Story I woke with a start, excitement and anxiety bubbling inside of me. I kept trying to suppress
my smile, but it kept etching its way onto my face. Last night, Christina, my sister, who is in
college, came home, and today we were going to go on our annual snorkeling trip. I wanted to
practice my swimming today, because I wanted to try out for the swim team. Christina was
already on the college swim team, so I was hoping she could help me. When I finally got outside,
my sister and my parents were already there. "Good morning, Christina!" I threw my arms around
her. "Good morning, Nancy, you have grown so tall!" she tousled my hair playfully. I grinned and
grabbed a piece of toast. "Are you both ready to go?" my mom asked. Christina's smile faltered
and her face suddenly turned serious. "I'm not going. I have to study for a big test. I'm so sorry,"
she said, "I know it sounds like a lame excuse but it is a really important test!" "Come on!" I
pleaded, "It's just for a little while! You can take your study material with you and study on the
boat!" She sighed dramatically, "Oh all right... But don't expect me to get into the water." "We will
see about that," I grinned to myself. We walked out the door and to the bus stop. The bus drive to
the deck was uneventful, and when we got on the boat, a lifeguard with a lot of tattoos greeted us
and gave all the passengers on the boat a safety presentation. I started to daydream about making the
swim team.

My Opinion On Personal Experience
Have you ever heard the quote: "Every book you've ever read is just a different combination of
twenty six letters"? If so, then you know how astounding that realization can be. And even though it
may be true in a sense, when a writer sits down to write, they aren't just putting words on paper.
They're tapping into a unique part of their inner consciousness. They're harnessing their imagination
and personal experiences to breathe life into an entire world that they imagined and then assembled.
That is a gift that not every writer is able to possess and it's true what people say: if you aren't feeling
the emotions within your writing as you write, then chances are, the readers won't be either. With that
in mind, it's understandable that empathy, inspiration, and the effort you put forth to connect with
your readers, all contribute to how favorable of a writer you will be.
In my opinion, personal experience isn't always necessary to be able to express certain emotions.
Experiencing something first hand surely helps, although it's possible to get your point across
without it. The ability to empathize with others or to be able to imagine how one must feel will go
a long way while writing. We're all human and understand basic emotions such as contentment, grief,
love, anger, so on and so forth. This mutual understanding between the reader and the writer will
allow you to build on those emotions through words. Overall, I believe the purpose of writing is to
convey an image that

On Your Own: Personal Experience
On Your Own
In this POW I'm explaining what path I am going to take after I am done with high school. Like
whether I'm going to college or not and where I'm going to live. I'm also going to create a plan like
how much my bills would cost and I'm going to afford everything.
Because I'm living in such an expensive city I would have a to help cover the cost of everything. I
would work at a local Taco Bell from 4:30PM to 8:30PM making around $8.37 an hour I found this
job right after had moved to New York. Because my roommates and I will all have jobs rent and
groceries won't be as hard to cover. I would also have at least 1 scholarship from school that'll cover
$3,00 dollars of my college tuition.
I would live in an apartment in Manhattan

Personal Experience
Life is full of adventures and experiences. The key to living well is making these experiences as
meaningful as possible. I went through a very significant experience, which was actually more of a
risk, about two years ago. I was 15 years old and I had to decide whether I would stay in my
hometown or move to Monterrey, Mexico. As in every dilemma faced, there are pros and cons that
will try to sway you. Time wouldn't stop and the day of my decision was getting closer and
closer; the less time I had to decide, the more confused and undecided I became. All I could do was
imagine myself living the future in my hometown or in Monterrey. But, why was I put into this
situation? Should I have stayed where I was born and where I'd lived my whole...show more content...
It would be a good thing to move because my mom and I would now live with my brothers and we
would all be united like we were before. This new beginning would help us overcome the death of
my dad. The bad part was that, as I was about to enter high school, moving to Monterrey without
knowing anyone would be very difficult. I had always studied in the USA, so attending a school in
Mexico would probably lower my grades and make things more complicated. It was all about taking
the risk.
Decision time was near. After I analyzed everything, I understood that the best thing I could was
to move to Monterrey with my mom. This was a very significant experience because it really
impacted me. The first semester was very hard as I felt all alone. As soon as I began making
friends, however I realized I couldn't have made a better decision. People in Monterrey are very
humble and caring. They taught me many things, enabling me to become a better person with better
feelings. These friends were the ones who pulled me closer to God when I most needed Him. There
was no better feeling than getting home and seeing my brothers living with me again. My family was
once again united, and I am very grateful for all of

Personal Experience: College Life
College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my
life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever had. During my undergraduate years, I met
new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents.
And most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living
on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on me. I began to fall apart. I worked two
jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their
own financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships
with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing with anxiety, and my confidence level
dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends
and family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry
on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a façade for the people around me as though
everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that
was always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going
through a depressed time in my life, made me take a stand to make changes in my life. I knew I
could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by. I am a firm believer in the
phrase, "if you see something in your life you do not like, then

Personal Experience: English Composition Course
Focusing in self– evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of
my own mistakes. When the English Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express
my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The continuation of my education was very
difficult, and I began to doubt myself when faced with the first couple of weeks. My first
assignment was my most difficult assignment, and I found myself having trouble sticking to a
thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary
purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized. I choose three
assignments out of the six, which were not only my favorite assignments; they are all written in
classical perspective. I prefer to write in classical perspective so I may get my personal opinion to a
specific audience. As I wrote each assignment I described my past experience as if I was speaking to
a group telling my story. Writing with emotion as I envisioned my past experiences and how I can
get my audience to feel as I felt was my goal. I wrote in classical perspective in the interest of
writing my personality and voice, but it also shows how I perceive my audience. By changing the
structure and organizing my thoughts I was able to shape the overall character of my work. In all
three assignments I wrote in first person point of view. I choose first person view so I can express a

