3. INTRODUCTION
God’s Glory can be examined in
three ways:
1. As a general category of His
attributes
2. As a specific category referring to
the manifestations of His presence
3. As a personal, individual response
by His creations to honor Him as
God
4. HIS ATTRIBUTES
God’s glory refers primarily to His
majestic beauty and splendor. It
is also an ethical concept and
embraces His holiness:
“for all have sinned and fall
short of the glory of God,”
(Romans 3:23, ESV)
5. HIS PRESENCE
God’s Glory can also refer to the
manifestations of His presence.
This can be images of brilliant
light and/or burning fire. It is
often called the “Shekinah” Glory.
This word is derived from the verb
šākan, (“to settle, dwell”), often
used to denote “to take up visible
occupation in a place.”
6. HIS HONOR
The glory of God can also be
associated with honor. This
typically refers to praise that is
due Him for His mighty acts. The
Hebrew word kāḇôḏ was used for
the sole purpose of exalting God’s
magnificent status, greatness and
His profound excellence.
7. The Hebrew word kāḇôḏ, was most
often used to convey the idea of
heaviness. It was associated with
weight implying “worthiness.” It is
used of men to describe their wealth,
or reputation. Weighing scales were
used to determine the value of
something; the heavier it was the more
value was ascribed to it. When used of
God, kāḇôḏ, refers to His Sovereignty,
Authority and Power. Therefore, all
honor belongs to Him alone!
8. Someone once defined the Glory of
God, as placing Him on the stage of the
universe, having the sun as a spotlight
that shines only on Him as He takes a
bow. In this way, nothing or no one
can be seen but Him. But it is perhaps
better if we view the Glory of God from
this perspective. He is the Creator and
Sustainer of all the universes, with His
“Son” as the spotlight and because of
who He is, we are the ones who bow
down to HIM.
