Visual communication is the transformation of thoughts and ideas into pictures, photos, graphs and
drawings. It is considered as the most interesting and fascinating form of communication because of
the creativity it contains and the vision it requires. According to Wikipedia, visual communication is
most commonly used daily when surfing the internet because a person uses his eyes to view the
websites therefore the content of the website should be clear and understandable for the viewer's
eyes. It is usually practiced by using the means of graphic design in order to put across their ideas
into pictures or real life projects. This paper will talk about Graphic design, Graphic Designers, the

Another requirement of becoming a graphic designer is to receive a certificate that proves the person
is capable of using any program that is relevant to design, since employers won't request work
experience but they would rather have a person with skill rather than experience (The Advertiser,
March 1991).
There is a long list to go through in order for a person to choose what part of graphic design he/she
want to specialize in. That list includes creative director, layout artist, brand identity design, logo
designer, flash designer, illustrator, technical illustrator, Photoshop artist, multimedia designer,
photographer, prepress technician and a web designer. Each of these job titles has responsibilities
such as, a creative director is responsible for "making sure that each of these workers produce and
complete their work on time and to the client's satisfaction." A logo designer's job is "to provide a
new and innovative way to express the key message of a company through a recognizable image."
And a web designer 's job is to create the pages, layout, and graphics for web pages, they play a key
role in the development of a website." Each one of these jobs requires different courses, different
certificates, and different experience, but they all share the sense of creativity and inventiveness in
them.

Interview With A Graphic Designer
I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous Graphic
Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it is very
important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds best pieces
of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself and not any
online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of design thinking is a
very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day after day of new methods
of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of people such as fresh students
who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes professional graphic designers who
have been seen as an 'expert' in their field lack the knowledge of understanding a great design
thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design thinking is all about the design specific skills
that a designer applies during the process of designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic
designer as this thought process can be applied to a lot of people in the creative industries such as
interior and exterior designers, game designers and even architects. Design thinking has now come
to be characterised as fusing the appreciation of other designers and people that can produce
beautiful projects and incorporating it into your own work. It's the imaginative concept and the
coherence to figure out the

Graphic Design Of A Graphic Designer Essay
Graphic design is everywhere; it is a way of communicating through the use of type, space and
image. Graphic designers use numerous methods to create and combine words, symbols, and
images, which creates a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a
combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. William
Morris and Joost Schmidt have both used these techniques to produce astonishing pieces of graphic
design, which are going to be compared and contrasted throughout this essay. The 1923 legendary
typographer and graphic designer Joost Schmidt in Weimar, Germany created Bauhaus Exhibition
Poster. The other piece of design I have decided to analyse is a two–page spread of the edition of
works of Geoffrey Chaucer. This was the Kelmscott press finest achievement; it was designed by
William Morris and illustrated by his friend Burne–Jones. This was the most beautiful book of its
day; it serves as a tribute to "Chaucer" and to Morris himself. (Meggs, P., & Purvis, A. 2006).
These design outcomes came from two very contrasting movements. The Arts and craft Movement
and the Bauhaus movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international design movement
that thrived between 1800 and 1910. The main influence was writer and designer William Morris.
William Morris was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and crafts movement. He led
the way for the practice of producing and designing without the

A good processor will enable faster performance from the computer and will allow power efficiency
when working with graphics. The CPU is measured in gigahertz per second or GHz. A better CPU
will allow programs like Photoshop to run faster and better. A good processor allows the computer
to run the software and work out the calculations to manipulate and edit graphics. Part D – Digital
Camera A digital camera is a device used to capture images or videos. Most 21st cameras today are
digital as they allow good quality images and sound with minimal storage space. Benefits of using a
digital camera is that they are able to display the image as soon as they are taken which allows the
user to see if the photo was good or bad also if a photo is bad the device can easily delete it to leave
room for better photos or videos. The optical system works like the same as in film cameras,
typically using the same kind of lens with a variable diaphragm to focus light onto an image pickup
device. Images can be brought onto a computer quickly for editing or printing through a USB link or
wireless technology. Most cameras create JPEG images and are relatively low in cost. Part E – Flash
Memory Card A flash memory card provides a permanent storage space in a digital camera. It can
store both images and videos. The cards are measured in gigabits and range from 1 GB up to 32 GB.

Graphic Design Portfolio
Our Graphic Design Portfolio is meant to not only help myself but other people who are looking at
my skill set. In order to show this, the project must contain artwork from each Adobe program such
as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Animate. Photoshop can either show our abilities in editing
photographs, how we can create gifs or simply how we can use it to draw. Illustrator is mostly about
vector drawings and shows how we can use it to create 3D images or simple logo designs. Indesign
will show how well we can format, through creating simple menus or as complex as creating
magazines. Animate, on the other hand, will show how we can also create moving images, short
animations and can also be used to create gifs. Each piece of work will reflect my artistic abilities,
creativeness, art style as well as my strengths and weaknesses in each program. Through this
information employers, colleges and other companies will be able to see where I am, skill–wise, and