Eye–opening, thought–provoking, and informative are just three words which can be used to
describe my experience from taking this expository writing course. Coming into the course, I was a
bit unsure what to expect from it. For instance, I wondered whether this would be a class where we
will write a bunch of fruitless essays or whether this class will sticks to its theme race in America and
spark meaningful discussion among students of various backgrounds. Fortunately, it ended up being
the latter and was a lot better than I had initially expected – despite it still being a Friday afternoon
bomb.
The two main goals I set for myself in my initial self–assessment paper were to not be afraid of
expressing my true thoughts and be more open–minded. I definitely believe that I achieved both of
the goals. As proven by my contributions to class discussions and what I shared in my essays, I
become comfortable expressing my true thoughts. Although discussions on the theme of our course
could become controversial, I believe that we created a safe space in our class where anyone could
share their thoughts without the fear of being judged by another student or you, the professor. To be
more open–minded towards the different opinions of various scholars which we came across over
the course of the semester, I tried to do away with any implicit biases I may have come into the
class with. This allowed me to better study and analyze the different sources without any
presumptions. One reason I know that I was successful in eliminating any implicit bias I may
have had is because of the results provided by Harvard's implicit bias test. The thing that shocked
me the most over the course of the semester was the results I received after taking Harvard's
implicit bias test again in the end of the semester. When I first took the test, I felt like I was being
set up to show a bias against Black people and of course, the results suggested that I may have a
slight automatic preference for White people over Black people. However, last week, when I took
the test for the second time, the results explained, "Your data suggest a slight automatic preference
for Dark Skinned People over Light Skinned People." This is the opposite result of

The Importance Of Personal Experiences
Every person goes through different experiences that influence the way they mature and the way
they decide future plans. My personal experiences include family factors that influenced the way
I am today. I have not let the unfortunate events let my future plans differ from what was planned
but they have allowed me to accept the things I cannot change and also make me realize the
things I can. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change: courage to change
the things I can: and wisdom to know the difference." Reinhold Neibuhr quoted this in his
lifetime and it has significance to my family. It came into my family 28 years ago from my father
during his recovery time. It is a common quote that is said for recovering patients and treatment
centers. In the last few years I have finally been able to interpret the quote and use it in life for
myself. There are things that I absolutely cannot change and personally I hate that, however, I
believe through faith I am able to decipher these things I can't truly change. Some ideas and things I
can change, but may also be intimidating. I refer to this quote and I am to push past those tough
times and am able to change what I may not want to. To know the difference can be the hardest part
in my opinion. There are things I want to change, but absolutely cannot do. To be able to use this
quote in my life along with my faith, I can conquer all my goals and dreams and that is this specific
quote means a lot to me. My

First and Foremost, I have had many personal experiences throughout the short course of my life,
and I'm sure everyone has had a lot of personal experiences to. Some even that are they are life
threatening, but there is only one in particular that I would like to share with you. For Instance,
when I was smaller I could remember the love and attention I would get from my mother and step
Father. They would take me everywhere with them and feed me all different types of food. That
was a long time ago. I turned Twelve and there was nothing wrong with my happy life with my

sitting in that bed with her. As I walked closer I could see a very little head wrapped up in some

was just having a baby. My baby sister. I actually had a baby sister, I had gotten so excited to the
point I was jumping up and down next to her bed. We left the hospital about 1 hours later due to
my mom's health and strength growing more over the last hour. Afterward, we soon arrived
home and I was beat. So I slipped into my P'Js and quickly went to sleep, so that I could see my
baby sister the next day. It's early in the morning and I hear a noise that is very hard to ignore. IT
WAS VERY ANNOYING!!!!!! I soon find out from my mother that it was my baby sister making
that sound. I guess babies do that when they're hungry since they can't talk. My mom and I were
supposed to go to the park today to watch birds and sit on the swing and have fun, but she told me
that she needs to take care of my sister, so we couldn't go today. My mom told me today to just
play with my games and promised me we would go tomorrow. So I told my mom okay and went
on to play. The next day I heard my sister again and quickly got up and ready to go to the park, but
my mom told me that she couldn't go because my sister needed to be taken care of. At this

What Is My Personal Experience Essay
Everyone has been through a personal experience, whether it has changed their lives for better or
worse. These experiences can be eclectic events such as going out to explore the world or even
devastating events such as tragic accidents. My personal experience occurred a year ago during the
summer when I took a trip to visit San Francisco, California with my family. This trip to San
Francisco was a thrilling adventure due to the city being very beautiful and breathtaking. During
my visit to the city I was able to take part in the beaches, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Six Flags.
To begin with, the beaches near San Francisco are stunning. California has nice weather during the
summer to attend beaches because it is not too hot or chilly outside....show more content...
My family and I were able to cross the famous bridge a few times in the car as we traveled a bit
around California. The view from the bridge was beautiful during the day and as well at night. It
was nice during the day to see the sun sparkling on the water as boats sailed by, but appealing
during nightfall because of the bright lights on the bridge. Also, the city lights around it brought
out the overall awe of the bridge. During one of our passing on the bridge, we were able to make a
quick stop at the top of the hill and take a few family pictures together with the bridge. My brother
would tease me every time anyone brings up our visit to the Golden Gate Bridge because I was
afraid to stand near the edge of the mountain to take our family photos since I imagined I was
going to slip and fall. Furthermore, as we traveled through the bridge I had noticed telephone
posts on either side of the bridge. These telephones were for the suicidal people who thought it
was time to end their lives. The telephones were used to connect those who were suicidal to a
counselor to help talk them out of committing such a tragedy. They may have helped saved plenty
lives. It has been known by many that the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the many bridges that
countless of people tend to go to in order to attempt

