat. In the words of Charles Manson, "We're not in Wonderland anymore Alice." To even remotely comprehend the mind of Manson, one must dive headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders, and current imprisonment. Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Manson is no different. On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing, criminally involved, 16–year–old girl in Ohio ("Manson Family"). She is said to have sold him for a single pitcher of beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was only the start of an extremely troubled life. By the age of 9, Manson had gone from residing with family members to living at reformatory schools. He was beginning to follow in his mother's footsteps, also committing his first theft at this age (Henderson). Young Charlie's life would take an even sharper downward turn as the years progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired his followers to do the unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a "family" (Abbas). However, this one would be far different than any other family to ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for several young girls whom he lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race war would bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would prevail. During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only to emerge and take over the world because he thought the African Americans would be unfit to lead themselves. He even referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate (Abbas). All of Manson's predictions came from what he thought were hidden messages in the song "Helter Skelter" by the Beetles (Henderson). It seemed as if all that was left to do was wait for the end to come. When the apocalypse failed to start, Manson took matters into his own hands. His master plan was to send members of his cult to commit murders, thinking African Americans would be blamed, thus the start of the race war. The first round of murders are ... • 12. Charles Darwin's Life Charles Darwin was an English naturalist, which is now known as a biologist, who is best known for his contributions to the theory of evolution by natural selection and his interest in the Galapagos Islands through the adaption of species. The life of Darwin was highly influenced through his childhood. His family greatly helped Charles with their financial and moral support aboard the H.M.S. Beagle, "the voyage [which] took nearly five years, from December 1831 to October 1836." (American Museum of Natural History). Why don't the same species appear in similar environments? Many species only lived on the Galapagos –– and sometimes, only one certain island. How did these species end up there? There were species on the Galapagos such as insects and reptiles that resembled some species in South America, but were also different in very slight ways. Darwin began to wonder if species would travel to the Galapagos, and then adapt to their new environments over time. If two species came from a common ancestor, it would make sense for them to live together. For example, Darwin's' finches he discovered on the Galapagos had differently sized beaks. These beaks would differ in size according to the area these birds were in –– "their appearance and behavior quickly adapted to this closed and rapidly changing environment." ... • 13. Charles Darwin Outline Charles Darwin I. Introduction "A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life", (Charles Darwin). Darwin meant that our lives are meant to be spent doing the things we want to do and what would better ourselves. The tone of his work is formal. Before I read Baudelaire's essay I assumed it was going to be all about modern art and how it came about. As I was reading the essay, I learned that it was about so much more than that. Charles Baudelaire begins his essay very effectively. He starts his reading out by expressing his opinion about the world and the world of artist, sharing the different mindsets of how people view art and artist as a whole. This leads to Baudelaire's distinction between what constitutes artist verses man of the world, because M.G. is mentioned to as a man of the world, rather than just an artist. Baudelaire goes on explaining the past and present of the value of art and how the world is mending its ways. This reading makes me think of art in a new light. • 29. Charles The Lamb Analysis In the two illuminations, a unity of appearance and attributes links Charles to the Lamb and sets in parallel the ways in which the earthly and heavenly rulers are honored. On facing pages, the Carolingian illuminators depicted parallel terrestrial and celestial ceremonies of the aurum coronarium. Just as Christ receives tribute in his heavenly court, so his terrestrial counterpart and reflection, Charles the Bald, receives homage in his earthly reign. The Lamb is in the dome of heaven; the king is under the baldachin's dome symbolizing heaven. Christ's exaltation in heaven is set against Charles' imperial exaltation. This parallelism between terrestrial and heavenly rulers had been portrayed earlier in the diptych of Charles's Prayerbook (Figs. 6 7) and in the gable ivories of the Throne of Peter (Fig. 4). As Robert Deshman demonstrated, both the diptych and the ivories imply a concept of imitatio Christi (imitation of Christ) that exalts the ruler in his temporal office and likens him to Christ. In the Codex Aureus, the theme of Christ's triumph and exaltation has implications for the meaning of the exalted king represented on the opposite page. Charles's portrait as Christomimetes (imitator of Christ) not only enhances his status and authority among humans but it also conveys divine inspiration. The Carolingian king is to be considered the divinely appointed ruler on earth and the features of his portrait – the baldachin and the hand of God – support this image. The ... All of these points had a direct impact to why there was the less fortunate in an English society. The nineteenth century saw a huge growth in the population of Great Britain, and this brought the poverty line lower and lower in cities such as London. Dickens, being affected by this, had a great impact on helping the less fortunate in the Victorian time period by bringing to life the realism of the problems that the paupers, criminals, and just plain poor people had. He did this through showing how the wealthy treated the poor with no respect and with cruelty through his characters such as Mr. Bumble and Mrs. Sowerberry in Oliver Twist. Although, Dickens brings attention to how not all upper or middle class people were always cruel to the poor, through his characters in Oliver Twist such as Mr. Sowerberry, who was quite kind to Oliver and was uneasy about being cross with him.