Graphic Design And Art And Design
Often times a painting has the same structure as a design. The details can be similar for both Graphic
Design and Fine Art. Paintings such as Son of Man by Magritte which has basics such as shadow,
highlight, simple composition, and a dull color palette. A design for Apple Laptops was created of a
decal of Son of Man. This design also had shadow, light, basic composition, and an achromatic color
palette. The structure is the same, but one is created digitally and one is a painting. The processes
can also be very similar. Many artists use technology in their artwork. They use Adobe Photoshop
and Adobe Illustrator, programs for designers and use it to create their artwork. Artists such as Jeff
Koons who manipulates images on Photoshop, prints it and paints hyper realistic paintings from
those images. The structure and process for art and design can be very similar. Can an artist be a
designer or vise versa? One argument that critics make is that artists are just artists or that a designer
is not an artist. However there are countless artists who are designers and vise versa. One famous
designer would be Eva Zeisel. Eva Zeisel is famous for creating a body of dinner sets which she
created after she was released in Russia. While imprisoned, Zeisel found inspiration in the curves of
her own body claiming it was the only art she had. Afterwards she created "useful" art which was
her groundbreaking design of minimalist dinnerware, (Eva Zeisel, groundbreaking designer, dies).

Graphic design definition
Graphic design means the planning of imagery and even lettering or font, in order to create a visual
image that draws attention. Graphic design is a sought–after skill, and in an aesthetic society, there
is a constant need for designers to produce attractive advertisements, banners, logos, websites,
videos, or website content. It isn't only professionals who are able to produce shareable content. In a
technological society, it is possible to add design elements to your photographs using style filters on
your phone. However, understanding graphic design principles go beyond technology. Instead, it

Graphic Design And Advertising
Graphic Design and Advertising Positive Impact on Our World.
"Vision is the art of seeing the invisible" ( Jonathon Swift). We have been indulging in the arts and
have used art as a way to express and interact with the people surrounding us. To the carved images
on rocks, and to the cartoons shown on the TV, the evolution of Graphic Design has shown us the
importance of typography, photographers, illustrators etc. have on our society. When paper, ink, and
pencils didn't exist, our ancestors would carve their warnings, messages, and emotions on rocks and
walls. Our ancestors don't realize that such small acts such as these was the beginning of a huge
movement, that wouldn't be recognized until thousands years later. During the 16th century, China
was able to establish a technique called woodblock printing or, the application of ink on raised
curved surface, that allowed multiple text and images to be made quickly. China's wide extension of
printing slowly reached the middle east and caused Europe to start producing woodblock broadsides
and printed books. The first printing press was constructed by Johannes Gutenberg, which was the
first metal movable type to create a large amount of printed books. In the Old days books were very
rare, expensive and were very valuable. The creation of the Printing press allowed books to be done
faster, cheaper and it allowed books to be more accessible to the public. Graphic Design or "the art

The Evolution of Graphic Design
When graphic design began, it was much simpler than it is today. Most people consider graphic
design to be done only on computers and fancy operating systems, when in fact graphic design in
much more complex than that. Graphic design has its roots in early caveman drawings using stone,
organic paints and charcoal. Since these early humans had no to little verbal communication, logic
dictates that they would have to communicate instead with a plethora of symbols and graphic
representations of ideas. As time progressed, the methods of visual communication, as well as verbal
communication, evolved. Materials in graphic design became more refined such as digital or
traditional printing. Some of the milestones in graphic design were the invention of printing presses,
text–based design such as Typography, molds, and computers. As new technology made the
expression and sharing of art possible, those who chose to create art formed new styles and ideas
that also evolved.
Artistic molds were one of the first revolutionary things to come about in graphic design. The molds
allowed for the mass production of certain objects, letters, or shapes that would otherwise take
several hours to even days to be created. Once the molds were created, they could then be used to
replicate their shape by filing them with clay, stone, cement, ink and other artistic materials. The
molds can be made in varying shapes and sizes, allowing for artists to create precise works from
different templates. Molds

The Importance Of Graphic Novels
When most people refer to literature that concentrates specifically on the Holocaust as the subjects,
the first thought usually isn't in the form of a graphic novel. Most people would believe a graphic
novel is something only a child would read or someone to the same educational equivalent. Due to
their engaging stories and appealing visuals though, graphic novels are idea for visual learners,
inexperienced or unenthused readers, and just about anyone else who may not find traditional print
books enticing. Graphic novels tend to show a relationship between the images and the text that
makes for an experience in itself (1.). Sometimes even taking on a difficult subject, an example
being the Holocaust can make for a different kind of experience. In Maus I & II, the author chose
graphic novels as his medium. For that, "Maus shines due to its impressive ability to 'speak the
unspeakable' by using the popular maxim, 'a picture is worth a thousand words,' to perfection" (3).
As mentioned before, graphic novels can be great tools for some, if not all, readers. As well the
holocausts can be a difficult subject, not always easy to read about. Using graphic novels, which
often is associated with children, to represent a traumatic event can be problematic: "The enormity
of atrocity is such that the very act of representing it risked trivializing or over–dramatizing it,"(2).
In other words, the author has to be very cautions when writing serious graphic novels not to get too

