Segregation between black and whites being around since the beginning of slavery era but
segregation didn't get legal until 1896 when the supreme court sanction legal separation between
black and whites in the ruling H.A. Plessy v. J.H. Ferguson. The ruling stated that separation of
black and whites was legal as long equal facilities did not violate the fourteenth amendment. The
united states did indeed abolish slavery but did they not intend to make blacks first class citizen as
white because after the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendment was passed, the supreme
court had pass three series of judgment making African Americans second class citizens. Blacks
were forces via private action to separate themselves from white in areas of transportation, public
accommodation, prison, school, recreational places and even armed forces. The supreme court did
not make segregation illegal until 1954 during the case of Brown vs. Board of Education. Even with
the ruling of segregation being overturned Jim Crow law was still around enforcing it because not
all states wanted to comply by it. Jim Crow laws were state and local laws enforcing racial

The black and white social divide is mainly based on economics. Many
facts prove that blacks and whites divided mostly because, some whites are
proclaimed rich and some blacks are proclaimed poor. Economics plays a
huge role in this theory as well as self–segregation, stereotyping and cultural divide.
Many just look at the Black And White Social Divide as something insignificant, but
it is a nationwide problem that has been going on for decades. If we want to change
how our society is, we have to work together as an human race and make change.

I've talked to many different people who identify as Latinx, and the consensus is that they're always
fearful when that question appears. "Non–Latinos should not expect Hispanics and Latinos to

Racial Profiling : The Black Or White
Racial profiling has become a big thing in the world today. I honestly believe it has always been a
problem. Racial profiling is someone who is a different color and is blamed for a crime because of
the color of their skin. When someone commits a crime, the police are going to suspect it was
someone of color, rather than someone who is white. There are about 770,000 interracial crimes
committed a year involving Blacks and Whites. Blacks commit 85 percent, and Whites commit 15
percent. As it shows there are more Blacks that commit crimes then whites, but it doesn't mean we
should jump to conclusion on if it was the black or white person. Honestly, looks can be deceiving,
because there are plenty of white people who we thought wouldn't commit a crime but did. By
crimes I mean embezzlement, fraud, and sometimes even murder. You would think it would be more
of a white crime if it was embezzlement and fraud because what black person is smart. You would
think murders would be done by the black person because, white people don't murder unless they
were raised with colored people. Black people aren't more likely to go to prison for embezzlement
or fraud, but they could. White people aren't more likely to go to prison because of murder, but they
could. That is why racial profiling is such a serious thing because you never know who did it unless

Until now reading the different laws associated with the separation of blacks and whites from years
ago, I had no true idea the challenges African Americans face on a day to day basis. Truly, I still
don't since I do not live it, but reading them makes me sad thinking of how people treat other human
beings. I am glad these laws are no longer valid and thankful for the people who took a stand
fighting for the rights of all people, including white and black. All of the Jim Crow laws seek

In our American society, a gap between one's aspirations and reality remains extremely wide.
Currently, the United States has the least equality and opportunity than almost all other advanced

lower than most of Europe. This paper expands on the ways in which the lack of social and

This novel is set in the Alabama in the 1930's where segregation and prejudice had kept its stance on
the other hand in North of America it had been eradicated. The separation of American states from
the civil war was still kept in peoples minds, thus the hatred still existed between the two territories.
This bring us to Maycomb , a small county in Alabama that didn't expand , but grew inwards

Black or White? Caucasian, African American, Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian: together all of these
races make up the different racial groups in America. Racism is the belief that race is the reason for
human traits and that racial differences cause a race to be inferior or superior to other races. Racism
affects how Americans live and work together in America. Recitatif by Toni Morrison published in
1983, fifteen years after the Civil Rights Movement, is an example of fictional writing that
addresses the topic of racism that occurred in America. Morrison's use of main characters with
unrealved races in the context of the era of the civil rights movement allows readers to clearly
understand her critique on racism: the color of a person's skin does not matter.