Being a first–time freshman is exciting and intimidating at the same time, for me it is higher than
the average because I do not usually adventure beyond the set path. This is why I appreciate my
friends, who are thrill seekers and tag me along with them. At the California State University of
Bakersfield, I have found the freedom to break away from the set path by following the trail on an
Outdoor Adventure and experiencing the Piedra Blanca Formation Hike. My friend Ana* had
invited me to accompany her on this hike because of the accessibility of the trip. The trip was priced
ten dollars which is a bargain compared to the amazing excursion my friends and I were on. *(I am
changing my friend's name for their privacy) This trip included the transportation from the
University to the Piedra Blanca Formation, and lunch. The day of the trip I was feeling sick and I did
consider canceling but I decided I was not feeling too sick and the fresh air would help. I was
waiting for my friend Ana and as she picked me up she invited me to grab a special Starbucks
drink called the medicine ball, it is a mix of different herbal teas, which surprisingly did help me
feel better. We arrive at the university parking lot and there are around ten other people ready to
head out and we are all adrenalized and nervous to go on the trip. My friend Ana and I were
preparing our snacks to head out and as we are boarding the van we meet the two other passengers,
who were the trip leaders. Both were

Personal Narrative: A Personal Experience
I struggled to identify a personal experience that impact my life as the topic for this paper. After
days of thought about the assignment, I sat down to write, but I ended up staring at a blank
computer screen for a long time. I thought to myself, I am struggling. This thought prompted me to
think of all the times that I had struggled in my life. I remembered struggling in basketball, school,
and everyday life. As I thought about them, I realized that I got through them and benefitted from the
experiences. Pushing myself to my limits, looking for ways to get better, and refusing to quit had
produced some good results in my life. People tend to associate struggling as a bad thing because it
is a difficult experience usually filled with frustration. That can be true, but it can also lead to
positive changes in life. I wanted to show how struggling with something can have positive results.

The problem with that strategy was that it did not allow me to dive deep enough into the
experience to allow the reader to gain the knowledge of my feelings. After receiving feedback on
my that draft, I knew that I had to go in a different direction. I picked just one experience and
really went into depth with it. This allowed me to be able to share with the reader a true sense of
nervousness, frustration, satisfaction, relief, and joy. I was able to take the reader on the journey
from the start to the end. After reading my paper, I wanted the reader to realize that everyone
struggles in many ways. It is how a person reacts to the struggle that matters. It was through this
experience that I became a better student and person. As a reader, did this cause you to think of your
own experiences with struggle? Do you see how struggling could benefit a person? Did you feel my

My Personal Experience
Although we've all experienced any degree of disappointments in our lives, there are a select few
that tend to stick with us. They act as assets in our lives, tools to use help us grow. The way a
person deals with disappointment speaks volume about who someone is. Personally, I am the
kind of person who likes to have constants in my life; commodities that won't change and those
that I can depend on when everything else is unstable. When I was in my second year of middle
school, one of my biggest constants was my band director, Ms. Palmer. The way my school district
operated, all the middle school directors would also help in the mornings at the high school band
class. As a result of this, once my brother and sister left our middle school,...show more content...
This shattered all confidence I had for going to high school, all hope for comfort I previously had.
All of a sudden, my main constant dissolved. The only thing that I had going for me, the safety
net in my life ceased to provide comfort. From this event, I feel that I learned a great deal about
how I personally coped with disappointment and major changes in my life. After tears had been
shed and the questions were answered, I had an opportunity to develop and to mature from this.
After adequate contemplation, I realized that it wasn't the best idea to depend on other people so
deeply. In my youth, I had been raised and taught how to be independent and to care for myself,
making sure that I could give myself all I needed to become successful. This loss of someone
turned out to be invaluably important in my life and further reinforced my idea that the only
person you should depend on is yourself. Though this sounds grim, I am able to attribute much of
my success to my personal independence. I've learned how to set goals for myself, how to motivate
myself to try and rise above negative situations and develop from them. Ms. Palmer leaving sparked
my first internal revision that has thus led to a personal reflection resulting in the mindset I possess
now. Several years later, I have the ability to reflect upon myself in a more timely and constructive
manner. Looking at situations like these in a useful light, disappointments are a fantastic

Last weekend my beautiful friend Yamuna was married in a storm of confetti and colour and I
have never experienced anything like it. The air was close and we spent the weekend in a haze of
heat and sunshine, sleeping on a rooftop under the stars and celebrating their love. (I can't explain
just how special it is to know that our first Indian marriage was the love marriage of such a dear
friend). We travelled out to her village– a nine hour drive from Hyderabad– by semi–sleeper bus.
The adventures began early, as at quarter past four in the morning the bus stopped and we all got
off to stretch our legs. Outside the sky was clear, icy black with abundant stars. We trailed behind a
group of sari–clad women down a dusty street in the darkness, not entirely sure of where we were,
looking for a washroom. We passed a building and one of them said "It is open only." Naively I
think this means the bathroom is inside, and unlocked. It turned out that in rural India "open" doesn't
mean unlocked but non–existent. We walk further down, and suddenly about a dozen of these
sari–clad women squat together, to do their business on a quiet patch of the roadside. I think it's
fair to say that whatever I thought culture shock was when I first arrived here was nothing to what
I felt last weekend. Everything was so different to our Hyderabad home. It felt like I was relearning
how to conquer India all over again.
The bus deposits us in one village, about five am, and we climb off looking

I have proactively engaged in research activity throughout my undergraduate program. I had my first
research experience in Dr. B Anand's lab, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, during my

and engineer its amino acid sequence to make them into fluorescent ones. Our approach was mainly
based upon the studies of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from a jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Tools
like Python programming language, Gromacs, Ribosome, PROSS, and Pymol were used to study
the structural components of non–fluorescent proteins. I gained invaluable...show more content...
I was challenged with cloning ydeH gene into the pJT118 plasmids which are green light sensitive.
The ydeH gene produces a protein named diguanylate cyclase, which induces the production of

International Bio–molecular design competition (BIOMOD) 2012 held at Wyss Institute, Harvard

During this internship, apart from gaining deeper technical experience, I realized that I could work
on a research problem with a certain degree of independence, figuring out right approaches and
proposing useful experiments. I acquired more confidence in my aptitude for research and it has
been boosted while working on my undergraduate projects.