Here are some key standards in graphic design branding that all companies strive to achieve from
their graphic designers.
Core Values
Every company has core values at the heart of their business. Your company's core values are the
things your business stands for. They are what your company deems the most important aspect of
their brand. Your core values are not about the things that you offer, but more about the personality
of your company. These core values should guide the overall brand message you want to deliver to
your audience.
Core values are what attract customers to you. If your company's values align with the consumer's
values, then they are more likely to use your products or services. A good graphic designer should
be able to implement a company's core values into the branding in a way that the audience
understands. This is how effective branding will attract an audience.
Target Audience
Every business should have a target audience. Your target audience is the type of customers your
business centers their advertisements, products, and services towards. The dream customer is the
type of customer you vibe with. It is similar to what was mentioned before. When a company's and
customer's values match up, they stick together. This is who your target audience is. They are more
likely to stay loyal to you if you target that specific audience. Your target audience is more likely to
buy your products and

The world of Graphic Design is ever changing, and fast paced. Attempting to keep up with new
ideas and trends can be dizzying along with tiring. We have already seen the invention of so much
technology to get us where we are today, whether that be the Gutenberg Press or Apple's Macintosh
Computer. The future of design shows no signs of mercy in terms of slowing down, but just what
does the future have in store? Before we can think about the future, we must first understand the
past. Design can be dated back as far as pre–historic times through the Lascaux Cave Paintings.
Done over 200,000 years ago, it is the earliest known example of writing. It would later be
discovered as a form of communications. The Egyptian culture utilized design in their Book of the
Deads. Each book was made to include passwords, and spells to help those you have passed away in
their afterlife. It would be until the Chinese civilization, and all their world changing inventions,
where we would see an emergence of the printing process. Alongside the compass, and gunpowder,
the civilization also invented paper, and what is known as Chinese Chops. Chinese Chops were
commonly made of jade, silver, or even ivory, and was a stamp like objects that allowed for mass
production at the time. Between a combination of the Chops and a shortage of iron, the culture was
able to get printing into the hands of everyone through money. Unfortunately, because of the shear

Graphic Literary Criticism
Graphic Novels and Literary Criticism Graphic novels are a form of literature that is becoming
increasingly popular among panels of literary critics deservingly so despite their nonconformity with
the traditional ideology of what should be considered prose worthy of criticism. Graphic novels
share all of the same themes that a traditional novel has but a graphic novel provides additional
benefits. These benefits are including elements like their multiple visual graphics which aid
audiences and readers when reading the novel. These novels have developed over many years and
should be used in educational settings. Modernly enlightened graphic novelists, such as Neil
Gaiman and Will Eisner, are educated persona whom have written popular graphic novels and these
authors serve as a testament which aid with the reasoning of using graphic novels in professional
literary criticism settings. Graphic novels should no longer be considered on the fringe of literature
due to their aspects which over qualify the novel type to be considered for means of literary uses.
Before a critic can qualify if a prose is considered literature they must understand exactly what
literature is because without doing so, than the idea of literature is held at popular belief without
understanding the horizons of the term literature. This topic is appropriate because when discussing
the legitimacy of graphic novels being considered literature, it will fail the uneducated popular
belief's standard due to the

The Importance Of Graphic Design
Each and every day, design is consistently changing and evolving. Design is everywhere we go and
one cannot help but to see it; graphic design is in television commercials, advertisements, Internet
advertisements, visual information, et cetera. Graphic design can be involved in such minute details
ranging from a 1–inch sticker to as vast as a national billboard sign. The main goal of graphic
designer's is to communicate with a designated target audience through the use of visual elements.
Graphic Design has two major components to be considered. Initially the target audience must be
identified, this is critical. The target audience will then drive the type of format that will be used to
reach the desired audience. Then the designer must explore the reasons for the design, what it is to
accomplish all the way taking meticulous measures not to lose focus on the target audience. This is
important because it is not enough to create a great design if the message of the design is lost and
never actually reaches the intended recipients. The importance of this critical step cannot be
emphasized enough. If this detail is overlooked a lot of time, money and resources will be expended
for no purpose. Many Graphic Designers that excel in their field tend to lack expertise in
communication skills, which are imperative in understanding and meeting the needs of their
clientele. The inability to adequately understand the needs of the client and the market of a specific

Mckean Graphic Novels
In this report I shall be discussing the historical context of the development of graphic novels that
changed in the last three decades. The visual language has shifted art styles and developed different
opinions on what are proper storytelling and a comic. I shall be analysing what is the visual
language for graphic novels. After analysing the visual language I shall be comparing to an
illustrator and artist, Dave McKean. He is a personal interest that has influenced my art style for two
years in generating Gothic, dark toned imagery. McKean has developed a unique visual language
towards comic and graphic novels, questioning if we could further beyond the usual similarity. What
is his point of comics and the visual language? He provided illustrations for several novels working
with different authors, but I'll be exploring his work with his collaborator Neil Gaiman. This
partnership sold many books due to the visual language representation Dave McKean's illustrations
he has provided. I shall be exploring if they affected the modern graphic novel genre, and what
makes this collaborator different from other authors Dave McKean worked with? ... Show more

Graphic Design : What Is It?
Graphic design: what is it?
In this modern era, technology has brought many changes with the introduction of many advanced
software. The graphic design or communication design is one of the most advanced aspects of
graphic design. This is indeed the art of planning, designing and incorporating ideas in a visual and
textual way. Graphic design, in short, is the technical term of designing a logo, signage or poster by
including images, words, animations and graphic forms. Designers take up projects of small and
large scale. While a small scale project involves logo designing and creating signage, a large project
make include anything like designing a commercial or creating a physical content with graphics for
a international forum. Graphic designing also include animation work, which is hugely popular in
the movie industry. For the last few decades, graphic designing has evolved as a backbone of the
technology industry and a booming field. Business owners, marketers and clients use graphic
designers to create informative and visually appealing banners, posters, logos, movies and even
well–crafted motion–graphic pictures.
What to look for when hiring a graphic designer?
Hiring a graphic designer is a good idea if you want a professional looking logo designed for your