The Black–White Achievement Gap In the article "The Black–White Achievement Gap: When The
Progress Stopped," NAEP (the National Assessment of Educational Progress), discusses the past 45
years and how children in the black community have still not met the same success as their white
counterparts. Not only has education been lacking in the black community but socio–economic
growth and interpersonal relationships have seen a downward trend with little to no progress.
Moreover, the resources available to higher income white children and low income black children is

(2006) assert "The gap in academic achievement between African American (as well as Latino)
children and their White peers is arguably the most important of all educational problems in the

slave, Sandy, that was tired of being sent away to wok for the Master's grown children. His wife
Tenie, conjure woman, places a spell on Sandy turning him into a tree. Sandy continued to have
problems in this state. Tenie decides to turn him back and run off with him one night.
Unfortunately, Tenie was sent to nurse her master's daughter–in–law and by the time she returned
the tree had been sent to the mill. Sandy was used to build the kitchen, that later became the old
schoolhouse at the corner of the plantation. Tenie died on the floor of that schoolhouse mourning her
husband.
This story so disturbed Annie that she refused to use any old lumber from the schoolhouse. At the

Does racism still exist? This is one of the countless controversies between people today in which
many people might answer "no". Others may agree with Eduardo Bonilla–Silva, a sociology
professor at Duke University. Bonilla–Silva argues that racism still exists, but has become more
subtle since the end of segregation. Bonilla–Silva refers to this "new racism" as color–blind racism.
This term is defined by Bonilla–Silva in his book, White Supremacy and Racism in the Post–Civil
Rights Era, as, "A new, powerful ideology that justifies contemporary racial inequality and thus help
maintain 'systematic white privilege '"(132). Abstract Liberalism, Naturalization, Biologization of
Culture, and Minimization of Racism, are the four central frames Bonilla–Silva uses to describe and
prove racism is still a problem in the form of color–blind racism. These frames and the interviews
used as evidence effectively prove Eduardo Bonilla–Silva's idea that there is racism without
"racists". The first frame used in Bonilla–Silva's essay is Abstract Liberalism, an economic and
political idea used to explain racial matters. Bonilla–Silva defines abstract liberalism as, "This frame

a part of it, she could also disparage it as she wished. Lawrence Blum says, "Whites in general

help her to understand herself and let others understand her as well. Rebecca Walker defines herself
as a "Movement Child," someone who is a child born during and as an outcome of the Civil Rights
movement. Walker states, "I am not a ***, the product of a rape, the child of some white devil. I am
a Movement Child," (24). Though she labels herself with this nickname, it captures more than just
the conditions neighboring her birth because during the beginning of Rebecca Walker 's life, she was

homes, living with each parent for two years at a time in numerous cities and states from

Constitution's ban on "cruel and unusual punishments," many states have given the capital

After having listened to hip hop music for years now, and after having taken this course
I am convinced that the genre of hip hop emerged in response to the life experience that Black
people have had in the United States since the days of slavery. While these people are no longer in
chains, there are still significant differences between Black and White lives generally. There are
statistics that pretty much remain constant throughout the years showing a definite lag in Black
achievement in most areas: economic, educational, in areas of health, and more. So what is the

prejudice and low expectations on the part of whites, and set their own course despite the conditions
surrounding them. This is stoicism in action. It is the ability to suffer slights, prejudices or outright
hatred and pursue one's course undeterred. Marrying the urgency and appeal of hip hop with the

As a young multiracial girl, I remember watching the Cosby Show trying to understand the black
community. I grew up with my white mother and siblings, so I had no real experiences with how

What the white man did to Till was not a logical reason because it was not balanced, he was only
fourteen and been abused brutally by lynching him and tie him with a cotton– gin fan and through
him in the river (Williams 43). What Till had done was too small and not logically balance for what
the white man did to him, what was used on Till was all kind of violence beatings, torturing, and
lynching, This violence that has occurred during Till trip outraged the nation and gave a face to

the viewers an overall circumstance in the room. At two side of the curtain, four members of the
family are arguing on one side; the villain keeps his eyes on them silently, and Sherlock still watches