The class I could see wasn't very enthusiastic about my added presence in their classroom. I

other diagnosis, but they also have to deal with poverty. I was told by Mr. Hanson that most of the
students in the special education department never graduate, because education is not an important
factor in their life. Most of their parents/parent want the kids to be home helping to either take care
of younger siblings while working or to help out at home.
As the weeks progressed, I found the job more enjoyable, because once the students felt comfortable

Personal Experience with Writing
I have always considered writing to be a work in progress, and it constantly can be improved. I have
always been devoted to writing. I loved to write stories as a child because I could use my creativity
and create any type of character I desired. But I have struggled with writing as well. English has
never been my forte. I have received A's, B's, C's, and D's on essays. I truly never found my voice in
writing. In my high school, English teachers would give me mixed reviews on my writing. For
example, in 9th grade my English teacher said I was organized with my thoughts, and my writing
process was excellent. While in 10th,11th grade ,12th grade my teachers only said negative things
about my essays. Not being a strong writer made me...show more content...

challenging to decide how I wanted to structure each essay. But, challenge is the key towards
being a perfect writer. Finally, reflecting on English 114A/B my attitude and style of writing has
changed. My attitude has changed because now I see writing as being therapeutic. I see writing
as something to help me relieve stress. It allows me release my feelings, rather than expressing

habit of starting all my essay's with a quote. It was not easy to be open to changing my writing
style. I had to step out of my comfort zone. For instance, some people are scared of change
because they believe that change is bad, because you do not know what to expect. I was not scared
to change my writing style because I look as change as challenge, and the opportunity to start
something new. Adjusting my writing style was a challenge, but I was able to do it. It is

Personal Experience Essay Watching my brothers graduate from college and move to far–off

reputation of California of being expensive to live in, he had somehow found an apartment that

However, I believe that with a little bit of some confidence and patience, I could learn to enjoy

a time–restricted environment. However, I am excited to see how my impression of writing changes

Being diagnosed with attention deficit disorder has been a major obstacle and inspiration for me.
I was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder when I was in first grade; from that time through
high school I received services and medication to alleviate its effects. The day I entered college as
a first year student I stopped taking that medication and I have never used the services offered at the
Office of Students with Disabilities. My goal was to succeed in college on my own. My experiences
with my disability have influenced to become a teacher.
As a young child, I was struggling in all aspects of primary school, my parents decided to seek help.
One of my teachers suggested that my mother enroll me in a special education support program.

Old Westbury has been very productive in developing these skills further. One profound
experience came in my first year, in my International Relations course. It marked my first time
writing a large research paper at the undergraduate level. The paper was strong when it came to
concepts; however when it came grammar and structure, it was weak. Professor Eloise Linger
took time out with me to go over my paper to show what I could do to make improvements. That
action that seems so small has had such a massive impact on me. I reference that paper every time I
write a research paper to make sure I am not making the same mistakes. That is what is so
remarkable about the faculty at Old Westbury. They went the extra mile. They will do anything for
one of their students: from staying late in the night to help them register for classes, to meeting with
them to help them reinforce concepts they teach in class.
Personal experiences in school have influenced me to continue my education to become a social
studies teacher. My passion for learning, positive attitude, respect for others and ability to be
flexible allow me to be a great presence in the classroom. However my own personal experiences
in school will be my greatest strength. I see myself as a prime example of the incredible doors a
teacher can help open for a student with their guidance. The opportunity to help others achieve their
life's goals for a living would be a truly incredible