Importance Of Graphic Design
The career that I am researching is graphic design. A graphic designer helps to make an organization
recognizable by using a variety of mediums to communicate a particular idea or identity to be used
in advertising and promotions. Some examples of things that graphic designers create/do are;
colours, fonts, animations, photography, print designs, logos, images, pictures, and billboards. They
use a variety of design elements to help an advertisement, brochure, magazine, or corporate report
be artistically appealing and stand out. They also collaborate closely with other graphic designers,
writers, programmers, artists, or other creative people in order for their projects to be as appealing as
possible. Graphic design is important to society because it gives organizations and companies a face.
It allows the consumer to have feelings about a product just by looking at it. The importance of
graphic design is only increasing because with the growing reach of technology, it is extremely
important for a company to be noticed. A typical day working as a graphic designer involves
meetings, creating your project, revising your project, and presentations. Graphic design is not a
physically strenuous job and is a job that people of all body types can do.
Many personal traits are required for a person to be a successful graphic designer. Some of these
traits are; artistic skills, creativity, strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills, ability to

Graphic Design And Visual Arts
Graphic design and Visual arts are two different artistic fields. The field of Graphic design, which is
responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to clients
and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic designers are
required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books, magazines,
posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays. Visual arts on
the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and photography and
architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic design is that many people do not think of
graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers. Visual Arts
People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors are artist
because it takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create complex graphics. They have
to come up with a design by sketching it out. Then graphic designers have to bring their art to life
using the computer. Both visual artist and graphic designers have a passion for art. They are both
creative professions to pursue. Some people argue that Visual Art people are more hands on with
their work; they use a lot of physical ability to do their art. Graphic designers use technology to do

Graphic Design is a form of visual communication where one uses images, shapes, colors, and text
to convey ideas and concepts. The field of graphic design encompasses many different sub–sections
including web design and printmaking, however, the field of graphic design is not very heavy on
professional writing. Instead graphic design utilizes images to convey messages and concepts.
Throughout this essay I will explore the formatting styles, genres and uses of writing, and how
writing and rhetorical skills are translated into design skills. Formatting styles such as MLA, APA,

The main genres of writing within the field include proposal writing and technical writing. Many
articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example,
the article "Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations," by a designer
called LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space, implied
texture, and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written to help
designers improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create meaningful
designs. Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an understanding of ethos
because their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the graphic design field.
Specifically, within LoungeKat's article, technical terminology is utilized to develop that ethos as
well as specific examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple language rather than
advanced language. Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense of simplicity in their
writing as well. I assume this is because the field is not heavy on writing or research and instead it
focuses on art and visual designs so there is no need to use such a formal or advanced way of
writing. In addition, credible sources such as peer journals are very important in many fields of work
because they can be trusted to provide reliable information. During the interview I also asked

manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer graphics has made
computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data.
Developments in computer graphics have had a profound impact on many types of media and have
revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.

These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas modern day

Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written
for the DEC PDP–1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP–1
owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program
on every new PDP–1 before shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when
installing new units, would run the world's first video game for their new customers.

Graphic Design Progression
as long as I can remember I have been interested in things like sketching drawing painting
computers and anything to do with arts and crafts. I have always been interested in arts and crafts
since I was a child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. As I got older,
and technology advanced I started finding ways to make my sketches and characters more detailed
by use of computer applications. This is where my interest in the graphic design field first
blossomed. I would spend hours upon hours trying new things and designing flyers and postcards.
All the while, honing and sharpening my skills. It wasn't until my senior year in high school and
entering college that I have found that there was a career which incorporates these things. I can
actually get paid to do what I love. That career is graphic design. Graphic design was a good career

Women In Graphic Novels
Graphic novels and comics have commonly been perceived as a form almost exclusively created for
and enjoyed by men and boys. However, there are ways in which that has been contradicted by
female graphic novelists whose works feature thoughtful, well–written, and realistic portrayals of
women. With that being the case, women and girls have increasingly gravitated towards graphic
novels due to the world of comics having become more gender–inclusive over recent time. Before
looking at the ways in which gender representation has improved in graphic novels and comics, as
well as how there has been a significant rise in the recognition of female cartoonists, let's examine
the issues surrounding the representation of women in comics.

