Nine Frame Analysis
By Nabah Maryam Jafri
Shot 1- In the first shot, we see an explosion erupt with words appearing out of it, “Directed By Phil Lord & Christopher Miller”. This gives
the first impression that there will be a lot of action due to the fact that there is exploding flames and fire directly in front of the camera.
This is the beginning of the shoot so it sets the tone of the film. The fire/explosions are all genre conventions. The darkness around the flames
suggests that it is nighttime. The camera has been shot in a way that it is directly in front of the explosion in midair this makes you feel like
you are in the scene as it is almost 3-D.
Shot 2- In this shot, we (the audience) see that drugs are being used and what looks like money in the background is set down. This
immediately gives the impression that a lot of crime will be involved in the film which links back to the first shot. The audience sees an
extreme close-up of this shot indicating that it is of some importance though it may not even be much. In front of this, the title comes up as,
“Screenplay By Michael Bacall”.
Shot 3- In this shot, we see a picture of a cardboard heat with gunshots fired through so this indicates police work.