Personal Experience Essay Ideas

  • 1. Story I woke with a start, excitement and anxiety bubbling inside of me. I kept trying to suppress my smile, but it kept etching its way onto my face. Last night, Christina, my sister, who is in college, came home, and today we were going to go on our annual snorkeling trip. I wanted to practice my swimming today, because I wanted to try out for the swim team. Christina was already on the college swim team, so I was hoping she could help me. When I finally got outside, my sister and my parents were already there. "Good morning, Christina!" I threw my arms around her. "Good morning, Nancy, you have grown so tall!" she tousled my hair playfully. I grinned and grabbed a piece of toast. "Are you both ready to go?" my mom asked. Christina's smile faltered and her face suddenly turned serious. "I'm not going. I have to study for a big test. I'm so sorry," she said, "I know it sounds like a lame excuse but it is a really important test!" "Come on!" I pleaded, "It's just for a little while! You can take your study material with you and study on the boat!" She sighed dramatically, "Oh all right... But don't expect me to get into the water." "We will see about that," I grinned to myself. We walked out the door and to the bus stop. The bus drive to the deck was uneventful, and when we got on the boat, a lifeguard with a lot of tattoos greeted us and gave all the passengers on the boat a safety presentation. I started to daydream about making the swim team. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Opinion On Personal Experience Have you ever heard the quote: "Every book you've ever read is just a different combination of twenty six letters"? If so, then you know how astounding that realization can be. And even though it may be true in a sense, when a writer sits down to write, they aren't just putting words on paper. They're tapping into a unique part of their inner consciousness. They're harnessing their imagination and personal experiences to breathe life into an entire world that they imagined and then assembled. That is a gift that not every writer is able to possess and it's true what people say: if you aren't feeling the emotions within your writing as you write, then chances are, the readers won't be either. With that in mind, it's understandable that empathy, inspiration, and the effort you put forth to connect with your readers, all contribute to how favorable of a writer you will be. In my opinion, personal experience isn't always necessary to be able to express certain emotions. Experiencing something first hand surely helps, although it's possible to get your point across without it. The ability to empathize with others or to be able to imagine how one must feel will go a long way while writing. We're all human and understand basic emotions such as contentment, grief, love, anger, so on and so forth. This mutual understanding between the reader and the writer will allow you to build on those emotions through words. Overall, I believe the purpose of writing is to convey an image that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. On Your Own: Personal Experience On Your Own In this POW I'm explaining what path I am going to take after I am done with high school. Like whether I'm going to college or not and where I'm going to live. I'm also going to create a plan like how much my bills would cost and I'm going to afford everything. Because I'm living in such an expensive city I would have a to help cover the cost of everything. I would work at a local Taco Bell from 4:30PM to 8:30PM making around $8.37 an hour I found this job right after had moved to New York. Because my roommates and I will all have jobs rent and groceries won't be as hard to cover. I would also have at least 1 scholarship from school that'll cover $3,00 dollars of my college tuition. I would live in an apartment in Manhattan Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Experience Life is full of adventures and experiences. The key to living well is making these experiences as meaningful as possible. I went through a very significant experience, which was actually more of a risk, about two years ago. I was 15 years old and I had to decide whether I would stay in my hometown or move to Monterrey, Mexico. As in every dilemma faced, there are pros and cons that will try to sway you. Time wouldn't stop and the day of my decision was getting closer and closer; the less time I had to decide, the more confused and undecided I became. All I could do was imagine myself living the future in my hometown or in Monterrey. But, why was I put into this situation? Should I have stayed where I was born and where I'd lived my whole...show more content... It would be a good thing to move because my mom and I would now live with my brothers and we would all be united like we were before. This new beginning would help us overcome the death of my dad. The bad part was that, as I was about to enter high school, moving to Monterrey without knowing anyone would be very difficult. I had always studied in the USA, so attending a school in Mexico would probably lower my grades and make things more complicated. It was all about taking the risk. Decision time was near. After I analyzed everything, I understood that the best thing I could was to move to Monterrey with my mom. This was a very significant experience because it really impacted me. The first semester was very hard as I felt all alone. As soon as I began making friends, however I realized I couldn't have made a better decision. People in Monterrey are very humble and caring. They taught me many things, enabling me to become a better person with better feelings. These friends were the ones who pulled me closer to God when I most needed Him. There was no better feeling than getting home and seeing my brothers living with me again. My family was once again united, and I am very grateful for all of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Experience: College Life College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever had. During my undergraduate years, I met new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents. And most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on me. I began to fall apart. I worked two jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their own financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing with anxiety, and my confidence level dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends and family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a faГ§ade for the people around me as though everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that was always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going through a depressed time in my life, made me take a stand to make changes in my life. I knew I could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by. I am a firm believer in the phrase, "if you see something in your life you do not like, then Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Experience: English Composition Course Focusing in self– evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of my own mistakes. When the English Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The continuation of my education was very difficult, and I began to doubt myself when faced with the first couple of weeks. My first assignment was my most difficult assignment, and I found myself having trouble sticking to a thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized. I choose three assignments out of the six, which were not only my favorite assignments; they are all written in classical perspective. I prefer to write in classical perspective so I may get my personal opinion to a specific audience. As I wrote each assignment I described my past experience as if I was speaking to a group telling my story. Writing with emotion as I envisioned my past experiences and how I can get my audience to feel as I felt was my goal. I wrote in classical perspective in the interest of writing my personality and voice, but it also shows how I perceive my audience. By changing the structure and organizing my thoughts I was able to shape the overall character of my work. In all three assignments I wrote in first person point of view. I choose first person view so I can express a more personal, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Eye–opening, thought–provoking, and informative are just three words which can be used to describe my experience from taking this expository writing course. Coming into the course, I was a bit unsure what to expect from it. For instance, I wondered whether this would be a class where we will write a bunch of fruitless essays or whether this class will sticks to its theme race in America and spark meaningful discussion among students of various backgrounds. Fortunately, it ended up being the latter and was a lot better than I had initially expected – despite it still being a Friday afternoon bomb. The two main goals I set for myself in my initial self–assessment paper were to not be afraid of expressing my true thoughts and be more open–minded. I definitely believe