The World Of Graphic Design
The world of Graphic Design has been revolutionized time and time again with many artists setting
high standards for aspiring graphic designers. Two artists who are interesting and innovative in their
own ways are graphic designers Chipp Kidd and Jennifer Morla. Kidd has created many design
successes with some of his most famous book jackets being Jurassic Park, Naked by Davis Sedaris
and All the Pretty Horses. The designs of the books are all drastically diverse, making it difficult to
pinpoint the designs to one single artist. However dissimilar the designs are, they have two things in
common; they are innovative and perfectly reflect the content of the pages between the covers.
Jennifer Morla is an artist with a differing career from Kidd. She focuses on branding of companies
rather than book jackets. She has worked with companies such as Levi's, Apple Computer, Design
Within Reach, Wells Fargo, Herman Miller to help form a clean brand for the companies. I am
researching the histories of both Chipp Kidd and Jennifer Morla because they are both trailblazers in
the Graphic Design world and have come from drastically different backgrounds. Their histories and
accomplishments can have a great impact on aspiring graphic designers.
To begin, we will take a trip back in time to the summer of 1964. This was the time when perhaps
the most recognizable book cover designer, Chip Kidd, was born. He grew up in a small town in

What Is Graphic Design?
What is graphic design? The term "graphic design" basically means the art and skill of combining
text and images to convey messages on everything and everywhere.2 The very first time the term
"graphic design" was used was during 1922 in a newspaper article. By the 1980s, the term was
widely used in newspapers, magazines and some publications even ran entire series of articles,
attempting to explain what it meant.2 This literature review will cover on the history of graphic
design, the impact of digital technology and how digital technology has made life easier.
So how did graphic design come about? It all started when Johann Gutenberg invented movable type
in 1455 (the 15th century). He invented it because of a reason: to be able to print books. 3 This
invention of movable type has caused rapid changes in the world of graphic design. Up till today,
many fonts and typefaces that were created back in the 15th century are still being used today.
However, the term 'graphic design' originated in the early 20th century when designers started to
operate independently. Graphic design actually began when the 'design' of printed materials
developed into a practicable commercial activity separated from print.4 The birth of graphic design
as a career also began during the 20th century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Definition of Graphic Design Graphic design is well–known as visual communication where there is
a combination of the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual
and textual content. The production encompasses identity, publication, advertisements, website
graphics and product packaging (Cezzar, n.d.). According to Jessica Helfand, an American designer,
author and educator, had a definition about graphic design as the following:
Graphic design is a visual language uniting harmony and balance, color and light, scale and tension,
form and content. But it is also an idiomatic language, a language of cues and puns and symbols and
allusions, of cultural references and perceptual inferences and that challenge both the intellect and
the eye (Helfand, cited in Shaughnessy, 2008) In other words, it could be said that graphic design
helps to form the unique identity of specific subjects. From Helfand's perspective, graphic design is
not only aesthetic and communicative territory, but also a "language" in visual and idiomatic that
graphic designers are required to learn through education and experience. ii. What does a graphic

Billboards, commercials, ads, and even certain products all serve as scapegoats for one of the
world's top growing occupations, Graphic design. Collectively graphic design is the creation of art,
with the goal of making an impact on someone in some way. Whether it's an ad or purely just art, the
goal is to appeal to the senses and emotions. An easier way of saying it is creatively creating ways to
obtain others interests. Graphic designers have the responsibility of being creative, trying new
things, and thinking outside of the box. Although being completely original isn't necessary either.

The whole goal of making a design is to affect the possible customers in a way that they feel it is
necessary to purchase the object or service. There are many ways of affecting the brain this way, for
example color scheme. It has been scientifically proven that the colors red, and yellow trigger a
certain portion of the brain, and makes people feel as if they are hungry, which is why most fast
food restaurants incorporate red and yellow in their color schemes. Companies like to be assured
that their design, along with the color scheme, will affect their target market in some way that allows
them to achieve, and maintain a population of regular customers. In the past advertising wasn't as
hard as it is today, social groups are becoming more and more segregated due to social networking.
It's kind of ironic how social networking is actually making us less social, therefore deeming the
need for advertisement less important.
Towards the end of the 19th century, modernism was becoming more, and more popular. Everything
from style, to mass production, even to the use of machines to produce alternative art forms. By the
beginning of the 20th century, modernism, had already made an impact on the history of art, and
even began to shape what we call today, graphic design. Over time people started using machines to
project art more often. Eventually, art forms where developed even further with the help of

Taking a Look at Graphic Novels
Graphic novels are seen to be successful to those who don't like reading pages of words upon words,
but instead acting more like a comic book with semi–detailed pictures that help the reader envision
the author's intended view. Although, they do have their limitations on being condensed and lacking
details that could allow the reader to fully understand characters in the environment of the novel.
With graphic novels, history is a great use to portray many important events such as the Boxer
Rebellion in China and provide a novel that can inform an audience of the history and reasoning
behind the event. As a whole graphic novels are best in that they can get a point across to the reader
much more efficiently than a wordy novel, but not with it's limitations of being condensed in nature
and lacking the extra details needed to understand the characters in the story. Therefore, graphic
novels reach a wide set of audiences, remains strong in providing voice and portraying it's setting,
but is weak with characterization and providing sufficient detail to the understanding of a historic
event. To obtain a wider range of an audience, graphic novels will just do that. Graphic novels have
many positives to the reader that it helps the reader view the novel in the author's light of thinking.
Graphic novels illustrate the scene in comic strip form that only narrative is needed to bring the
images to life. In Boxers and Saints, the story of Bao and Vibiana is illustrated so beautifully

Graphic design services these days (like any services these days) have been on a downward slide for

information that can be verified if need be. If you are paying hundreds of dollars or more for design
services then you had better see some years of experience on that Designer's resume. Where did they

