INTRODUCTION
• COVID-19 pandemic may be considered as one of the world’s most serious
education crises to occur in the recent past (Gangahagedra et al., 2021,p.).
• Many countries used the Distance education system to mitigate this
impact on the education sector.
• Although this methodology is not new to the developed countries of the
world, it is a new experience for Sri Lanka (Usgoda Arachchi, 2020).
• Switching to Distance Education without any prior preparation is a big
challenge for rural schools.
• Here , Teachers, children and parents all are face different challenges. It is
important to find out such challenges and solutions for it.
OBJECTIVES
• Main objective the overall objective of this study is to
understand challenges faced by rural schools in distance
teaching and learning activities.
This study developed based on four- sub objectives which are;
• to understand the difficulties faced by students when participating
in distance classes.
• to examine challenges faced by parents to provide online facilities
to their children for better education.
• to explore the barriers school administration (principal and
teachers) encounter to provide distance education .
• Evaluate how divers of distance education affect distance education
in rural schools.

CONCLUSION
• Distance education is a big challenges for rural schools.
• Economic disadvantage, lack of technical knowledge, lack of
equipment, lack of parental interest, geographical challenges,
signal issues are the main ones.