that I achieved both of the goals. As proven by my contributions to class discussions and what I shared in my essays, I become comfortable expressing my true thoughts. Although discussions on the theme of our course could become controversial, I believe that we created a safe space in our class where anyone could share their thoughts without the fear of being judged by another student or you, the professor. To be more open–minded towards the different opinions of various scholars which we came across over the course of the semester, I tried to do away with any implicit biases I may have come into the class with. This allowed me to better study and analyze the different sources without any presumptions. One reason I know that I was successful in eliminating any implicit bias I may have had is because of the results provided by Harvard's implicit bias test. The thing that shocked me the most over the course of the semester was the results I received after taking Harvard's implicit bias test again in the end of the semester. When I first took the test, I felt like I was being set up to show a bias against Black people and of course, the results suggested that I may have a slight automatic preference for White people over Black people. However, last week, when I took the test for the second time, the results explained, "Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Dark Skinned People over Light Skinned People." This is the opposite result of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Importance Of Personal Experiences Every person goes through different experiences that influence the way they mature and the way they decide future plans. My personal experiences include family factors that influenced the way I am today. I have not let the unfortunate events let my future plans differ from what was planned but they have allowed me to accept the things I cannot change and also make me realize the things I can. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change: courage to change the things I can: and wisdom to know the difference." Reinhold Neibuhr quoted this in his lifetime and it has significance to my family. It came into my family 28 years ago from my father during his recovery time. It is a common quote that is said for recovering patients and treatment centers. In the last few years I have finally been able to interpret the quote and use it in life for myself. There are things that I absolutely cannot change and personally I hate that, however, I believe through faith I am able to decipher these things I can't truly change. Some ideas and things I can change, but may also be intimidating. I refer to this quote and I am to push past those tough times and am able to change what I may not want to. To know the difference can be the hardest part in my opinion. There are things I want to change, but absolutely cannot do. To be able to use this quote in my life along with my faith, I can conquer all my goals and dreams and that is this specific quote means a lot to me. My Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Personal Experience Essay First and Foremost, I have had many personal experiences throughout the short course of my life, and I'm sure everyone has had a lot of personal experiences to. Some even that are they are life threatening, but there is only one in particular that I would like to share with you. For Instance, when I was smaller I could remember the love and attention I would get from my mother and step Father. They would take me everywhere with them and feed me all different types of food. That was a long time ago. I turned Twelve and there was nothing wrong with my happy life with my brother, mom, and step dad. Then I realized my mom was getting a little over weight and sick a lot. I remember feeling horrible to the point to where I could feel her pain...show more content... I saw my mom on a bed with wheels, she seemed very happy, but my mom wasn't the only thing sitting in that bed with her. As I walked closer I could see a very little head wrapped up in some form of blanket. I walked closer to the bed. I soon found out that my mother wasn't sick at all she was just having a baby. My baby sister. I actually had a baby sister, I had gotten so excited to the point I was jumping up and down next to her bed. We left the hospital about 1 hours later due to my mom's health and strength growing more over the last hour. Afterward, we soon arrived home and I was beat. So I slipped into my P'Js and quickly went to sleep, so that I could see my baby sister the next day. It's early in the morning and I hear a noise that is very hard to ignore. IT WAS VERY ANNOYING!!!!!! I soon find out from my mother that it was my baby sister making that sound. I guess babies do that when they're hungry since they can't talk. My mom and I were supposed to go to the park today to watch birds and sit on the swing and have fun, but she told me that she needs to take care of my sister, so we couldn't go today. My mom told me today to just play with my games and promised me we would go tomorrow. So I told my mom okay and went on to play. The next day I heard my sister again and quickly got up and ready to go to the park, but my mom told me that she couldn't go because my sister needed to be taken care of. • 10. What Is My Personal Experience Essay Everyone has been through a personal experience, whether it has changed their lives for better or worse. These experiences can be eclectic events such as going out to explore the world or even devastating events such as tragic accidents. My personal experience occurred a year ago during the summer when I took a trip to visit San Francisco, California with my family. This trip to San Francisco was a thrilling adventure due to the city being very beautiful and breathtaking. During my visit to the city I was able to take part in the beaches, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Six Flags. To begin with, the beaches near San Francisco are stunning. California has nice weather during the summer to attend beaches because it is not too hot or chilly outside....show more content... My family and I were able to cross the famous bridge a few times in the car as we traveled a bit around California. The view from the bridge was beautiful during the day and as well at night. It was nice during the day to see the sun sparkling on the water as boats sailed by, but appealing during nightfall because of the bright lights on the bridge. Also, the city lights around it brought out the overall awe of the bridge. During one of our passing on the bridge, we were able to make a quick stop at the top of the hill and take a few family pictures together with the bridge. My brother would tease me every time anyone brings up our visit to the Golden Gate Bridge because I was afraid to stand near the edge of the mountain to take our family photos since I imagined I was going to slip and fall. Furthermore, as we traveled through the bridge I had noticed telephone posts on either side of the bridge. These telephones were for the suicidal people who thought it was time to end their lives. The telephones were used to connect those who were suicidal to a counselor to help talk them out of committing such a tragedy. They may have helped saved plenty lives. It has been known by many that the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the many bridges that countless of people tend to go to in order to attempt Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Personal Experience And My Experience Being a first–time freshman is exciting and intimidating at the same time, for me it is higher than the average because I do not usually adventure beyond the set path. This is why I appreciate my friends, who are thrill seekers and tag me along with them. At the California State University of Bakersfield, I have found the freedom to break away from the set path by following the trail on an Outdoor Adventure and experiencing the Piedra Blanca Formation Hike. My friend Ana* had invited me to accompany her on this hike because of the accessibility of the trip. The trip was priced ten dollars which is a bargain compared to the amazing excursion my friends and I were on. *(I am changing my friend's name for their privacy) This trip included the transportation from the University to the Piedra Blanca Formation, and lunch. The day of the trip I was feeling sick and I did consider canceling but I decided I was not feeling too sick and the fresh air would help. I was waiting for my friend Ana and as she picked me up she invited me to grab a special Starbucks drink called the medicine ball, it is a mix of different herbal teas, which surprisingly did help me feel better. We arrive at the university parking lot and there are around ten other people ready to head out and we are all adrenalized and nervous to go on the trip. My friend Ana and I were preparing our snacks to head out and as we are boarding the van we meet the two other passengers, who were the trip leaders. Both were Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Personal Narrative: A Personal Experience I struggled to identify a personal experience