Graphic Design: Typography
There were a few ways I could have focused on in the first graphic design sequence class. First, I
could have asked more questions to make sure I understood the class material. Second, I realized I
need an extra set of eyes to critique my design. Therefore, I hired a graphic design tutor to help me
with future design classes. The third important design skill I need to work on is typography,
therefore; I started researching ways of designing typography. One of my teachers recommended I
should take some calligraphy classes to help me with my creative process in typography.
The research I did on different ways to approach a corporate identity logo has helped me to know
the importance of typography in design. When it comes to corporate identity, I am learning that
graphic design is not about making pretty pictures anymore as when I was a kid, but more about

It is considered as the most interesting and fascinating form of communication because of the creativity it contains and the vision it requires. According to Wikipedia, visual communication is most commonly used daily when surfing the internet because a person uses his eyes to view the websites therefore the content of the website should be clear and understandable for the viewer's eyes. It is usually practiced by using the means of graphic design in order to put across their ideas into pictures or real life projects. Another requirement of becoming a graphic designer is to receive a certificate that proves the person is capable of using any program that is relevant to design, since employers won't request work experience but they would rather have a person with skill rather than experience (The Advertiser, March 1991). There is a long list to go through in order for a person to choose what part of graphic design he/she want to specialize in. That list includes creative director, layout artist, brand identity design, logo designer, flash designer, illustrator, technical illustrator, Photoshop artist, multimedia designer, photographer, prepress technician and a web designer. Each of these job titles has responsibilities such as, a creative director is responsible for "making sure that each of these workers produce and complete their work on time and to the client's satisfaction." A logo designer's job is "to provide a new and innovative way to express the key message of a company through a recognizable image." And a web designer 's job is to create the pages, layout, and graphics for web pages, they play a key role in the development of a website." Each one of these jobs requires different courses, different certificates, and different experience, but they all share the sense of creativity and inventiveness in them. ... • 3. Interview With A Graphic Designer I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous Graphic Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it is very important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds best pieces of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself and not any online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of design thinking is a very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day after day of new methods of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of people such as fresh students who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes professional graphic designers who have been seen as an 'expert' in their field lack the knowledge of understanding a great design thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design thinking is all about the design specific skills that a designer applies during the process of designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as this thought process can be applied to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and exterior designers, game designers and even architects. Design thinking has now come to be characterised as fusing the appreciation of other designers and people that can produce beautiful projects and incorporating it into your own work. It's the imaginative concept and the coherence to figure out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Graphic Design Of A Graphic Designer Essay Graphic design is everywhere; it is a way of communicating through the use of type, space and image. Graphic designers use numerous methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images, which creates a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. William Morris and Joost Schmidt have both used these techniques to produce astonishing pieces of graphic design, which are going to be compared and contrasted throughout this essay. The 1923 legendary typographer and graphic designer Joost Schmidt in Weimar, Germany created Bauhaus Exhibition Poster. The other piece of design I have decided to analyse is a two–page spread of the edition of works of Geoffrey Chaucer. This was the Kelmscott press finest achievement; it was designed by William Morris and illustrated by his friend Burne–Jones. This was the most beautiful book of its day; it serves as a tribute to "Chaucer" and to Morris himself. (Meggs, P., & Purvis, A. 2006). These design outcomes came from two very contrasting movements. The Arts and craft Movement and the Bauhaus movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international design movement that thrived between 1800 and 1910. The main influence was writer and designer William Morris. William Morris was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and crafts movement. He led the way for the practice of producing and designing without the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Photoshop can either show our abilities in editing photographs, how we can create gifs or simply how we can use it to draw. Illustrator is mostly about vector drawings and shows how we can use it to create 3D images or simple logo designs. Indesign will show how well we can format, through creating simple menus or as complex as creating magazines. Animate, on the other hand, will show how we can also create moving images, short animations and can also be used to create gifs. • 15. Graphic Design And Art And Design Often times a painting has the same structure as a design. The details can be similar for both Graphic Design and Fine Art. Paintings such as Son of Man by Magritte which has basics such as shadow, highlight, simple composition, and a dull color palette. A design for Apple Laptops was created of a decal of Son of Man. This design also had shadow, light, basic composition, and an achromatic color palette. The structure is the same, but one is created digitally and one is a painting. The processes can also be very similar. Many artists use technology in their artwork. They use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, programs for designers and use it to create their artwork. Artists such as Jeff Koons who manipulates images on Photoshop, prints it and paints hyper realistic paintings from those images. The structure and process for art and design can be very similar. Can an artist be a designer or vise versa? One argument that critics make is that artists are just artists or that a designer is not an artist. However there are countless artists who are designers and vise versa. One famous designer would be Eva Zeisel. Eva Zeisel is famous for creating a body of dinner sets which she created after she was released in Russia. While imprisoned, Zeisel found inspiration in the curves of her own body claiming it was the only art she had. Afterwards she created "useful" art which was her groundbreaking design of minimalist dinnerware, (Eva Zeisel, groundbreaking designer, dies). Her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have been indulging in the arts and have used art as a way to express and interact with the people surrounding us. To