This didactic unit has been designed for a class of 15 students of 6th year of Primary
Education. It will consist of 8 individual activities, two for each week. Plus, one
Zoom Class will be taking place in the first week.
The topic of this Unit is ‘’My family’’.The first week will consist of introducing
vocabulary related to ‘’Family’’. As well as to review ‘’have got’’ structures.
The second week, students will review vocabulary related to adjectives in order to
describe their family members. The comparative form of the adjectives will be
introduced. My goal is that they are able to compare family members.
In our third week we will focus on the superlative form of the adjective. Students will
work with the same adjectives from the past week.
And last, in the fourth week students will work on a group activity. Plus, they will
review everything they have learnt in the last 4 weeks with a Kahoot Game.

Procedures
ROUTINE (5’)
I will make sure every student gets online. Some connection problems might appear, I will try
to fix them before the class starts. I will welcome every single student: Hello! How are you?
Can you hear me and see me? While I wait for every student, I will ask them questions in
order to engage with them and to make them feel welcomed: ‘’How is everything? Do you
guys have a lot of homeworks? I bet you can do it!’’
WARM- UP AND PRESENTATION (7-8’)
I will let them know that we are going to begin a new Unit. ‘’Let’s play a game and see if you
guys can guess what the new unit is about’’ - I will share my screen with them and I will
draw myself. ‘’This is me, your teacher - I am not Picasso but I am alright’’ I will draw a
woman next to me and ask them: ‘’Can you guess who this is?’’ It is expected that students
answer in Spanish: ‘’su mamá’’ ‘’su abuela’’ ‘’su amiga’’... ‘’Ok! You are right, this is my
MOTHER’’ I will make emphasis in the pronunciation of ‘’mother’’ and I will write the word
‘’mother’’ next to the draw. ‘’Excellent, let’s see if you can guess this other one’’- I will
draw a man next to my mother with a little heart between them: ‘’Su papa teacher’’ -
‘’Exactly, that is my father! Very good’’
I will make two more draws of some family members hoping for students to guess the topic:
‘’Ok, who can guess what the topic is?’’ The expected answers are: ‘’Nuestra familia’’ ‘’Su
familia’’ ‘’Familia’’ - ‘’Exactly, ‘’the family’’.
DEVELOPMENT (PRACTICE and PRODUCTION) (18-19’)
I will have some flashcards with the family member written down so students can have the
reference on the board. I will say every single one of them so they can get used to the
pronunciation. While I do so, I will ask them directly: ‘’Ana, what is your MOTHER’s
name?’’ or ‘’Mateo, what is your SISTER’s name? This will help to keep them engaged and
to avoid distractions. I will encourage them to answer me full sentences: ‘’ My mother’s name
is…. ‘’ I can take this opportunity to scaffold their pronunciation. It is very important that
students stay focused by knowing the teacher can ask them questions anytime.
‘’Now, not every family is the same! Families are very different - check this family’’ I will
show students a photo of a family consisting of a grandfather, a grandmother, a mother, and a
child named ‘’Lucas’’ ‘’Look at this family, Lucas has a mother, a grandfather and a
6. grandmother’’ I will point at the family member at the same time that I pronounce the word
so students can associate the meaning. ‘’Look at this other one’’ I will show them another
photo of a girl named: Paula. ‘’Paula has a father, a grandmother and a sister, but she hasn’t
got a brother’’ What about this one? Can anyone tell me about Julia’s family? I will show
them a photo with: Julia, a baby brother and a mother. It is expected that some students still
answer in Spanish, I will scaffold by repeating the word in English after they say it. My goal
here is to make students aware that every family is different, and that is perfectly fine.
‘’Now, please, take your notebooks out’’ I will ask students to write down their family
members. I will write this on the whiteboard beforehand: ‘’ My family consists of…. ‘’ So
they can make the a list. *It is important to bear in mind that students will have the new
vocabulary in front of them in the virtual board throughout the entire class*. Once they finish,
I will listen to each one of them, and ask them questions: ‘’Agostina, have you got a
brother?’’ It is expected that she answers yes or no, so I’ll take advantage of this opportunity
to review the ‘’Have got’’ orally. ‘’Yes, I have’’
CLOSURE (3’)
Very good guys! Now, it’s time for you to ask me questions about my family! My goal here is
to review ‘have got’ in the question form and to check if they have acquired the right
pronunciation of the words. I will write the ‘’have got’’ question structure in the board as
well.
‘’Listen everybody: Check out Google Classroom for this week’s activities - It was lovely to
see you all! Feel free to contact me if you have any doubts’’ I will say goodbye.