that impact my life as the topic for this paper. After days of thought about the assignment, I sat down to write, but I ended up staring at a blank computer screen for a long time. I thought to myself, I am struggling. This thought prompted me to think of all the times that I had struggled in my life. I remembered struggling in basketball, school, and everyday life. As I thought about them, I realized that I got through them and benefitted from the experiences. Pushing myself to my limits, looking for ways to get better, and refusing to quit had produced some good results in my life. People tend to associate struggling as a bad thing because it is a difficult experience usually filled with frustration. That can be true, but it can also lead to positive changes in life. I wanted to show how struggling with something can have positive results. ...show more content... The problem with that strategy was that it did not allow me to dive deep enough into the experience to allow the reader to gain the knowledge of my feelings. After receiving feedback on my that draft, I knew that I had to go in a different direction. I picked just one experience and really went into depth with it. This allowed me to be able to share with the reader a true sense of nervousness, frustration, satisfaction, relief, and joy. I was able to take the reader on the journey from the start to the end. After reading my paper, I wanted the reader to realize that everyone struggles in many ways. It is how a person reacts to the struggle that matters. It was through this experience that I became a better student and person. As a reader, did this cause you to think of your own experiences with struggle? Do you see how struggling could benefit a person? Did you feel my emotional struggle and personal growth throughout the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. My Personal Experience Although we've all experienced any degree of disappointments in our lives, there are a select few that tend to stick with us. They act as assets in our lives, tools to use help us grow. The way a person deals with disappointment speaks volume about who someone is. Personally, I am the kind of person who likes to have constants in my life; commodities that won't change and those that I can depend on when everything else is unstable. When I was in my second year of middle school, one of my biggest constants was my band director, Ms. Palmer. The way my school district operated, all the middle school directors would also help in the mornings at the high school band class. As a result of this, once my brother and sister left our middle school,...show more content... This shattered all confidence I had for going to high school, all hope for comfort I previously had. All of a sudden, my main constant dissolved. The only thing that I had going for me, the safety net in my life ceased to provide comfort. From this event, I feel that I learned a great deal about how I personally coped with disappointment and major changes in my life. After tears had been shed and the questions were answered, I had an opportunity to develop and to mature from this. After adequate contemplation, I realized that it wasn't the best idea to depend on other people so deeply. In my youth, I had been raised and taught how to be independent and to care for myself, making sure that I could give myself all I needed to become successful. This loss of someone turned out to be invaluably important in my life and further reinforced my idea that the only person you should depend on is yourself. Though this sounds grim, I am able to attribute much of my success to my personal independence. I've learned how to set goals for myself, how to motivate myself to try and rise above negative situations and develop from them. Ms. Palmer leaving sparked my first internal revision that has thus led to a personal reflection resulting in the mindset I possess now. Several years later, I have the ability to reflect upon myself in a more timely and constructive manner. Looking at situations like these in a useful light, disappointments are a fantastic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Last weekend my beautiful friend Yamuna was married in a storm of confetti and colour and I have never experienced anything like it. The air was close and we spent the weekend in a haze of heat and sunshine, sleeping on a rooftop under the stars and celebrating their love. (I can't explain just how special it is to know that our first Indian marriage was the love marriage of such a dear friend). We travelled out to her village– a nine hour drive from Hyderabad– by semi–sleeper bus. The adventures began early, as at quarter past four in the morning the bus stopped and we all got off to stretch our legs. Outside the sky was clear, icy black with abundant stars. We trailed behind a group of sari–clad women down a dusty street in the darkness, not entirely sure of where we were, looking for a washroom. We passed a building and one of them said "It is open only." Naively I think this means the bathroom is inside, and unlocked. It turned out that in rural India "open" doesn't mean unlocked but non–existent. We walk further down, and suddenly about a dozen of these sari–clad women squat together, to do their business on a quiet patch of the roadside. I think it's fair to say that whatever I thought culture shock was when I first arrived here was nothing to what I felt last weekend. Everything was so different to our Hyderabad home. It felt like I was relearning how to conquer India all over again. The bus deposits us in one village, about five am, and we climb off looking Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Research Experience I have proactively engaged in research activity throughout my undergraduate program. I had my first research experience in Dr. B Anand's lab, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, during my second year. The aim of the project was to study the non–fluorescent beta–barrel structured proteins and engineer its amino acid sequence to make them into fluorescent ones. Our approach was mainly based upon the studies of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from a jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Tools like Python programming language, Gromacs, Ribosome, PROSS, and Pymol were used to study the structural components of non–fluorescent proteins. I gained invaluable...show more content... I was challenged with cloning ydeH gene into the pJT118 plasmids which are green light sensitive. The ydeH gene produces a protein named diguanylate cyclase, which induces the production of c–di–GMP in Rosetta strain. This project gave me an opportunity to participate and win silver at International Bio–molecular design competition (BIOMOD) 2012 held at Wyss Institute, Harvard University, USA. Most of the molecular genetic techniques were extensively used in my project. During this internship, apart from gaining deeper technical experience, I realized that I could work on a research problem with a certain degree of independence, figuring out right approaches and proposing useful experiments. I acquired more confidence in my aptitude for research and it has been boosted while working on my undergraduate projects. As a part of my undergraduate thesis, I worked on a project 'Extraction and analysis of beauvericin, a mycotoxin produced by Beauveria bassiana and its cytotoxic effects on the SF–21 (immortalized pupal ovarian cells isolated from Spodoptera frugiperda) cell line' under the guidance of Dr. Gurvinder Kaur Saini, IIT Guwahati. Beauvericin metabolite was extracted from the Beauveria bassiana isolates UB17 and UB21, by using n–hexane extraction method and the presence of beauvericin was analyzed and confirmed with High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass spectroscopy (MS). • 16. Essay about Personal Experience Personal Experience I have had the great opportunity to be apart of a great program and class at college. Most of us who are going to become teachers know about this class and the required 80 hours of volunteering at a middle school for a semester. I was eager to volunteer, because I have experience in working with middle school kids. The school I work for, has prepared me to handle school aged kids, so I was relying on my background to carry me though the semester at a new Middle school. The privileges of a private school are a lot different from an inner city school. When I began to volunteer at Baker I was shocked to discover that the students were not allowed to take books home to finish their school...show more content... Hanson. Mr. Hanson is a teacher in the special education department at Baker. Mr. Hanson explained to me that these students are in the special education classes so they can gain the skills to eventually re–enter the normal public school classes. Mr. Hanson explained to the students who I was, why I was here, and how long I was staying. The class I could see wasn't very enthusiastic about my added presence in their classroom. I debated on the technique I would use to gain their trust and respect. Imagine a frozen lake and every step you take