the carved images on rocks, and to the cartoons shown on the TV, the evolution of Graphic Design has shown us the importance of typography, photographers, illustrators etc. have on our society. When paper, ink, and pencils didn't exist, our ancestors would carve their warnings, messages, and emotions on rocks and walls. Our ancestors don't realize that such small acts such as these was the beginning of a huge movement, that wouldn't be recognized until thousands years later. During the 16th century, China was able to establish a technique called woodblock printing or, the application of ink on raised curved surface, that allowed multiple text and images to be made quickly. China's wide extension of printing slowly reached the middle east and caused Europe to start producing woodblock broadsides and printed books. The first printing press was constructed by Johannes Gutenberg, which was the first metal movable type to create a large amount of printed books. • 25. The Evolution of Graphic Design When graphic design began, it was much simpler than it is today. Most people consider graphic design to be done only on computers and fancy operating systems, when in fact graphic design in much more complex than that. Graphic design has its roots in early caveman drawings using stone, organic paints and charcoal. Since these early humans had no to little verbal communication, logic dictates that they would have to communicate instead with a plethora of symbols and graphic representations of ideas. As time progressed, the methods of visual communication, as well as verbal communication, evolved. Materials in graphic design became more refined such as digital or traditional printing. Some of the milestones in graphic design were the invention of printing presses, text–based design such as Typography, molds, and computers. As new technology made the expression and sharing of art possible, those who chose to create art formed new styles and ideas that also evolved. Artistic molds were one of the first revolutionary things to come about in graphic design. • 27. The Importance Of Graphic Novels When most people refer to literature that concentrates specifically on the Holocaust as the subjects, the first thought usually isn't in the form of a graphic novel. Most people would believe a graphic novel is something only a child would read or someone to the same educational equivalent. Due to their engaging stories and appealing visuals though, graphic novels are idea for visual learners, inexperienced or unenthused readers, and just about anyone else who may not find traditional print books enticing. Graphic novels tend to show a relationship between the images and the text that makes for an experience in itself (1.). Sometimes even taking on a difficult subject, an example being the Holocaust can make for a different kind of experience. In Maus I & II, the author chose graphic novels as his medium. For that, "Maus shines due to its impressive ability to 'speak the unspeakable' by using the popular maxim, 'a picture is worth a thousand words,' to perfection" (3). As mentioned before, graphic novels can be great tools for some, if not all, readers. As well the holocausts can be a difficult subject, not always easy to read about. Using graphic novels, which often is associated with children, to represent a traumatic event can be problematic: "The enormity of atrocity is such that the very act of representing it risked trivializing or over–dramatizing it,"(2). In other words, the author has to be very cautions when writing serious graphic novels not to get too creative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have already seen the invention of so much technology to get us where we are today, whether that be the Gutenberg Press or Apple's Macintosh Computer. The future of design shows no signs of mercy in terms of slowing down, but just what does the future have in store? Before we can think about the future, we must first understand the past. Design can be dated back as far as pre–historic times through the Lascaux Cave Paintings. Done over 200,000 years ago, it is the earliest known example of writing. It would later be discovered as a form of communications. The Egyptian culture utilized design in their Book of the Deads. Each book was made to include passwords, and spells to help those you have passed away in their afterlife. It would be until the Chinese civilization, and all their world changing inventions, where we would see an emergence of the printing process. Alongside the compass, and gunpowder, the civilization also invented paper, and what is known as Chinese Chops. Chinese Chops were commonly made of jade, silver, or even ivory, and was a stamp like objects that allowed for mass production at the time. Between a combination of the Chops and a shortage of iron, the culture was able to get printing into the hands of everyone through money. • 43. The Importance Of Graphic Design Each and every day, design is consistently changing and evolving. Design is everywhere we go and one cannot help but to see it; graphic design is in television commercials, advertisements, Internet advertisements, visual information, et cetera. Graphic design can be involved in such minute details ranging from a 1–inch sticker to as vast as a national billboard sign. The main goal of graphic designer's is to communicate with a designated target audience through the use of visual elements. Graphic Design has two major components to be considered. Initially the target audience must be identified, this is critical. The target audience will then drive the type of format that will be used to reach the desired audience. Then the designer must explore the reasons for the design, what it is to accomplish all the way taking meticulous measures not to lose focus on the target audience. This is important because it is not enough to create a great design if the message of the design is lost and never actually reaches the intended recipients. The importance of this critical step cannot be emphasized enough. If this detail is overlooked a lot of time, money and resources will be expended for no purpose. Many Graphic Designers that excel in their field tend to lack expertise in communication skills, which are imperative in understanding and meeting the needs of their clientele. The term "graphic design" basically means the art and skill of combining text and images to convey messages on everything and everywhere.2 The very first time the term "graphic design" was used was during 1922 in a newspaper article. By the 1980s, the term was widely used in newspapers, magazines and some publications even ran entire series of articles, attempting to explain what it meant.2 This literature review will cover on the history of graphic design, the impact of digital technology and how digital technology has made life easier. So how did graphic design come about? It all started when Johann Gutenberg invented movable type in 1455 (the 15th century). He invented it because of a reason: to be able to print books. 