Lessons learnt
High added value of Enterprise Modeling based on ArchiMate
–But important clarifying the purpose for ICT architects and System Engineers
Some limitations of ArchiMate, which can be solved by:
1. Usage of ArchiMate over UML2 / SysML for distributed collaborative modeling of
composite organization
2. Deriving an Enterprise Modeling Ontology from ArchiMate for linking Enterprise data
17. Modeling over UML2/SysML
« Dynamic Manufacturing Network - Extending limitation of Semantic Hypermodel with mereotopology »
Multi-scales and multiple granularities
Distributed Enterprise Modeling
allowing to aggregate models
Multi-languages modeling:
BPMN, UML/SysML, STEP, ISA 95 etc.
Rules enforced using Object Constraint
Language
No plug-in needed
18. Deriving an ontology from ArchiMate
Strong differentiation between Entities and Relation for OWL classes
OWL relations for reasoning derived from Relations using OWL property chains
Important work for ensuring all ArchiMate relation constraints
Some logical inconsistencies
Consensus required by experts

visualization technology coupled with semantic technologies
Interactive Treemap
Force layout graphs
Model analytics : coupling interactive models with data analytics

23. Conclusion
• More an more complexity resulting from usage of Information and Communication Technologies
• Enterprise Modeling brings important added value for mastering this complexity within the enterprise
• Several advanced uses have been studied in conjunction with MBSE and Virtual Manufacturing, using ArchiMate
• As lessons learnt, ArchiMate is subject for improvement:
• for composite distributed modeling
• for Linked Data and Semantic Web
• for advanced visualization