is a risk, because you are not sure if the ice is going to hold or crack and break right under you. This is exactly how I felt the first week of my volunteering at Baker. I will be honest; my first week wasn't the greatest, because I was learning the ropes of the special education department. These kids in the special education program not only have to deal with their ADD, and other diagnosis, but they also have to deal with poverty. I was told by Mr. Hanson that most of the students in the special education department never graduate, because education is not an important factor in their life. Most of their parents/parent want the kids to be home helping to either take care of younger siblings while working or to help out at home. As the weeks progressed, I found the job more enjoyable, because once the students felt comfortable with a new element in their classroom Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Personal Experience with Writing I have always considered writing to be a work in progress, and it constantly can be improved. I have always been devoted to writing. I loved to write stories as a child because I could use my creativity and create any type of character I desired. But I have struggled with writing as well. English has never been my forte. I have received A's, B's, C's, and D's on essays. I truly never found my voice in writing. In my high school, English teachers would give me mixed reviews on my writing. For example, in 9th grade my English teacher said I was organized with my thoughts, and my writing process was excellent. While in 10th,11th grade ,12th grade my teachers only said negative things about my essays. Not being a strong writer made me...show more content... The essay prompts, that I was given allowed me to challenge myself. The essay prompts were challenging because each essay I had to approach it differently. For each essay, I wanted to be creative on how I would approach it. As a writer, you have always change you writing. It was challenging to decide how I wanted to structure each essay. But, challenge is the key towards being a perfect writer. Finally, reflecting on English 114A/B my attitude and style of writing has changed. My attitude has changed because now I see writing as being therapeutic. I see writing as something to help me relieve stress. It allows me release my feelings, rather than expressing my words to someone. Also, my style of writing has changed. Taking the English stretch course at CSUN allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. For instance, I was able to let go of the five paragraph essay. It was hard, but I was able to do it slowly. Moreover, I was able to let go of the habit of starting all my essay's with a quote. It was not easy to be open to changing my writing style. I had to step out of my comfort zone. For instance, some people are scared of change because they believe that change is bad, because you do not know what to expect. I was not scared to change my writing style because I look as change as challenge, and the opportunity to start something new. Adjusting my writing style was a challenge, but I was able to do it. • 18. Personal Experience Essay Watching my brothers graduate from college and move to far–off locations, doing interesting, fulfilling work and having exciting lives filled me with envy. On Sundays when they would load up their new cars to drive back to their jobs in neighboring states, I wished I could go along, just to hang out in one of their apartments and see what life was like on my own. Monday arrived too soon, like a rocket powered by the most potential caffeine and urgency imaginable, and I was back to school. I could hardly wait to get through my own classes at the local university and get out on my own, with them. One lived in San Diego and despite the reputation of California of being expensive to live in, he had somehow found an apartment that was less than many in our home city. With the goal of moving to the same apartment building as my brother, I was galvanized on finishing the school year as quickly as I could and moving out to San Diego to spend the summer with him. I envisioned we'd have a great time together. At the end of June my finals were done and I promptly packed up my car and drove to San Diego. I arrived at my brother's apartment on a Saturday evening. He and his friends helped me unpack my car, and we settled in. The first weekend was fun; he and his friends took me to many of the fun places to visit including downtown San Diego, Mission Beach, and La Jolla. When Monday rolled around my brother was up and out the door by 7:15am to get to work on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Christian Hannah Professor Weeks (Mackey) ENC1101– FSCJ 09/20/2017 Lost As a writer, I find myself getting lost. Typically, when I go to start writing I hit a brick wall. It's as if all my thoughts suddenly escape my mind and I draw a blank. It takes me forever to conjure up some form of a thesis and then takes even longer to figure out what I should write to support it in a way that makes sense. Then, attempting to find a way to organize my ideas and put them together in cohesive paragraphs seems like an impossible task in the moment. It is not uncommon for me to get flustered and just throw something down on the paper because I get anxious seeing how much work is left to do. If I end up going back to read it over prior to submission,...show more content... Also, I know I can get off topic when I run out of ideas so keeping the main idea consistent throughout the essay is something I surely need to improve upon. On the contrary, some strengths I possess include proper utilization of grammar and diverse vocabulary. My attitude towards writing is very unfavorable. I just don't enjoy it at all. It's a very tedious task when you factor in all of the revision steps that it takes to produce a quality essay. Writing requires a long amount of time spent planning and preparing that is not for impatient people like myself. However, I believe that with a little bit of some confidence and patience, I could learn to enjoy myself when I write. I think it's a great outlet for some but just hasn't ever really been something that made me feel relaxed or stress–free. Writing just clouds my head with confusion and anxiety. I guess I can blame this on the fact that all my previous experiences writing has been academic and in a time–restricted environment. However, I am excited to see how my impression of writing changes throughout my college career now that I am not confined to a forty–minute window. I know that a bad habit I seem to have developed is getting lazy with how beefy the content of my essay is. Sometimes I won't completely explain something or won't finish a thought because I tend to get discouraged or because I'm under pressure to finish Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Being diagnosed with attention deficit disorder has been a major obstacle and inspiration for me. I was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder when I was in first grade; from that time through high school I received services and medication to alleviate its effects. The day I entered college as a first year student I stopped taking that medication and I have never used the services offered at the Office of Students with Disabilities. My goal was to succeed in college on my own. My experiences with my disability have influenced to become a teacher. As a young child, I was struggling in all aspects of primary school, my parents decided to seek help. One of my teachers suggested that my mother enroll me in a special education support program. ...show more content... Old Westbury has been very productive in developing these skills further. One profound experience came in my first year, in my International Relations course. It marked my first time writing a large research paper at the undergraduate level. The paper was strong when it came to concepts; however when it came grammar and structure, it was weak. Professor Eloise Linger took time out with me to go over my paper to show what I could do to make improvements. That action that seems so small has had such a massive impact on me. I reference that paper every time I write a research paper to make sure I am not making the same mistakes. That is what is so remarkable about the faculty at Old Westbury. They went the extra mile. They will do anything for one of their students: from staying late in the night to help them register for classes, to meeting with them to help them reinforce concepts they teach in class. Personal experiences in school have influenced me to continue my education to become a social studies teacher. My passion for learning, positive attitude, respect for others and ability to be flexible allow me to be a great presence in the classroom. However my own personal experiences in school will be my greatest strength. I see myself as a prime example of the incredible doors a teacher can help open for a student with their guidance. The opportunity to help others achieve their life's goals for a living would be a truly incredible Get more content on HelpWriting.net