3 This invention of movable type has caused rapid changes in the world of graphic design. Up till today, many fonts and typefaces that were created back in the 15th century are still being used today. However, the term 'graphic design' originated in the early 20th century when designers started to operate independently. Graphic design actually began when the 'design' of printed materials developed into a practicable commercial activity separated from print.4 The birth of graphic design as a career also began during the 20th century. ... Definition of Graphic Design Graphic design is well–known as visual communication where there is a combination of the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The production encompasses identity, publication, advertisements, website graphics and product packaging (Cezzar, n.d.). According to Jessica Helfand, an American designer, author and educator, had a definition about graphic design as the following: Graphic design is a visual language uniting harmony and balance, color and light, scale and tension, form and content. But it is also an idiomatic language, a language of cues and puns and symbols and allusions, of cultural references and perceptual inferences and that challenge both the intellect and the eye (Helfand, cited in Shaughnessy, 2008) In other words, it could be said that graphic design helps to form the unique identity of specific subjects. From Helfand's perspective, graphic design is not only aesthetic and communicative territory, but also a "language" in visual and idiomatic that graphic designers are required to learn through education and experience. ii. • 71. What is Graphic Design? Billboards, commercials, ads, and even certain products all serve as scapegoats for one of the world's top growing occupations, Graphic design. Collectively graphic design is the creation of art, with the goal of making an impact on someone in some way. Whether it's an ad or purely just art, the goal is to appeal to the senses and emotions. An easier way of saying it is creatively creating ways to obtain others interests. Graphic designers have the responsibility of being creative, trying new things, and thinking outside of the box. Although being completely original isn't necessary either. One must learn how to 'steal like an artist'. Perhaps the most daunting part of being a graphic designer is getting in the correct place of mind to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole goal of making a design is to affect the possible customers in a way that they feel it is necessary to purchase the object or service. There are many ways of affecting the brain this way, for example color scheme. It has been scientifically proven that the colors red, and yellow trigger a certain portion of the brain, and makes people feel as if they are hungry, which is why most fast food restaurants incorporate red and yellow in their color schemes. Companies like to be assured that their design, along with the color scheme, will affect their target market in some way that allows them to achieve, and maintain a population of regular customers. In the past advertising wasn't as hard as it is today, social groups are becoming more and more segregated due to social networking. It's kind of ironic how social networking is actually making us less social, therefore deeming the need for advertisement less important. Towards the end of the 19th century, modernism was becoming more, and more popular. Everything from style, to mass production, even to the use of machines to produce alternative art forms. By the beginning of the 20th century, modernism, had already made an impact on the history of art, and even began to shape what we call today, graphic design. Over time people started using machines to project art more often. Eventually, art forms where developed even further with the help of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Graphic Novels Graphic novels are seen to be successful to those who don't like reading pages of words upon words, but instead acting more like a comic book with semi–detailed pictures that help the reader envision the author's intended view. Although, they do have their limitations on being condensed and lacking details that could allow the reader to fully understand characters in the environment of the novel. With graphic novels, history is a great use to portray many important events such as the Boxer Rebellion in China and provide a novel that can inform an audience of the history and reasoning behind the event. As a whole graphic novels are best in that they can get a point across to the reader much more efficiently than a wordy novel, but not with it's limitations of being condensed in nature and lacking the extra details needed to understand the characters in the story. Therefore, graphic novels reach a wide set of audiences, remains strong in providing voice and portraying it's setting, but is weak with characterization and providing sufficient detail to the understanding of a historic event. To obtain a wider range of an audience, graphic novels will just do that. Graphic novels have many positives to the reader that it helps the reader view the novel in the author's light of thinking. Graphic novels illustrate the scene in comic strip form that only narrative is needed to bring the images to life. In Boxers and Saints, the story of Bao and Vibiana is illustrated so beautifully ... • 75. Graphic Designers These days there are a lot of Graphic Designers offering services online. Perhaps too many. This article covers some useful need–to–knows about Graphic Designers and what to look for when ordering a logo design, brochure design or any of the countless reasons to order a graphic design service for your company or organization's imaging needs. Graphic design services these days (like any services these days) have been on a downward slide for some time now (in this Designer's opinion). Take logos for example. I can't tell you how many logos I see out there featuring a swoosh or swipe looking graphic that shoots out as though orbiting the text that makes up the logo. I would like to tell you that the Designers who created the thousands of swoosh logos out there, utilized this staple of design because it was the best solution for their client. I can just hear them stating how this simple element is really a complex and developed "less is more" approach to their client's design and worth every drop of the hundreds of dollars they are charging for it. I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They should have an About Page, a resume or some form of credentials available on their website. If they don't then its time to leave that website. I do not recommend testimonials because these days there is no way to verify where these wonderful comments came from. Stick to the facts and information that can be verified if need be. If you are paying hundreds of dollars or more for design services then you had better see some years of experience on that Designer's resume. Where did they get their education and did they actually even major in Graphic Design? What does their job history look like. Have they really been a Graphic Designer at every job in their resume? It is worth it to do a little research because chances are you are going to need more design work done in the future and wouldn't it be great to have a Designer you can depend ... • 77. Graphic Design: Typography There were a few ways I could have focused on in the first graphic design sequence class. First, I could have asked more questions to make sure I understood the class material. Second, I realized I need an extra set of eyes to critique my design. Therefore, I hired a graphic design tutor to help me with future design classes. The third important design skill I need to work on is typography, therefore; I started researching ways of designing typography. One of my teachers recommended I should take some calligraphy classes to help me with my creative process in typography. The research I did on different ways to approach a corporate identity logo has helped me to know the importance of typography in design. When it comes to corporate identity, I am learning that graphic design is not about making pretty pictures anymore as when I was a kid, but more about marking a business with a brand. I revisited design language in my research, such as balance, and hierarchy. The ability to know and understand what you are talking about in graphic design is important when you are trying to defend your design in a critique. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
