2. Paglights
Pag lights are extremely versatile cameras
which can be used to increase the light
intensity and create great shadows. They are
particularly useful for night shots when you’re
out and about as they are small and
portable. Due to the different filters it comes
with you have a large amount of control
over the intensity it creates and works really
well for interrogation scenes. However, in
terms of safety the bulbs do get extremely
hot so you need to be careful not to touch
them and they take a long time to charge so
we would need to plan the scene we want
to use them in in advance.
3. The Studio
The studio is particularly important place to have
access to. In terms of this unit we will most likely
use it for when we are taking photographs for our
poster and magazine cover. It’s really useful as it
will get us nice clear images that look extremely
professional. However, there are limitations as it is
a small setting so the images will be quick tightly
framed and we would need to book it in
advance as in school we only have access to
one.
Within the studio the background is a huge
feature. We have the option of a black, white or
green backdrop. This means that we can create
different effects e.g. black would give us a slightly
more dark and mysterious shot whilst green would
give us the ability to take an image and change
the background to anywhere we wish. Again the
limitations are the size and also the fact that we
would have to use this within school.
4. Steady Cam
The Xpro Staberliser is an alternative to
handheld filming. It’s main use is for when
you want to create really smooth shots
that don’t have the movement that exists
within filming handheld. One of the best
things about it is that it can create
disorientation for the viewer which is
particularly useful in shots that involve
filming a character that is on drugs and
not completely aware of the situation.
There are limitations of this type of camera
as we only have two in the school we
would have to book it far in advance and
also it’s quite fiddly and awkward so we
would need to practice using it before we
actually film that scene.
5. Tripod and Monopod
Tripods are key within filming as they create a clear
steady shot and is a regular feature within filming. You
have the ability to adjust the height of the tripod to gain
some flexibility within the shots and can have your
camera titled at unusual angles due to the rotation
feature where you screw the camera on. It can be really
useful filming in the evening when you want a smooth
take. The main disadvantages of using a tripod are that
it is stable throughout all the shots you take with it so you
can’t move it whilst filming. In addition you need a
stable surface therefore it’s not great in parks and
muddy areas which aren’t flat terrain.
Monopod is a support system within filming again much
like a tripod it helps to create stability and a smooth shot
without so much of tremor within the images. It’s also
useful as you can connect a microphone to the device
to improve sound quality of your characters or
surroundings. It also has a mini tripod that can be used
when out and about however like the tripod it’s difficult
to use this feature in bad terrain.
6. FinalCut
FinalCut Pro X (10) is one of the top video
editing programmes that you can buy. It
runs on mac computers the purpose is
that it allows you post process editing of
your video’s it has a huge amount of
features and is vital to the final creation of
our trailer it gives us the ability to create
something really professional and
technically accurate within a school
environment. The main disadvantage is
that we will be limited in when we can use
the software as it only exists on the macs
in the media department therefore we
can only edit when lessons are taking
place that don’t need access to the
macs and when we are at school.
