Designing a logo for the app
1. DESIGNING A LOGO FOR THE APP
Being such a destructive weapon, I want to design a logo for the app (in which controls the mind’s of my characters) to
be unsettling to the eye. When thinking of something that I could incorporate into my filming, I immediately thought of
the use of spiders. Spiders are mesmerising to watch, however most of the world tend to dislike the creatures, bidding
them “creepy” or “thrilling”. These two words fit my genre well, resulting in my choices for the logo.
To create these, I used Adobe Photoshop.
This is my first idea of a logo for my app. I am
very unhappy with this image, as it appears
cheap and unrealistic. The red is overly
conventional to signify danger and the
graphics of the spider are too obvious,
straying from the idea that the app is a virus
on their phones.
Using the paint tool on Photoshop, I mimicked
the shape of the spider slightly then pixelated
the drawing to be more simplistic (like the
logo seen in Black Mirror). The result is more
abstract, but still appears unprofessional.
To develop the idea, I inverted my creation then overlaid
cool tones of blue and green. This is effective as not only
does it symbolise lack of safety, but it also can relate to
technology, making the logo appear more like a glitch
and therefore effective. It is slightly unsymmetrical to
further initiate this idea. THIS IS MY CHOSEN LOGO.
2. REFERENCE
Channel 4’s ‘Black Mirror’ has influenced me in my plot with their episode called ‘White Bear’. The storyline of this episode
follows a girl who is shown to be suffering from memory loss and the world seems to have changed around her. She sees
torture and death, then it is revealed that it is all a form of torture towards her (her being revealed as a murderer of a child).
The logo of the Black Bear (in which is a motif throughout the episode and is a representation of the child) is simplistic and
abstract, hence why I attempted to mimic these qualities in my own logo.
